3.5/5 so I'll round up to 4. It was 830pm and we were looking for some takeout in Holland, and this was the only place open - it's open till 10pm on Sundays. My boyfriend got the Szechuan beef and I got the chicken with cashews. The prices are very fair here - you can get a small pint container for about $8 or a larger quart for $10-11. We both opted for the combination plate, for about $10.50 each, which includes chicken fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll turned out to be a veggie egg roll and was very good. I thought my meal was just okay - probably 3/5 - but the Szechuan beef seemed better. The rice, however, was very good. Worth stopping by for a quick meal if you're in Holland and want Chinese food - they have booths but it seemed like mostly takeout. Also note that they're cash-only, though their Yelp page does reflect that. You can also order online ahead of time for pickup, it looked like you still had to pay with cash though upon pickup. read more

This place has decent Chinese food and the prices are great! It's not extraordinary but it's been around forever and I like supporting local businesses. I like the fried rice here and the chicken wings are tasty. I have had the orange chicken and it's not my favorite from here but is still decent tasting. The lo mein is also really tasty but it's also hard to mess up. Overall, super decent servings for the value. read more

Hadn't stop here in years and found it has become even more needing of a good scrub. I ordered on line 30 min. before wanting to pick up. Ordered online because they sold Spring Rolls and our daughter is mostly veggie and our normal place doesn't sell them. Honestly, the whole experience was not the best. The food was really bad- plus they only took cash, (we didn't have with us as we were coming from elsewhere- so we had to go home to get some). The Crab Rangoon's were missing from the order, the spring roll was slimy inside and a ton of pastry, with little filling - mostly mushrooms. My daughter did not like it. The veggie Lo Mein was definitely the best of the dishes we ordered- but greasy and with few veggies. The Singapore Mei Fun was just terrible- the meat and shrimp had a weird texture and didn't taste fresh. The veggies tasted musty and it was just bland, with a weird musty after taste. I couldn't even swallow the piece of shrimp I tried as it tasted like the smell of old fish tank water. (We recently had all the same dishes up in Spring Lake and they were all amazing). The beef chop suey was strange- the meat had such a weird texture and the sauce did not taste good at all and had a strange, gelatinous texture. I managed to eat the egg roll - but my hubby couldn't eat his. All the veggies tasted weird. All in all- non of us ate much and we basically threw away our entire meals. Even the fortune cookies were stale. So disappointed - we will never stray from China Inn South again, or the place in Spring Lake, - spring rolls or not! :) read more

Service is always great they're always done within 15-20mins of you placing your order like they tell you over the phone. Food!! I love how they make their Chinese food right now I'm pregnant & have noticed when the parents an their son I assume are the ones cooking that day compared to the younger women. Still good over all but prefer when the parents & son cook. It definitely tastes healthier than other Chinese restaurants in Holland. read more

The China Kitchen is our "go-to" for Chinese takeout. It isn't a fancy place by any means, yet when we have a hankering for Chinese, this is where we go. The combination plates are a real bargain and come with an egg roll and a large single-sized portion of the entree of your choice. We often order the Mongolian Beef or the Szechuan Chicken with white rice. My husband is on a low salt diet, and the owners are always happy to accommodate his needs. The egg rolls are consistently fresh, flaky, and delicious. The crab lagoons are also tasty, yet sometimes just a tad bit greasy. The Mongolian Beef is rich with flavor, as is the Szechuan Chicken. Their Szechuan Chicken isn't super spicy though, so if you like it hot, ask them to kick it up a notch. As I said, China Kitchen isn't fancy. It's just a speedy quick, takeout place with sizable portions, and tasty food at a very reasonable price. read more

I got take-out here and got several of their items. I would rate the overall quality of the food (across 5 different menu items) as average. The egg-foo-yung was good but the rest were nothing to write home about. My favorite Chinese dish is fried rice. Unfortunately the fried rice that I was served was below my expectations. The seasoning seemmed to be a bit bland. If I did order from here again I would avoid the fried rice. I know that a lot Chinese places only accept cash, and that's the case here. I usually don't carry cash on me so this was a bit inconvenient for me. They do have a very good online ordering platform. The issue here is that you cannot pay for the order online. Lastly I absolutely hate when I'm charged for fortune cookies. These should never be a charged item in my opinion and at China Kitchen they cost $0.50. I'm sorry by that price is terrible. I do not think I will be back here for Chinese food. read more

