I usually come here for their lunch specials, which start at 11 AM and end at 3 PM. The selection of lunch specials seem a little limited but if you find a dish on their regular menu that you want to try, just ask if they would kindly make it for you. They usually say yes and just tell you that it will be a dollar or two more. The lunch special comes with the soup of the day (which is usually hot and sour soup), fried rice or white rice, and fried wontons. I have also come here on multiple occassions with large parties. And they have very reasonable prix-fix meals that are absolutely affordable and mouthwatering. I love coming here with large parties cause every dish that comes out looks so good and then tastes even better. They conveniently have a lazy-susan on each large table so that it is easier for customers to share the family sized dishes. A must-have? Their peking duck. You have to try it. It is one of the best I have ever had in this area. They prepare it well. And even cut it in front of you. The steam buns are soft and warm. And the sauce is delicious. Tucked away in the corner near the Safeway off of Appian sits a Chinese Restaurant. I noticed it three years ago but had not go in to try it until recently. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the lunch special, they have a list of available dishes. Mine came with chicken and mixed vegetables over fried rice (or white rice if you choose). It also came with a bag of fried won ton skins. The chicken was white meat chicken, and the vegetables were fresh and colorful, cooked al dente. The take out box was PACKED with food and HEAVY to boot. All for a low price of under $6! Can't beat that at the other Chinese restaurants around here that offer lunch specials. read more

So if you have a few bucks and are in the area getting your tires put on at the local Wheel Works stop by for the lunch special...its cheap and hella food. Whether it was ordering takeout for our lazy movie nights or eating in after she picked me up from middle and high school. The food is always really consistent and flavorful. Huge portions that would yield leftovers for several days afterwards. I normally order takeout and it's always the same lady who rings me up no matter what day or time. She's very sweet. When it comes to dining in, the lunch hour specials is where it's at. Better deals and you get soup and fried wontons (or at least you used to, not sure if they still do that). I came in the other night with my mom and boyfriend for a dine-in dinner and we ordered so much food but it was so good. We forced it down and unbuckled our pants. You don't get the soup and fried wontons for dinner but that's okay, we ordered a wonton soup (and YUM) to share. We ordered SO MUCH food but the bill was super reasonable. In fact, I was surprised at how much lower it was than I thought it would be. The special board is always a good way to try new things! We have family parties here in there extra room. its not private but its an extra room where you can do your own thing. they fit i think 3 large round tables. Tried this place when I was hittin' East Bay with family. Good sized place and when I got there it was pretty filled up. After eating here I can see why. Ordered several items to try: the wor wonton soup, honey walnut prawns, double cooked green beans, mongolian beef, salt and peeper spareribs, and gai lan (chinese broccoli). Everything we ordered came pretty quick. The big thing was that the portions were huge for each item and everything tasted great. The wontons tasted fresh made and the slices of chicken were very tender. Everything in general looked and tasted well done. Considering the menu prices, the food here is definitely worth it especially with the portions they give. If I ever hit east bay again, gotta make a return visit. read more

