So. I'd like to preface my review by admitting I rarely, if ever, write Yelp reviews. However, my overall experience warrants the following comments. Firstly, I showed up roughly 16-18 minutes after placing a phone order. Then, I waited over 5 minutes before even being acknowledged. Since, there was only one customer in the restaurant, a simple, "I will be right with you", after we made eye contact would have gone a long way. As I waited patiently, while the female worker finished up with her only other customer, I couldn't help but overhearing their conversation. The customer decided to add Fried Dumplings to her order. The female worker quoted her a price of $11.95. The customer then questioned this price and even pointed to a price of only 10.95 that was listed on the wall Menu. The female worker responded, "oh, we go with paper price. Nearly 10 minutes after entering the restaurant, the female worker turns to me with no smile nor apology for the wait. I gave her my name; she turns to the male worker with my slip. Since I expected my food should have been ready, I told her I'm all set then turned to leave. She convinced me the order was just being completed so I stayed and paid. I should have gone with my gut feeling because this was the worse Chinese food I've ever eaten: the pork fried rice was cold and tasteless, general gao chicken was not fresh and didn't taste like chicken nor general gao chicken I've eaten from any other restaurants, there was no hot mustard instead there were packages of some spicy sauce but the fried dumplings were pretty good though the sauce spilled out because the cap was not placed on tightly. This was my first and definitely my last visit here at China Chef in Randolph read more

Why did I come here? ‍ Absolutely horrible service. The guy is so rude & abrupt. I showed up at 2:55pm and ordered at 3:00pm and there is some lunch special price until 3:00. If I could give no stars I would. I ordered a PUPU platter for two. Sounds simple enough. It included everything from dry jerky like chicken wings, sour egg rolls, grease soaked chicken fingers, old cheese "crab" rangoons, undercooked char siu and the salvageable beef teriyaki. Very small portions. I've noticed over the past few years the amount of food in the combination plates has gotten smaller, and smaller, and smaller. At the same time the prices have gone higher, and higher, and higher. The only reason I go there sometimes is a person can get Lo Mein with their combination plate instead of strictly port fried rice. The General Gau's is good. Chicken wings are tiny and flavorless. Chicken fingers and egg roll are tiny. An average combination plate is just under $10 with tax. Because the portion size is so small it's a rip-off. read more

The hot and sour soup was kind of like soured plum sauce. The pluses? Not many, but the sesame chicken was identifiably chicken and the lo mien was passable (I.E. didn't end up in the garbage like the order from Ming). I like this place. It got my special order right. My food was really good. No MSG. Not too much salt. Kitchen and dining area seem clean and pleasant. Actually, they have two dining areas. One is casual. You order at the counter. The other looks as though it has servers and a bar. We ate in the casual dining area, which is bright and airy. And no annoying TVs were there to disturb our meal. read more

