On a Saturday evening, I stopped by China Inn and ordered chicken and broccoli. The young lady at the register told the man sitting in the back at a table to come prepare my food. He came to the cooking area and grabbed a handful of broccoli WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS! I IMMEDIATELEY stopped him and requested that he wash his hands. He didn't seem too pleased with my request. I also told him that I did not want the broccoli he had touched. He washed his hands, got me broccoli from a different container and prepared my dish. When I arrived home, got settled and relaxed, I opened the bag that my food was placed in...NO RICE!! I called the restaurant, spoke with the cashier who stated that I could stop by at my convenience to get the rice. I was already settled in at home and was not going back out that evening. She stated that they were closed on Sunday and that I could stop by on Monday, to get the rice! What am I going to do with ONLY a bowl of RICE?? I had already eaten some of the riceless chicken and broccoli and saved the rest for my Sunday lunch. Well... as I am eating my riceless chicken and broccoli for lunch - GUESS WHAT? I FOUND A NICE, LONG STRAND OF BLACK HAIR in my food!!!!!! I WAS DONE! I guess since I didn't get rice, the hair was a substitute. Needless to say, I WILL NOT be going to get the rice that was omitted from my meal. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I WILL NOT choose to order food from China Inn in Pittsboro EVER AGAIN - IN LIFE!! STICK A FORK IN ME - 'CAUSE I AM DONE!!! I wish I could have given a NEGATIVE ZERO for the rating. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I called in and ordered Chicken Chow Mein and Shrimp Chow Mein, but before calling I googled what Chow Mein was again to be sure I knew what I was getting, "a popular noodle dish", and what I received was a wet bowl of unseasoned veggies and meat with white rice on the side. After calling back thinking I had gotten the wrong order the lady tells me that Chow Mein is not noodles and I was looking for Chow Mein Fun. After looking it back up I learned that Chow Mein is in fact wheat noodles and Chow Mein Fun is rice noodles. So I go back in and request a refund because not only is the food not what I was expecting but it was also gross! She rudely tells me google is not reliable and refuses the refund. There were no pictures online and Chow Mein is widely known as a noodle dish. I will never order from here again and I hope the $40 I spent in there was worth losing 2 customers. read more

I used to love this place! Now, Will never eat here again. I have a peanut allergy. I always order the same thing- pork or chicken lo mein. I ate half of it and and immediately started reacting to the peanuts. Ended up having to use two epipens. Scary crap! I called, not to ask for money back or anything like that but to tell them to start cleaning their wok bowls better or quit mixing peanut dishes with regular ones. Eek! Methinks not...truer words were never uttered by Yelp. China Inn is the sole Chinese place I have found in Pittsboro and it leaves much to be desired. I tried the chicken and broccoli and my boyfriend tried the general tso's chicken. Mine was not all bad...the chicken was a little mushy but overall decent with a good amount of veg. I actually quite enjoyed the friend rice (two stars for that). The general tso's not so much. Fried chicken at Chinese restaurants is always hit and miss, we missed completely here. It was soggy and unappealing. The egg rolls were also super tiny and in spring roll wrappers. I love Chinese Food Sunday, but its on haitus until we find a better Chinese place. read more

Okay, so I actually double checked the address for this restaurant because I find it hard to believe that I ate at the same restaurant as the last two reviewers. Maybe something has changed since November, 2015 but our experience was vastly different than theirs. First of all, I hate giving out a one star review but the food was damn close to inedible and, in this case, it is earned. First of all, we love Chinese comfort food and have a fairly boring, standard order: fried dumplings, combo lo mein, combo fried rice. Well, being new to Pittsboro we gave this place a try (in my experience, some of the best Chinese food can be found in these strip mall restaurants). We placed our normal order and looked forward to munching on the food as we unpacked in our new house. Well, no go. The dumplings we simply gross, the fried rice didn't taste as bad as the rest (low compliment, I know) and the lo mein was a no go. We ended up throwing out over half of the food because we just couldn't eat it. I hope that we simply had a bad experience with this restaurant but it was bad enough that we won't be back. read more

