You know what you're going for when you head to Hong Kong express!! And yes, this is one of several locations that are known for the crazy portion sizes! And to confirm, the portions are in fact still crazy given the economy of 2026. The service is always polite but not overtly friendly lol Their hot food items are always well maintained throughout the day so that you never feel like you're getting the scraps out of any items. They do have a dining area with a restroom but, most folks tend to take their orders to go. Overall a solid spot for your Chinese food fix! read more

Noticed this place and recently and read a review that they load it up, so I came an eh. I am pretty sure the styrofoam boxes are smaller and my food was not overflowing. I got there around 11 at open and all the food looked fresh, I went with bbq pork and orange chicken. The pork was flavorful fatty and delicious and the orange chicken was fresh crunchy and good. This is good combo Chinese but don't come expecting a massive amount of food. read more

I was on a work trip and was looking for a place to eat dinner. I found this restaurant on yelp and social media foodie influencer. When I entered the restaurant I was greeted by staff. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I ordered white rice/fried rice with mushroom chicken and teriyaki chicken. The mushroom chicken and teriyaki chicken was tender and very delicious. The rice was soft and the perfect side dish to the mushroom chicken and teriyaki chicken. I also ordered chicken wings and those were phenomenal and crispy. You get great portions for the price. First time visit. I was really craving some Chinese food and one that had BBQ pork or Char-Siu. Did my research, found this place on Yelp and read some great positive reviews. With that I saw they also had BBQ pork so of course we had to make a stop. Stopped by for dinner on the way home from Disneyland. Very convenient, prices are fair, staff are awesome people, very helpful and courteous and the location is right off the freeway I-5. Many great looking dishes but went for the basic and yummy combo(please see pics). They have a nice and simple dining area that we ate at and rested for a bit before we went back onto the road. I would definitely come back and try other dishes with BBQ Pork, lol. Hope my experiences help others. Have an awesome day! read more

I was looking for a Chinese restaurant for lunch and found this one on Yelp. The reviews were so good that I wanted to give it a shot. We came here on a Monday at noon. They offer a lot of choices. I got the two item combo. That comes with fried rice and chow mein and your choice of two items from their steam table. I got teriyaki chicken and barbecued pork. My wife got a one item combo also with fried rice and chow mein. She chose orange chicken as her entree. They pretty much fill a to-go carton with rice and chow mein and then heap your entrees on top of the rice and noodles. Lots of food but not too appetizing to look at. The chow mein was ok. The fried rice was clumpy. I missed the egg in this dish. The teriyaki chicken did not have much flavor. It was skin on. The skin was rubbery and not very appetizing to look at. The barbecue pork was ok. Orange chicken is a favorite of mine. However, this was overly doughy and overly sweet. Friendly and helpful staff. They offer a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Their prices are very reasonable considering the enormous quantities you get. They do miss the mark on flavor and execution of their dishes. They had a pretty good crowd that seemed to be enjoying the food. I did not see the appeal. read more

I finally got to try the much lauded Hong Kong Express located at an unassuming corner of Tustin next to Arco gas station, with the argument could be made that some of the best Chinese American food can be found in such places. Certainly the name being Hong Kong and not China Express was not lost on me, less political than gastrointestinal. This means food leaned slightly more towards Cantonese Chinese, the tender juicy fatty HK style BBQ pork with its signature atomic red a highlight of my visit. The Chicken & Mushroom had generous portions of zucchini and while standard, tasted fresh and there were plenty of large chicken chunks swimming around in the brown savory sauce. The fried rice was far too wet and broken to be anything but a vehicle for soaking up any remaining sauce from the BBQ Pork. I was not into the Orange Chicken myself, it was too sweet, too much batter too little chicken and lacked the pungency of the chili infused Orange Chicken found at Panda Express. I noticed some good looking curry chicken and also some black bean sauce options that aren't normally on offer at these type of places...something for next time because I will definitely be back if nothing else for the BBQ Pork. The generous portions are about double what you'd get at Panda/Pei Wei, and with the two entree plate only setting you back $10.76 this is one of the best and delicious deals in town. I noticed that while I sat there, it seemed that several regulars made their way -- a definite good sign. read more

Been wanting to try this place forever now and I finally made it today. The lady is super friendly and the lunch special is a great deal. For $9.99 you get 1 item combo with an eggroll and a drink. Not bad. However, I thought the egg roll was soggy and very doughy. I also got veggies instead of rice or noodles which I appreciate. However, the veggies were overcooked and also a little on the soggy side. They have a variety of main entrees to choose from but most of the protein I saw had a coating of fried batter which I would like to have just plain chicken, I don't need a batter. I tried the mushroom chicken which was tasty, just didn't need the batter. It was worth a try. :) read more

When the owner and his helper were serving it was awesome now they have a lady that serving like if we have all the time available plus the amount she serves I think it's not worth paying the amount that it is!! Now she serving like if it was Panda Express and for the same price. So if you skinny and feel you going to get full with what she serves and the time she takes to serve come over. You might sleep while she serving you plus you may get mad by she gives you. But come and try it out. As for the drinks do not get the boba hasnt been soaked in any syrup at ll and has zero flavor. Legit fast food Chinese! The chow mein noodles have that awesome fire-wok taste that is hard to find. The cabbage has a nice crunch, not too oily. Not just that but the two guys are super nice. I dined in with my kids, so I got to hear all the hearty hellos and how are yous from every single customer that walked in. It was pretty heartfelt and amazing. The kindness/bond between the customers and workers was palpable. I was like am I still in California? Where the heck am I? No snooty, negative people here. It was refreshing. I liked the black pepper chicken and string bean chicken. The orange chicken was more on the breaded side. My son liked the egg flower soup (egg drop soup?) That came out piping hot. As we were leaving, my daughter wanted their horchata smoothie with boba, and she loved it. 16 oz "small" for $4.95! You can't beat that nowadays. Their 1-item combo was $8.49 and 2-item combo was $9.99. The physical atmosphere is not the best, but their kindness makes you feel at home. When we feel like chinese this place rocks - They have some wonderful char siu pork, the orange chicken is fantastic, and the better half loves the mushroom chicken. I go for the standard steam rice but the better half loves their noodles and fried rice half n half for her sides. They also have the better half's favorite Almond cookies. We typically go for either the B or C combo depending on how hungry we are. being honest I have had days when I did a C combo, triple char siu pork and happily had 2 nights worth of dinner from one visit lol. I drive by this place from time to time. Today I decided to give it a try. I got one of the lunch combinations consisting of fried rice, chow mein and two lunch portion entrees, in this instance I chose a beef dish and a chicken dish. It's generously portioned and a good value at $9.99, but. . . . I found it to be overly salty and overly oily if that's the right word. I like my Americanized Chinese food to be quite a bit lighter. I finished about half of it and threw the rest in the trash because I knew I wouldn't go back to it as a left over. The service was prompt and friendly. I have no complaints. Ambience? It looked to me like most folks get their orders to go. The place used to be a Carl's Junior back in the day. My search for a good place in Tustin goes on.
