I was so disappointed with the food from China Star. We usually order from a Thai restaurant but wanted to try another local place. We ordered our typical food: 2 orange chicken and 1 beef lo mein. The dinner meals came with a choice of egg roll or rations, we all chose the egg roll. This place is still in the practice of no contact pick up. Cool, no a problem. We waited in our car till they called us and then an employee placed our food on a table and I went and grabbed it. Everything was in the bag; our meals, egg rolls, lots of sauce and fortune cookies. Good thing we went home to eat because there were no forks or napkins. I should add, IF you feel the desire to order pick up from here place your order directly to the restaurant. If you order from a meal service you will pay $2 or more per meal than what the restaurant actually charges. This is where it all went downhill. I was so hungry after a day at the new water park and could. It wait to eat. I made myself a plate of both orange chicken and beef lo mein ( kind of strange the beef lo mein order came with rice, I would have preferred a whole plate of lo mein). The lo mein was decent and the beef what you expect from fast Chinese food. The check was horrible, over cooked, hard to chew, and tasted like heated up leftovers that stayed in the microwave too long. The rice was dry and had small pieces of pork that was also dry. My husband didn't even eat after he had one bite. Sad to say, most of the food went to the trash. I hate to leave this review but we were all so disappointed with the food. (My teenager did eat all 3 egg rolls so I assume those were good)

The hostess quickly seated us in the bar area, which seemed strange for 2 reasons. The main dining room didn't appear to be nearly full and that cruel afternoon sun was reflecting off a windshield into our eyes. We asked her if we could move but she said she would lower the window blinds. That helped! Our server, Erick, arrived quickly and took very good care of us. I ordered the Mongolian Trio, from the Chef's Favorites part of the menu. It comes with beef, chicken & shrimp and their signature Mongolian sauce. Also, broccoli, carrots and green onions. Erick asked if I wanted white rice, brown rice, fried rice or lo mein. I picked lo mein. Erick asked it I was okay with the upcharge for lo mein. I shrugged it off but should have asked how much. Turns out that it was an additional $4 for a small bowl of plain lo mein noodles. Yep, the menu even had a little +4 on the option. Should have gone with the rice. Anyway, we watched one of the FIFA fútbol games while we waited for our dinner. Erick brought my Mongolian Trio but it didn't look quite right. I expected to see a rich, brown hoisin based sauce on these wok-fried proteins and veggies. But, the beef, chicken and shrimp were covered with a thin batter. The batter was not expected and it had a starchy flavor. The pieces of beef, chicken and shrimp tasted the same. Starchy. There was very little sauce on the entre, too. Erick was nice enough to bring me a small bowl of their thin, signature Mongolian sauce, which helped a lot and it also improved the flavor of the +4 lo mein. In honor of our anniversary, Erick comped us an Individual Dessert that we could share. We picked the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cream Pie. It must have come right from the deep freeze because the peanut butter mousse was frozen solid. It was really small but it tasted good and the thought is what counts. I wouldn't order this $27.49 entree, the ÷4 lo mein or the dessert again. But I do appreciate the great job that Erick did. He took very good care of us and made our dining experience remarkable.

So we decided to skip the heat and go to this place. It was such a lovely surprise. I opened the door and it was a lot bigger than it looks from the outside and so clean! Even the bathrooms were super clean and they have toilet seat covers! Food was also solid. We ordered a bunch of different things to share - calamari, riblets, crab rangoon, edamame, chicken XLB, truffle pork XLB, crispy udon, green beans. Everything had really excellent flavor, not too salty either. Our server was so sweet! She always said, "you're so welcome!" And she was quick to refill our drinks without us even asking. Overall, really great experience.

First, many of the dishes lacked the authenticity. The hot and sour soup wasn't sour at all and was overwhelmed by the flavor of sesame oil. The black bean noodles tasted like instant noodles you could make at home, and we ended up adding black vinegar ourselves just to bring some acidity and balance to the dish. The sweet chili shrimp also didn't taste fresh. At the end of our meal, we literally said "this tasted like Chinese buffet food." The service and dining environment made the experience even worse. Throughout our meal, we constantly heard dishes being slammed around from servers cleaning tables. At one point, something was dropped so hard that dishes shattered across the floor. A trash cart was parked right next to our booth while we were eating, and the staff even started mopping the floor directly in front of us during the lunch rush. I understand that restaurants often hire seasonal staff during the summer, but proper training is still important. The way the dishes were handled throughout our meal was loud, chaotic, and disruptive, making it difficult to enjoy our dining experience. It's unfortunate because our first experience of this restaurant was great, but this visit fell well short of our expectations.
