Had brunch at Childers and I was not disappointed! The menu offers a variety of both classic American breakfast as well as other more adventurous cuisines and entrées such as the shakshuka which was delicious! We had omelettes as well as the shakshuka. The service was very fast and I went above and beyond expectations to make sure you had a great experience. Childers Eatery is a neat place to eat. We went for brunch and I appreciated the atmosphere. Upscale and very pretty with loads of flowers out front and nice decor. They didn't offer straws. Yay! I had the lemon blueberry French toast and it was delicious!! I ate every bite. It was topped with fresh berries and whipped cream and special syrup on the side. Will definitely order again. You probably won't believe me because no restaurant would do this ever, right? I ordered the special Italian burger and my husband ordered off the menu, The Shoe (which was delicious by the way). My burger came,but it also had salami on it which I didn't realize and it did not taste good. So I asked the waitress if I could order something else. She was sweet and said of course, then she walked my burger back to the kitchen and screamed at the top of her sizable lungs, "She don't like it!!!!" Everyone in the entire restaurant got super quiet turned to stare. I was mortified. My humiliation was made complete though when the cook just as loudly uttered an unhappy inaudible sound, signaling his displeasure with her pronouncement. The waitress came back to me and asked what I wanted to order instead. I said, "Nothing, cause that guy's gonna mess with my food." She said, "No he won't." I explained how I and everyone else heard her yell at him, as well as his response. She got a look on her face and said "be right back." I'm constantly on the search for a decent breakfast place, and I'm happy to say that my search ends here! Childer's Eatery is absolutely delightful! At my most recent visit, I went with 7 people, which is kind of a lot of people to collectively experience a great time. Luckily we called ahead and the wait time ended up being less than 10 minutes. Our waitress was superb and very accommodating and made our group's time there enjoyable. Paired with the excellent service, the food was outstanding! I had the Southwestern Omelette with Cottage Fries (kind of like hash browns but are fried potato slices sautéed with green peppers and onions--more flavorful) and a Fruit Cup. The omelette had all kinds of goodies, such as bell peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes all blanketed inside and was topped off with a few slices of (extremely green, blemish-free) avocado. I was beaming with happiness! A friend of mine who sat a seat down from me had the Chicken & Waffles and it looked so awesome! It was literally a Chicken & Waffle sandwich. Every time I got to Chidlers', there is about a 15 or 20 minute wait. You can ask the hostess if you can see a menu and pick out what you would like to order. The wait staff is quick to take your order because they are busy. The waiters/waitresses are not very personal because they are so busy. My friend and I ordered the Diablo Eggs Benedict and the Lemon Blueberry French Toast. The eggs Benedict had chorizo (spicy sausage), avocados, some spicy sauce, and some hash browns. The combination of ingredients had just enough "kick" but it was not too spicy. The french toast was refreshing because it did not need any syrup. The lemon sauce had the consistency of a pudding and it was a tangy sweet. There were strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries on top with a light dusting of powdered sugar. Overall, Childers Eatery is a nice place to go for Brunch/Lunch. Be prepared to wait for awhile for good food. read more

If I were simply reviewing based on what else is available for brunch options, I would give Childers 5 stars, but since I've eaten all over the country at some incredible places, I'm going with 4 stars. My Buddy and I decided to give it a try. Opened the door and we felt we just walked into a 1968 Bishop's Buffet, The décor needs major updating including hanging pictures. Our waitress was prompt and got us water as we looked over the Menu's, My buddy noticed all older people in the four tables that were filled. We both chose the pork tenderloin sandwich. It arrived exactly 26 min later and ordered with fries. The fries were over salted by 5x than normal with some type of homemade concoction that could be used to melt driveway snow in he winter. The pork loin my buddy had, He had to stop eating as he stated it tasted funny parts of it tasted like white fish. My pork loin was ok until about halfway through it I found it under cooked. I believe that is what my buddy thought was white fish. Prices were above average. I'm sure this is a awesome hangout for seniors and Bradley alumni but as far as return visit sorry I want to keep my youth and health. read more

