I really enjoyed the food here. I liked the light texture of the shrimp roll dumplings and they had just the right amount of shrimp. The fried taro had a nice crisp and were pretty dense. The crispy beef was delicious. I also really liked the filet mignon, it was very flavorful and tender. The roast pork was great too. I liked the crispy skin on the outside and the dark sauce it came with. The purple gold yolk bun was a good dessert. It was sweet but not too sweet. This restaurant has been a DMV staple for dim sum and Cantonese food. My family has been going here since they were in Rosslyn. This is the first time I've been back in a long time and the food is just how I remembered it. Nothing super fancy or crazy, but very solid. Came here when the place opened. Didn't give us the empty table we requested multiple time, then proceeded to give it to the next couple. That threw away many years of loyalty driving to the OG place in VA. I have not been back in years. Tried the one up in Rio and it was bad. Upon return due to friend's invite, the place is not busy. Food is decent and they serve soft tofu dessert (not as good as Nan Xiang.) The rest of the Dim Sum is decently standard, nothing that excels, but nothing that's really awful. Had dinner here on Saturday for dinner. Dim dum carts that go around during the daytime were not around for the evening. However individual dim sum plates can be ordered on the menu. The rest of the menu was eclectic and diverse, with many traditional dishes like chow fun and lobster Cantonese as well as unique choices like Beef Sauteed W Agrocybe. We had fish filet with vegetables, sizzling tofu casserole and mapo tofu. All entrees were generously portioned and arrived piping hot. Fish was tender and sautéed with ginger and yu choy. The tofu casserole was fried tofu wedges with shiitake mushrooms, black fungus, bean sprouts, yu choy and snow peas in a savory brown sauce. Everything went well together. Been here before for dimsum and dinner and it's been touch and go, but I was really craving crispy pork belly and their fried donut wrapped in rice noodle. Well, the restaurant definitely needs to update their online menu because they don't offer the fried donut wrapped in tice noodle anymore. Anyways, I ended up getting the roast pork (and double checked that it will come with the crispy bits) and the crispy beef lunch combo. The pork belly (roast pork woth crispy skin) was warm and super tasty that I didn't need the hoisin sauce. The lunch combo is HUGE for one person! It came with a soup of your choice (I chose the wonton soup which is made out of pork), the entree, and a sesame ball (which was stuffed woth lotus root). Overall, it was a great meal - I was stuffed and service was great, but really disappointed they didn't have the one thing I was really craving. Came here for a late lunch on Sunday with my family, and we got seated right away. We opted for their dim sum menu. I guess they only have the dim sum carts in the morning which I didn't mind. We ordered the dumplings, shu mai, shrimp rice rolls, steamed and roast pork buns, Singapore noodles, peking duck, and chicken feet. The food took a little bit more time to come out, but I like how we could just keep ordering more food without waiting for carts to come by. Also the food was fresh. I really liked the shrimp rice rolls, shu mai and pork buns. Sooo good. Also, the pineapple bun. Loved how it was not too sweet. I had called China Garden one month ago to reserve 3 tables for lunch on a Sunday. The woman answered the phone told me I could have a corner table since they did not have private rooms. Once I got there I was shown 3 tables but not at a corner. I asked the manager (owner?) that I requested a corner and he answered, "Yes, that's the corner, by the wall" Just ludicrous. Apparently he gave the corner tables away for someone else. Dimsum was so so, nothing great. All in all, it was really bad quality dim sum and food. There was no service, no one came by to refill water, (we ordered so many dishes that wasn't room for water pitcher), no one asked us to order tea. When the bill arrives, they charged us 3 chrysethemum tea for each table at $45. When I mentioned our table didn't get tea, he deducted $20. He counted tea as a head count, we had 30 people. Also charged 18% gratuity on top of tea money. In the past, tea money was considered part of gratuity and there shouldn't be a 18% gratuity at dim sum because there was no service. Today I was craving duck and the duck here is 5/5 stars. Hands down for taste, meat quality and portion. The chow fun - dry- cooked perfectly with tender beef. The fried rice had a nice toasty flavor if the seasoned wok and Chinese sausage made it more delicious. The Szechuan string beans had just the right crunch and salty and spice. Service was quick and friendly. The dining room is roomy with a stage for private events. I will be back again when I come to visit DC area. read more

