Solid Chinese takeout!! I wish I took a photo, but they PACK the food in the trays y'all. I got a combo plate with one entree, I chose BBQ pork with chow mein. The chow mein is a bit plain but will satisfy your craving if you're a texture person because the noodles have the perfect bite to them. Their BBQ pork here is SOLID 10/10, moist, juicy and flavorful. It's honestly hard to find a takeout spot where the BBQ pork isn't super dry, so I'll be coming back when I'm in Long Beach. read more

Came here because I wanted to stop by Zero Express and I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the food. Now the restaurant itself is called China Star Express but they do serve Vietnamese pho as well and I LOVE pho. There are several kinds of pho bowls you can order and they come in either the small or large size. I chose to order the well done flank in a small size for $6.50 and found it rightly portioned for me. The condiments were perfect and I like how they also have sauces in the fridge. My boyfriend opted for teriyaki chicken with fried rice and broccoli. For both entrees it only cost us $13 which is a pretty good deal if you ask me and the bowl was actually quite delicious as well. Most people do opt for take out but there are several tables in the restaurant. They don't serve you because it's a counter, but it's small and cozy enough where you can just pick it up in a pinch. This place is a bit more expensive than other places at $13 something for a two item combo while others are around $11 something. And everywhere are adding those automatic tip screens, tip culture needs to die, with expenses and prices going up , forgettaboutit. The white rice has been sitting for a while and it gets a little brown and has that funny taste and smell to it. I usually get that too when I cook white rice at home, usually the bottom starts getting the brown funny smelling and taste... I have no idea how to get rid of it or what is causing it but I don't like it. I tried using bottled water, rinsing more, it baffles me. But it get's like that the longer it sits and the more water evaporates from the rice. I get with the location they're able to charge more, but I expect the rice to be white and tasteless like other places. Probably the fact that not many people order white rice at this location causes it to sit longer. Other locations the rice is as expected although Panda Express rice gets dry too for the same reason but I don't recall that brown staining smell and taste, maybe cause they use a huge cooker? not sure. The teryaki chicken seems fine, not overly sauced or too much oil. The orange chicken is too hard and clumps are too small for my taste. read more

I tried China Star Express for the first time last night. The food was really good and the people working there were very nice and friendly, with kind smiles. There were a few people in line in front of me but it was very fast. I want to go back to try the boba and more food. This is our second time getting take out and I am a big fan of their eggplant tofu. It always has the right amount of spice and sauce. What I love is that even for a take out establishment, their service is top notch. The workers are so friendly and attentive all while there is a line out the door. I came here for a quick bite and ordered a side order or Chinese orange chicken and a combination pho. The soup in the pho was very tasty but a bit too salty for my personal taste. Apart from meat balls (cut in half), thinly sliced beef, and tripe, I wish there were lots of tendon. Even though the menu said that the combo includes tendon, I did not find any. The leftover noodles was tasty and the leftover noodles did not turn into mush despite it sitting in the broth for several hours before I ate the leftover. The Orange chicken was tasty. THEY USED OLD, COOKED, LEFTOVER PORK FOR MY COOK-TO-ORDER SWEET AND SOUR PORK! They just wrapped around some cornbread type breading to hide the old cooked pork, then threw in the sauces. It was hard and black! I'm not even complaining at the fact that they only put 5-7 pieces in that. I called them, and came back and the guy just gave me $10 and moved me along. They legit cooked old meat, pass it off as COOKED-TO-ORDER(!!!) and thought that was okay to do. They should be sued or possibly closed down for health endangerment, not just for me, but others! It has gone thro several management and I have energetic had a problem with their food and avocado smoothie. i was in there area and thought I would pass by since I have no been back for years also. Quick and easy lunch option for me. The prices are low, so it's a really great value, especially since they load up the food you get. They really fill up those little compartments with the noodles or rice or the entrees. I have never gotten any food besides the buffet/steam table options, so I can't say how the pho or drinks are. I usually get the chow mein and teriyaki chicken without sauce as those are reliable. Nothing amazing but filling for sure.