My parents had been raving about this place for months and I finally had a chance to try it. The restaurant is within the Appian 80 shopping plaza and next to Safeway. The facade is a little outdated, but is clearly visible with its large lighted sign on the top of the building. The interior is large and abundant with space and perfect for large parties. China Delights has an extensive menu and caters all the major food groups: meat, vegetables, soups, noodles, and rice. We went ahead and ordered egg rolls (4), fresh vegetables, fried rice, Mongolian beef (spicy), and sweet and sour chicken. After placing our drink and food order, I enjoyed a Tsingtao beer and the food came out in about ten to twelve minutes. The food was piping hot and everything looked delicious. The egg rolls came out first and were nice and crispy and were not overly greasy. The egg rolls were stuffed with fresh and crispy vegetables and were delicious with their sweet sauce. The main entrées followed and the fried rice was mixed with vegetables and shrimp, which gave the rice a great added taste. The Mongolian beef was delicious and had a kick of spice but did not over take the flavor of the plate. The fresh vegetables were very tasty and crunchy and are a great combination with the fried rice. Lastly, the sweet and sour chicken was nicely deep fried and smothered with their sweet sauce. The chicken had a nice and crispy texture and was full of flavor. I was very impressed with China Delights food and service. The food portions are huge (think The Cheese Factory). Furthermore, the food is not greasy and the problem with most Chinese restaurants is the food being overly greasy. However, the food here is not only delicious, but is fresh and has a healthy feel (the vegetables, at least) to it. The food was great. However, the service was bad. It took about 10 minutes in between entrees. We ordered the dinner for two which included hot and sour soup, fried won ton (3), fried prawn (3) Mongolian Beef, Spicy chicken and fried rice. Our fried won ton and prawns did not contain (3) prawns as stated on the menu. We only got two. The soup was served about 10 minutes later. The Mongolian Beef served 10 minutes after that! By the time the second dinner entree came, the first plate was already cold!! The waitress asked if we were done. We told her we were still waiting for the third entree! We couldn't even get a refill on our water or cokes. The restaurant was not very busy, but they seemed under staffed. I was very disappointed with the service. Lunch Special Review: They offer lunch combinations white or friend rice with any stir fry for I believe $7. My boyfriend ordered Mongolian beef and white rice; that was just stir fried green scallions, white onion, dried chilis and beef. It was good though but there wasn't much really in it. This is my first review and tonight's experience drove me to the point of writing one. I was so excited to find China Delights based on the reviews. It was a Saturday night and my sister and I were craving some good wonton soup. Based on the yelp reviews, I decided to try China Delights (and it's right around the corner, a nice plus). I called the restaurant and asked 2 questions: 1) What time do you close?, and 2) Do you make wonton noodle soup or just wonton soup? The lady on the other end answered, "9:30pm" and "yes, we make both". I looked at the clock and saw it was 9:09pm and I replied, "good, I'm on my way". At 9:20pm, we arrived at China Delights (we are literally around the corner). As soon as we walked in the door, this is the conversation I have with the lady at the register: Lady: "Oh, I'm sorry, we're closed". Me: "But it's only 9:20pm and I JUST called you and asked what time you closed." Lady: "I know, but the kitchen is closed and the chef has left for the night. They deep clean on Sunday so they shut down early on Sunday." Me: "It's not Sunday and I JUST called and asked about the wonton soup and told you I was on my way." Lady: "I know, but next time you should come early." Me: "No, next time when someone calls and tells you they are on their way, you should tell them that you are closed so they don't drive down here like an idiot. And how about you change your hours to accurately reflect the nights of the week that you close early?" My sister and I were furious and stormed out. We went down to Hunan Villa, who were more than happy to serve us. I was embarrassed because I'm fairly new to the area and my sister was in town visiting. We just wanted some good wonton after a full day of shopping. My review is based on service alone since there was no food to review. Maybe one day I'll muster back in and change my review, but until then, I'll stick with one star. I've eaten here several times in the past, I use to dine in when I lived in the area. My parents actually live around the corner. I usually order take out. They're food is actually very good. The only reason for the 3 stars is because they are very un-professional with takeout orders on the weekend evening. When you call for a takeout order they seem to be rushing you when your giving the order, which always seems to cause me to call again because I forgot something. Then they tell you a time it will be done usually 15-20 minutes, and your food is never ready on time you are ALWAYS waiting an additional 20-30 minutes in the restaurant for your order... Or so has happened to me more than twice, I go back because its good and its located so close to my moms. Otherwise I wouldn't even bother. If you haven't tried it, go try it. My cousin and I came here the day after a long night of partying looking for some wonton soup to cure a mean hangover. After reading the reviews on Yelp, we decided we would try this place out. It's hidden away in the very back corner of a strip mall in Pinole/Tara Hills. On a Friday afternoon, the restaurant was pretty much empty except for ourselves and the waiters. But there were quite a few customers who came in for take out during our meal. We ordered Wonton soup, Beef Chow Fun (dry), and Salt and pepper ribs. The wonton soup was wonderful! Very flavorful and yet only had thin strips of bok choy and plump juicy wontons. I would definitely come back just for that. The other dishes we ordered were good, but a bit bland. I ended up adding salt to both the noodles and the pork dishes. Their portions are really big! We had enough food left over to eat when we got back from another night of partying that same night! My issue was with the service, they didn't come to check on us once, and our water cups were never refilled. Next time I'm going to follow everyone else's trend and order for pick up. We drove to the restaurant to order take out (no menu available anywhere I looked online). The staff is friendly enough, & the food was ready pretty quickly - reasoning behind the 2 stars. The food itself, though.. Walnut prawns - Pretty good. I've had better, but I would order again in the event I ate here again, but I won't. Chicken w/black bean sauce - bland, tasteless. Gelled sauce that I loathe @ Chinese restaurants. Salty fish & chicken fried rice - Pretty good. Twice cooked pork - Will never know, because we didn't get it. Instead we got a random beef dish, which would've been okay if it had been tasty. It was also bland beyond belief, & the beef was fatty. As mentioned, we didn't eat in, but in observing the dining area while waiting for our meal I'd say it's the furthest thing from cozy or inviting. The white brick walls need paint, & the place overall needs decorations of some sort. Not warm in the least. I won't be returning. read more

