The knife-cut noodles were thick and chewy, with large pieces of tender beef in almost every bite. The menu has a nice mix of Northwestern specialties and familiar Chinese comfort food, so it's an easy place to visit with a group. A friend tried the crispy beef on a previous visit and really liked it, so that's already on my list for next time. There's plenty of free parking outside, and the dining room feels bright, clean, and comfortable. The weekday lunch special also makes the prices very reasonable. The staff kept our water filled, brought everything out promptly, and checked in to make sure the flavors worked for us. Attentive without hovering--which I really appreciated. A very solid new option near Irvine.

The noodles came out, the picture on the ordering menu shows egg, the Chinese description said with eggs, there was no eggs in our noodle? But since it's basically self service there was no server around so we figured just eat it. Oh my god, it's sooooo salty, the pork is poorly marinated with way too much salt, I had to eat a lot of noodle and some white rice to chuck it down. Then the crispy beef which a lot of people recommended, it was way overly fried, completely battered and barely any beef in there. This is worse than the noodles. We basically left the whole entire plate untouched, and not sure what we could do taking it home coz it's so bad. The only thing remotely ok is honey walnut shrimp, but given the poor quality of food, I would never be back again and do not recommend this place to anyone in Irvine.

I took that part home and my wife loved it. I tend to avoid the fatty meat and tendons are not good to me. 10 of us so some of the appetizers got passed around. The smashed cucumbers are excellent, and my buddy also got some friend potatoes of sorts, reminded me of a fat French fry. Because my buddy and I sat at the same table we scanned the same menu, he ordered a bunch of stuff and also House Special Beef Pot Roodle. That confused the kitchen and they asked me if I meant to order 2, I said no and didn't realize I cancelled my buddy's order. Part of the confusion of a large party and many scanned menu orders. My buddy was struggling to order and our initial waiter seemed to not understand my friend and that took a little bit to work out, young lady came from the back and was able to quickly resolve some of the confusion and get questions answered as needed. In the end he had lot of food to explore. One thing that caught my eye was several couples there and sharing a large soup item served with a tray of various food items for the soup. Kind of a date night visual and something that looked very interesting. Several couples around us had that same dish and its got me more curious. It's clean and inoffensive that fulfills its role well. However, the star of the show is the food and pricing. It's hard to find modern Chinese here in OC without paying an arm and a leg but Seven Grams is the best exception. The food here is fresh, light, flavorful, and doesn't break the bank. You get a good portion as well so if you're coming with a bigger group, it's easy to share. The pig ears and the beef rolls were impeccable and I would highly recommended getting them! The food here clears and elevates this restaurant into a must try.

That being said, many people swear this is the best, and that's why they can charge whatever they want. I'm actually allergic to lobster (lol) but am a team player so I just sampled it for the funsies, and had to get another dish to actually eat (went with the beef lok luk). My family said the lobster noodle was good, but not like, fantastic (which we were expecting not fantastic but yeah, mostly came here to a family meeting.) The beef lok luk was also pretty good like, 4.3 of 5 - we just had another version at Paradise which was astounding (like 4.6) though also more expensive and pretty far away. Overall, not sure if we'll come back again as we're more curious about the copycats that have popped up which might be 80% as good and much more affordable. Stay tuned! :)

These are more than enough for two people and we always have leftovers to take home. The mapo tofu pairs soooo well with the fried rice and my bf loves the chicken. Green beans are flavorful and crispy as well! Hot and sour soup is HUGE. They aren't consistent in making this because some days it's the perfect balance of tangy and spicy flavor, but other times its tooooo sour. The restaurant is very spacious.
