A great buffet value for the money. Everything was tasty and fresh with a good variety. I wanted to try a lot of items but was too full.

Opening in 1998, Paradise Chinese Buffet in Montebello is the original of the four Paradise brands…read morein the LA area. This location was recently named one of three LA area buffets in the top 150 in the country, based on Google reviews. I've been to a lot of buffets (Chinese and otherwise), and this was near the top, especially based on the price. We came about 30 minutes after its 11 am opening, and the place was already packed with a line waiting to get in. You pay first, getting water and soda cups at checkout (plates are plentiful near the buffet itself). Emmelyn was the check-in associate, and she was joyful and friendly, putting a smile on my wife's face after a stressful drive through LA traffic. We found out that my wife's lunch was free because it was her birthday. Lunch pricing is $15.19 (M-F), minus $1 for seniors and military. Refillable soda is $2.99. It's find your own seating, and we grabbed the first seats we could find. -- being super crowded meant the food was constantly being replenished and kept fresh. It also meant a lot of line (inadvertent) line cutting and careful, slow movements...need to be careful for sure. -- the taste of the food was good, mainly because most things were turning over quickly. However, the selection of dishes wasn't huge, and the soups didn't look too good. -- I focused on the sushi and was satisfied. They had different type simple rolls and nigiri, with soy sauce at each table. They also had a bottle of eel sauce to douse your rolls with more, if you want. Towards the end, discovered a New Zealand green mussel dish in a hot chili sauce, which I took full advantage of. -- the must get is the Mongolian Grill, which dominates the center of the restaurant. There were three types of sliced frozen meat (beef, chicken, pork), a variety of vegetables (including my favorite, baby corn), and various runny sauces that you pour on top when done. Once your bowl is complete, you need to give it to the operator. But here its a bit different: it operates on a unique system that I've only seen here. In the front counter, there are 20 spots where numbered pager sits. Once a person fills up a bowl with raw ingredients, they place it on the next available pager spot, taking the pager with them. Once the food is cooked, the pager goes off. You then exchange the bowl in your spot, with the pager...and the cycle continues. I asked myself what would happen if all 20 pagers were taken, and decided if that happened, you would have to wait since there would be no more space on the grill for your plate anyway. The system worked really well, with all three of us taking advantage of it. Taste wise, I've had better but certainly not for that price. And I just love the efficiency of it all. -- soft serve ice cream was available, and it was very thick and creamy (though a bit off in taste). My wife also mentioned that you can get cotton candy as well. -- Service was good, with an employee in a hostess outfit personally letting us know that she was there to assist us, including getting drinks. She did clear dishes when necessary, but also seemed to be supervising our section. What's interesting is that the same report mentioned King Buffet in Garden Grove, which now seems to be another branch of the Paradise chain. So need to be leery of such reports not being current...but in this case, following its suggestion paid off.

They have Teppanyaki with a buzzer when your food is ready. Although it was a little bland and we had to use lots of sauce. There is also an ice cream dispenser which was good. Whatever appetizers we ordered arrived late or never arrived at all and the banchan refills never came either. Servers just kept pressuring us to order and eat faster or be forced to leave. How could we eat faster when we were still waiting on food and the meat hasn't been cooked properly? When our last order of Galbi was finally cooked and we were going to finish it and leave, the server just told us to get out because our time was up. Left a serving of Galbi there to waste. Not even the worst restaurant with the worst service has ever asked me to leave. It's not right, no matter how busy you are. They asked us to leave faster than the rats that used to infest this place! Never coming back, which is probably what you guys want anyway . Owner might fight this review too. May not be able to handle constructive criticism, I've seen the TikToks and posts. Take some feedback instead of shaming your paying customers!

Fuji itself was probably like 40-50% occupied and there was plenty of parking. For $37 (and 20% for seniors on Mon/Tues), I thought it was pretty worth for the amount of food we ate. - Korean rib (grill): thinly cut, tender, and nicely marinated (even when you don't ask for any special sauces). so yummy to eat it fresh off the grill - snow crab: i prefer eating this hot than chilled, and it hit the spot! meaty, sweet crab. they refilled this often - cajun seafood: not too salty! includes mussels, shrimps, thin corn cobs which I actually prefer - crawfish: nicely marinated and tasty but dry meat ); parents said the last time they had this here a month ago it was better - salmon sashimi was also restocked and tasted fresh - Fish maw soup/chowder: both were tasty as well - matcha ice cream: yummm - lots of fresh fruit options: blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe, honeydew, grapes, cherries even Other selections are standard and not bad. Dim Sum is unique but usually not done well so I didn't even bother. Chicken feet isn't bad tho Bathrooms could be cleaner and service was slooow. We maybe saw our waiter like 3 times? He only cleared our plates once and he never offered us water refills, which we had to actively flag him down for. It wasn't busy as it was a Monday and we were the only table in that seating area (lower level by the Mongolian grill)

The fried chicken was room temperature, the fries were mushy, the salt and pepper calamari was chewy and cold. The crab legs were the only item that was good, it wasn't overcooked, perhaps that's the benefit of the food not being hot in the buffet. Dishes were cleared but drinks were not refilled. And drinks are in addition to the buffet price. The desserts are sad. Place is clean and large, but not particularly well kept. We will not be coming back.

In addition, at dinner only, each person can order one lamb shank - just this piece of meat alone is worth your $28.99 visit. The restaurant food section is maintained very cleanly, food is beautifully displayed for a self-serve buffet restaurant. Plenty of seating area with ability to accommodate larger parties, and feels family friendly. The only shortcoming they have is that their fruit section tastes consistently unappealing, and some of the desserts don't tastes too great either. But at least their main dishes taste good. Regardless, this is a regular lunch spot frequented, and would bring friends over for dinner here, if they ever feel like Mediterranean.

To be fair, I went on a weekend, so I paid the highest price. I could see this place being a much better value during weekday lunch. The inside was very clean, which I appreciated. One thing that felt a little awkward was the service setup. There didn't really seem to be servers inside, and you pay when you leave, so I wasn't completely sure how much tip made sense. I noticed they even had a 10% tip option, so I'm guessing they know the setup can feel a little unclear. The food overall was clean and decent. It felt like they had pretty much everything you would expect from an American-style Mediterranean/Middle Eastern buffet. Nothing really stood out as especially amazing, but there was a good variety, and most of the food gave me that "this is probably healthy" feeling. I'd consider coming back if I were with friends who really like Mediterranean food.

We were placed in a semi-private area. The restaurant had ample indoor seating and was fairly spacious to move around. If you've been to other Asian buffets, you'll know what to expect at reasonable prices. The Hits: - Fire-grilled BBQ station (steak, galbi (short ribs), pork belly, and squid) - Variety of sushi and rolls (average quality for the nigiri) - Dim sum options (popular items that get refilled regularly) - Desserts and fruits - 16 flavors of ice cream - Coffee and boba station The Misses (that I tried) - the orange chicken (flavor was off and bland) - fried chicken wings (looked good and crispy, but they were bland and had no seasoning) Service and staff were great. From taking drinks orders to clearing used plates, they were fairly attentive to everyone in the party. The food was refilled at decent times as well. There were plenty of seniors dining here since there's a special price for seniors. Reservations are recommended for large parties or peak dining times (dinner and weekends). This was our first time here, and it was a pleasant experience overall. It's a decent Asian buffet if you're in the area. A solid 3.5/5 rating.
