I was going to write an extensive review of our completely subpar experience, but it's enough to say this place is terrible, and you are doing yourself a huge favor by going anywhere but here. The food is below mediocre. The drinks are watered down. The service is non-existent. (I know it's a buffet, but they're still supposed to bring you the initial drink that you order when getting seated, and also regularly clear your table of dirty plates -- neither of those happened.) The serving stations are dirty. Other diners have little regard for cleanliness or the decency not to mix serving tongs or ice cream scoopers. Yesterday...having spent around $100.00 on a beef tongue bowl and a Kobe Hamari Skirt Steak Bowl at the Red Rock Izakaya in Arcadia Mall. I really began thinking, did I get any real value out of it...and no matter how I thought about it, I felt the end result was I overpaid for two entrees. Food was good, not exceptional, but it didn't match the price. And so today, before setting out on my rig for Oakley California, Ive decided to come back to one of San Gabriel Valley's most jam packed buffetts, and see what's changed. You walk in, there's a wait list, and on a weekday, seats filled with seniors amongst seniors, a sea of half bald Asian heads and grey hair. All I can say is, this place checks every box on a diner's list looking for true cost savings and a diverse array of dishes. The seniors have voted. The hibachi stall offering steaks, pork chops, pork bellies , Shrimp to be honest taste no less better than what Red Rock was trying to do with its grilled steaks. The sushi here is surprisingly fresh and Trumps Luxe Buffett in Ontario in terms of food freshness. We came around 5pm, so we were quickly seated with only a handful of tables occupied. We ordered our drinks and made our way around the location to figure out what they had. They had ice cream and boba tea in the back corner, then came the dim sum options, hot foods, items for the grill, sushi, desserts with a chocolate fountain, and a mixture of cold items, such as fruits, seafood, and more desserts. Right away I got a plate of snow crabs and noticed the seafood boil the had shrimp and corn, so I got one of that as well the clams and some pieces of sushi. The crab legs were easy to open though I did have my husband request for crab cracker to help me with the harder pieces. I definitely preferred dipping the crab meat into the seafood boil sauce than the melted butter they had. The clams were pretty good as well, so I made sure to get a second round of them with the snow crabs. I did dabble in trying other foods, but preferred my seafood combo that I got. Once I had my fill with savory, I tackled the sweets and buffets are always fun to try new desserts but overall my fave was just good ol' pistachio almond ice cream with my milk tea. Overall, a good experience with both the restroom and dining area being clean. They offer any kind of seafood you can think of raw and cooked oyster, cooked mussels, various sushi and sashimi. Overall Shiki's quality and general experience seem to be lower than in the past. There are just better Asian buffets out there for comparable prices. Shiki is located in a large sized strip mall with shared parking. Like all similar lots in the area, it gets overcrowded and there are not enough spaces for the number and popularity of the businesses in the mall--there are several other popular restaurants nearby in the mall. Consequently, parking can be challenging. As with many businesses in the SGV area, the Shiki staff are cold to rude due to the constant abuse they take from their rude customers. Due to this situation and likely CA minimum wage laws, Shiki now charges a mandatory gratuity when you pay before you eat. Historically in CA/US, buffets only used to charge you before you eat if they were concerned about getting stiffed. Since there is a major shooting at the corner of their lot about once a year, apparently they are in the kind of neighborhood where entitled or dishonest customer try to eat for free, The food quality has also declined over the year. Apparently, sashimi is considered a premium item now (or has been discontinued???) and is only available at certain times like their crab legs and other premium items. The dim sum at buffets is never stellar, but has really gone down hill here. The hot items used to be ok, and some still are, but none are super exciting. Despite all this, they still get super crowded at peak hours and you can still expect a long wait. Try to go at non-peak times because even with the premium food items it is no longer worth the wait. On recent visits (extended family often forces us to eat here for family meals), we have had tummy trouble afterward. Although this is probably one of the only Asian buffets still operating in the immediate area, we would recommend fighting traffic to go elsewhere if possible, If not, then expect to pay a lot, be charged a tip up front, and have a mediocre experience at best with the food and quality of service, with possible toilet trouble afterward. read more

For $24.99/adult (less for seniors 65+), I believe this buffet represents a great value for those with massive appetites (the price increases dramatically for dinner, holidays, and/or on weekends). There is truly something for everyone here, regardless of any dietary restrictions one may have. Quite a few of the menu items were hit or miss - e.g. the ice cream, black sugar boba, and milk tea were surprisingly good. The cream puffs were dry trash, and the Thai Tea was disappointing in flavor. I did enjoy the mussels and sushi. No crab legs appeared to be available - I suspect they must only be available during dinner/weekends. A large variety of free (included in the base admission price) non-alcoholic beverages were available. There is a 10-12% service charge (depending on the size of your party), but per the written notices posted everywhere in the restaurant, no tips are expected. The posted dining time limit is 2 hours. Plenty of parking was available in the lot outside. The restroom infrastructure on-site is *absurdly* inadequate relative to the capacity of the spacious dining area. Staff were very good about attentively clearing out empty dirty plates from our table. I did not experience any illness from dining here, but my cousin stated that he vomited shortly after dining here with me. I've been told that I have a cast iron stomach. The interior was beautiful. Plenty of places to seat. Like most buffets, you pay first, then the waiter takes you to your seat. Non-alcoholic drinks were included. The melon juice and strawberry and banana smoothie were delicious. The crab legs were a must as they were juicy and sweet. The oysters and sushi were not fresh. They also have a sushi and sashimi area, along with a decent variety of seafood--snow crab legs, oysters, Dungeness crab, shrimp, and more. I didn't try the seafood