Piece of chicken, spit it out to see this travesty

Upon my first bit I about broke my jaw on a giant piece of bone in the General Pso's chicken. Pretty pissed at this insane hazard. Had to dissect every piece from there on out.

Got the General Taos chicken. Good portion size, pretty cheap. My new go to Chinese place.

Fastest take out West of the Mississippi! Is this the best Chinese food in the city? Oh, heck no! But the food is pretty edible for fast food Chinese, the portions are huge, prices are great and the staff are nice. They also do delivery! A couple of minor annoyances: -For dine in customers, they serve the food on styrofoam plates. I see room for the use of more environmentally-friendly materials. -On their paper menu, they have a "skinny" section where they claim that dishes with shrimp and chicken are cholesterol free. Um, there are no cholesterol free critters on the earth. If you want cholesterol free, you have to go vegetarian. They do have plenty of veg options. Overall, though, I really like this place for what it does, because it serves a purpose and does it pretty darn well.

I had never visited this restaurant before even though I've been to Blue Hawk. I met a group of…read morefriends for ramen. I didn't order ramen, I ordered tempura Brussel sprouts and a JINYA bun with pork. I also ordered rice. I thoroughly enjoyed the tempura Brussel Sprouts. They were perfectly fried in tempura coating, fresh and yummy. The JINYA bun with pork was like it's supposed to be. But the bread ofcourse, was like a soggy piece of white bread. I enjoyed it as something new to eat. The white rice kept me full. I traded 2 Brussel Sprouts for a piece of Tempura Chicken. That was as delicious as the Brussel Sprouts. The next visit I'm getting Brussel Sprouts and chicken. I also had a serving of ramen noodles. I had troubles trying to eat it lady like. Atleast they gave us a spoon. This is a very interesting restaurant. I'll eat there if I'm in the area. I found the service excellent as well.

I can imagine ramen tasting like this in a Japanese back alley noodle shop without a gaijin in sight. The space is sleek and comfortable. The server was helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. Even the broccoli I ordered on the side was perfectly steamed, without any additions. Very tasty in the ramen bowl. We also got the mini taco appetizer. While delicious, can't say you're getting a good bang for your buck there. A great experience, overall.

Tucked away in a small corner of Lenexa, Monkey King Chinese BBQ & Noodle Restaurant feels like one…read moreof the most authentic Chinese spots in the Kansas City metro area. Their menu consists of a lot of dishes, and some are quite unique .. you don't usually see items like bird's nest dishes at most Chinese restaurants around here except for maybe Bolings. Me and my husband visited on a Saturday night around 8 pm and really devoured our meal. The menu can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but you honestly can't go wrong with stir fries at any Chinese restaurant. For appetizers, we ordered chicken egg rolls, which were hefty and filling. For the main course, I ordered the chicken in black bean stir fry, and my husband got the shrimp Kung Pao chicken stir fry. We paired both with steamed rice. The black bean chicken was rich and earthy, with that deep, slightly funky flavor from the fermented black beans. It was very umami, salty and complimented nicely with the fresh, crisp vegetables and well-cooked chicken. I really liked it. The shrimp Kung Pao was spicy and tangy, with perfectly cooked shrimp (the fried shrimp covering was chefs kiss) and crispy veggies. Overall, we really enjoyed the food. The egg rolls were about $4 for two pieces, and the stir fries were around $17+ each. The portions are quite large compared to other places in the area, so the pricing seemed reasonable. For 2 main course dishes your bill could easily reach up to $40. Otherwise, The restaurant was clean, the staff was kind, and service was quick. It also wasn't too crowded when we visited. I would rate the service 4/5, mainly because we had to ask for silverware, condiments, and tissues separately. The food, though, is definitely a 5/5. Highly recommended! I will definitely return to have more dishes like beef chow fun, the soups and last, but not least BIRDS NEST!!

The standout dish was definitely the bird's nest--it had the best flavor overall. The duck was a bit too fatty, and the calamari was heavily battered and greasy.
