Over the last few months, my husband and I have finally perfected our China Gourmet experience. I don't frequently crave this type of food but sometimes, you just need some Chinese-American food. First of all, we get takeout. We live so close and service in the restaurant isn't the greatest so it's just safer to get takeout. Also, we've stopped experimenting with the dishes we try. We each have the one dish we love and we just order that and are never disappointed. For myself, I get the Broccoli & Garlic Sauce and add tofu to it. For my husband, he gets the Pork with Vegetables and a Wonton Soup. Prices are decent and I do think the food is made freshly; at least the dishes we order. read more

I was not impressed with China Gourmet. We are new to the area, so I used Yelp to find a Chinese restaurant. I placed my order over the phone and was told it would be 15 minutes until my food would be ready. I left my house in a reasonable amount of time to meet the 15 minute time frame. I walked in with two gentlemen that had obviously never been there either because they asked me if this was the Chinese food place. When we entered we all waited for a minute or two at the front counter. The two guys started yelling "hello" and no one came out. I looked around the corner to the right and there were two guys having lunch. I asked them if anyone was working. They laughed and said, "yes, but we haven't seen her in a while." The two guy finally left after 3-4 minutes and were not happy. When the woman who was working the desk finally came out she asked me which order i had (pretty sure I was the only one). She had no idea what my order was and asked what my side dish was. I told her...AGAIN. She then told me that they had to heat up the brown rice from yesterday because they hadn't made any today....Wow! When I got home and actually ate the meal I will say that the egg drop soup was not bad. The garlic chicken, however, seemed to be warmed up just like the rice. This has been my go-to place for Chinese take-out for quite some time now. I've never been disappointed once.. The food is always consistent and flavorful, not to mention reasonably priced (HUGE portions,too!). Good customer service.. Awesome online ordering system.. Quick delivery. The only negative I'd have to say about this place is that there are certain times that they do not serve sushi. There have been at least two or three instances (usually in the afternoon) where I was told that the sushi chef was not there... or they were training other people.. read more

Out of all the places in the area for Chinese we always pick China Gourmet. Why? Well, let me count thy ways! 1. Staff is always really friendly and awesome. The girl who works at the counter is a real sweetheart and very cute to boot! 2. The maki combo for $12.95 comes with spicy tuna roll, California roll, and eel avacado roll.... 8 pieces of each!!! They don't dress it up fancy like some places do, but I could care less at the quality and quantity for that price. 3. Huge menu, both with regards to the sushi and the food. The food isn't the best I've ever had, but it's consistently good and fairly priced. Authentic? Eh.. great American-Chinese style comfort food? Yes. (although they don't have duck :( ) 4. We just moved to the area yesterday and ordered from them last night. My girlfriend and I were at CVS and asked the cashier which Chinese restaurant she prefers and she selected China Gourmet. The food here is pretty good! They said they would deliver in 45 minutes and they were on time. I liked my sesame chicken and my girlfriend liked her chicken broccoli. We used to eat at Best Taste in North Providence but now we found our new Chinese spot. read more

Welp, not the most successful Chinese food purchase. I placed an online order to be delivered to my teenage son and his friends at 5:04pm. I was away for the evening or I would have picked it up as this restaurant is not far from us. He and his very hungry friends called me at 6:45 to see if I had placed the order. I was shocked as I thought the food would have arrived already. I checked my bank account to make sure that the purchase had been made and when I confirmed that the charge had hit my account, I called...17 times...before I finally got through. It had now been 2 hours since I placed the order. They assured me that the food was on its way. Just heard from my son, it is now 7:22pm, it had just arrived. My advice - pick it up unless you don't plan on eating for a few hours. read more

Possibly the best Chinese I've had in a really long time. It's fresh, authentic, always super hot so it's made to order which means it's not sitting around like most places. The rice actually has veggies in it that you can see and taste. I hate going to places that don't have anything in the rice except for the meat. The pork fried rice is tasty and the meat seasoned. And I kid you not they have the best crab Rangoon. The inside is favor full, soft, creamy and the outside a crunch of perfection. You can never go wrong with thermite sushi either. Everything is great from their chicken fingers to spare ribs, from wonton soup with light hearty broth to chicken lo mein. Next time I'll be trying all veggie lo mein as I'm sure the noddles and sauce will be a perfect combo as it is with the chicken. Din in or delivery. I went here with my grandma and sisters and I have to say, I loved the food! The fried rice was great and I loved all of the combos. They have a big menu, so it is hard to choose just one thing to eat. They have huge portions too, so be warned if you do order the combos! I also like how you can switch out the egg roll side with wonton soup, for a little added flexibility. I loved their wonton soup and had 2 bowls of it! And they let you tone down how spicy you want your meal, so do not be afraid to order a spicy combo! Great place to eat! read more

This is by far the best Chinese takeout I have had in RI. The quality is on par with chain Chinese food like P.F. Chang's, and I mean that as a compliment. I mean, none of this is like real traditional Chinese food, but it is what it is, and these guys do a good job. Plus it is half the price of P.F. Chang's and only slightly higher than other local places. Dumpling are great and the chicken dishes use a lot of white meat. The veggie dishes are a real treat. The broccoli is actually pretty fresh. Nothing is too fried or too sweet. And they deliver all the way Barrington. read more

