I very much like this place, am a frequent eater and call the head waitress "mother." She takes well care of me...her round eye son of sorts. Am giving three stars to this solid four star restaurant because they changed the coating on their salt and pepper shrimp and calamari. Until now, this was the only South Bay Chinese restaurant that got it right. Now they wallow deep within the herd of mediocrity . These dishes, along with their formerly yummy s & p asparagus, were customer favorites. That coating was barely noticeable, allowing the delicate flavors of shrimp and calamari to be tasted, not overwhelmed . Accented with diced jalapeño peppers, speckled with hot mustard and bits of steamed rice every spoonful or chop stick load was a riot of deliciciousness tumbling in your mouth. You lost the babble of the other consumers conversation. It ceased. You were drifting in another plane of gustatory spirituality. Exotic. And now ? A plate of puffy finger blobs, oozing oil, is presented. The table is shocked into silence. This is not what we ordered and certainly nothing any sane person would put into their mouth. Like those horrid , thick beer battered grease sponges served mostly to drunk patrons blitzed while ordering from the bar menu. Yes, some brainiac decided to change something that had been working very well for crap. The waiter picked up those greasy plates and returned for our new orders . Apparently this is a regular end to this ill conceived decision. If this had happened in mainland China, the perpetrator of this slaughter of something good for something bad would be publicly shamed. He would have to sit on a stool wearing a dunce cap and wear a sign hanging from his neck proclaiming, "I am a fool for placing my taste above that of my customers." I apologize for holding back how I really feel about this travesty. We were trying to find L&L and ended at China China. At first I told my hubby this place looks "americanized" and he was like whatever lets eat! Atmosphere was great, service was awesome ( daughter spit up and the girl ran and grabbed some napkins), refilled our waters and overall it was 4 stars. I can't remember exactly what we ordered but it was the dinner for 2 cantonese option $11-12 per person. On top we added my favorite Honey Walnut Shrimp. Golden House is still my fave in SD so far! the meal had wonton soup - tons of flavour and tasting it I still thought "americanized". Appies were - 2 wings, 2 gyozas and an eggroll per person - this was just the usual flavour. But............ when the food came out. I was WRONG. Total authentic. You know what I mean if you frequent asian restaurants.. It 's the way the food is cooked, stir fried, the glossy oil speckles on the sauce, the taste... you just know especially of you're asian. We went here based on a friend's rave for great local Chinese. It's in the shopping center. Boyfriend, "What's the name?" "China China" "How bout we try Ina Ina." Yes, they need to fix quite a few lights. Impressed that they serve Diet Coke in the fountain. They give you the option of white rice or fried rice for same price. Orange chicken was decent, they give you a lot. OMG, the next day the orange chicken is straight rancid. It wasn't worth stealing my bf's leftovers for lunch the next day. Gag I ordered Egg Foo Young for the first time. I had no idea I was getting an omelette with gravy. It was decent because I was starving, but it had real no flavor to it. We ordered take out and here is what we recived 1. Kung Pao Chicken- it was chicken, onions, peppers and peanuts This was poorly done, you can get better at Panda Express. 2. Brocoli Beef- it was really the only dish done right! 3. Orange chicken- was very pooly done It was soggy and really not cooked in a hot enough wok. It was soggy and the crust was awful, the sauce was from a can. More like a crappy microwave dinner. 4.sizzleing beef was anthing but sizzleing it looked like a sweet sour sauce stew...yuck! Awful. 5. Fried rice recived a "F" it was basicly a oily fried rice with cooked egg chuncks in it. I've lived in Chula Vista for 14 years, never ate here as I don't come to Terra Nova very often. Decided to try it as a new experience. Well....as you might have read from my other reviews, my husband Ernie is MUCH kinder than I am about reviews and food quality. On this one, he ate the shrimp off his dish, a few noodles, and then passed on all the rest. I asked him what he thought and he said he wasn't impressed. That says it all. The almond chicken was flavorless. The most flavor was in the sliced almonds. The egg drop soup was a neon orange color, and bland. I actually had to ADD salt to the dishes to squeeze out some flavor. The lunch salad started out okay, but then the dressing got watered down about halfway through it....and we are talking a small cup of soup here. No wontons. Won't come here again. There's not too many good Chinese restaurants in Chula Vista. This place is one of the better Chinese food places that you will find in Chula Vista. The best dish there is the House Chow Mein (we substituted beef for the ham) it's the best chow mein I ever tasted in San Diego. The rest of the Chinese food there is ok but the chow mein is the only thing really worth going there for. We ordered sushi as well, their prices is kinda steep, the rolls range from $5 and up so you can see why we ordered a lot of California rolls (cause they were the cheapest lol) The also charge a gratuity for parties 6 or more. It had shrimp and chicken for protein and the noodle was chow fun - the flat thick noodles that have very good chewing texture/sensation. Very