This is now my go-to dim sum place since the one in Wheaton closed down. I'd say it's pretty consistent in quality and I just love the egg custard buns they have. They also have milk tea that they wheeled around in cute containers like recently, I got a snoopy one. I believe this is the second location if they are part of the one that's in Arlington. I could be wrong and they happen to have the same name. The atmosphere is set up like they do wedding banquets which from other reviews, they do. It's light and ambient and plenty of spaces for big family gatherings. Thus was the case when my bf and I went to it for Thanksgiving dim sum and the place was bustling. We were also here the same time as a wedding event that was happening. Unfortunately, we were able to hear everything due to the lack of sound proof walls and the sound system set up. We ordered a couple dim sums and three entrees to share. Side note, if you want tea here, they charge 1.50 per person. The chrysanthemum tea we got was a bit weak. A7 蠔皇叉燒飽 STEAMED ROAST PORK BUN - 5.50 Each order comes with three buns. The buns were steamed pretty well and we thought it had a good ratio of roast pork and bun. The roast pork was pretty flavorful. C1 原隻大蝦腸 STEAMED SHRIMP RICE CREPE - 6.50 Each order comes with three shrimp crepes cut into halves. The soy sauce they used was well soaked up by the crepes which were thin and slightly chewy. Shrimp was fine. G1 蠔油中芥蘭 CHINESE BROCCOLI WITH OYSTER SAUCE - 15.75 The portions were pretty sizable and the Chinese broccoli was fresh. I thought the oyster sauce was really watery. Either way, this was a good vegetable option if you aren't feeling the string beans or pea shoots. F3 幹炒河粉 (牛) BEEF DRY CHOW FOON - 16.95 Very classic option for dinner if you don't want to venture out. I found this to be pretty bland -- at least it's not too greasy. Lots of wide noodles but not a whole lot of beef. I have had better elsewhere. R11 荔蓉香酥鴨 STUFFED CRISPY DUCK WITH MASHED TARO - 29.75 Each order comes with 12 pieces of duck. This takes a bit to prepare (20-30 minutes) but it was pretty worth it. Each piece of duck was coated with mashed taro and deep fried with a delicate, crispy layer. Each piece is pretty dense/rich from the taro and the fatty skin of the duck. I was not able to eat more than 2-3 pieces myself, so definitely a great sharable if you are eating with a bigger group. It can be a little noise when it's busy, but it still provides a great atmosphere. The Young Chow fried rice is a must order! The roasted pig is also so perfectly done every time. Had a very nice meal here on a Sunday morning. Our party was large - 5 adults and two children - but Dim Sum is great for large parties and the restaurant is ample with plenty of tables for large parties to gather. For our visit, the carts were being used. We got served almost immediately after our party sat down and the first cart had an array of meat items that was a unique experience for me in terms of dim sum. We got a plate of roasted pork and an enormous portion of bok choy of this cart which were both enjoyed by everyone. They pour a sweet soy sauce over the top of the bok choy at service which made it a little bit more than just steamed veg. Later, the same cart came by with other meat varieties including duck which I would have enjoyed trying, but we were full by that point. The steamed items carts came quite frequently, so it was easy to get shumai, etc. The baked item carts seemed to come less frequently. We wanted extra baked pork buns and had difficulty getting them. The staff spoke a lot of chinese, but we had no trouble communicating with them in English enough to address our needs. Several of the staff were very nice, but don't be surprised if you get a rushed/clipped response from some servers. That seems to be a standard at any dim sum place. There is complimentary parking in the pay lot directly across the street from the restaurant. It is well labeled, so you shouldn't miss it. There is also street parking, but that seemed mostly full when we got there. Just remember to take your parking ticket with you to the restaurant to get validated. All in all, we had a very nice experience. The place was full and the vibe was energetic without being overwhelming. I ordered five "tapas" and was only able to eat half. I brought the leftovers to have for lunch tomorrow. Our server was fine, but didn't really check on us once the food was brought out to us. My friend had to flag him down to ask for our tab and boxes. Parking is available in the lot across the street, which says $7 and can be validated. I did not know and we parked in the garage, which is free for the first two hours. The garage on level 2 looked sketchy. Carts are abandoned there and it looked creepy. I went to Dim Sum on a Sunday early afternoon, and my party and I were met with a ton of people crowding in the restaurant entrance. Once you enter, you let the host know how many people are in your party, and they text you once the table is ready. It was actually a rather short wait, no more than 10 minutes. I guess having all those tables inside helps!!! Our experience was pretty good. All the food is delicious, no doubt about that. None of the dishes particularly surprised me or were more amazing than a dim sum restaurant I've been to before except for the juk (rice porridge). Their rice porridge is delicious and salty, and also has some pieces of century egg!! Some of the dishes, like the shu mai, shrimp crepe, did not come very hot. They were kept warm on the carts but didn't taste super fresh. Many of the same carts kept coming around, so after we were there for about 20 minutes, we saw all the options that were being offered at the time. We didn't receive any menus, and we didn't end up ordering anything a la carte. I think the latter two aspects would be the only feedback that bumped it to a 4 rather than 5 star experience, but it was still a fantastic Dim Sum brunch! read more

