We haven't been here in ages especially dinning in so we were super excited at first. We did a lot of take outs during the pandemic and we just reheated the food when we got back home. Environment: it's a huge restaurant with big tables but even though it was busy, it didn't feel too crowded. Staff: though they were very busy they were kind and quick to respond. Food: We order our usuals like we did during the pandemic (ha gao, siu mai, shin roll, XLB, char siu in puff pastry, and rice noodle rolls. Everything was COLD except the shin roll and XLB. Like, the rice noodle rolls were so hard, I couldn't cut it with my chopsticks. I felt like if I threw it at the wall it would bounce back in perfect condition. It was very hard. 30min later, we also got super thirsty, too. It was super unfortunate experience. The dim sum were placed in the heated carts but I bet they're not on so they were cold. We ordered food for 80+ people for a Lunar New Year celebration last week. The team at China Town was great to work with, suggest options, and accommodated a last minute addition to the menu! Our party guests are still talking about the food! We had fried fish, bbq pork, fried rice, lo mein, sweet and sour pork, Mongolian beef, orange chicken, cashew chicken, Ma po tofu, veggie delight, and my favorite honey walnut shrimp! Chinatown Restaurant was on my list of local restaurants to visit, this week I was in the area and dropped by during lunch time, the few other times that I have attempted to visit they were so busy that I could not take the time to wait. Today I did not have any wait time at all, as you walk up to the Restaurant is it nestled within a shopping plaza with many other asian style restaurants, its right across from the Geico insurance building. The Interior is huge, I did not realze that they had so much seating space, they also have a lounge. I was greeted by a very friendly staff member, she quickly as me to select a seat. I was provided a lunch menu and a main menu. The lunch pricing was very reasonable at 14.00 a plate with one main item, rice of choice and a spring roll. I choose the General Tso Chicken with Fried rice, egg roll and hot tea. The portion was good sized, I asked if it was spicy, then ordered it medium just encase. The chicken was not spicy or as spicy as I thought it might be, thankfully they had a bottle of Sriracha on the table. Great flavor overall on the Chicken and the Fried rice. I really enjoyed the hot tea and the egg roll. I am looking forward to my next visit with my family so we can order a few items and share the meal. read more

Got a table for dim sum pretty easily at noon on a weekend. I will say unless you can read Mandarin, this probably isn't the place for you. Being American born, I don't read Mandarin well at all, but can usually get by at dim sum from photos, or speaking to the ladies with the push carts, but this place has an paper form (no pictures) and just awful translations of the dishes. Whether it's literal phonetic translations (wo kok) or just awful translations (chinese sushi or beef triple with ginger and onion), it took forever for me to google search my food. Apart from this hurdle, the food was also just alright. Like it is what it was supposed to be, but it wasn't particularly good. Service here was also pretty awful. I had to flag down 4 different people multiple times just to get some water. I probably won't be back unless the other options in town are worse, but I would imagine that's unlikely. read more

Having not been here in years, I sure miss the roaming dim sum carts! We had to order off the menu and the prices were a little higher than we're used to plus the food was just not as hot as I would have preferred. Overall, food was decent for dim sum. Hubby thought he ordered fried noodles but got chow fun instead. Luckily it tasted good because he doesn't like thick noodles. Their dimsum is solid! Looks like they might even do it all day too. No carts, you tick what you want on the piece of paper and then your food arrive promptly after. I noticed that their dimsum items are on the bigger side compared to other spots, making them great for sharing with a group. We got a wide array of things but the top three for me were the Shin Roll, the BBQ Rice Roll, and the Shrimp and Chive Dumpling. I loved how filled these were. The BBQ pork in the rice roll was so tender and flavorful. The shrimp was also super fresh and bouncy. Definitely would go back for these. Very good food was somewhat empty once I got here but picked up after a while, service was cool, and the atmosphere was very basic. They ficus more on the quality of food verses decoration and all the other hype. It reminds me of Chin's Garden back in Detroit, MI, off 6 mile and Southfield Freeway service drive. Came back to eat here for the first time in at least 5 years, or maybe longer. (I am pretty sure this restaurant had a different name at that time). Back then they were still running around with the carts and you could see and pick and choose what you wanted to eat; now you select your dimsum items -- or larger entrees -- off the menu and they bring out what you order. It was a mix. A few things came out to the table very hot and steaming and most were just warm/hot (so on the plus side, no danger of burning your mouth on the first bite and regretting it the rest of the meal). I don't think it was worth the price and I don't plan to return anytime soon. Having lived in Hong Kong for 5 months and growing up eating Cantonese food, I always yearn to find good Cantonese food as my comfort food. While the sweet and sour pork flavors were right, the sauce was a little too runny and thin for my liking. The Japanese Tofu with Mushrooms were quite delicious, but it was a bit overwhelming with the generous amount of broccoli that came with the dish. East Harbor up the road is closed to upgrade so asked the web for dim sum nearby. Chinatown restaurant is relatively new so because I wanted "made to order" plates I drove the extra 5 miles. Not inexpensive (no surprise), but overpriced for quality. You order by checking items off a sheet. Items came unusually fast for made to order. I got stuffed eggplant with shrimp, taro puffs, stewed tofu wrapped pork and shrimp rolls. Shrimp rolls came congealed stiff and luke cold, the taro puffs looked xcrispy but upon biting deep into it was grossed out by the warm peanut buttery glop yuk. Sent back along with the shrimp role. They just microwaved the puff and over steamed the role. The stuffed tofu skins were really nicely hot. Stuffed eggplant was barely hot and flavorless- thank goodness there was chili oil and soy. Going to the restroom I saw where all the waiters staged the Dim sum. Nothing from the dimsum menu came from the kitchen, but from holding carts. Very disappointing for $32. Cannot wait until East Harbor reopens. read more

