I will never come back here. Ordered the red roasted duck, waited 15 minutes, paid $50 with tip, and when I got home, it was basically a box of bones with almost no meat. When I called, the owner Sam was completely unprofessional, rude, yelling, and blaming me for supposedly "eating it" before taking pictures. Instead of apologizing, he told me, I would have to drive 45 minutes back that same night before closing. Yeah, no. I went back the next day, and again he was rude, disrespectful, and literally counted the bones to question me, as if I was trying to scam him. We've only heard great things about this little Chinese restaurant and driven by many times. Finally placed an online order to go and got half a duck & an order of cream cheese wontons. When we came to pick up, we were immediately and warmly greeted, they were just wrapping up our order so we had a chance to look over their dine-in menu. It is incredibly expansive!! We were really intrigued by the family style meal options and may have to come back again to eat in the restaurant. When we brought the duck home, it was still hot and so delicious. It wasn't enough for our family of three so we may need to get a whole duck next time. The wontons were a bit greasy though and we only ate about half of the order unfortunately. The roast pig and cha sui was not good. Pig skin was hard as a rock and the chopping skillz were lacking. Food came out looking like an amateur using a cleaver. Best authentic Chinese BBQ food in Minnesota! Family moved here from LA and could not find anything close. Met the family, handing down the cooking skills to the kids. We had our testers (beef chow fun, fried rice with char siu (bbq pork), fish fillet with black bean sauce, crispy tofu, chicken with ginger and onion sauce, pork chops with spicy salt and pepper). This place doesn't look like much but the food is worth it. I have only ever ordered directly from the menu, which has lots of traditional Chinese dishes plus the americanized ones we all know. I think this place does a lot of take out orders and we have done that too. Both eat in and take out are great and after a few visits, they definitely know us. :) They also feature a counter where you can order more "exotic" things like whole ducks and foods that us westerners might not consider. Phenomenal experience all around. We came in on Saturday night, and the space was relatively full. The vibe is very cute, hole in the wall Chinese with Guan Yin on the wall. The woman who was in charge was running dishes quickly and efficiently. She was also one of the kindest, warmest, and most attentive people I've met. She speaks many languages: Mandarin, Canto, English, Vietnamese, and Lao. Now the food: OH MY GOODNESS. We has cha siu and hainanese chicken for the apps, and garlic pea tips for the veggie. Our main was the braised pork with pickled vegetables. Everything was stellar, the two mains especially. The pork was butter-soft and tender, and the pea tips were generous in portion and so fresh. Piece of advice here: when you order, don't go for the American dishes! You can get those anywhere. Try something on the authentic side-- XiaoHongShu (Chinese instagram) recommends their lobster noodles and their pork liver. Hip Sing is a must try. read more

My new go to for sesame chicken, great flavor, hot, crispy and delicious. We also like the fresh spring rolls. They have pork and shrimp in them and fresh mint and a nice dark sauce for dipping. Chicken Fried rice is good, fairly average. I have had the chicken and vegetables as well it was solid. The servings are big and reasonably priced. When I came here, my party ordered two bowls of roast duck, egg wonton noodle soup. The duck, was plentiful and delicious. Wontons, they were alright, I've personally had better at home or in vegas. But for Minnesota, meh. The noodles, they were meh as well. As for the broth, delicious. Now, this bowl was huge, and it cost $10 approximately, for a bowl. This IS MORE THAN reasonably priced, due to the fact that many other places you order a bowl of roast duck egg wonton, and it is $12-15 dollars, and either the quality of the duck is poor or you get a small small amount. Other than that, they sell great bread for chao. And their bien bao is not too shabby either. Bottom line: I'm giving this a 4 stars because of their duck, price for the soup and speed of service. TLDR: go for the duck, skip everything else. On a whole, this restaurant is underwhelming. What brought me here was their roasted duck and boy was it the most succulent in the metro area. I've gone only to be told their first batch sold out and second one would be out in 30 min so I stuck around only to be told it'll be another 30 minutes. Any other place I never would have but I'm an addict for their roasted duck. If they served only duck, this place is easily 5 stars. Drawn in by their delectable duck, I tried their regular menu. Soup was terribly watered down and lacking any umami. The stir fry was worse than what you can find at a Leeann Chin/Panda Express. The roasted pork is very dry, I would recommend stopping by next door to the Vinai Market for their pork belly (their duck is cheaper but lacks the depth that Hiep Thanh has). Summary: - Odd store that functions as both a restaurant and a place to get roasted meats to go - The duck is tasty - The pho was tasty but filled with MSG - The Banh Mi was well filled but the bread was dry - The service was mediocre --- I took a nap shortly after going to Hiep Thanh and with a wicked hangover which was weird because I didn't drink a drop of alcohol. The store was strange, with both a restaurant seating area, and a booth to order for duck take-out. I ordered Combination Pho with all the meats and a BBQ Pork Banh Mi. My mom also picked up some duck for me to try. The roasted duck was juicy with just the right amount of fat. It came with a soy sauce based dipping sauce that complimented all the favors. The Banh Mi came shortly after. It was larger than most Banh Mi's I've had, about the length of a footlong at Subway with dry, large loafed supermarket french bread. Though the filling was solid it wasn't good enough to make up for the subpar french bread. Finally, the Pho arrived. My dad, who was dining with me, ordered Pho as well but they screwed up the order. After some confusion for about five minutes, things were finally sorted out. The owners were very nice; I'm pretty sure they gave my dad extra meat. The broth was nice, flavorful, and clear, which is a good sign of clean pho. The noodles were a little overcooked, unfortunately. The meat was also relatively sparse. But I thought the broth made up for it. It wasn't too salty but especially... zesty for lack of better word. I finished completely satisfied and went into a food coma. Unfortunately, I woke up confused with hangover symptoms. I was severely dehydrated and craved water for the rest of the afternoon and night. I'm guessing there was a bunch of MSG added into the Pho... which was made worse by the amount of soup I drank in the end. Overall, the food and service were all right. Our family has been very loyal customers to this small business family when they were on Eat Street in Mpls on Nicolette Ave. It was a tradition that my mom would get food here every Friday waiting for us after school. Hands down they have the best roast duck in the twin cities! Roast pork is great also but depending when you go and what they have, it can get rather dry. We were ecstatic when they relocated to Brooklyn Center. Less traffic and more parking! Despite the pretty tasty roast duck, we've taken our business elsewhere. They lack customer service and I feel the couple who runs the place is severely burnt out from being over worked. I know they've changed their restaurant menus a few times and limited their deli selections but don't come expecting a warm greeting. More of "what you want!"