We have ordered take-out from here twice. Both times we have been pleased, however, the most recent time they got our order wrong-they gave us sweet & sour chicken, although we had ordered orange chicken. It wasn't a big deal, because the sweet & sour chicken was actually very good, but it was still annoying. One thing we like about this place is that you can see into the kitchen, and it looks clean. Today was one of those days where I didn't eat since breakfast. I was extremely busy all day. By the time I left work I was absolutely starving. After my long commute home I decided to stop here as it's one of the only low price Chinese restaurants left in the area (that I know of). I didn't feel like paying an arm and a leg for a meal for just 1 person. So I called the food in and I was told that it will take 15 minutes. It ended up taking 30 minutes which was a disappointment for me. I didn't want to go in their cold restaurant and wait 15 more minutes for my food. I was so excited when I got home to finally have a decent meal to eat. I got vegetable fried rice, chicken wings, and Crab Rangoon (my favorite). The rice was okay. The chicken wings weren't good and they weren't nasty...they were eatable I guess. I was excited to finally bite into my Crab Rangoon as I love them in general. THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORST CRAB RANGOON I EVER HAD. I really don't think it can get worst then that. It seemed old, spoiled, sour, tangy, just so gross. I didn't get to enjoy this meal and just threw the whole thing out. I will never go here again. They went down hill all the way. They have a restaurant on the other side but, no one really goes to this restaurant anymore. They had two drunk men at the bar who couldn't walk straight and probably drove home. They now have a lottery machine I believe and they sell scratch tickets. So they definitely know how to get money in their restaurants but, they need to start thinking about their customers again. My parents use to get Chinese food from here a while ago and back then it was okay, It was never great. But, now I wouldn't recommend eating here to my worst enemy. They have a fish tank that been there for years and there's no fish inside of it. The tank is also dirty. If they don't take care of little details like that what made me think they will take care of the little details when preparing my food? Next time I am going to just spend the money and get the other Asian food in the area that goes for $20 and up for dinner. At least the quality is very good with them. Ordered for delivery yesterday: fried rice, chicken wings, General Gao's chicken and some beef and broccoli. Food came faster than expected - always a good thing. And I got extra fortune cookies as requested. Wings were pretty good and were very meaty. General Gao's chicken was over cooked and was not at all spicy or flavorful. Fried rice and beef and broccoli were both oddly tasteless. Adding lots of soy sauce helped a little. I might get the wings again here, but nothing else. There isn't anything on their menu I have found that I don't like. I love Chinese food, but it has to be good Chinese food. So when we moved to Randolph, we needed to find good Chinese food. We started with the closest one, China Chef. We haven't bothered trying any of the others in town. The service is GREAT!!!! A lot of times, we order Chinese food on the fly. So, I'll go in, order the food, and have a beer at the bar. The food is typically ready when the beer bottle is empty, and I can drink a beer pretty quick. When I order, I tend to mix things up, try new things. My wife rarely varies from her usual. I order what I want, and the girl taking the order already knows the 2nd half of the order. So it is always nice to be recognized as a valued regular! The appetizers are always hot and tasty. A must for any Chinese restaurant is a good egg roll. Their's are top notch, crisp and yummy. The chicken fingers are never over cooked and are nice and meaty. Beef Teriyaki, Chicken Chow Mein, General Gau's, all varieties of Lo Mein, Beef or Chicken Broccoli, Beef Mushrooms, all great. So, are there any negatives? One. The boneless spare ribs. When they are good, they are the best, which is about 70% of the time. There are some times that they are too fatty, or over cooked, but that is not the norm. The take-out and dining room are separated. The dining room is nice, all boothes, nice Asian decor, and the bar is a great place to sit, eat, and watch the game on the flat screen. Highly recommended! read more

Ok ... I'm picky about my Chinese food. So believe me when I say that this place is pretty good. The woman who usually takes your order and rings you up is very very nice. She always remembers to add a huge cup of extra duck sauce to my orders. The food is great. This household really loves their chicken wings XTRA XTRA crispy. And that's how they do it every single time ... XTRA XTRA crispy! Their Gyoza is great. You really can't go wrong with this place as far as take out Chinese food goes. The BEST part is they have a bar attached to their restaurant!!!!! REALLY????? Don't need to twist my arm ... Oh by the way there is enough parking spots ... That's always a plus!!!!! Disappointment. I have eaten here for the past 10 years when China Chef was good but not sure what happened. We decided to eat in. We got veggie fried rice which was definitely made a few days ago not fresh at all. I had the crispy salt and pepper chicken also tasted like leftover food - very dry and hard. We also got the schezuan chicken which looked like it should have been a Lean Cuisine meal. Salty and definitely cooked a few days ago. I will not be visiting China Chef again. read more

I had ordered from here tonight for the first time in several years. I had stopped going here because I had come here after a movie with a friend and later had food poisoning. I had returned here with my mother because her coworker had said it was the greatest Chinese food place in Randolph and they were under new management. I ordered crab rangoons and a couple combination plates. The lo Mein wa extremely salty it was barely edible. The crab rangoons were completely in edible I ordered them because they are my favorite Chinese food item just to find out that they were beyond sour and tasted like they had exceeded their expiration/ shelf life date by a month. The chicken and broccoli was dry and had no flavor at all and the duck sauce tasted like plain old apple sauce. No wonder why their food is so inexpensive. My experience that I had had here tonight has definitely confirmed that I will not be ordering from here ever again. read more