This place has been more misses than hits lately. Sadly, its the only Asian choice in this town. Food lacks flavor, even the so called spicy dishes. Lately we have tried the orange beef which may have been shoe leather. We have tried many of the tofu dishes but they refused to make Kung pao tofu as it's not on the menu. Just a greasy not so good Chinese joint. Try a few things but don't have high expectations, and don't count on your order being ready in 15 minutes either. More like 30-40. China Inn is the only Chinese restaurant in Pittsboro. We started to visit them since we first moved here ten years ago. It's a family owned restaurant. The quality of their food is above average considered it's a fast food restaurant. With the generous portion of the food, inexpensive price, friendly and efficient service, I think they deserve four stars. My husband likes their egg roll, shredded pork with Peking sauce. I like their hot and source soup, beef with broccoli and seafood delight. They are a hard working family we'd like to support in Pittsboro. They do seem to have a well established customers base around here. If we are craving for authentic Chinese food, we certainly can find a few in Chapel Hill, Durham, Cary, Apex or Raleigh. But if we are looking for comfort Chinese food right around the corner in Pittsboro downtown, China Inn is our first choice. read more

Hit or miss, so watch what you order. Very little authentic Chinese cuisine to be found here, but they do justice to American favorites like beef and broccoli. Some selections are oversauced and underspiced, so tell them how you like it when you order. This place could be better, though it's not terrible. If you are like me then you are sick and tired of all these Chinese food places filling their sesame chicken with juicy white meat. Luckily I found China Inn where most of their sesame chicken is just batter and sauce. On the few unfortunate occasions that I found a piece with meat in it, I was relieved to find meat that more closely resembled dark rat meat than chicken. Great job China Inn on the meatless sesame chicken! I bet most places never thought to try something so innovative. Maybe soon you can open a Peter Pan themed restaurant where all the food is imaginary. I've never gotten a bad meal from there. I especially like the Hot & Sour Soup. It's spicy, but it's so good, you can't stop eating it. And the Teriyaki Chicken is the best I've had in 5 states. My favorite meal is the House Special Egg Foo Young. It has chicken, shrimp and pork in it. Their "gravy" is a sweet ginger based (I think) sauce. It's great. read more

Five Stars from me is hard to earn, but, for Chinese takeout, China Inn really deserves the rating. We are new to the area, and China Inn was the second local Chinese restaurant we tried, after Panda Garden several weeks ago. China Inn was 2 stars better than Panda Garden. The fried dumplings were great at both places, but quite different--the wrapper was thinner at Panda Garden, which I liked, but the dumpling at China Inn was closer to home made, and it had more filling. The lo-mein at China Inn was far superior to Panda Garden--it was "saucier," and had lots more flavor. One of my favorites is egg foo young, which we didn't try at Panda Garden. The egg foo young at China Inn is as good as it gets, and the fried rice that came with it was better than the fried rice elsewhere--it wasn't just rice with a bit of soy sauce on it; it had veggies I could see, and chunks of pork. I'm glad we found China Inn, as it is closer to home, and, with the exception of a tie on dumplings, the food we've tried at China Inn is overall superior to Panda Garden. read more

Pretty darned good. They have all of the standard "Americanized" favorites and they are all pretty good to cure that Chinese food craving we all get from time to time. One thing that impresses me is soups are made to order. I love hot and sour soup and it's great here. Impressed when they said 15 minutes until I picked up the order. Was more like microwaved leftovers. I ordered 3 different entrees and they went from mush to raw veggies to sprinkled peanuts on the top of a entree that was 80 percent celery chunks. The egg roll was less then edible. For my plate it was 3 strikes. They did make the 15 minute promise and it all ended there. read more

I don't know why this place gets soo much hate here on yelp. I have eaten here for years and honestly this is one of my favorite Chinese places of all time... and for me thats a pretty big statement. The food is cheap, and the selection is quite varied. The people who work there are always nice, and I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

We have been eating here for a long time. My opinion is that they are similar to a lot of small Chinese restaurants, they offer American style Chinese favorites and some more traditional Chinese dishes that are well prepared. My wife is from Taiwan and she gives them a Thumbs up as well. read more
