We ordered the family special B with two dishes, fried rice, soup and fried rice. They served us hot and sour soup, which is our favorite. The restaurant has been around since 1990, it gets a lunch crowd, but you should be able to dine in. There is plenty of parking in the lot. There waitress was very nice C and friendly. Great Wall Chinese Restaurant makes really good Beef Chow Fun! This place has been serving up Americanized Chinese food since 1990! I was there on a Friday evening, and decided to try the Beef Chow Fun as takeout. It was ready in 10-mins, and it was hot and fresh from the kitchen. It was SO good. The thick rice noodles were soft and covered in sauce. The beef was sliced thin, and was tender and easy to eat. The flavor was that of marinated beef, savory and slightly sweet. The assortment of thinly sliced veggies gave the chow fun a bit of a crunch. I would like to return and try other dishes. However, it seems they have rather limited hours. They're open for dinner Monday-Saturday, closed on Sunday, and only open for lunch on Monday. But they have a nice dining room with comfy booths along the walls, and round tables in the center. It's located in the Willow Glen Village Shopping Plaza at Bird Ave & Minnesota. Lots of free parking, and the anchor store is a Safeway. read more

wow, talk about flavor. The Kung Pao Beef was rich in flavor. Explodes in your mouth good. 10/10!! The rice was fresh, the rice could not have been more than a full day old. Flavor was good. I would prefer the chicken not look so white, but it was still good in flavor 9/10 the orange chicken was a bit chunky but again flavor was rich. We're so happy with all the food. Now the service was excellent! They were so nice while I waited. They gave me a couple extra fortune cookies to eat. When my order was finished they loaded me with sauces, cookies and even gave me some egg soup! My bf will be coming back to sit down and try other options. It's a cute date night spot. read more