this time, so I can't really comment on freshness. The hot food section was just okay--nothing bad, but nothing that stood out either. I actually do love the variety of seafood they offer and everything else as pretty fresh except their escargot. I loved their variety of soups they had, most places only have clam chowder and hot and sour soup. This place had seaweed soup, herbal soup, chicken soup, and fish maw soup (my fav). They also offered two types of crab; snow crab legs and halves of rock crab (for those that love eating crab brains). They widened their sushi offerings. I went here on November 22 for my great aunt's birthday. I loved the variety of food that was available, I wasn't expecting there to be dim sum or sushi. Service was alright, it was a large party so a few dozen people were with me. There was a server that had a push cart with drinks. She asked if we wanted any and the options were soda and tea. You could get your own drink at the buffet too. Plates were taken quickly in the first hour or so, then it took a few minutes because more customers were appearing later on through the day. Went back for an early Mother's Day celebration. They've since updated the tipping policy and require payment prior to dining. Fountain drinks are now included in the dining price, and I noticed that they have a coffee/cappuccino machine, and a boba tea station! The food was still very good for a buffet-- where in other places might lack in quality. I definitely overate in seafood and grilled meats, so I wasn't able to grab any boba tea. Came here on a Wednesday evening with a reservation for 20. They sat us even though we were only 6 people and earlier than our reservation time; assuming because it wasn't busy. The service was really nice, not chatty, but attentive to come take your drink order upon seating and clear your plates when you were ready. Keep in mind, all drinks are included in the price so go ahead and order that soda or pink lemonade if you want it! There's also a self serve tea station in the buffet line. Food was your average buffet, but I noticed there wasn't the "kid" options like pizza or chicken nuggets. So if your kid only wants dishes like that, I hope they like French fries. I also didn't see a plain corn on a cob option, but they had corn in the Cajun seafood boil. I wish they had the plain corn because my son wanted my Cajun boil corn but that was too spicy for him to have. Overall, the food was good, but definitely catered towards the grown up crowd. They had oysters, cooked and raw option, sushi, kbbq, shrimp, snails, crab legs, dimsum, and more. All the food I had were cooked pretty well. Nothing I picked out I didn't think was bad. Desserts had a good variety of ice cream, fewer pastries than other places I've been to. They also have a chocolate fountain by the fruits. Okay. You're probably wondering why I'd give this place 4 stars.... LOL I wonder that myself... but a couple of things: 1. You pay when you walk in and there are signs everywhere saying that they'll charge you 10% extra for their employees BUT also explain that you do not need to tip thereafter. I found this to make life easier without having to figure out the bill or ascertain service quality. 2. We came in with a stroller and they put us in a side room instead of the main floor. The side rooms are very roomy and gave us plenty of space to park our stroller, get in and out from our tables to get food, and also let our baby cry without disturbing other patrons (and feeling that low-key embarrassment). 3. The selection in this place is pretty good when it comes to chinese + seafood offerings. If you're looking for a more American type of buffet, then go elsewhere... like Golden Corral. LOL. The food quality isn't the greatest, but it did the trick when we were craving seafood. (I just wanted salmon sashimi... again, not the best quality, but it did the trick while i was desperate.) Haven't come here in a long time. We were regulars like once a week when they first reopened after the pandemic but once they added crab legs and raised the price it weeded us out because we just didn't like their snow crab legs. Still don't. Today we came because we wanted some AYCE sushi with benefits and found that they had raised the price again but they have a lot of additional changes that are worth the cost. They now have lobster, abalone, more oysters, and a drink bar included. First off the lobster: it's lobster chopped up and then fried but while it looks dry, it's surprisingly meaty without being too dense and tastes very fresh. It's not over seasoned either. The only problem are the vultures that never leave any because that's all they came to eat. The abalone are small but very tender and mildly flavored. Like a cross between squid and clam. The other staples from before are all still here and consistently great: The hot foods are better than many other buffets. The dim sum is a good variety including desserts. The grilled meats to order are still worth the wait. They still have a great ice cream bar, more fresh fruit options than before, and a cake/cookie section. The new drink bar is so impressive. It's included with dine in and has delicious milk tea, Thai tea, passion fruit green tea, pineapple tea, a coffee/expression machine thing (I don't know jack about coffee), and fresh fruit juices (today was honeydew and a strawberry banana smoothie). There is also a toppings bar with boba, and jackfruit jelly, etc. The variety of offerings have expanded so much here. I'm very impressed with how they have up-kept this buffet while others just reliably go downhill. A lot of the servers are still the same and just as nice and attentive. Please note there is now a service charge included and they tell you not to tip. They have a kbbq station, sushi, your typical Chinese hot bar food, dim sum section, seafood, DIY boba station, chocolate fountain, self serve ice cream station, desserts, and more. GET: Crab legs, galbi, boba, ice cream SKIP: Pork belly, oysters, sushi, fruits, baked desserts The crab legs are pretty good, not super skinny or overly salted like some other places. The galbi is the thing to get, the marinade is SO good and the meat is very tender. Fish quality of the sushi was disappointing. Fruits are quite bland, not super fresh. The smoothies seem shockingly popular, they go flying off the shelves. The boba is shockingly good. Dessert selection is a bit smaller than other places and stuff is pretty old/flavorless, but this is made up for by abundant ice cream flavor selection. Rarely do I eat AYCE buffets these days, but Shiki was a nice surprise! I was impressed by the quality of the food, especially the spicy fish, egg custard tarts, and cut fruits. Shiki Seafood Buffet has just about any sort of Chinese dish to enjoy, from stir-fries to dim sum to, of course, crab legs. You do get your money's worth, especially if you come with a large party.