As a frequenter of dim sum in the north east, I have to say that the food here was delightful. Most quality dim sum places have very similar quality and taste fo their dishes, but the "beef crepe" as the crude English translation, was absolutely superior than anything I've tried. It's a white noodle like texture wrapped in a beef filling and was very substantive but also chewy, unlike other places I've been where the consistency has been a lot less chewy. For that reason, I'd recommend anyone to try. Not sure if it was because we went there at 3pm, but there was no push-cart service, just ordering from the menu. read more

Best dimsum in the area! Usually it's a bit hard to order dimsum because we don't speak the language, but here, the servers are so nice and it's very easy to order what we want. Our favorites include Shumai, Har Gow, shrimp crepe, deep fried pork and sesame balls for dessert. Get the rice wrapped in lotus leaf if you want some rice too. The place is big but always packed on the weekends, so be prepared to wait or come at an off time (especially with a big group). We came Sunday 1pm and waited about 10-15min for two people. It's never been my favorite restaurant because it is too big. We are not that crazy about dim sum because it's very easy to overeat. But if you like dim sum, this is the restaurant you can't miss. I was having a rather awful day and my son and I decided to dine here for the first time (after all these years being in the area)--and I'm so glad we finally did as our late dinner completely cheered me up and turned the entire day (week, really) around. That is what a great dining experience can do...I think we always decided not to come here in the past due to parking--but don't let that stop you! There is off street parking and I believe a parking lot across the street. We happened to be lucky finding a spot close by. So, the restaurant is simply beautiful and provides a very pleasant and welcoming environment. Other guests seemed to be enjoying their meals, always a good sign. The waitstaff was wonderful...so kind and attentive! We were able to order dim sum even late in the evening and all our (many) dishes were delicious and well-presented. We were asked what kind of tea we wanted, which I also appreciated as I do not like jasmine tea (which is oftentimes the default). Our food arrived quickly and was simply delicious, not too salty or bland, and very neatly presented. It was overall a pretty fabulous dinner, which I'm grateful to have been able to enjoy at just the right moment... Folks - three-stars is a bit harsh, isn't it? China Garden has improved substantially since opening (and COVID years). Their wide selection and taste of dim sum dishes are comparable to why they've been famous for decades (back in the days before they moved to Rockville). Pork buns, Bean Curd Roll,Crab Claws, Turnip Cake, Roasted Duck, Turnips and everything tasted as good as ever. Our waiter was super friendly (it wasn't very busy at the time), and we didn't want to wait so we basically told him to bring whatever he recommended. What didn't go wrong? Dinner combinations were not available, duck was sold out. Food for our party arrived one dish at a time over an hour and a half. Some was cold, some was overcooked, lamb was laced with bone fragments, and one of our group became ill and had to leave early. No dish was particularly tasty. After coming during opening weekend, I have not been back due to the poor quality. I decided to give it a second chance and I was massively disappointed. I came on a Sunday afternoon and ordered two orders of chicken feet, two orders of shrimp dumplings, a plate of beef chow fun, and sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves. The indicators of how good the Dim Sum chef and the chef for the regular Cantonese dishes are depend on the shrimp dumpling and beef chow fun respectively. And the chefs at this location are not qualified. The skin of the shrimp dumplings were easily broken when picking it up with chopstick and the skin was thick. The beef chow fun tasted just ok while the beef was not thinly slicked and did not have that classic beef chow fun marinated taste. The sticky rice and chicken were just ok. The total came to $49. For that price, I can go to Hong Kong Pearl in Gaithersburg for much better quality. As this is a Cantonese/Dim sum restaurant that markets itself as more upscale as reflected in the price, the quality was underwhelming. I just don't understand how the China Garden in Tysons is so much better than this location considering how how it's been open now. read more

