I love having a sushi place close to my house. They deliver yeah! The rest of their menu is classic Chinese and good.

Save your money. I had heard great reviews for this place so i finally decided to try it. As soon as i walked in the door i wanted to turn right around and leave. The place is filthy so dirty. I decided not to judge a book by its cover so i stayed again i heard great reviews. I ordered my food it was gross, the general tso was terrible tasted like orange chicken. The sweet and sour chicken tasted like its been sitting for days and cooked in dirty grease just not good. I struggled with how I should rate China Gourmet - the food is outstanding and staff is very friendly and attentive, however the issue is with take out. We don't live in within the delivery area so when we take out, we pick up. Here's the problem, they pack toe order in Styrofoam containers and put under the heat lamp. This causes the containers to bow and by the time we get the order home, the sauce has leaked everywhere. The first couple of times it happened we thought the order had shifted in transport. The last two times, however, we noticed the bowing of the container and called the restaurant. The gentleman we spoke with offered to deliver us a new order, even though we are not in their deliver area. The also offered to refund our money. (The refund took over a week as the manager claimed there was a issue with the credit card machine, but never called to explain the delay.) The person we spoke with (I believe his name was Josh) when we called assured us in the future they would not put the orders under the heat lamp and he would make sure they put cardboard between the meals to make the order more secure. The next time we ordered, Josh was a man of his word and even asked my husband to call when he got the order home to let us know how it worked out. The order was perfect! Sadly, we ordered takeout this past week and the meals arrived home and bowed. No cardboard in between again. We called and spoke with someone at the restaurant who quickly offered to make a new meals -when I explained this had happened before he apologized again and I told him we lived outside the delivery area. He said we were welcome to come in and pick the order up but by now it was 6:00. we were hungry and it would take 30 minutes round trip for the new meals. He did offer to credit us for the order, which again, we appreciate. The biggest complaint I have is we love the food but if we can't get the order home in a condition that is expected, sadly we won't order from here anymore. It would be wonderful if more care would be put in to packing of the orders so we can continue to order from here. read more

The food here is really great! The crab rangoons are delicious! I am also a huge fan of the hot & sour soup. They are always really nice and helpful. It took me trying the other Chinese restaurant in this neighborhood to realize how good this place really is. I'd recommend it to anyone!! read more

I hope China Gourmet reads these. Here's the thing, the food is delicious! The meats are always good cuts, the vegetables are fresh and crisp and the flavor is spot on. That being said, an hour and forty five minutes for delivery at lunch is UNACCEPTABLE! An hour for pick up for dinner is also Horrible! There are some really good dishes here,... and some that are just dreadful! I went there with a friend from out of town and we both tried for the first time something called Thai style cho fun noodles with shrimp. All I can say is yuk. There was nothing Thai style about it except for the rice noodles. It had an overly pungent and gritty yellow curry with too much ground chili. It was very salty and I only ate it to be polite with my company. As it turns out - she didn't like this dish at all either! "Thai" curries usually have some sweetness to them - not this stuff! When asked by the waitstaff towards the end if everything was ok - we were honest, and said we rather regretted ordering this dish. There was not much sympathy on their part, and they made no gesture to make up for our dissatisfaction. Have been going there since I moved to Riverside 9 years ago. WAS always good but the last three times were awful. The first two bad times were via take out. The first time we got the food COLD. The second time they screwed up all the orders. The third time we went to the restaurant, what a mistake that was. Wait for 5 mins. to be seated (the place was empty). Then the waitress did not greet us, she walked up to the table and said "what do you want"...barley got the words out and she was off. When the food did come my rice had been in the fridge. You could tell because it was in a square lump and stone cold. The chicken was drier than sand and so tough I had to use a steak knife to cut it. My husband's meal arrive incomplete, we had to ask for his white rice. The owner himself brought it to the table full of I am sorry holding a sneezing baby. (the baby had been sitting at the bar with the mother? and the bartender before dad decided to walk it around with him while he delivered food not only to our table but to the couple at the next table). So if you like cold, overcooked food and poor service than I would recommend eating here but if you dont than go elsewhere. read more

