If you live on the coast and are craving Chinese food, I recommend taking the extra half an hour and driving over the hill to San Mateo. I've been here a few times now because I'm apparently a slow learner. My meals have run the gauntlet of too salty to too bland to even giving me food poisoning. Oftentimes, I'll see the employees out in the back as I'm driving towards the parking lots smoking on their break, and I know that it's their free time, but the optics are bad. I am not sure what change was made, but this place has changed for the worse! The Hot and Sour Soup is now really salty and the overall taste is not just the white pepper, which gives it heat, but black pepper, which is overwhelming along with the salt. They don't use fresh minced garlic, but instead pre-purchased minced garlic in heavy oil, which does not taste as good as fresh diced garlic. All dishes I ordered tasted almost the same with heavy oil and red pepper flakes. There is nothing delicate or layered in the flavors like more authentic Chinese food. To top it off, my husband found a 1/2" piece of clear, broken plastic in his food. I am thankful it was not glass. I see few people dining in the restaurant, which has become run down in dingy, and the hostess/waitress is not gracious or kind. When I walked in the door I was asked "To go?". This is not a one-time greeting, but every time I walk in, even when I intend on eating there. I know things are not easy in the restaurant business, but I feel that restaurants should offer tasty food, pleasant service, and something positive that sets them apart, but I am now finding none of these here. What a shame this establishment has lost perspective on what customers deserve. After a tip, yes, I tip on take out, the three mains (no seafood or any of the more expensive ingredients), large soup, and appetizer were over eighty dollars, so they don't make up for it on value either. read more

I used to like this place. Owner/employees not very nice. I also got served the wrong dish and still got charged for it. I was with a co-worker and he plugged his laptop in at the table. We were then told rudely that we cannot be plugged into power in their restaurant. I asked why, and they said "just a policy". I mean who doesn't allow phones or laptops to be plugged in.. Good Chinese restaurant in Halfmoon Bay! We had a chance to try this place while searching for a Chinese resto within HMB. The place has a few tables and there were 3 tables occupied. They were busy with take out orders but were quick with packing them. We were greeted nicely by a lady and the very friendly guy with a great sense of humor. Ordered the Wor Wonton soup, cream cheese wontons, pork and shrimp dumplings, shrimps in lobster sauce, mango chicken and jasmine rice. My partner said that the shrimps in lobster sauce was excellent as well as the pork and shrimp dumplings. The wor wonton soup needed a little bit more flavor and the wontons in the soup was on the chewy side. My 3yo and I really loved the mango chicken, not too much the mango but the chicken tasted really good. Definitely a great place to try if you're in HMB and wanted Chinese food. I have lived in Half Moon Bay for a long time but for some reason never tried this place, so figured lunch would be a good place to start. The hot and sour soup that you start with was really good. The lunch menu comes with soup and salad, the salad was 3 small pieces of lettuce, bummer. The mongolian beef I ordered was pretty good but the lunch portion was very small. Food is just okay. As others have stated the older woman is rude to the customers. It's that way almost every time I've been there. I usually just ignore her rudeness and eat. The last time I went in she squawked at me about my order not being large enough to use my credit card but it was just above THEIR posted minimum. Not going back. Let's be honest. This is not a location for an anniversary dinner or a hot date. This is just good value food. It is as old school as you can get; you have to ask for chopsticks and you can painlessly eat their hot sauce by the spoonful. But they are quick and the lunch menu is a full meal for the price of a sandwich elsewhere in town. The staff are friendly if not polished and the service is about as quick as you can get. I would NOT recommend anyone to dine in because the service was terrible. The food is okay and the male stuff and the chef is nice. The lady there is terrible. My friend and myself had dinner in China house and ordered three dishes: Kungpo chicken, vegetable and Mapo toufu. My friend is seriously allergic to seafood so we asked the lady that please don't put any seafood related sauce in the dishes but only salt and soy sauce. She didn't care at all and didn't ask the chef for us. Then we asked the chef directly, the chef was kind and didn't put oyster sauce for us. During the waiting time, the male stuff told the lady again we didn't want any oyster sauce and the lady said 'whatever'. At the end, after we paid the tips (for the kind chef and the male stuff), the lady came up and said to us : "thank you but you are not welcome next time because you have too many requests, we cannot do it".
