We waited maybe 2 minutes to be seated since the restaurant had opened only a short time earlier. Our greeter was friendly and took our drink order right away. Our server was attentive and on the ball. Our food was pretty good, for sure. My husband got the steak & chicken fajitas and was happy. I got a simple grilled chicken salad off the lighter fare part of the menu and was pleased to eat it all. It was lightly seasoned but that was fine with me, no overpowering lemon or vinegar. The only reason why I'm giving this Chili's stars at all Is because the food was pretty good, as it usually is. Sadly tho my most recent trip will be my last at the East Hanover location. I decided to take my dad for Father's Day since Chili's has something for everyone. The service is what KILLED this establishment for me. Walked in to the waiters on their phone until finally someone decided to look up and give us a seat. After being seated and handed a menu I was disgusted at how STICKY the menu was and as if it couldn't get any worse and nice CHEWED up straw came right out of my dads menu and on to our table. U can imagine how upset I was for this dinner to have started on a gross note. And of coarse it got WORSE, I looked around and every table around us was left uncleared from the previous dinner with just dishes, half eaten food and used napkins covering the table in every direction u looked. Not to mention a few flies going about to each table (added such a classy touch) we were given no napkins, no silverware no water, no straws we kept having to ask our waiter for just the basics. Just AWFUL. Not sure I'd ever go there again after tonight. The service was friendly and staff very efficient but the food was TERRIBLE. Not sure what happened to this once-solid restaurant. Granted, it's not haute cuisine but I've had better meals out of the microwave, sourced from the frozen food section of the local megamart. I ordered the Queso dip as an appetizer. If I was expecting a nice bright yellow and cheesy dip I was disappointed; what came out was more brown, made even darker by the brown "skin" covering the dish. You know, the kind you get if you use dairy in your coffee, then you reheat it in the microwave too many times. I tried stirring it back into the sauce but it stuck to my fork. When finally "homogenized" the taste was decidedly NOT cheesy; sort of like a bean broth gravy (I expect the lumps in it were - I HOPE - beans). Tostitos serves better out of their supermarket jars. Chips were very salty but had a nice crisp crunch. Then came my fajitas - or at least what passes for fajitas here now. No hot bubbling sizzling platter here; instead I got a larger platter in the prerequisite wood carrier, but this held a barely-warm pile of bland rice, a small cup of watery black beans, and a foil roll of tortillas (no fancy warmers here) alongside some dry sliced chicken atop slightly warm fried peppers & onions - and I mean DRY. Rather than worry about what ingredients a place named after a pepper might use in the sauce, Chilis has decided to just skip the sauce altogether. THERE WAS NO FAJITA SAUCE ON THE FAJITAS. Not on the side, not anywhere. Dry. REALLY DRY. I ate one I rolled with the tiny bit of guac they serve in a little mayo cup and some of the cold, dry shredded cheese alongside it on the accompanying "boat". Then I decided to take the whole mess home; it wasn't worth eating (there) and I remembered I had all the ingredients for a great fajita sauce recipe at home, along with a few ripe avocados. Not to mention a block of nice sharp Vermont cheddar. Certainly anything I did with this mess at home had to be better than it was prepared at this joint. Very solid restaurant. Been here many times over the years and must say it hasn't declined at all. As far as big chain restaurants go, there is often a lot of turnover and the restaurant typically sufferes. That's not the case here. The food has always been strong and the service has never lacked. This Chili's location has it DOWN. Upon entering the place, my wife and I were seated rather quickly. As we were walking in, we noticed every seating area had the "Ziosk" personal machines - this turned out to be fantastic. We ordered a meal a la Mexican - enchilada, black beans, salsa, and a soft taco for myself. They did a great job with the food; everything was cooked right, flavored nicely. The waitress was attentive and brought us our beverages quickly. My real delight with this location was the Ziosk - you can't order your full meals yet, but you can do apps and certain drinks. What I liked the most was that you could pay the check through the machine - so we had paid for our meal without waiting minutes for the waitress to come see us, go get the check, bring it back, and wait for change/signature. The Ziosk machine eliminated the middle man and so much time - it was great. I have to give Chili's a good rating - they did a solid job, the food was pretty damn good, and the service was also solid. read more

I just went to this location with my family and I must say, none of us were very pleased with our experience. The silverware that was not covered in watermarks (which is just a pet peeve of mine even though its fine) was coated in specks of food from previous customers. The plates were the same way. Not a very good first impression. When my dad handed the silverware with food caked on to our waitress she tried to say it was just water marks. She took it of course, but it's just not a comment I would make. The Texas Fries were great, but that was really the only highlight. My dad enjoyed his dinner. My brother's buffalo ranch sandwich was a bit "bland" in his opinion. My mom ordered a fajita- well, it's a lot of plates for a little table. Her beans, as well as all the food on the sizzling plate was surprisingly cold. My spicy shrimp tacos were not as spicy as I had hoped, and whatever sauce it came with was filled 1/4 of the way in its cup-enough for one taco. I also believe that the tortillas they were served in were stale. At first I couldn't tell if it was just strangely cooked, but it was not all over the tortilla, it was just tough (not browned at all) around the outer inch. We sat at the bar. Drinks are good and snack food was ok... but the staff is not managed and probably not trained. Bartender, waiters and waitresses are super unprofessional although not hostile. They where having a lot of fun screaming at each other jokes or orders in a constant circus like kids at school. The place is already loud but it became ridiculous. Not sure there is a manager on site. A waitress coming out of nowhere left a tab saying "here you go" and grabbed it back not looking at us. No thank you, no good bye. What a hygiene disaster! The first set of silverware had junk all over the knife, the pepper shaker was disgustingly sticky. We had already ordered lunch so we stayed and hoped for the best. The food was basically good, but the whole time I was looking for odd things. The unsweetened iced tea was brought