Stopped in for the lunch buffet. Glad I did! They offered ground beef, a few chicken options, nice chunks of tender and flavorful carnitas, a few soups which the beef and potato was very good. More of an offering overall than I expected. I will be back as a regular for the buffet. Very reasonable pricing. There was a mix of clientele including Hispanics. read more

Has been our favorite place for a decade. Something Has changed. Last 4 carry out orders were missing items. The owner of the business, who has repeatedly messed up our orders, was very rude today when we dined in. Love the staff, but food is going down hill and the owners don't care at all. We have had several fajita orders that were not edible. We will not go back. I feel bad that I have recommended this place to hundreds of people. It's not what it was. read more

This is my Indy sister's family favorite Mexican restaurant. I can see why! We ordered the Fajitas for 3, Could easily feed 6 people! Huge plate of 5 or maybe 6 different proteins, comes with all the usual sides PLUS 3 plates of beans & rice. GREAT SERVICE TOO! Can't say enough about our excellent servers. I think I've finally found my new Mexican spot! After living in LA for close to a decade & being back here going on 4 years--- I was on the hunt for those legit little soft tacos carne asada w onions and green cilantro. I've eaten at this place once as dine in and once as delivery. Both times, the food was 100. I didn't feel sick afterwards either! Ha! (That's the real test lol sick). The food is great Mexican-American style, so not 100% authentic Hispanic dishes, but dishes that are familiar in Indy for sure. They also have a lunch buffet. It includes a salad bar, soups, quesadillas, enchiladas, queso dip, dessert, rice, beans, and different proteins like chicken and beef to create your own burritos/tacos. I used to eat regularly at Chile Verde when I worked at the office park right around the corner from its 75th and Shadeland strip center. However, now that I'm working downtown I seem to find myself going other directions more often but Chile Verde is one of those places where you simply get in the mood for it once in a while. The restaurant is located in a strip center that contains multiple restaurants, a health clinic, a fitness center, and a few other businesses. It's a rather hit-and-miss area since it's only a few blocks from the Community Health campus and also easily within the vicinity of multiple apartment complexes. For quite some time, the strip center has had a security vehicle that goes through it regularly - unlike some security agencies, this one actually will stop you if you're parked for no apparent reason for too long. The area has had a few issues including a robbery/killing at the Subway in this same strip center just a few months ago in 2020. However, for the most part I've always felt safe here and when I worked in the area we never had any issues. There are accessible parking spots here. There's a curb cut fairly close to Chile Verde's main entrance and the restaurants doorways are reasonable. They are distancing and tables work fine for a wheelchair. Arroz Con Pollo is my "go to" pick at most Mexican restaurants. The same is true here, though I have tried some of their other chicken-based options including Pollo Sabroso. Arroz Con Pollo is chicken sauteed in pure butter with onions. It's served on a bed of rice with melted cheese and a vegetable garnish. I know some Mexican restaurants don't include the onions - so, that's a bit unique here. I've never had a bad meal here and the service is always super friendly and helpful. Chile Verde does have a kids menu. They also have lunch specials and, like many other places, their evening mails tend to be larger and slightly more expensive versions of their lunch menu. You can get a free dessert on your birthday. I know they've historically had a mariachi band on Friday evenings, though I'm not sure if COVID has impacted that and I haven't been on a Friday in a while. I know they've historically also had an $8.99 lunch buffet daily from 11am - 3pm. I know lots of places have temporarily halted their lunch buffets - I know their website still shows it, but if you're going specifically for that you might call and check it out first just to make sure. I do know some late 2020 reviews still mention the buffet. You can order online. Carry-out is available. They have kick-butt margaritas (Seriously). This is a family owned business and it's always super clean and well taken care of - they've upped their game with the health pandemic. It's really quite the gem in this neighborhood. Their website indicates that teachers receive 20% off daily (with a valid ID). Good food, great people, and fair prices all make Chile Verde a terrific option for those seeking a Mexican restaurant in the 75th & Shadeland/Northeast area of Indy. I'm not quite sure I'd call it a destination spot, but I live around Glendale and will easily make the drive to support local and have a great meal. read more

