Took my family out to eat here for a little get together. My Godmother was craving good quality Chinese food and this happened to be not too far from her place, borderline Santa Ana/Tustin area. The parking is okay, its pretty small but its do able. We went to eat around 2 PM on a weekday so parking was great and the restaurant wasn't too busy. We were greeted the moment we walked in and sat at a table. What I liked about their menu was that they offer smaller plates if you want to order individually, and also offer family size plates for sharing. We of course opted for the bigger plates. We ordered orange chicken, chow mein, white rice, broccoli and beef, and pad thai. I want to start off by saying I'm typically picky with my orange chicken. It usually has a tad of an artificial flavor. This place was realllyyyyyy good. The flavor was good for all the dishes we got, the portions were very generous and more than enough for 3. I was surprised to find that I really like this place as I have been disappointed lately trying to find new Chinese places that were tasty. This place has great deals and happens to be next to one of my fav Japanese restaurants too! We started with egg drop soup and it was thick and hearty, added a little soy and spice to it and it was great, the schezwan wontons were amazing as well and had an interesting spice chili sauce to them which was great (I used the leftover chili sauce to add to my other food as well). The beef and broccoli had a lot of flavor but was my least fav of everything we ordered. Not bad but typical dish. The fried rice was cooked fine and I liked the veggies they included, it had nice taste and complimented the food as well. The chow mein was delicious and had great flavor and fresh ingredients too. Service was quick and excellent. The restaurant is pretty small so any party over 4 will need to combine tables which is what we did but it worked out. KPB for sure is my new favorite Chinese style cuisine restaurant in my local area. Discovered it late last year on yelp around the time I moved to my place here in Santa Ana / Tustin border area. Have had it now 3 times and have been meaning to on review it. The beef and broccoli are really well portioned and they definitely deliver with the beef. Really good ratio of broccoli, carrots and beef. Standout out dish. The bbq is super good. Very flavorful. Tender and I like the cabbage it comes on top of. The orange chicken and Mongolian beef are two other popular standout dishes. Whether you're dining in or just picking up take out, you're in for a treat with this place. Its got higher quality ingredients and preparation than your average like fast food / express type Chinese joint. Also, their Thai tea is delicious. I visited this restaurant for the first time and was really impressed! The lunch specials ($13.99) are incredibly affordable, especially considering the current economy, and the portions are huge. Each meal comes with rice, a main dish, soup, and even two dumplings--such a great deal! There's also convenient parking right in front, which makes it super easy to stop by. I organized a baby shower for my coworker at the office and was looking for good catering options. I wasn't too happy with the usual fast food choices, so I searched Yelp for Asian restaurants near my work. I found several options, but some were out of my budget and others didn't have great reviews. I came across KPB and spoke with Jerry, who was incredibly helpful and honest. He gave great advice on how much food to order for a group of 18 people. I originally planned to order four party trays (fried rice and three entrées), but he suggested that three trays would be enough. He was also very accommodating and gave me until the morning of the event to finalize my order. I ended up ordering Mongolian beef, Kung Pao chicken, and Young Chow fried rice. Everyone really enjoyed the food, and we even had some leftovers that we were able to enjoy the next day. The food was delicious, the pricing was reasonable, and the service was excellent. Our favs are the honey walnut shrimp- huge pieces of fresh shrimp perfectly draped with a light mayo sauce and candied walnuts. We also love the black pepper chicken- succulent slivers of white chicken meat with onions and green bell peppers in a spicy black pepper sauce. Ordered a bogo deal for lunch at work and I was pleasantly surprised by the portions and quality of the food here. Everything arrived packaged nicely with utensils and condiments. The orange chicken was light, airy and crispy with just the right amount of sticky sweet sauce on a bed of rice and broccoli The teriyaki chicken was also delicious. Not too sweet and prepared perfectly. The portions were just right for lunch and I enjoyed every bite. I