with no spoon to stir sweetener. When we looked for the server, there was NOBODY from the staff available. I went to the ladies room and the booth doors looked as though they had not been wiped down in a month. I started going here with my family on a weekly basis for some odd reason, but the food was really good. I never remember it being this good so perhaps there was a reorganization in the company. I usually get the smoked salmon. It is really tasty and good and you have a few healthy side options (although most is fried). A group of 20 work colleagues on a Friday went out to lunch & Chili's was able to accommodate us with relatively short notice. I had called the evening before. I was happy but kind of suspicious because most of our favorite local places are too packed on a Friday to seat a group of 20 even if you have a reservation. Since we were a large group I orders a bunch of chips, salsa, and dips for the table since I knew it was going to take a while for the food to arrive. Our waitress was good but she really needed a hand. It took an hour for my bacon burger and fries to arrive. It was good and cooked nicely, I did enjoy our apps and my mango ice tea while waiting In fact the 4 other people around me who tried my mango tea also got one for themselves, it was that good! The queso spinach dip was a big hit. The various dishes my friends ordered were okay but not stand outs. So for a big group this place was fine especially if you have a lot of vegetarians. Chili's has a black bean patty which they will substitute for any of their proteins in their entrees. The manager lent a hand serving and was very friendly. This review is only for this particular restaurant and not the entire chain. I usually give Chili's 2 or 3 stars but this place is sub-par. I've been here more than a few times now. It used to be somewhere we would hit up if no one felt like cooking but after the last time, we decided it was finally time to take this chain off our list...permanently. First, the service is spotty at best. There's never a hostess at the stand waiting to take your name and if there is, they act like it's not their job and they don't know what to do. The waiters are all hit or miss. Some are moderately attentive while others are just out to lunch and never check on you after your food comes out. Then the food. Urgh. I know it's a chain and I know not to expect to be blown away but at least they could TRY to imitate a STANDARD of food that other Chili's are putting out. We always get the chips and salsa, in every Chili's, no matter what. We've gotten them here 3 times now and the chips are always over salted. You can't chug water, though. What if your waiter doesn't come back to fill up your glass? The last few times we were here one of us has gotten some kind of grilled chicken. Whether it be in fajitas or a breast, it lists on the menu that it's supposed to be GRILLED. You know, like over high heat with a nice sear/char on the outside and a slightly smokey taste? No. Even on the chicken fajitas the chicken comes out like it's been boiled and slapped on the plate. This is the only Chili's I've ever been to that does this and it's super off-putting. Found nothing bad in this experience. I give credit to the male bartender working tonight. Granted there's only 8 parties that I see from my viewpoint with an additional few that I probably can't see. But that means that usually workers slow down. But not here. He's quick. And he turns into a host and a waiter for tables not even in the bar area. Awesome job. Besides the great service he is providing by keeping a good demeanor and moving nonstop, the margarita is well done and thumbs up to the chef who made my steak exactly medium rare. I picked up takeout from the East Hanover Chili's and it was inedible. It was supposed to come with sides and not even they were in the containers. I paid for 3 dinners and had nothing to show for it. I called and was put on hold for 27 minutes and finally the manager got on the phone. I explained my story and he was polite and put me on hold again for 15 minutes but he did get back on. He said he would send vouchers and took my address that was 3 weeks ago. Where was the hostess??? We walked in for dinner on a Thursday night a few months back and there was no hostess present at the booth to greet us and seat us. Several other people strolled in while we waited for a good 20 minutes and still no hostess. There was no eye contact even from their wait staff. Is this how this establishment treats their customers on a Thursday night? Such negligence on a Thursday night! Unbelievable! So we walked out and went to TGI Friday's instead! We decided to come here today, after receiving the 5th email from Chilis with a coupon. Our waitress might have been the laziest human being ever....I kept looking around expecting Ashton Kutcher to jump out and tell me I had been punk'd. Food was gross...everything seemed like it could be and probably was microwaved. When we got the check, coupon was not deducted...so we waited some more for Ms Lazy to bring the corrected amount. I'm putting 1-star because you can't leave it blank. I just had the worst experience of my life in any restaurant. I visited the place today with my colleagues. After ordering the appetizers, we waited for 35-40 minutes and reminded our server, he came back from kitchen to tell us, the place was out of nachos. WOW 1! he was absolutely unapologetic so probably it happens often! When he got the entrees, one of the colleague had ordered burger without chicken patty as he is a vegetarian. This guy didn't bother to check and after showing him that he was gonna 'FIX' it. WOW 2! again no apologies. When he got our check, we had almost spend 2 hrs. in the place, he added few beverages which we hadn't ordered. WOW 3! The staff is rude and have no value for time. My family and I used to like this Chili's but this location is sadly going down hill. Last month we visited and it took an hour to get our food and another half hour just to get dessert. On our most recent visit every drink we ordered was wrong/salted and sugar rims were mixed up and the tables were gross.... Use to go here a lot with friends Thursday nights after bowling league across the street for a meal and drinks. The food is good, never had any problems. The restrooms were clean. The only real negative with this location is the service. We use to have a regular server who was always quick to refill our drinks and get our orders out in a reasonable amount of time, but her shift changed to another night. After that the servers we've had have been rather slow and we have since moved to another restaurant. Some of us have a hike getting home so having slow service is unacceptable, hopefully the service has improved and the servers are more like our former regular server. I go there at least once a month, whenever I encountered a problem, whether is be my game pad wasn't working right, or an issue with the food they have always been very accommodating.
