Wish I could give a review without a star. This was the worst Chinese I have ever experienced...EVER!! The fried rice was not fried at all and it was chopped up like cauliflower rice. The taste was awful. I ordered spicy garlic shrimp. I received not spicy not garlic SCALLOPS!! Thank god I'm not allergic to them anymore. The general tso chicken was mostly breading and no chicken. Picked up dinner from here twice in he last couple months. Both times I ordered the orange chicken. The first time I got the spiciest orange chicken. The second time I just got hot. The chicken was cooked well and the breading was crispy. There was plenty of sauce as well. The flavor was ok. It felt more like sesame chicken than orange chicken. I also had the wontons the second time. The wontons were good. They also gave me plenty of sweet and sour sauce. The portion size is good enough for two meals. This restaurant is under new ownership since March/April 2017. The owner is generally at the front desk when entering. I have been ordering take out for about 9 years at this location and the Chinese had always been about average. but now the food is as good as anywhere and the service top notch. On Thursday 9/8/2017 I ordered (for the second time in one month) the Thai pineapple chicken with yellow curry and it seemed fine and the fried Vietnamese Fried Egg Rolls were also. The dish presentation while really "take out" still had plenty of meat and veggies and the rolls came with the necessary egg noodles, herbs, lettuce for wraps and fish sauce. Almost as if you were at a Pho 777. This restaurant is worth a second look if you were previously disappointed. We all know Castle Rock- the town itself- restaurants and the buildings are "mostly" very sad to look at - and the new clean development is just north of the town of Castle Rock but are just fast food causal outlets, hardly a mecca for sit down restaurants. Maybe one day Castle Rock's city council will place stricter building codes on existing structures and force the current owners to tear down all of these old structures. There is nothing historic or attractive in many peoples opinion, and frankly most look like fire traps, because the are!! Give the new ownership at China Café and Asian a chance and if you like it say so to the owner and if you have a suggestion offer it in a polite and professional manner. read more

I just had one of the worst meals in my lifetime from China Café. I had to wait an hour for my order. I had called it in they said 20 minutes. I got there in 20 minutes and had to wait another 40 minutes for my order. The Vietnamese eggrolls tasted like they were three days old and they were cold. The lemon chicken, also, tasted like it was a day or two old. It was dry and rubbery. The egg foo young, had a terrible texture. The vegetables were over cooked as well. Had this delivered through Doordash and delivery was great, quick and friendly service. But then I ate the food... The egg drop soup tasted like it had been sitting cold for hours and just got heated up in a microwave and the egg rolls had no taste other than rice paper. Gross. The rice was overcooked and a congealed mess (not like sticky rice, more like oatmeal) and the Sesame Combination was really just hard chicks of breading with very little meat. We go to China Cafe every couple weeks, and have always had a great meal. The wait staff always remembers us, always humors our need for extra spicy food, and always provides great service. That's a lot of consistency. Our favorites are lemon chicken and some of the soups for two. read more

Came in at 7 pm, ordered simple vegetable fried rice, and was given my food within 15 minutes. Food was good, no complaints. Server was diligent in filling up our water glasses whenever they looked even half way empty. I really didn't like South Garden, so I decided to try China Cafe since there aren't many choices in CR. It is SO much better than South Garden. It is traditional americanized chinese food. You get bigger portion than South Garden and it is cheaper too. It just tastes SO much better. I picked up my husband in Castle Rock and we get in the car and start driving. It's one of those things where you finally realized you don't know where you are going and you ask the dreaded question - where would you like to eat.....Before I got the usual response - I don't care I said Mexican, Pizza, Bistro, Cafe, Chinese. he says Chinese and I say when looking on Yelp before I left home there is a place that is getting good review right over there. So cutting over two lanes of traffic to get where we wanted to go (and no I didn't cut anyone off) we drove 2 blocks and found China Cafe in a Strip Mall by the Grocery Store. I walked in and it has typical Chinese Restaurant decor and only one table was seated for dining. There were two young girls behind the front counter/register that jumped up and seated us quickly. The menu is quite extensive and everything looked wonderful and there were good smells coming from the kitchen. We finally settled on Sweet & Sour Combination (Shrimp, Chicken and pork) and a Sesame combination (Shrimp, Chicken and beef) along with crab cheese wontons and egg rolls. The wontons and egg rolls arrive after only a few minutes and they were pipping hot - like burn your taste buds off your tongue hot. After letting them cool a bit they were very tasty - the wontons had the right ration of cream cheese to wonton however I didn't get a real flavor of the crab but they were yummy none the less - the Egg rolls were well done and had the right ration of meat to veggie stuffing. The combo dinners were good. The sesame had a very nice hint of fresh ginger but just a touch on the sweet side for me. I'm not a huge fan of Sweet & Sour anything but this was good, my husband loved it. I found the breading to be a little much for my liking but it was easy enough to remove the extra breading. I'll definitely be back to sample some other tasty items from their menu. read more

Finally found a place that serves east coast style Chinese food in Colorado! While this place is on the pricey side I'm very happy with the quality of the food. If you are looking for that east coast flavor come here. I think the negative reviews about the food come from people that aren't used to that type of food. The only small negatives are the price being a tad bit high and while the staff is attentive they don't seem to be on the same page. The eggrolls are very good, and not greasy like many places. The wait staff (Ary) is great, and never writes anything down no matter the size of the party. He's always friendly to talk to. China Cafe is our go-to Chinese restaurant for pick-up. Now that it's under new ownership, it's been even more delicious. My husband and I normally order two different entrees with fried rice (their fried rice is very mild and not greasy, does not interfere with the flavor of main dishes) and a large bowl of egg drop soup to share. Save yourself an evening of regret and go somewhere else. The food was sub par dollar scoop quality (mind you, I love me some dollar scoop) while charging close to PF Chang's prices. We ordered wontons, orange chicken and a combination rice noodle bowl. The wontons were mediocre, but the most edible thing out of the order. The orange chicken was oddly seasoned, with half of the pieces of chicken being mostly bread. The rice noodle bowl was a joke. My shrimp looked like flaming hot Cheetos. The bean sprouts tips were brownish gray, so I didn't even touch those. And the chicken, beef and pork were tough, dry and also poorly seasoned. Everything tasted off. Even when my order included a special request, they still are spot on with accuracy. The food has been ready for pickup on time, every time.