This place is very cheap, yet somehow still overpriced. If you are craving Chinese food and excited to try a new place, you WILL be disappointed. Took it back to explain the mistake and was told that they didn't understand and it couldn't be fixed! Had the combo plate with Gen Tso's Chicken. It comes with fried rice, egg roll, 3 broccoli, and a fortune cookie. It was decent; the chicken was a little to salty for me. My friend had their wonton soup. The broth was definitely too salty. I'm assuming they're catering to American taste buds, because as an honorary Chinese guy (deemed so by my Chinese friends), it's definitely not totally authentic. This place is great! Just ordered delivery for the first time. I'm a college student sick of dining hall food and wanted something different. Person on the phone was so nice and knew what he was doing. Phone was on vibrate when they came, but they were very patient. Food was hot and delicious. I cannot eat Chinese food outside of Holland anymore. This food is by far some of the best you will ever have. It doesn't matter if your rich or poor, China kitchen has the right meal for you. I religiously order the C18 sesame chicken and an order of crab meat Rangoon's. Last time I left the city to visit some friends in Detroit they wanted to get Chinese and the holland native that lives there and I agreed that nobody can even come close to China kitchen.... they have ruined all other Chinese food for me... their pork fried rice is next level amazing. read more

Went to this place while visting the area for the first time and saw their menu at the hotel we were staying at. Was greeted at the door by a little boy, probably 9 or 10, who held the door open for us. The service was excellent, they were very attentive, almost too attentive a times. It was hard to carry on a conversation at the table when every 5 minutes we were asked if we needed anything. However we did enjoy everything. They were very sweet people and the food was amazing. The egg drop soup was slightly too salty but was still very good comfort food. The sweet and sour combo was served with the sauce on the sauce, which we thought was great b/c it allowed the breading on the meat to stay crunchy and not soggy. I went to order for delivery just for myself. My combo came to 12 dollars. The lady said that i need to pay 20 dollars for it or they can't deliver. I told her that I will pay 12 and tip the driver 8 dollars for driving it .8 miles to me. She said ok but I need to pay 20 dollars for my 12 dollar meal then tip the driver on top of that. Why would I pay 20 dollars for a 12 dollar meal? An average meal at that. Why would you turn down a 67% tip just bc you think that you can hustle me out of more. I come here often and I love it. The food is awesome, not expensive at all, and it comes out pretty fast. The most I've ever had to wait was 5 minutes, and that's when they were busy. I wouldn't say the customer service is perfect, but they seem pretty friendly and patient. I'm almost always greeted with a "Hello" and "how are you" by the employees as I walk in. I hate to do it but after tonight's meal here I need to knock off a couple of stars. Once again I'd like to be able to give a rating with a half star, like giving this place 2 1/2 stars, but that's not possible so I'm rounding down since it's closer to a 2 star place than a 3 star place. I was debating in my head whether to get the beef and broccoli or the sweet and sour pork. I chose the sweet and sour pork and that was a big mistake. Not one single piece of the pork had any flavor of pork in it due to there being too much breading on the outside and not enough pork inside. I know that sweet and sour pork is a deep fried food, but for some reason here it is excessively greasy. Then to add insult to injury the sweet and sour sauce was the weirdest I've ever had. It's really hard to describe but I'll try. The sauce was just barely, and I do mean just barely, thicker than water. The taste is the part hard to describe but the best I can do is describe it as tasting like maybe a weak orange juice with just a little cherry juice in it. The pork fried rice and egg roll that came with the meal were OK but certainly nothing to get excited about. On the positive side though the people working here while not overly talkative (possibly due to English maybe not being the language they are most comfortable with) do treat their customers nice and do their best to put forth a friendly feeling. The other positive is that although I've kind of bashed on them for their shortcomings I will say that they do fill a much needed niche in our town of serving Chinese fast food for take out and the flavors generally are anywhere from adequate to pretty good. The last positive is that the sized servings you get are very fair for the price you pay. After tonight's dining experience will I choose this place if I have a craving for Chinese food? Nope. However, if I find myself thinking I'm feeling too lazy to cook and maybe I'll just hit one of the nearby fast food burger or taco joints hopefully I'll remember China Kitchen because although not perfect in every way they certainly are a much better option than the fast food burger and taco joints in our town. read more

Been loyal to China Kitchen for the past 3 years now. I'm a college student, and when I go back home on breaks, I can't find Chinese take-out that is as good anymore. It's great when they deliver, but you have to make sure to ask for the order total and estimated delivery time, because otherwise they won't tell you until they show up at your door.