I came for dim sum on a Sunday. Although you order your dishes vs. roll carts, it's not necessarily "made to order." It seems like the kitchen just keeps the carts stocked, and the staff just collects your order from those carts. Some of the carts did not seem warmed (I.e the steamed dishes), and the metal trays were cold to the touch. The food itself was not cold, but I could see how quality would really decrease if you came on a slow day and the food is sitting around longer. The food overall was good--not great. The har gow wrapper was too thick and slightly smushy. The XLB was surprisingly good and had a good amount of juice despite not being very warm. The items not on the dim sum menu are made to order. The salt and pepper squid had good flavor, but the squid was rings and tentacles vs. thicker cuts. Service is pretty fast. Decided to try this place out after looking for a good dim sum spot! Saw it on tiktok and thought why not give it a try with my family. We come from california, and a lot of food spots in oregon don't really compare to there, so we try not to have high expectations. We arrived right at opening on a Friday, and were seated immediately. We were given our team and ordered quick. We asked to keep one of the menus because we typically order our first round and then order a different second round. While waiting, one of the workers was yelling at our server in front of us because he left the menu with us. He asked again if we wanted to keep it and we said yes. The lady wasn't too happy about that for some reason. Our food came out fairly quickly. Taste wise was pretty good. We ordered shui mai, har gaw, rice noodles with shrimp, spare ribs, tripe, egg tart, and the sweet rice cake. Our favorites out of everything were the egg tart and rice cake. Now the reason for our 3 stars was because at checkout, we paid with card and one of the workers were standing there while we signed off and chose tip. We decided to pay tip with cash and when we chose "No tip" on the machine, the lady quickly said "no tip?!". I thought in this day and age we aren't asking this these. She also should NOT have assumed we weren't going to tip. This very much soured our experience. I understand that restaurants and servers deserve a tip but asking and assuming in such a rude manner is not the way to do it. mediocre dimsum, they were served cold or room temp even though the trays had some steam, not sure how long they keep the food hot but when taken a bite, the core was not hot. deep fried foods and egg tarts were also cold like they've been sitting there idling for a while, did not taste fresh. Dim sum must be eaten hot to enjoy the fine arts in its making and to truly taste all the juiciness from the meat, this includes deep fried foods too, they were also not hot so if it felt more greasy. pricing varies depending on what you order. some are not worth the high cost as compared to instinct ones to purchase from asian grocery stories, however if it was all served hot it might be different too. it was a bit unappealing and unappetizing to get their chili oil scooped our from a bucket that's been left open and no lid for closure. Then it just stays on a cart against the back wall and even the oil has been sitting there for a while as the top layer is more opaque and just yeah old 2/ greasy appearance We asked for our dimsum to be reheated and even then, it was still not very hot. Best dim sum I have found in the area. Good news! The restaurant operates smoothly with half set aside for take out and the other half as a restaurant. It is set up with tables for two, four, or large families. I am a recent transplant from the San Francisco area which is full of great Chinese food in Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose.This place has many similar selections that are as good as Any I have tried. Tip ignore some of the style choices such as the hot tea served in paper cups and food brought to table on metal rolling trays. You are waiting for fresh cooked items and not food warmed up so be patient! You are there for the food! We went for the dim sum so did not order traditional dishes delivered to nearby tables like cashew chicken or chow Mein or coconut prawns or honey shrimp. They all smelled delicious and came out hot and steaming and smelling yummy. Our table ordered soup dumplings, har gow, char Siu bao, Siu mai and sesame balls and egg tarts. Each item was served fresh, hot, tasty and so delicious we ordered more. The soup dumplings have very thin wrappers with broth and the meat. They were super hot and well seasoned with plenty of broth as compared to the highly rated Michelin starred option at the local mall. The har gow (steamed shrimp dumplings) were full of al dente fresh shrimp and so delicious. The steamed char Siu bao were sticky soft steamed dough with the bbq pork inside. And yes we needed a second order on this one. Hot and well seasoned perfection. Shrimp and pork Siu mai was just like my nanny made when I was a child. She taught me to make these and so I'm pretty picky. These were great. I will order again. For desert we each had a sesame ball and custard egg tart. They were warm and fresh and tat is rare for these delicacies. I NEVER post this kind of detail but this place deserves it. The decor is not special and the location is not special but the food is. Our waitress Jenny took our orders and I appreciated her humor. We will become regulars here. Next day I ordered delivery and enjoyed the har gow and egg rolls. We really enjoyed this place. We went on a Sunday around 2 and it was surprisingly busy but it was kind of fun to be in the bustling environment. We had to wait a bit to order but once we ordered the food came fast. Everything was really good and we branched out and tried a bunch of new things and things we didn't know what they were and everything was excellent. It was also more affordable than we were expecting. Overall a great experience, the only thing is that I wish they did the cart service thing instead of taking your order and bringing food. read more