I wish I was able to give stars for food and different stars for service. If I was rating the food alone I would give a perfect 5. The food is great, haven't found a single dish I don't like. But the service was so bad and the server (red haired woman, don't remember her name) was so rude that it brought my stay from a 5 to 2. You should really consider hiring new help before you lose more customers. I can go elsewhere for good Chinese food and not be criticized for the tip I left. (Ever consider that you didn't deserve more??) She talked about it not 2 feet away from where I was sitting. I used grubhub to order from here because it had some great reviews. To my disappointment the service isn't so great. I ordered 2 mei funs, California roll & kani. Their was no option for spicy mayo so after I ordered online I called just to add it to my order. The person who answered was rude and kept saying they had to charge me for it next time which I didn't care I would have paid if the option offered it online. Anywho, they gave me a 45 min wait, so I waited for it to come. The driver called me about 45 min from when I ordered to tell me he was outside- he was actually like 1 block away with the wrong street number address ( how this happen I couldn't tell you because the app had my correct address). It took him maybe 1 minute to get to the right address and he didn't even come out his car. It was like a drive by delivery. So of course when I settled in I open our order and NO SPICY MAYO! I called back because at this point I'm annoyed. The guy on the phone tells me that I have to wait because they have other orders and I wasn't charged for it--- like hello I'll pay the 50 cent but why are you saying the same thing you said an hour ago and offered to give it to me. Bad experience won't be ordering again. Food was not that good to have to deal with aggravation. read more

We've lived in the neighborhood since the mid 1980s. We've been coming here sporadically since then - even before the current incarnation (going back to its days as "The Rickshaw Inn"). Couple of major issues. First: the food itself appeared nothing more then fast-food or mall kiosk grade - served in a free-standing restaurant. The sweet and sour soup was a disappointment, The boneless ribs were,....well, we don't know what the heck we were eating. The few leftovers that we took home were sadly trashed in our garage garbage cans. Second: the service. It wasn't bad. A better choice of words - the service was extremely weird. Really weird. First, the waitress took our orders while she was standing at her computer input/order station. So, we had to "yell" our orders to her from a distance of about 12 feet. We don't know if they served hot tea and bread before the regular order came out - made no difference as we were not offered either and given none. Regarding our orders: we ordered salads, soups, and then combination plates. Nothing was staggered. All the food came out pretty quickly and within seconds of each other. Within about 5-6 minutes of ordering, our salads, soups, and regular plates were placed/dropped in front of us - we were getting indigestion looking at everything before we even ate it. Not good. A massive problem was with the timing and staging of our orders. We could possibly see a problem if either they were short staffed or incredibly busy. It appeared that only about 7-8 tables out of maybe 25-30 were filled, so, this should not have been an issue. We know how extremely hard it is to own any small business (especially here in the state!) and we love to leave wonderful and uplifting reviews, but, it was going to be an extremely difficult task after the suspect visit and meal we had. China Gourmet is easily the dirtiest restaurant I have ever been in. It was so dirty, I actually took a picture and sent it to a friend. I would have left immediately if I wasn't with coworkers who wanted to stay. The food wasn't very good either. I'm a big fan of the sushi at China Gourmet. I also enjoy the General Tso's chef special. I've never had an issue with delivery or take out. About the only negative is the decor, which definitely has a stuck in the 80's feel. It's kind of messy around the counter (not dirty, just cluttered) and the rug is old. Sometimes they feel understaffed, like one guy is taking orders on the phone, being the waiter, etc. But because I don't eat in there much it really doesn't affect me. A friend of mine and I ate here a while ago and I was absolutely horrified with my experience. The food was great but our waitress, Jen (i shudder at the thought) was a nightmare. Almost every response we got out of her was a sarcastic remark. I felt very uncomfortable and slightly offended that this woman was able to speak to us like that. She seemed to be one of the only staff members out front besides a few other people we saw walk in and out of the kitchen. The worst part? We heard people from the kitchen ringing the bell for what I assume was OUR food and the waitress, Jen just sat at the bar looking down at her phone as the bell went off... Absolutely awful. We did NOT tip at all, I refuse to tip someone for sitting on their behind when they have a job to do. She came to our table maybe once and seems to be unable to control her mouth. I do not understand how anyone would let her work with customers. Almost all of my friends come here often and they all say they avoid dining in when Jen is there, because she's very rude and dull. I will probably never eat here again as the waitress is awful and the interior is dirty!! read more
