Orange Chicken, Beef Broccoli w/ no Beef, half Chow Mein & Fried Rice

China Chef has been mine & my fam's go-to for Chinese food for as long as I can remember. I have plenty of great memories of coming here with my grandparents when I was a little girl. The veggie egg rolls are the best I've had and I'm a sucker for their fried rice and orange chicken. Well, I really hate to say this but there's a reason I haven't been here in a long time. The last time my mom stopped by to get some food she noticed one of the cooks had came back from the restroom while still wearing gloves. A family in front of her called him out on it and ended up walking out of the line. The cook gave a confused look and proceeded to walk back into the kitchen while still wearing the same gloves. This story has since left me conflicted and I haven't had Chinese food in well over a year now since I don't know any other good Chinese take-out spots in LB. The cleanliness of this establishment has scared me straight to the point where I've removed this spot from my usual rotation. This sucks because I truly loved the food from China Chef but I can't eat a combo from here in good conscience while knowing that the food might still be prepared in an unsanitary manner. I dislike leaving negative reviews but I can only be honest, especially when it comes down to the cleanliness of the food that's being served to the public. Overall, the food is and has always been great but restaurant/staff have proven to be unsanitary. Eat at your own discretion. Btw to anyone reading this, please feel free to send me recommendations of other good Chinese take-out spots in LB. SYOY!

Reasonable prices, but the food didn't quite hit the spot for me. I got orange chicken, mixed vegetables, half-and-half chow mein and rice, plus two egg rolls. Unfortunately, everything was overly greasy and lacked flavor. Maybe I came on an off day, or I just ordered the wrong thing I might try something else on their menu next time. Service was OK. The restaurant was decent. Plenty of space to dine in.

Been coming here since 2012. Besides the food itself ,it has a special place in my heart and in my families. Sadly , we are not so pleased with it any more. They have become very stingy with their portions and the food doesn't taste as good as it did back then. I asked for an egg roll and got a veggie roll. Fried rice was delicious , orange chicken was mid. Forever a place in my heart but I'm not a huge fan any more/:

First time here: Large amount of food, good taste, a lot of places to sit. We came for lunch on a Friday, after stopping at the close-by Kaiser-Permanente Long Beach office. The menu is clearly shown, and whatever food is available, are the choices you have. They do seem to have a side order section where you can order things like Mongolian beef or shrimp fried rice. All the classics were there: my wife usually share a combo at other places, so did the same thing here: one egg roll, orange chicken, broccoli beef, on top of mix of fried rice and noodles, for $11.50 (free small drink). The nice lady scooped the food into carry-out container, put it into a plastic bag for transport. Then we paid (only cash accepted here), and found a place to sit. They don't ask if dine-in/carry out since everything gets packaged in the carryout plastic containers, and because there is no option for 3 items, no need for a separate container. They will basically fill up the clam shell container with enough food so it shuts, but no air between. We ate inside in one of the booths, and the food was good. Orange chicken sauce had decent white meat chicken with a very tangy, orange sauce...got pretty soggy. The broccoli beef was good too...very fresh broccoli pieces, chopped and cooked well, and the beef wasn't too mushy. The egg roll was crispy, but little flavor. And the small soda was greatly appreciated.

I used to love coming here a few years back because of their fried chicken. It's very delicious but can get a bit to salty if your mouth is dry. Their choices of food selection are not bad either. Per combo, they give you a piece of egg rolls and a small soda. It's not bad for $10.50 plus tax. I ordered 2 combos, half rice and noodles plus fried chicken with kong pow chicken. Wasn't too bad. There are so many to choose from. They can get pretty busy but not that busy, dont let the line stretch from the outside fool you. Just how they set up their food stations cause people stand outside. Simple tactics to get this place looking busy if you were to drive by and saw a line from the outside. This place needs to be better by using the back space for line formation instead of storage space. Looks so unsanitary for a business that's been operating for a couple of decades now. Dont get me wrong, business doing pretty good, actually. But would be grateful if they invest something into the business to give back to the consumer. Simple upgrades wouldn't hurt. This place is unique in their own way, from design and presentation, it's pretty nice. If you're in the area, stop by and say hi. Enjoy it here or on the go. Share your experience. P.s. Don't forget to smile cause you're beautiful. SYOY!

My family and I have been going here for years, it has been our go to place for Chinese food in Long Beach. Here are a few things I'd like to note: -this place is CASH only -lines get pretty long around dinner time, so anytime before four is when you wanna go -Pay attention to the workers when your plate is being filled. When you have order multiple plates, they can accidentally mix up your plates or give the wrong entrees. Checking your order is essential -Lately, it has been a bit more inconsistent. Some days, the food is very flavorful and other days can be really bland. No way to tell -if you get combos with no drink, they will substitute for an extra eggroll -tons of options and variety with the entrees - a few of my favorite items would have to be chop suey, fried chicken (crispy and salty), and the mushroom dish -great portion sizes, definitely enough for three meals Regardless, I always recommend this spot to my friends.