With a name of a menu item, you can hopefully expect to have this item be exceptional! I went there today, several miles out of my way, just to try the Chile Verde. Service was good and didnt have to ask twice for anything. Staff was friendly, but there was something I couldnt put my finger on that kept it from feeling like a "happy place"? I was there after most peoples normal lunch hour on a Friday. Only a few other people in the place. From the outside it looked dark and I almost questioned if it was open? Chips came out warm and crisp and salsa was awesome. Looks like it was complementary. The draft beer sizes went from 12 or 16 oz? But then jumped up to HUGE and they had even larger! It came out cold. Very happy! While they didnt have Coors lite on tap, Miller worked. Rice was good. Not the best I ever had, but certainly good. Beans were good with melted jack cheese on top The Chile Verde was good. The tang from the tomatillos was dominant. I am not that experienced with chile verde to consider myself an expert. I have only experienced a few different ones. When I compare what I have experienced, this one lacked the hot spicy Jalapeno kick and flavoring. However, I can understand appealing to a wider customer base. I asked for some green hot sauce and a bottle of green habanero was promptly delivered. That fixed it right up on heat level! Still, some flavor of other chiles seemed to be missing? Was it good? Heck yeah! Would I order again? If I was in the area I would! The pkg of 3 flour tortillas I requested was warm in foil. Tortillas were small but warm. They could have used a tad more warming on a comal or cast iron flat griddle. It's a decent Mexican choice if you eat meat, probably not the best vegetarian choices... I ended up with a margarita and an a la Carte bean burrito, which was actually really bad... BUT... here's the best part: I wouldn't come back here and eat anything though I would return for a drink and the MARIACHI BAND!!!! The food is fine. It is your standard Indiana Mexican fare, which consists of: 1. sauce and/or queso on burritos; 2. lettuce and sour cream on everything; 3. chimichangas as a menu option. But, I do like Chile Verde because the management is pretty awesome and does fundraisers for non-profits. The people behind Chile Verde seem kind -- that is a plus. Also, according to a photo that hangs on the wall of the restaurant, a mariachi band plays there frequently, so that's a feather in their proverbial cap. I got the taquitos, which were OK. Chile Verde is owned by a local family who is very philanthropic to our district's schools. The staff is always very polite and eager to make our visit as pleasant as possible. And on top of that, they have a Mariachi band that performs for tips on Friday and Saturday nights! Their food is decent, but I wouldn't call it very inventive. It's standard Mexican food in Indiana. Not that it's bad. Don't get me wrong. Just standard. There are a couple of vegetarian plates, which are tasty, but I always wish there were more choices available. We typically go to Chile Verde for "Fundraising Nights" supporting various clubs or groups at one of the schools. While the food might not be adventurous, we always enjoy the visit and leave full and happy. read more

I really wanted to love this place because it's close to where I live. It's certainly not bad, but my husband and I both found the food to be a little bland. It definitely could have used more spices. The positives were the portions are quite big, and when we did carryout they even gave us chips and salsa which was very nice of them since that's my favorite thing to munch on when dining in. There's a different between a Mexican restaurant and a restaurante Mexicano. Chile Verde is a reasonably priced Mexican restaurant. We had the buffet. The standouts were the pork in salsa verde and the plantain chimichangas. The pork was so-so, but the sauce was very tasty. The plaintains were very nice, particularly accompanied by some nice honey. Those aside, none of the food offerings were of particular note. The meat selection was very slim - nary a barbicoa or an al pastor, but some credible pollo (modestly) picante. Service was great, and the place itself was fine, and all in all, if you're a fan of American Mexican food, it's not a bad place to go, at a decent price for a buffet. read more