We ordered more than 10 dim sum dishes off the traditional push carts and shared them amongst 4 people. It was absolutely delicious and worth the long drive over from Washington DC. They open earlier than weekdays at 11am during weekends so you have to come early as they don't accept resa fb aidons but only walk ins. Haven't been here in a while which honestly was kinda on purpose. It's still a solid place for Cantonese food as we came for dinner with a big group. Ordered several dishes to share: triple-delight cold cut platter, roast duck, filet mignon China Garden style, egg tofu w/ mixed mushrooms, fish filet in XO sauce, salty egg yolk lobster, and seafood pan fried noodles. The cold cuts were pretty good; pig knuckle, beef tendon, and jellyfish were all prepared well. There were a few dishes that were pretty bland and flavorless: egg tofu and pan fried noodles. The egg tofu texture was cool, kinda like eating custard. But the sauce really let this dish down; needed soy or oyster sauce. Same for the noodles, which is usually one of my favorite dishes; too bland. Should have asked for red vinegar to wake it up. The lobster, duck, and filet were the stars; all three were very flavorful and I'd order again. This place has been around for about 5 years now and you'd think its older. Could really use some cleaning and it just feels like its been neglected with the expansion of some of their other Han Spot locations. You can definitely tell the chef is different, but they probably get most of their business via dim sum and banquets at this place. Luckily, my party didn't have to wait long, but we were seated literally at the last table of the restaurant, which happened to be the table immediately by the entrance. I call it the "unwanted table" because who would want to eat while being surrounded by a crowd of people like zoo animals? There were even several times when people were talking over our table and bumping my chair, which was annoying. Given how quickly the queue grew, I accepted it. Someone had to sit there... Food: Plates generally looked presentable and tasted flavorful. Some weren't as hot. It took a considerably long time for the carts to roll out of the kitchen. For most of the time, there were only like 2-3 carts being pushed. The ones that did make it to our table did not have the standard items like the shrimp dumpling, xiu mai, chive dumplings, or fried shrimp ball with crab claw. So we had to wait even longer and flag the waiter to request the additional items. Service: Absolutely abysmal service. It was clear they were severely understaffed as we got no service whatsoever except for the busboy, who did an amazing job at clearing our table. But the waiters made no effort to refill waters and hot teas, or give us any additional silverware or napkins. The waiter even ignored me by giving me the hand when I tried to get his attention. I've been to China Garden several times and have consistently received subpar service. But this time, there was no service at all. We previously went to the other location owned by the same owner, China Palace, for dim sum. Compared to that location I think this restaurant has much more open seating and it helps make it easy for the carts to move around. The dining area is open for the most part but you can see the dividers that separate the area into different sections for private events, which means there's no need to do any buyouts if you want to host an event. The main dining area has a beautiful chandelier and a stage area as well. It gets very busy so I recommend going early to get a table! There is a parking lot across the street that you can get a validated ticket for from the restaurant. I'm actually planning a wedding reception here and the manager has been very helpful with the planning and menu selection. I'll be sure to update this review once I actually have the reception for anyone who might consider this venue location! read more

Just attended AALead's (look them up!) Annual Dinner and had a wedding reception-styled 10-course dinner! The service was great and the restaurant was accommodating in hosting a large event. They even have a stage and area to dance. The star dish was not the surf side of the twin lobsters, but the turf side of the Filet Mignon (China Garden Style) - flavors were nice and a tad sweet but not overpowering, I can't pinpoint the flavor but reminds me of a bit of maybe the Iron Age steak (Korean bbq)? Overall the food was pretty solid, maybe a 4 with some misses with the flavor or a bit overcooked but it's also a bit expected for such a large event. They have their own surface parking lot across the street which they validate, not the garage parking tho that's free for 2 hours. I have to upgrade my rating, almost want to give them a 5 because any friend sponsors of AALead and giving back to the community deserves some praise, but I'll give them a one star upgrade to a solid 4! read more