If I could I'd give it a negative the food is greasy with no seasoning not flavor I ordered the beef and broccoli with orange chicken and chow main and all the whole plate is trash af I want a refund the two vegetable egg rolls it came with hardly had vegetables in it and even that was hardly edible

2 item combo comes with a small drink and an egg roll
    Chad K.

Not my go-to Chinese Fast Food place by far, but they do have a few things going for them: 1. They are open late 2. The 2-item combo comes with 1 egg roll & a small drink and is $10.50 I was also kind of impressed to taste orange juice or some sort of fresh oranges in the Orange Chicken. Other than that, it's not the freshest or most flavorful Chinese Food on the block, but it is available later than most.

Two item combo plate: house special chicken, broccoli beef, with egg rolls
    Rudy M.

My girlfriend and I are torn on this place. She loves it most for the egg rolls that come with the food. She got the broccoli beef and house special chicken with jalapeños. Her beef was good. I had the orange chicken and the green bean chicken. The chicken was crispy enough unfortunately but it had a lot of flavor on the orange side. The green beans crunched, not the chicken. The rice and chow mein was fine, but I think next time I'm going to try something else to go with the broccoli beef. I just gotta figure out what that will be.

Five dollar lunch that'll satisfy you and fill you up. Orange chicken is popular, chow mein can be greasy. Long lines around noon and 5-6pm.

One of the highlights is their Thai tea, which is served with a popsicle and seems to be one of their most popular items for good reason. It's fun, unique, and absolutely delicious. I also tried the salmon curry, which was something new for me, and I ended up loving it. The flavors were rich, balanced, and unlike anything I've ordered before. Another unexpected favorite was the wings. I'm usually not a big wings person, but these were surprisingly good--crispy, flavorful, and definitely worth ordering. Kin was one of the only restaurants open until 10 PM. We were seated right away, and somehow the five of us sat in a private room. It was kind of late for me to eat anything really heavy so I just have my usual salad and it was the beef tenderloin salad. They serve it up with a lot of beef and less veggies. The beef itself was a little chewy and in large pieces. I prefer the meat to be cut a little smaller and would like more lettuce and cucumber. I got a little taste of the spicy fried rice, which was really good. Some of us ordered Thai tea and didn't expect what we received, which was the tea with a Thai tea popsicle. What a treat! The Thai tea itself was pretty standard, but that popsicle was like the icing on a cake. The places, modern and clean. Staff is helpful and nice. Food came out in a good time, especially considering there was a large party having a birthday party at the same time. We ordered a number of entrees and 2 appetizers. Everything was pretty good with my standouts being the hand-pulled noodles and the tofu & shiitake mushroom entree. You could tell the hand-pulled noodles were fresh and made by hand. The sauce on it was good but too salty. The tofu & shiitake dish was served in a savory and tasty home/brown sauce. The scallion pancake was good as well, just much thinner than other scallion pancakes. The Chinese broccoli was good, but I thought it was more bitter than usual Chinese broccoli dishes. The fried rice was okay.

The crab fried rice is hands down the best fried rice I've had. The flavor and texture are just on point every time. The xiaolongbao is also really solid. I'd compare it to Din Tai Fung. DTF has more variety, but this feels like a more focused, smaller menu that still delivers on quality. If they ever add chocolate xiaolongbao, it would honestly make this place perfect.

The bonus was that they had a TV showing the NBA Finals when we arrived. Pretty nice touch and in the back of the restaurant so as not to distract everyone. We went with a couple of our favorite dishes to run along and the Chicken Lo Mein was pretty good. Crispy pieces of chicken and soft noodles and veggies to go with it. We chose to get Mongolian Beef and it was absolutely fantastic. Crispy celery, green onions and decent sized pieces of meat in a terrific sauce. I would love to try to replicate that. Apparently the version here come pre-wrapped, but I didn't mind since I was a first timer. The wrapper functions a lot like a tortilla, but much more delicate. I like the mixture of chicken, wood ear mushrooms and cabbage maybe? Textually it's crunchy and I like that in the soft wrapper. The salt & pepper tofu is sautéed with jalapeños which give it a nice kick. It's not your classic version of the this dish because the tofu is cubed into bite sized pieces and tastes a little more peanut-y than salt and pepper-y, but I didn't mind it.
