I've placed in orders with China Star many times and I loved the experience. The food is good and made promptly. It is made to order and they work with people to get the food out to you exactly as you ordered. The restaurant itself is pretty small but mostly deals with take out or delivery. They have the store itself decorated nicely though and it has tables set up for customers who wish to eat in. Today I got to experience something though and that was that Doordash tends to have some customers like "Sherri P" who placed a order on 12-7-24 and then complain when they ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan and not Moo Shoo Pork. Sherri's Husband went on to threaten the staff and harass them repeatedly. Apparently they don't know that they are being displayed now publicly to the entire city of the Colony. I hope to meet Sherri and her KAREN husband very soon. read more

The food is adequate. The prices are reasonable. The family that owns it and works behind the counter might be the rudest humans I've ever met. The young ones, are bored and dismissive. Not rude, just not wanting to be there. The elders, however are incredibly rude. The delivery driver (owner?) also adds a $5 written tip, and when you ask him why, he walks off. At the counter, they are just miserably rude. They are screaming in the kitchen and slamming stuff around. It's NOT a "cozy family environment" as their description says. It's hostile. read more

I was so disappointed with the food from China Star. We usually order from a Thai restaurant but wanted to try another local place. We ordered our typical food: 2 orange chicken and 1 beef lo mein. The dinner meals came with a choice of egg roll or rations, we all chose the egg roll. This place is still in the practice of no contact pick up. Cool, no a problem. We waited in our car till they called us and then an employee placed our food on a table and I went and grabbed it. Everything was in the bag; our meals, egg rolls, lots of sauce and fortune cookies. Good thing we went home to eat because there were no forks or napkins. I should add, IF you feel the desire to order pick up from here place your order directly to the restaurant. If you order from a meal service you will pay $2 or more per meal than what the restaurant actually charges. This is where it all went downhill. I was so hungry after a day at the new water park and could. It wait to eat. I made myself a plate of both orange chicken and beef lo mein ( kind of strange the beef lo mein order came with rice, I would have preferred a whole plate of lo mein). The lo mein was decent and the beef what you expect from fast Chinese food. The check was horrible, over cooked, hard to chew, and tasted like heated up leftovers that stayed in the microwave too long. The rice was dry and had small pieces of pork that was also dry. My husband didn't even eat after he had one bite. Sad to say, most of the food went to the trash. I hate to leave this review but we were all so disappointed with the food. By far, the worst chinese food I have ever had :( I ordered for delivery on Christmas day. I made a very large order over $30 to qualify for delivery. I gave a generous tip. Wehave been using this restaurant for years. Since Covid, they have gone downhill. The worst thing they repetitiously do is fail to include condiments no matter how many times you ask. When delivery comes, no duck sauce, no mustard. Its almost like they do it on purpose. read more

