From the reviews I had read, I was afraid this was mostly a Cantonese style restaurant, but it's not. They serve plenty of Mandarin and Szechuan dishes, too. It was very late (about 10 minutes before closing), so we didn't want to each much. We had 2 Egg Foo Young appetizers (one each), and a large bowl of Chow Ma Soup with Noodles. The waiter / owner told us he has a spiciness level of 1-10. After a recent experience at another Chinese restaurant asking for "Spicy" and getting bland, I boldly said EIGHT. Oops. Entirely my fault, as the food we got was probably accurately described as an 8 if 10 is the maximum spiciness possible. I like my food hot, but this was too much. Actually it was fine for the ingredients in the soup, but the soup itself was too hot to have more than a dozen tablespoons of. So it's tough for me to give an accurate assessment. But my best guess is it's quite good. I hadn't had an Egg Foo Young in well over a dozen years. It was tasty, but nothing special. The Chow Ma soup had a lot of delicious ingredients, but I can't rate the soup base at all (again, my fault). I ordered Singapore noodles and crab puffs. Could only eat a couple of bites of the noodles. I ate the CP's. To be clear- I like spicy food and I like curry. This dish was too heavily seasoned and not actually spicy (which it had been advertised as). I could feel the curry granules because it was so caked on. I usually really enjoy this dish at other places. Also, there may be a restaurant cleanliness issue. When i entered to pick up I was greeted by flying insects (moths, flies?). This place has sealed the deal for me in contemplating moving to the area -Waldport is such a quaint town! Originally I'm from Oregon but have been living in So Cal the last 10 years because of military orders, and I haven't been able to make up my mind about coming back to Oregon until now. I'm used to having A LOT of tasty food options, and this place more than met my expectations in quality and service. Tried Mike's Special, triple garden chow mein, and the salt/pepper green beans on the staff's recommendation. Everything rated an A! It's so great finding such awesome Chinese food in such a remote area. The only way I could see the place offering something more is if they delivered, as sometimes at the coast you really want to just stay in. I hate leaving negative reviews so I'd rather not expand too much, but the waitress was kind of rude and made me feel uncomfortable when picking up my food, making comments about the way I looked/the way I was dressed. This is the real deal Hong Kong style. The owner and staff are super friendly and will be more then happy to suggest dishes. Sauces are flavorful and unique to each dish we had. Egg Roll with that wonderful traditional wrapper. No oily spring roll here. The interior is more like someone's needed makeover space. But you won't care once the food hits your mouth! Had an absolutely delicious Chinese dinner here with family on our first night in Waldport. We were surprised to find such authentic Chinese in the middle of a small coastal town. We ordered the Chef's special- salt and pepper fish- great hit with the 4 yr old and the entire family! The China restaurant is one exceptional restaurant in this little town of Waldport! Ordering in or for takeout is fast and exceptionally yummy (done both) The price is medium priced but worth every penny!! The owners are always present and exceptionally friendly with the customers every time you come in. If you come in on a regular basis they'll know your name. We loved their varied and sumptuous menu and have never had any issues with any of them to date. We also noticed the premises were always clean and tidy as well. You CAN'T go wrong here if you are looking for a culinary treat whether it be in house or take out. Look for the YELLOW store front on the right if heading south on Hwy 101. Enjoy! read more

I'm always skeptical of any restaurant whose name begins with "China", but my wife and I were in the area and this looked the best option for Asian food from Yelp reviewers. My wife ordered Mongolian Beef at hot level 4,and I ordered Three Meat and Vegetables. The food was surprisingly good and the amounts were generous. My wife is Asian and accustomed to spicy hot food, but found level 4 to be hotter than she imagined. My order was exactly what I hoped for; it was good (yes, it's made for the American palette) and not too salty. The meat was tender and the vegetables were stir-fried perfectly. The very friendly owner stopped at our table and asked how the food tasted, and my with commented hers was good but a little salty. He whisked her plate away and within less than five minutes he returned with a less salty version! Wow. And he did not do this with a scowl but in a very humble manner. The place itself was clean and not overdone, and they played traditional Chinese music through their sound system. We will go back the next time we're in Waldport. read more

I was so happy to see that this place is under new ownership and heard great things about it from my family up in Oregon. On our last trip to Waldport we were able to have dinner here. The food was solid, Americanized Chinese food. The chow mein was ok but the star of the night were the honey walnut prawns! they were soooo good! the huge shrimp were coated in a perfect, light & crispy batter. They were perfectly fried and tender. The sauce was amazing! It was sweet without being too sacchrine. The walnuts added the perfect crunch. The service was great! There was a lady who took our drink orders but the food orders were taken by the owner/chef. No one else was allowed to take orders...I thought it was kinda weird but maybe he just wants to connect with his patrons? Who knows! VERY disappointed. After reading some positive reviews, we decided to give this place a try for takeout. Ordered two combination dinners which were to include veggies, pork fried rice, sweet & sour pork, bbq pork, soup and egg rolls. The bbq pork were 4 small pieces of extra dry shoe leather, the sweet and sour pork was a box of dough pieces and side of orange sauce, and the soup was yellowish thick goo. Egg rolls were overcooked and blah. On the slightly good side, the pork fried rice and veggies were decent. The restaurant was about 1/3 full, which likely told another story as well. We threw out about half of the food, as it wasn't worth hanging on to. I wouldn't recommend this place at all, so do yourself a favor and go another route. Great food options in Yachats. read more

You have to love this place. The food is actually pretty great, and staff is friendly and helpful- if not a bit too much so. Went there with the significant other a few months back, and just had a weird dining experience. No background music and we were the only ones. Owner pretty much just stood nearby our table the whole time (I'm sure it was to improve service, with the best of intentions) but made having any sort of conversation awkward. We finally found a great chinese restaurant on the Oregon coast. Seriously, this place knows how to season properly and not overcook the vegetables! We ordered the salt and pepper fish today and both couldn't stop eating it. Fish is usually not what my husband prefers, but he thoroughly enjoyed this dish. Came here last year with my long time friend and we fell in love with the Honey walnut shrimp. Brought my husband here tonight. We ordered the shrimp and orange chicken. I have never had better...anywhere. It's a small, older building, but everything was spotlessly clean. Service is great with tasty hot tea served upon seating and the owner makes you feel right at home. A real Jewell for this small town. Best Chinese food restaurant we have ever been to. Wonderful value, fantastic owners and the most authentic food around. Service is top notch. We own a vacation home in Waldport and visit whenever we can. I left my purse at the restaurant on a Saturday night (they are closed on Sunday) and the owners held onto my purse for a week and a half until I could return. I never worried about it for a moment. For a tiny restaurant tucked in small Waldport this place was a find! The lady who took my order was very friendly. I had To Go and the service was fast. Had Broccoli Beef and really enjoyed the addition of carrots. One of the best we've had with good balance of veggies to beef.