ordered again a few more times cuz I was a fan! Can't beat the price a deal either! I don't understand why everyone likes the orange chicken so much, it's worse than Panda Express and equal to your hole in the wall place like "the Great Wall". The flavors are ok, it's one of those orange chicken bites that are mushy, steamed, and stringy, the kind of orange chicken bite that gets stuck in your teeth because it's stringy and mushy. But yea the flavors are there but not crispy at all. The only thing worth getting is Mongolian beef or trio. Anyone who gets the orange chicken for 15$ or says it's worth it is straight lying to you, it's just as equal to any random spot like Hong Kong express... it's mushy and gets stuck in your teeth. The fried rice was just white rice with soy sauce in a rice cooker. The chow mein noodles were good. Overall, It's good! Don't be fooled by the word bistro. This is a solid Asian restaurant. The interior has a dark ambiance going for it. For any entree, you can make it a combo and get an eggroll and a bowl of soup. Our eggroll was pipping hot and the egg flower soup was addicting. Their family size can easily feed two and if you go throw this route, you can feed two with $20-25 which is so doable for an amazing meal. An additional 50 cents for a can of soda was fine. Hubby's Kung Pao Chicken was tasty. I have had Mapo Tofu and Curry Chicken that I enjoyed. My friend ordered Wonton Soup, and it had plenty of goodies in a nice broth. The only thing I would change is the flimsy metal chairs. The sturdy wooden tables should have better seats. However, today I happened to try to Tustin location for the first time (I now work in the area). I must say, I got about 3 bites into my mapo-tofu, it tasted awful, too vinegary (I make this dish at home and don't know why they have vinegar in it). The rice had a nasty flavor and was salty. Picked this place after going to their other location in Fullerton and wanted to walk over to Oliboli Donuts after dinner, but found out they were closed. The staff was great at accommodating out party if 13, even in the small space. The food came out quickly and was hot and delicious. I decided to check out this place with my sister and parents because I got mail that they had a new location opening in Tustin. I went to eat there over the weekend and dined inside the restaurant. They have a lunch menu available. Interaction with staff was limited, but they seemed friendly overall. I don't know if it's family owned, but the older woman was very nice while the younger man who took our order seemed like he didn't even want to be there at times. We were the only ones dining in at the restaurant. Although one or two ppl did come by to pick up food. The restaurant isn't that big with the seating area off to the side of the front counter. We ordered mainly from the lunch menu and the food came very quickly. Probably less than 10 min for all 4 main dishes, including side dishes. The food was delicious,but heavy. BUT! I'm glad I waited to make this review because I got FOOD POISONING! The food at this restaurant is the only thing I ate the entire day because of how heavy it was, and I started feeling bad a couple of hours later. Then, the vomiting started in the early morning the following day. I don't know which food it was specifically because I sampled everything, but my main dish was the mapo tofu. I'm guessing because the food came out so fast, it had already been sitting there in the kitchen for quite a while and maybe went bad during that time. I will post pics of all the other food that was ordered. I feel bad to have to take away stars because the food did taste good, but I also feel like I need to be honest about my experience. I was a very big fan of this restaurant until they decided to change the recipe for their Kung Pao chicken in the past month. This is a such a traditional dish, one that should not be altered to this extent. Although I am not Asian, I have spent many nights in China and this dish is way under spiced with a strong citrus flavor, which is completely unfounded for a Kung Pao flavor. I hope the restaurant decides to change their flavor back to a more traditional Chinese dish. Otherwise, I will not ever be ordering it again. This visit though it was like I had asked for very few peanuts. Bummer! But no matter because the dish is still so good! If you look at the menu, you may think that a lot of it makes it come across as a "American Chinese" or "Chinese Takeout". Yet, it's decidedly a peg above. The speed the food came out (ordered takeout) was right quick. The quality of cooking technique and ingredients is definitely noticable; especially in the Orange Chicken - not sugary sweet, and huuuge chunks of chicken. Food portions are great!