I had an order of their crab rangoons and honey chicken w/ fried rice. I loved the rangoons, however I had a different expectation for the honey chicken. Today was my first time trying China Star. I have been to many local Chinese restaurants looking to find some good shrimp egg foo young. I'm from the east coast and used to egg foo young coming with a brown gravy but theirs come with a brown sauce. Still good and better than other places I've tried. Come and eat at your own risk here, we got a stomach virus from here and I don't doubt COVID bc now Me and my partner are positive two days later after eating here it didn't seem very clean from the start or at least it didn't give me that impression. Came in the restaurant , it was dead the tables reminded me of an old school small cafetería , we got there my partner wanted to turn around as soon as we got inside based on the ambiance but it was recommended it so we still tried it out. I wanted a soda he said they only have bottles for purchase and so I did and my partner wanted water which they offered water from a foggy countertop plastic water dispenser with a styrofoam cup. The water was questionable, I still didn't walk out bc I didn't want to be rude and give them a chance. We had the chicken fried rice and chicken lo mein, the rice was yellow it looked like Mexican rice which was weird but I ate it anyways bc we were starving. the lo mein had a weird taste and the chicken was rubbery and seemed old or frozen and so did the rice, by this point my partner has stopped eating within a few bites the taste was a bit off and tasted a bit old . Tasted like a bad TV dinner. That's when started regretting everything . Shortly that night explosive watery diarrhea and turning stomach for the next 2 days barely getting over it today , I tested for COVID the next day bc I felt so sick and it went negative so I knew it was that place is what made me sick with a stomach virus because we don't even eat out , we just went there for the recommendation, now I won't trust anymore recommendations for a place that looks questionable and now both me and my partner are positive for the Vid. Which I can't fully attest that I got it from here but I surely don't doubt it. After reviewing the other reviews on here and seeing so many other people complain about their fried rice and getting sick over it I knew we hadn't been the only ones feeling sick after eating here. This place should be shut down. I ordered some food and when I dumped out the rice, a booger fell out. I called to have them refund my money and they told me to return the food and that they don't do refunds. I told them I'll gladly let them have the food back but I'm not bringing it there. I had to order delivery because I was at work and couldn't leave the store. So the crazy lady drove to my work and starting yelling at me in front of customers. She kept yelling "I need to take pictures, I need to take pictures!" I had to kick her out of the business. The owner was also yelling at me on the phone and kept hanging up on me. China Star is my go to place for Chinese delivery for 5 main reasons. 1. They are fast. I swear sometimes they are cooking the food in the car on the way over. 2. It's hot when it gets here. Like, blowing on the bite before I put it in my mouth hot. 3. They are honest. I was ordering some items separately that come as a combo, and instead of letting me needlessly spend too much, they told me I could get the dinner with all items for less money. 4. The order is right. The first time and every time. 5. Prodigious sauce packets. I like to make soy sauce soup out of my rice (don't judge) and they give me all the packets I need. 6. Last but NOT least, THE FOOD TASTES GOOD! Not like $50 a plate good... but we are talking delivery here. This is as good as it gets in delivery Chinese. And trust me. I've had a LOT of delivery Chinese. I have ordered from there many times now. You should too. I only say this because I want you to help me keep them in business so I can order more delicious food from them. read more

I would have to say that this is my second time to eat their food as I ALWAYS give a place two strikes before I make my mind up. The first time I purchased food I was fairly impressed but, not sold. The second time was the crowning jewel as the food was well prepared. I had the crab rangoon and the shrimp with lobster sauce. The portions were plenty, the rangoon's were crispy, they could have had a bit more portion inside but were still very good. The shrimp with lobster sauce was fresh and tasted great. I'm not a fan of their egg rolls....I have no idea what they are putting inside of them as far as cabbage but, they need to really re-think how they are making them. I got them once but, that was enough....I will get rangoons from that point forward. Over all good food and quick delivery to your door if you so choose...I have done both. I will be seeing them again when I hunger for more oriental food. read more

It's Chinese food, decent portions, nothing spectacular. They deliver which is nice if you are sick of ordering pizza. Their menu is typical, most of their dishes are heavy on thick cut pieces of onions, green peppers and other veggies and limited on meat. They do a decent house fried rice and their crab rangoon is better that other places. The people working there are kind of mean but they get busy, especially on Sunday nights so I can forgive that. China Star is an ok Chinese food place. The serve traditional meals and portions are good sized. The down side is the delivery, they have this one guy who was last seen driving a white Audi Small SUV who literally throws your food at you if he doesn't like the tip amount. We placed a order recently and went to pick up to discover it was labeled delivery. We raced home to get out food. We don't carry small bill cash but we were able to find some money. The driver was handed the money he looked at it and threw it back and (to a woman) through the food at his displeasure of the tip amount. This is not the first time it's happened either, my son (minor) incurred the same treatment where the driver thought the couple of dollars at him along with the food and walked off mumbling in his language. My first time here, every thing that uses water has a nasty taste. Like there's old pipes or needs to be filtered. Noodles not that good has nasty taste, rice has small taste. Second time is the charm! The first dish I ordered wasn't my favorite (i had the triple delight and thought them sauce was a little thin). This time we ordered orange chicken and shrimp w/ garlic sauce. Both were great. We also had the egg drop soup which was excellent, along with the crab rangoons. I had a little trouble placing my order because they were so busy, but my food was delivered very quickly. I'm so happy to finally have a tasty Chinese delivery place in The Colony.
