While visiting from out of town, we stumbled upon Lotus in Farmingdale, New York, while looking for a restaurant that offered both Chinese food and sushi. We couldn't have been happier with our choice! The food was outstanding--everything was fresh, flavorful, and prepared above and beyond what you would typically expect from a Chinese restaurant. Every dish was beautifully presented and expertly prepared. Our waiter, Chris, was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. To top it all off, the owner, Michael, came over to greet us personally, which made us feel genuinely welcome. If we're ever back in the area, Lotus will definitely be at the top of our list. This was our first visit to Lotus Garden, and we were really impressed! The restaurant has been beautifully redone with a sleek, modern vibe, a huge bar, and a stunning fish tank that adds a nice touch to the ambiance. We started with the egg drop and wonton soup combo--very tasty, although the wontons were a bit light on dough and had a noticeable sweetness that's a bit different. The egg roll and both the steamed and fried dumplings plus the fried rice was absolutely awesome! For entrees, we had the shrimp with bok choy and the chicken with mixed vegetables--both came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The spare ribs were a little on the dry side, but everything else made up for it. Even with a waiter calling out, the staff handled everything smoothly and made our experience feel seamless. We lucked out with Parking. You usually have to pay but we got a spot right at the restaurant! We sat at the bar, very comfortable. Our bartender/server Mike was a very personable gentleman. Great personality very knowledgeable about the drinks, menu and establishment. The owner was very engaged, he never stopped checking on the his establishments performance. The food was delicious. The staff isn't prepared to handle gluten free orders. I ordered my GF meaL and I reminded my server several times that I have a gluten allergy. When my food was brought out it was brought out with chips that contain gluten and sweet and sour sauce that isn't gluten free! I wasn't given gluten free soy sauce. The entire thing was a disaster. The dining environment and ambiance are excellent. It's delightfully designed and super clean. We were informed if we sat by the bar then we can order happy hour foods and drinks so we did. At first I wasn't sure what to expect but my first thought after taking my first bite was, wow. The fried rice was very flavorful and had a pleasant texture. The Sweet and Sour chicken was the perfect balance as you'd hope and they even added a mix of veggies like peppers and they even added pineapples which was a surprise and actually tastes decent with the chicken. My only minor gripe is for the nearly $19 price after tax I wish they give you a bit more shrimp since I only got about three of them. The long awaited reopening of Lotus Restaurant revealed a beautifully remodeled. There is a large fully stocked bar with two large screen TV as well as a sushi making station where you can view the many offerings. The menu was pretty extensive with a large selection of sushi, traditional Chinese entrees and small plates for sharing. We had Hibachi Steak & Shrimp also the Hibachi Chicken & Shrimp. Both very good as was the Pork fried rice. The Fried Wontons were also a good choice. We did go during the soft opening and they weren't fully staffed yet so the service was a bit slow. Wow... so I had eaten here a long time ago but after hearing that they reopened I decided to stop by again. The restaurant is beautiful inside with a lot more space and friendly staff. I ordered a lunch special of chicken with mixed vegetables in garlic sauce with hot and sour soup and added on an egg roll. The soup was delicious, one of the best I've had in a while and the egg roll was crispy and not greasy. The chicken and vegetables were also very good and I loved the garlic sauce, spicy with a hint of sweetness from hoisin sauce I think. The veggies were a mix of broccoli, carrots, zucchini and mushrooms and I asked for no baby corn and jicama. I definitely will come back! read more

Lotus is a good eat in Chinese food option. Everything is nicely prepared in the American custom of Chinese food. That said, it is definitely on the expensive side and the portions leave something to be desired. That said we did enjoy our meal. The soup dumplings are tasty and correct, except they need to put them in the steamer on a leafy green like cabbage which will stop them from tearing. Putting them on paper does a disservice to the dish in its native design. read more

The service was unbelievable. We had a really friendly server who was attentive and checked in several times. Regarding the food - they have a fully gluten free menu and they take the necessary precautions. Every item delivered was made clear "Gluten Free". Gluten Free selection includes: Egg Drop Soup (delicious and piping!), shrimp dumplings - OMG, and the best chicken satay I've ever had. The main course was amazing - mango chicken, mei fun (thin noodles), the chefs special w/chicken & shrimp, and baby bok choy - excited for leftovers tonight.
