A great neighborhood spot for some Tex-Mex breakfast where you will get your money worth and it is nice and quiet and great patio seating. My biggest complain is the parking lot is not paved and line with assign spot for parking or handicap spot. I was recommended to try the carne guisada, but the meat or the sauce or both was too salty. But the barbacoa here is delicious and the flour tortilla is the way to go here. If you are in a wheelchair, it is hard for you to enter the restaurant by yourself as there is a step up to enter the restaurant. Because of my disability one of the staff member help my from the beginning until the end, great service here. You order at the counter and they will give you a number and bring the food out to you. I come to this place cause my daughter likes to come here maybe back in the days. It was a good place and it was always busy not anymore. I order a chorizo beans and cheese taco and they just threw the chorizo bites. the beans on top of it with the cheese beans and chorizo were not mixed together. I went to Chilosos Taco House with a group of friends and was excited to try it based on their reviews. When I arrived, I was greeted by the very friendly staff and quickly helped. I ordered a breakfast plate with Carne Asada as well as chips/ queso for the table and a frozen mimosa. The mimosa machine wasn't working right away but we were told they'd have it fixed within 5 minutes which they did - not a problem at all. The food took awhile to arrive and when it did come... it was really cold which we were told it was because "it took them awhile to find our number". Unfortunately, the food had to be taken back and warmed. When it did come back... it was not visually appealing and really looked nothing like carne asada and tasted more like canned beef stew. I ended up leaving most of my plate full because it was not very good which I thought the same went for the mimosa. While I will likely be back to spend time with my friends, I don't anticipate eating here again. With such friendly staff and a nice ambiance, I wish the food was more enjoyable. read more

Had a not so great experience today at Chilosos. I'm wondering if there are new owners or something, since the quality/service/environment have changed since the last time I was here. We had to sit in three different spots because the ceiling was dripping on us...gross. But that wasn't even the worst part. We placed an order for dine in and the man who took our order didn't give us a number. We asked how they would find us to deliver our meal without a number, and he assured us that he would find us. Fast forward 30 minutes later we ask one of the workers to track down our order (because we saw several other groups after us getting their meals). She comes back several minutes later and asks us what we ordered. She leaves and comes back with a printed receipt of our order to make sure it was the right one. We said yes and she assured us our food would be out shortly. Fast forward another 20-30 minutes and our food is nowhere to be found. We ended up asking for a refund and discovering that they just never put in our order..... After alllll that they STILL didn't put in the order, really? It's not like they were extremely busy. And all they did was point the finger at which employee's fault they thought it was.... we don't care who is at fault, we just wanted our food. They gave us the refund but it took even more time out of our day and we had to just go find someplace else to eat. We were at Chilosos for about 1.5-2 hours total which is ridiculous. Incredibly disappointing. We've been coming to Chilosos for years but have since moved to Austin. We were visiting for the weekend and were excited to stop by, but this visit just sucked all around. Really deterred me and the other 5 people I was with from returning. Hopefully this was just a fluke, but I probably won't be returning regardless. Disappointing! The fiance absolutely loves tacos and has probably been to a good number of taco places in Houston. Hope-in-the-wall, authentic taco trucks, you name it.. he's been there. Chilosos has always been a favorite for him. The Barbocoa and steak tacos were juicy, flavorful, seasoned well and fresh! I ordered the crispy taco and actually quite enjoyed it. They have giant breakfast tacos as well with nice soft tortillas! You can fill up with 1-2 cause they're a good size! Im giving it 2 stars because the food was ready when I got there in 10 minutes to pick up. I was ordering something easy and quick for my basic old man dad and I for lunch. The beef fajita meat looked good but was inedible. Thick steak pieces that you chew and chew before finally spitting out the chunk. I accidentally left my wallet at this restaurant, and instead of turning it in untouched, someone on staff went through it and stole $115, 26¢ in change, and even took two very personal photos. When I contacted the restaurant, I was told it's a family-run business and that they were going to get to the bottom of it. That gave me some hope. But when I followed up a week later, their entire tone changed. Suddenly, they claimed there was nothing they could do and insisted that no one they knew would have taken anything. No apology. No responsibility. Just deflection. What's worse is that they made me feel like it was my fault. For a business that prides itself on being family-run, they showed absolutely no remorse and clearly chose to protect their own instead of doing the right thing. Reason for 4 stars is because of the bacon and tortillas. Bacon was too large and needed to be chopped a bit , i broke it down by hand ;) , Also the tortillas are a bit on the Thickk sidee so yeah . I got take out from this place not too long ago. I was famished & ordered 2 tacos: fajita, refried beans w pico & a bean & cheese. I picked up my bag & thought well these are heavy..... Back at my desk, I greedlily unwrapped my first taco & the freakin thing is almost as big as a burrito! The refried beans were creamy, the fajita meat was plentiful & delicious. The tacos came with salsas & the green is definitely my favorite, just the right amount of kick without setting your mouth on fire. What a hidden gem. A cute little house with a porch in the heights of 20th. I was first introduced by driving by and there was a line out the door that I just had to stop and see what all the hype was. They are consistently good, and the counter girls even seem friendlier, from their old ho-hum. - They have an addition to their coffee offering, CAFE de OLLA, which has brown sugar, cinnamon and chocolate. It it good and I hope they keep offering it. - My staple here is the bacon and egg taco on homemade corn tortillas. Over theyears, the bacon has really gotten fatty, I suppose you can order it crisp. read more

OMG! We've craved them! Then in 2003, at David's mom's funeral, his sister-in-law made that same fantastic recipe! Not the reddish kind found in most restaurants... she shared her recipe and we've been enjoying it since then! The entrance is DANGEROUS. Today I watched an elderly woman trip and fall because of the "step" and door that slams behind you. Minutes after she fell another elderly man tripped but fortunately did not fall. This has been an ongoing issue at Chilosos. Omg! So sad I am just now finding this amazing and authentic taco shop!! Stopped by after a couple of appointments in the heights and so glad I did. The tacos are so good and the real deal. The salsa is warm and the chips are crunchy as they should be. The green sauce and red sauce for the tacos are great! I got one jimmy dean, egg, bacon and cheese taco and one bacon, cheese, and potato taco - both her delicious! They were also really fast for to go and still warm when I got home to eat them. Ok so as far as breakfast tacos go these are big. Like 1 taco and you're good big. The flour tortillas are a little thick which is perfect if you're eating carne guisada. One of the few breakfast tacos that you can actually taste the chorizo. Overall a good spot. read more