I have always enjoyed eating here, especially with my Chinese American friends and colleagues... But, this last visit was not a very good one... I ordered vegetarian egg foo yong, salt and pepper squid , fish fillets in corn sauce,and spicy eggplant with minced pork. First off, they served the egg foo young with this awful tasting brown sauce...I don't recall it being this way. Next, they served the eggplant dish with that same awful brown sauce,with a few morsels of minced pork. I asked the waitress where is the minced meat? And she just smiled and commented it's there somewhere. The squid was puffy and that's about it...bland as ever. The fish dish hardly had corn sauce... it was the most edible of all the dishes. As you can tell, I was very disappointed with our dinner which came to over $60. What happened to the Chef? Is this a new chef? is it because they thought we didn't look Chinese that we would accept subpar food? I used to come here a lot back in high school because the BFF lived so close by. Since she moved so long ago, I didn't have any reason to be in the area and basically forgot about it. Until recently that is. The hubby and I were craving scrambled egg and beef over rice one day and we wanted something different from Willow Garden in Hercules. I did a search on Yelp and Voila.... China Delights!!! The (dinner dish) is ala carte but they give you A LOT.... for less than $8. It comes with carrots and peas but we ask them to hold em' and they have no problem with that. This dish will feed us for dinner and hubby's lunch the next day. Other dishes to try: Salt n Pepper Fish, Salt n Pepper Egg Plant and Honey Walnut Prawns. i've been going here for over 10 years, ever since i was a kid. i used to go with my mom, my brother, and my grandpa. we always felt so welcomed here and they always remembered us. we would eat here twice a month and always order the pork fried rice, the combination chow mein, and other things as well (my grandpa LOVED the wonton soup). almost two years ago, my grandpa unfortunately passed away. it was during COVID times, so there was no dine in, but in his honor, we ordered to-go many times. we live about 30 mins away, and even when we get home, the food is always still fresh. my family and i LOVE China Delights and will continue to get food from here forever. read more

Came here on a lunch break with only about 20 minutes to spare, so I ordered one of the Luncheon Plates. I asked how long, they said 10 minutes. I got my food in 10 minutes so they were true to their word on that. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork with the Fried Rice. The rice was not fried, but had the usual ingredients mixed in. The pork pieces were almost all batter, the pork itself being sooo small you could just taste batter. I paid seven dollars and some change and yeah, it was a decently sized plate but the grease coming out of the sides of the to-go container was quite disturbing. read more

Some of my favs are: honey walnut prawns (perfectly crunchy prawns with sweet and creamy white sauce), fish fillet with black bean sauce (fish is incredibly tender), salt and pepper tofu (great appetizer), Mongolian beef (saucy and just enough spice- may not be spicy enough for others), sesame chicken (very much like sweet and sour but sauce is better), szechuan prawns (again they have mastered the crunch on battered items, sauce is sweet yet tangy) and hot and sour soup (great starter to my meal). The size of plates are verrrry generous and the prices are decent. The waiters are very attentive and nice. The restaurant is not luxurious but the food makes up for it! Also, they have a private room for events. Btw, their lunch specials are a great deal. It's not just because I'm Chinese. I really enjoy eating at this place because it reminds me of going out to dinner with my family. The restaurant is very family oriented, the style of seating and eating. The staff is friendly and prompt when it comes to anything you need. Food is out fast and hot. I've been here many times before when I was young, but I recently moved to the Tara hills and rediscovered this place. It's my go-to place for wonton soup. It is sooooo good, the best wonton soup I've ever had. It's a great price for the amount of soup you get. At one point I was coming in 1-2x a week to get it lol. The other food here is great as well.
