We initially weren't happy with the inspection we received with CSE. I wrote a review here on Yelp expressing my concerns and Larry gave me a call to try to rectify the situation. He ended up giving us a full refund of the inspection cost and spent over an hour doing a very thorough inspection of our chimney with lots of extra details on the report. I have to say, he seems like one of the most knowledgeable chimney contractors you could possibly find. He explained everything clearly and it was easy to understand and very enlightening. He even mentioned lots of historical facts which were interesting and I felt that he was being very honest in his findings. I have a mid-seventies home with a prefab fireplace/chimney assembly. A few years ago the damper fell out due to cracking around the mounting pins. In order for the house to pass inspection in the event of a sale I had to do something, but didn't know of any options. The guys from CSE took care of everything. They showed up on time and installed a spark arrestor, cap and chimney mounted damper assembly. Total time for the inspection and installation was about 2 1/2 hours and I couldn't be happier. I scheduled an inspection for my home during escrow. Larry was great to speak with over the phone. Unfortunately he was unable to do the inspection himself and sent Mario. I received a repair estimate from Mario for $4,279 + permit and was told my chimney was dangerous and not to use it. I was also the realtor for my own transaction. Once I clarified to Mario that I was also the would be owner, he said I should talk with Larry about getting a reduced rate. I decided to get a second opinion at that point as I felt he may have inflated the costs and repairs thinking I was merely the agent (not that it should matter!). It's a few months later and finally getting around to this. The other company (which is licensed, came recommended and also does inspections), said the chimney was in good shape. After they looked at it, I showed them Mario's report. Then went through it item by item with me. Not only were a majority of the repairs unnecessary, they declined the scheduled cleaning because it didn't need it! He showed me the internal chimney and it was clear and pretty clean! Is it older? Yes. Did it have a few dings here and there? Yes. Did I need a completely refurbished chimney to make it safe to operate? NO. I won't go into all the repair details (too many to list), but aside from a few minor things we can do ourselves like caulking along the edge of the outside mortar joints (this was rarely used gas/wood fireplace with gas logs and no real wood ever burned in it), it was good to go. The inspection caused needless stress thinking we couldn't use the fireplace without shelling out 4k+. Thankfully we decided to "let it go" during escrow so we could close quickly. Would've felt pretty stupid asking for a repair credit and stressing out the sellers over this. All I can say is that the "report" was for a completely refurbished chimney inside and out. That is not what was asked for nor required and some repairs weren't even needed at all either way. Sorry Larry - gotta be honest this was not a great experience. read more

I was preparing to have some remodeling work done, when I noticed a large crack in my chimney. I was able to schedule an inspection and the repair work in time to finish the work before the contractor showed up for the remodeling. Breinner and Mario arrived on time and finished on schedule. They took care to protect the furniture and did a great job! They were knowledgeable and courteous and paid attention to detail. This company is totally professional and knows what they are doing when it comes to fireplaces and chimneys. Our house was built in 1929. Our chimney was rebuilt after the Northridge earthquake in 1994, but now we had a problem with the firebox. They came out on time, assessed the problem, gave me a quote to do the work, explained everything clearly with diagrams, and showed up at the appointed time. While in escrow to purchase a new home, a different chimney inspector was hired by the realtors. That inspector arrived on time and did the inspection but when it came time to schedule the repair work he recommended, their customer service was so bad, I decided to find another company. I found Chimney Experts on Yelp and made the call. Monica managed the scheduling request with ease and Mario arrived to do the work right on time. Their bid was nearly identical to the original inspection in terms of what needed to be repaired and the cost. Mario and his partner (so sorry I don't have his name!) did the work, were very pleasant to deal with, were very clean and explained everything perfectly. Chimney needed complete cleaning, brick repair inside and a new cap had to be built and installed. All done very well and right on time! Excellent work. I highly recommend this company! read more

Larry Morrison is a thief and a lier. As is his rag tag crew of nonprofessionals including David, Hugo, and a so called mason named Jerry ( thats no craftsman a block layer at best) and a inspector named Nathanial that should go back to the termite field. These guys are high pressure sales man who try to scare you into doing work that is unprofessional at every level. Larry is a con man or a salesman at best. They do not even know how to flash a chimney or fix a damper. They consistently lie to people telling them they have to cut out their dampers so they can sell you a cheap spring loaded damper that sits on top of your chimney because it's fast cash. Their parge work cracks always and often fails because they real are not professional anything; except con men, salesmen, and men who put band-aides on major repairs. Or their great answer to everything is more high temp silicon, or smoke guards because they really do not know any other way. I would stay away from them, far far far away. Pay a touch more and go with a professional craftsman. These guys would throw their own mothers under a bus for enough money!!! read more

A local coupon book had a Chimney Safety Experts deal for $89, which included a Chimney Cleaning and Inspection. When I booked the appointment, they indicated that I was outside their range of 30 miles, so I'd have to pay $40 more for the same service. I spoke to a manager after doing an online map to check from their office address. There were two paths to take, one was 30.1 miles to my home, the other 29.2 miles (I took a screen shot). When I explained this, the office manager said that they run the distance from their computer, so I'd have to pay the higher price, then proceeded to tell me that the drivers only make $18 for this service...what!? I did not use this company, because I pride myself on companies that look at the bigger picture. Trying to use an emotional argument because they don't pay their workers enough confirms that this company does not care about employees OR workers. Not a place I'd like to get service from. Don't send coupons to cities that are not within your range of the offer. I went with another Yelp business and got great service. read more