My other half and I went here on Cinco De Mayo towards the later part of the dinner hour. We had no problem getting a seat. The decor was very colorful. For my drink, I ordered a small (16 oz) Strawberry Margarita with sugar, which was really good. For the entree, I had the Chicken Quesadilla which came with sour cream, lettuce and rice. I stare at Chile Verde every time I leave the gym and have wanted to try the lunch buffet for some time now. I figure if a place can do beans and rice and the basics well, it's worth a scouting visit for a try. What better way to get a feel for a place than to hit the buffet, right? I finally had a random afternoon off and so I grabbed the hubs and we stopped in for a late lunch -- around 1:45 -- and we were afraid the buffet would be picked over or under stocked. We did a walk-by and were reassured by the staff that they were getting ready to put more new food out, so we stayed. They were true to their word and refilled several of the options which was great as several 'late' tables came in after us as well. At $7.99 for all you can eat, this isn't a bad deal, really. There was a pretty good variety of options and they offer hard taco shells, an edible fried taco shell bowl for salads, and flour tortillas as base options to fill on the buffet. There was even a soup offered -- a chicken broth base with chicken and veggies -- that was pretty good actually. I liked the chicken options offered on the hot bar (shredded with sauce, fajita style, and something creamy with mushrooms) and was happy to sample some other random non-chicken meaty things, too. Surprisingly, the roasted meat was pretty tender, the tamale was decent, and nothing tasted like it had been sitting around, so that was a bonus. There were even Churros under a heat lamp for dessert. The "salad bar" was a little lack luster, but it's a Mexican place, so I didn't think that was a deal breaker. The salsa and chips were actually my least favorite part of the meal which is odd as I am usually a salsa-aholic. Their salsa was a strange kind of orange color and pretty spicy on the back end. I opted to skip the salsa and use a few chips for queso blanco (on buffet) instead. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the atmosphere in this place. It was super dark inside. Like randomly dark for the middle of the day dark. Like the buffet area was even dark and it was sometimes hard to tell what was in the food bins. There were random holes in the tile floor filled with rags stuffed in them or they were taped over -- not sure what that was about. However, it didn't feel dirty per se -- it was just oddly dark, pretty vacant, and a little outdated. If half-stars were an option, I would say this was a solid 3 1/2 star experience. However, since our server was nice and we both got super full and happy for under $20, I will round up for now. We will go back during dinner hours for another shot as I hear they make a good margarita. read more

My husband has used Chili Verde to cater some work lunches so we thought it would be worth a shot to try them for his and his brother's birthday party. They provided a quote for us and called to confirm our pick up time. We were a bit early to pick up and I believe it was the owner who offered us a margarita at the bar. We sat down and the bartender offered us chips and salsa which we declined, but how nice is that?! We ended up adding shredded cheese and sour cream and he didn't charge us anymore. The food was a huge success and everyone loved it. I highly recommend Chili Verde for your catering needs as they were so easy to work with and very eager to please. A Mexican lunch buffet? Be still my beating heart. I'm not a huge fan of buffets, actually. All too often the food is picked over, and lukewarm. But I believe Chile Verde has the lunch buffet down to a fine art. It seems they are constantly refilling the food, and it's quite tasty! There's nothing especially adventurous on the buffet--tacos, enchiladas, pretty basic fare, but it's all hot, tasty and filling. For the current price of 7.99 I think it's one of the best bargains in town. In addition, the staff is friendly and cordial, and the owners very often do fundraisers for local non profits. Another day of us being out and about and searching for a good place to have lunch. We had a place in mind, but they were still carry out, no dine in. Tony and I are ok with eating in the van, but not so with my brother. Luckily I knew of a Chile Verde which was very close by. I had been there before, but it was quite some time ago. There was one on Pendleton Pike of the same name with a great lunch buffet, but it has a new name now. (will have to check that out). There is a menu which I didn't get a chance to photograph. A buffet lunch is offered here and my brother and I rapidly chose that while Tony ordered the Hamburger and French fries. (he is so daring when it comes to food...NOT) lol. I enjoyed the buffet. The dishes were not too spicy, but you could make them spicy with jalapeños or salsa if you liked to. Everything was very tasty. This place is so clean it's unbelievable! As customers left someone would come and spray and wipe and spray and wipe. A lot of time and energy was used to make sure that the areas were CLEAN! We looked at the hanging light shades. What do you think we saw on top of them? Nothing! Not even dust!! The floors, bathroom, everything was sparkling clean. Good food, good service, and a very clean place. I've been to Chile Verde years ago, and just realized it on this most recent visit I made. This place is a solid restaurant with decent food and great lunch specials. They even have a lunch buffet! I believe it is $7-$8 and there's two stations - one with meat (shredded chicken, ground beef, and steak) and rice and beans; then there is one station with all of the toppings. I also saw hard and soft shells, quesadillas, queso, and a few other items. I'm pretty sure I'll be visiting here again. read more