We were seated right away though, I had smoked salmon eggs benedict, my wife had their egg benedict de mere ( crab, avocado and citrus spiked hollandaise) my son had french taost and my daughter a waffle. My smoked salmon benedict was good..with lots of roasted tomatoes, a decent amount of salmon, the eggs were perfectly poached. I had the cottage fries with it. They werent greasy and tasted good. My wifes crab benedict was good..the citrus hollandaise was a little strong. The crab and avocado seemed to diminish with the brightly flavored hollandaise. Service was good and friendly...I asked for regular hollandaise instead of dijon hollandaise for my benedict and received it, and asked about a few side items..she answered my questions confidently and was enthusiastic to help. If I had one complaint it would be the lack of real estate on the table...there were so many condiments and creamers etc...by the time you add a carafe of water, 4 water glasses, silverware etc theres very little room. We stopped at Childers based on yelp reviews. It was FANTASTIC! I ordered a build-your-own omelette with sweet bell peppers, roma tomatoes, and American cheese; the omelettes are made with 3 eggs. I also chose hash browns and wheat toast. My husband got a full order of biscuits & gravy (2 biscuits, opened up to 4 halves), hash browns, and sausage. He ordered orange juice and was offered regular or hand-squeezed. He chose the hand-squeezed and it was SO delicious!!! I also enjoyed that our server offered a choice of two different types of hot sauces. Our service was great, and our food came out quickly!!! Based on info I read in Childers' yelp profile, the founder is Edward and now his son, Ryan, has taken over the restaurant. I am 99.9% sure that both Edward and Ryan were in the restaurant when we were. Edward checked on all the tables towards the beginning of our visit, and then once again as we were finishing up our meals. The decòr inside was fresh and happy, and there were also fresh flowers on each table. If you're passing through Peoria and looking for good breakfast food, definitely stop here! The good: I ordered the Southwestern Omelet, which is made with chorizo, peppers, cheddar, AVOCADO, and salsa. Yes, avocado is in all caps...it makes the meal. And I had their cottage fries, which are served with peppers and onions, and also whole wheat toast, with a side of Gouda Cheese Sauce (for dipping). The bad: Over the years, I have (unfortunately) become somewhat of a coffee snob, due primarily to places like 30-30, Leaves & Beans, and Coffee Hound, which roast their own beans. The coffee is not mediocre. It's bad. If they started to serve 30-30 beans, they would be bumped to that 5th star. The ugly: It's an unassuming diner atmosphere, which is okay, but with the quality of food, it doesn't really match. Summary: There is so much flavor in this food. Our waitress wasn't prompt with our drink order and the lunches were somewhat near lukewarm when finally delivered. As someone with an egg allergy, this place has a fairly large egg-based menu. This was first time I've been here. Looked promising due to having a wait time for breakfast. First off the waitstaff is excellent. Scrambles eggs were super wet but were fully cooked. More like water wet. Sausage links were fine just sausage links. My wife and I had the same meal and both had French toast with our eggs and sausage. Both plates had French toast that was nicely browned. Flavor was lacking a lot which would have been ok had they actually been fully cooked. Everything but the crust was gooey snot consistency crap. I can only assume whomever cooked the French toast was in a hurry and cooked at higher heat than normal as I can't believe that this is how they always make the stuff. Regardless I'm not going back after my pregnant wife and myself being served raw egg. Would have given 1 star but like I said service was great read more

My daughter and I only had 45-50 mins to sit down, look over the menu, order, and eat before a softball game. We arrived at 7am on a Saturday morning. We were seated immediately. Our waitress, Amy, was super friendly and helpful. I told her that we were in a little bit of a hurry so she took our order right away. In Peoria with friends for a couple of days. Used the Yelp app to find our restaurants. This one was Right in Target! Great breakfast. The food was excellent and the service ( our waitress Diane was Amazing!) was perfection. Breakfast croissant, bikers pancake breakfast, eggs Benedict and loaded oatmeal were all delicious! Well worth the drive from Bloomington to Peoria. My husband and I crave this place. Love this place! Found it on yelp when we were looking for breakfast. Our server was Sara (she was excellent and very sweet) but all the staff were very nice and helpful. I had the biker breakfast (eggs, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes) and my boyfriend had the breakfast burrito - all the items were delicious and they came out quickly and piping hot on a busy Sunday late morning. For a breakfast place I was disappointed. My coffee cup was left empty, despite sitting near the kitchen. I think the shift was ending and the place was not busy, and there were a lot of staff not doing much other than talking. The pancakes were doughy, if you like it that way ok, but I can do just as well with a mix from a box at home. I would have given only two stars but the side of banana bread was unusually good . They are always busy. It is indicative of their service and food quality. It can also lead to varying experiences over time. I have been in and out in extremely short order, and not in a fashion I felt rushed. I have sat and waited for a server as if my table wasn't assigned, for quite some time. I have never had bad food at any of their locations. I have eaten at the catering location, the University location across from Walmart, and the north Knoxville location. The menu is varied and good. The north location's construction makes it very noisey inside. I have some anxiety issues around noise. This is my issue, not theirs. I mention it only to say that I find the University location much more comfortable, and worth waiting at the door for a table. If we have friends from out of town overnight, we try to breakfast here, we find it that good and unique. read more