Good - my little additional touch was, if you add little bit of lemon, it taste like pad thai. So you get Chinese and Thai all in one dish. My BF got noodles with soup. It's looks like japanese noodles but soup base was definately chinese - the herbs that were used for soup base. They have very big chunks of beef but you could tell it used to be very tough but soft due to long time on stove. While I do appreciate the big size of the beef, was not a fan of the beef itself - gave to my dog (she loved it!). Might be back but I have whole new neighbor to explor so might not be back for a while. I love this place so I hate to put a bad review, but man! Service is becoming worse and worse until finally I've had enough. The food as always is delish but the server was aweful. The servers don't care and are not friendly, they haven't been for some years. It's more of just an order taker kinda thing. Don't ask for anything because you will get a stink eye. I had to take it upon myself to find my server because she didn't feel like coming to take our order, and there she was eating lunch in the middle of the restaurant with her colleges... This place looks nice, kind of clean, entering the place had several tables quite dirty. No one ever came to sit us down after waiting 10min, this was a sign to leave. Then the waitress was a bad mannered elderly lady, that just keep pushing you to order without helping us with our questions. My next big disappointment was that they don't have lunches on the weekends, maybe I am spoiled but all the good chinese places I go have them all week. The food is subpar. The only draw-back to eating here is the location - for two reasons. 1. Using MapQuest or Google Maps will get you lost trying to find the place. 2. Exit H-Street and turn left to cross the bridge over the 805. The first shopping center on the right is where it is located so make your second right into the shopping center and look to your left (it's next to the Bed, Bath & Beyond). Try the House Special Chicken - you will not be dissapointed. The food is served family style but you could easily take one other person and have a soup each (I think their cup of eggdrop soup is $1!) an order of eggrolls and a plate of House Special Chicken and be full and out the door for under $15. You'd be hard pressed to find any other Chinese restaurant worth mentioning in South County compared to China China. read more

I had eaten here before, but based upon the first reviewer's comments on the house special chicken, I went back. And BOY AM I GLAD! The chicken absolutely rocked. I've been looking for a good General's chicken anyplace in south San Diego area for over 5 years, and hadn't found one even close. Now, to find this in my back yard was wonderful. While it's not your standard "General's Chicken" with the dripping sauce that's almost too hot to enjoy, it's a darn close version. The meat was properly cooked, the seasoning was outstanding, and the portion was big enough to save half for later. The one thing that I didn't like was the fried rice I got with the meal. Typically, when I get fried rice, I expect to find a little bit of other stuff mixed in, like egg, green onion, peas, maybe even some carrot slivers. But with this, it was just rice, hardly browned, and a few random pieces of corn. (In my opinion, corn is more of an American thing than a Chinese thing, but I may be wrong there.) And one comment on the directions given by Mark S (The first reviewer): When you get off the freeway, make sure you take the EAST H exit, not the West H-street one. West H will put you into more shopping-oriented areas of town, but no good Chinese restaurants (unless you like seedy buffets). read more

All three were overly breaded to the point some pieces were just the breading. The chefs chicken was supposed to be spicy but it was so dry I couldn't even taste any sauce. The first course is a tasteless egg drop soup which even soy sauce couldn't save, followed by a plate of fried beyond recognition items, and finally cashew chicken (sweet beyond belief) and Mongolian beef (bland, soggy and gross). Will not be returning. They couldn't even get the green tea right! And obviously the server couldn't care less that there were full plates of food left on the table and when she asked us if we wanted boxes we said we didn't as it wasn't very good. I eat here about once a month. Never had a bad dish that I can recall over the years. I love the war wonton soup on cold days. I tend to order a different dish each time and friends always share. Like I said never had a bad dish sometimes not overly WOW but not bad. My 3 stars is due to my last visit there. The service was horrid.. I mean worst I have had in a long time anywhere. The first time I had bad service like this at China China. A family that everyone most of known came in and was sitting next to our table. The child was spitting food all over the booth and the parents ignored her to start. The waitress did nothing but fawn over the kid and the family. Mind you standing 3 inches away from our table and and it took her 4 times visiting the other couple to notice empty glasses sitting at the edge of the table for her to refill(a nice excuse me for her attention didn't work either). Took 3 more attempts for her to offer us the check but never asked if we wanted boxes for left overs because she was too busy talking to the other family. Oddly, I am a over tipper. I tend to tip 20 to 30% for decent service. I use to waitress. The women hovered at the front count when I went to pay watching to see if I added a tip(after ignoring us most of the dinner).