Visiting my father in-law while in the area and this was the closest to his hotel. Honestly, anytime you eat Chinese food at a spot you're not familiar with, I always advise you dine-in to get a better experience before making it your to-go place and this place had really great taste in their food. Chicken salad - 8/10 the chicken in this dish was the star. It's fried chicken bits cut into the salad, but it was really the reason why we were smacking on it Szechuan green beans - 10/10 honestly there is heat in them, but not bad, like a pepper-y kind of heat and honestly we ate all of it before we left. Kung Pao chicken - 8/10 honestly it taste the same everywhere, but wasn't mad about it. Szechuan bean curd (minced pork & tofu) -10/10 our father in-law introduced us to this new dish and it was the best dish we ordered. If you like it spice, I'd suggest adding in hot chili oil which is probably why we were all eating it and going in for seconds. Drinks - can soda and individual hot tea cups Overall - 9/10 they always say that 3 1/2 star chinese spots are where you need to visit and honestly, I AGREE. Really wanted to like the food because it's walking distance from my place, but unfortunately they did not pass taste test. Ordered the salt n pepper fish and honey walnut shrimp togo. They were very careful to package every component of the shrimp separately. The walnuts were kinda the star of the night haha. The breading on the shrimp was too thick and made the shrimp feel even smaller. Dissappointing. The fish didn't really have salt n pepper flavor or much flavor. Such a homey spot with comforting food! Came here after my fiancées haircut next door because we needed a quick meal that wasn't fast food. So glad we came I really enjoyed it. It's a small restaurant with about 8 tables. It has an old school vibe. They have a really epic pothos in the front that I enjoyed tho lol. I'm pretty sure it's a family business. They were all so friendly and I feel like they had a good rapport with a bunch of regulars. It was a steady stream of customers coming in and out. I liked all the food. Hot and sour soup: good flavor land lots of filling inside like tofu and bamboo shoots. Beef and broccoli: my favorite, the broccoli stayed nice and crunchy but tender enough. I hate soft broccoli. It has a homey and cozy vibe that I love, and the staff are extremely helpful, kind, and welcoming :) We ordered the family special dinner for four (option B) and everything was so tasty. It came with vegetarian egg rolls, hot and sour soup, mongolian beef, kung pao chicken, BBQ pork fried rice (subbed pork for chicken), and salt and pepper prawns, and yu shang broccoli. Most dishes came out one by one and they were all so flavorful and good. When we were finished, staff kindly helped us box our leftovers. The best Chinese food I've had in a LONG time! I will admit though, the portion sizes are pretty small compared to what other places offer, and the prices are definitely higher than what you'd expect. But all in all, I'd say it's totally worth the money. Great service too by the way, and the Mongolian Beef stole the show! The food was so clean tasting and not greasy at all like most other places. This is a great little Chinese spot tucked away in Willow Glen. Everything here is super tasty! The interior isn't large but there are several indoor tables. The General chicken is delicious - it is crispy and flavorful and is white meat. All their beef dishes have high quality non-chewy beef. We got takeout for the cousin, when her husband was in rehab care at Kaiser. $12.99 eggplant-comes with a lot of pork, would order again. $10.49 won ton soup-pretty thin soup with scarcity of cabbage and few won tons and pieces of pork, would not order again. $14.49 mongolian beef-lots of white onions, green onions, red chilis and beef, outstanding dish , great flavor, but wife hated it. Good, so I could eat it all. $13.99 kung pao chicken- should be renamed peanut chicken, as no red chilis, and a few celeries to make up for the lack of bell peppers. Not at all spicy. Probably catered to the predominately white neighborhood. $2.99 steamed rice cooked perfectly, not too watery. $11.49 Mushu Pork nice blend of scrambled egg, pork, bamboo shoots, but flimsy wraps fell apart when contacted with plum sauce, and resembled tortillas from the local Mexican restaurant down the street. The sweetest little mom & pop shop!! While I wouldn't consider Great Wall Chinese Restaurant truly authentic when it comes to Chinese cuisine, it sure is delicious. Diners in the restaurant had food coming out at rapid fire pace and togo orders were consistently ready to go. Now I'm sure you'd gravitate to food being half a**ed since everything was being rushed out so quickly but it was the complete opposite. Food was piping hot which ensured fresh batches being made and the flavorings were good. Faves of the night were the sautéed veggies [sauce was out of this world!!!] and the beef, mushroom, and bamboo dish. Mongolian beef was okay and the chow mein could have used more noodles as opposed to the veggie & plentiful protein [but then again, I'm just obsessed with carbs]. Great Wall has been a Go To place for our family for 20 years. The food is consistently good. The service is always fantastic. We have come to know the owners and those who succeeded them in operating the restaurant. They watched our kids grow up and now, we theirs. Our kids went from Lemon Chicken Tenders to exploring the menu. The food is always 3.5 to 4 and they are happy to adjust the menu for you. Beef Chow Fun instead of chicken - not a problem. That did not take away from the great service and good food. The orange chicken wasn't my favorite I expected more orange flavor. Fried rice was my favorite over chow mein which was good but not very saucey at all. I loved the Mongolian beef they have a full menu so I'll have to adjust some of my order next time. I really enjoy the food and the attitude of the people who work there. However, what I don't like is spending near $100 when I dine-in, eating 1/3 of my food, then when I ask for the rest of the food to go they fill up the to-go boxes halfway. I can't even understand what would motivate someone to do that. More than half of the food I paid for is thrown out. I don't care what the reason is, it's unacceptable. Stop doing it. Give me all the food I paid for. They take it in the back to pack it then bring it back in a bag all tied up I guess assuming you won't check. What hurts more is I tipped 25%. Make sure they pack the food infront of you or check your boxes immediately. read more

For at least 10 years of experiencing to go to different restaurants, this Chinese restaurant is definitely caught my eye. The place is small, at least enough for 15 to 20 guests which can be served at the time. It is shabby , but clean. Portions are definitely generous, the waiter who came down to our table had a great greeting and welcoming attitude. Standard and reliable Chinese takeout joint. Well priced. Had the Kung pao chicken and the Mapo tofu. The mapo tofu contained pork and they triple checked if we're ok with it, which I really appreciated. So thoughtful. I do wish they offered fried rice with brown rice instead of white rice, because their brown rice is really excellent and soft. Service is quick, about 15 minutes depending on how busy they are. The shrimp was a little chewy, not soft with a crisp around it like I'm used to (I tried it fresh from when I walked out with my-to go box); while the soup's chicken was the same. The beef chow fun is delicious and very flavorful, the beef is great in it. The fried rice could use more seasoning, we typically have to douse it in soy sauce because it's pretty bland without it.