I'm from out of town and we stopped in and had a great experience. We got spicy sushi plate, which was delicious and perfect for 2 people. Then the entrees were even better. The chicken is absolutely delicious and great service. Would recommend for a nice quiet meal with good tasty food! read more

When I moved to the area, everyone mentioned going to Lee's Chinese Restaurant, but after trying both China Gourmet & Lee's, China Gourmet was the clear favorite. Their boneless spare ribs are mouth watering and I always order that in combination with their house chicken wings, beef teriyaki and fried rice. Even the beef teriyaki is better than most Chinese places in the area. It costs a couple dollars more than average places, but its worth paying the difference for quality Chinese food. read more

I recently posted a review for this restaurant in error. I have since deleted that post. Originally I posted saying I received mediocre food and bad service but I assure you it was NOT from this restaurant. I have not dined at or received food from this restaurant. I apologize greatly for the mistake. I commend the owner for reaching out to me expressing his apologies for what he thought his establishment provided and I'm glad he did or I may not have realized I had posted to the wrong restaurant. Again I sincerely apologize for my mistake. As a former food service manager I understand sometimes it's upsetting to get a bad review and I assure him and his crew this is completely my fault. I will however go out of my way to visit your establishment anonymously in the near future and write a fair review. Since moving to Riverside this has become a go to place for my roommate and I. Their build your own combo is perfect. You get rice and egg roll along with 3 apps. I love their Thai Style wings, nice and spicy and they will make them well done to satisfy my roommates liking. We also get the edamame to add to the meal, simple but good. Sometime they are a bit short staffed on the phone and I have been hung up on or waited for over 5 minutes but its a local place and it happens. The food keeps us going back. read more

First time I went here for dinner, sushi was descent and Chinese food approached my fond childhood memories of the excellent Chinese food I used to get in NYC Chinatown. The service is always very friendly and accommodating, especially if you have kids (they love the fish tank). Recently, however, I got some take out that was pretty poor quality. The sesame chicken had a lot of fat and the Thai noddles had way to much original seasoning that had failed to blend in the noodles. Ordered take-out and had a smorgasbord of things, all were delicious!! Egg roll was crispy, a little greasy but tasty. Roast Pork Mei Fun had good flavor all the way through with lots of pork and veggies unlike some places that are basically all noodles. Chicken and Broccoli had a lot of gravy which was tasty, a little greasy like the egg roll, but still good, although I did get a small bone in a piece of the chicken. I didn't need to add any soy sauce to anything, all were seasoned perfectly. My absolute favorite was the sczechuan dumplings.... AMAZING!!! I could eat a giant bowl of them every day! What every Chinese restaurant should be. Good food, good customer service. Very happy with them. Even on the seldom occasion they might accidently mess up a delivery order, they always fix it quick! They actually care about their customers and are always very nice. We've ordered from China Gourmet a bunch of times. I can't think of one thing to complain about. Oh wait.... one thing. We did get stale fortune cookies a couple of times. However they made up for it the next time with the freshest fortune cookies I've ever had in my life. So it all seems to balance out. This was the best restaurant I've been to in all 19 years of my life. The food was amazing and it came out hot. Service was quick, we got our dumplings and as soon as we finished those, our meals were in front of us. If you want to be amazed by great service, come here. This used to be my favorite, but it has changed. Over the last 6 months the quality has dropped & their prices have increased. They do not follow specific requests. I love Gen Tso's chicken but they make it too spicy for me. When I request that they only use a little spice, I get everything but that. It's either extra spicy & inedible or they make it with no spice. I also request that they not use MSG where possible. Most of their items have MSG, but they used to not add it where they could. Either they are preparing everything ahead of time or just ignoring my requests. We have also noticed changes to almost everything we've ordered. The egg rolls are soggy, there is not as much shrimp as there used to be in the shrimp dishes, even the simple option of brown instead of white rice is no longer offered. read more

I'm on a quest to find great fried tofu (general tso's). This isn't it. Sauce is way too sweet and the chunks of tofu are too big resulting in a soft outside and squishy inside. That being said, my kids and wife liked it as well as the crab Rangoon. read more

Not my favorite place but it's on my way home and I get cravings in the car... General Tso's Chicken is typically good here but the quality of the chicken is not up to par. The decor is that of a 1970 Chinese restaurant, very old booths with some larger tables in the middle of the dinning room. They do have a bar but not a place to hang out and meet people, unless you start drinking at 7am... I would have to say it's one step above a takeout only joint. read more

We used to order from here at least once a week. The past few times we've ordered from here - we've received a call from the delivery driver that they can't find our building (we live 2 minutes away) or they just don't show up at all. I'm not sure if this place is under new management, but when we've called to complain they're dismissive then just cancel our order. Absolutely will never order from there again. read more

This is def the best fast food type chinese fair that delivers in the area. Love the gen tsao's. Also, their rice is very flavorful. Sweet & sour chicken are round balls which look strange- only seen them not tried them. Chicken fingers are pretty good. Chicken & broccoli is good too but if u like gen tsao's then u gotta try this place. All white meat, not too spicy, Yumm.
