Chinatown Restaurant is a quiet and cozy chinese restaurant that features antique artwork, colorful decor and formal traditional clothing on display. When I was there, chinese opera music was playing. I was told Chinatown Restaurant has been in business for about 30 years. It looks like it's been here alot longer. I was there at around 430pm on a Thursday. It seemed like only one man was running the whole restaurant. He took my order, made my drink, served other customers, then went in the back. I ordered Wor Won Ton Soup and Fried Chicken Wings. My Wor Won Ton Soup had a thin broth and was mostly zucchini and mushrooms. It had 9 dumplings, 2 shrimps, bamboo shoots, and some greens. It needed some soy sauce for seasoning. It was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. The fried wings satisfied my fried food craving. Deep fried and crispy! Came with a sweet 'n sour dip with some chinese mustard. I would like to return and try their lunch plates. I like this restaurant's old school vibe. I was in the area, for Journal Land at Hall of the Above. We were craving some Chinese food, so I walked a block over to grab some food. So we got the lunch specials: Lemon Chicken with fried rice and Orange Chicken with Chow Mein. Here's what was good: The orange chicken and the chow mein. What a little gem in downtown Petaluma! Ordering Chinese take-out can not be any easier on their website. Ordered 1 chicken fried rice, 1 prawns with mixed vegetables, 1 eggplant with garlic sauce. The flavors are all there but not overly salty or overly oily like some chinese take-out can be. It tasted more like a chinese home cooked meal. Ordered takeout on Saturday afternoon. The older man who was working there was very unfriendly. When I asked for napkins he gave us one each and only one package of soya sauce for the fried chicken rice which is the worst fried rice I ever had, it was mostly just plain rice. My new go to for Chinese food! Hands down the best Chinese cuisine me and my partner have ever had. We ordered the egg rolls, chow fun, sesame chicken, and mu shu all of which were fantastic! The flavors were excellent, especially in the mu shu which blew both of us away. Plus, the dining atmosphere was very cozy and relaxed with gorgeous decor and light fixtures. I used to be loyal to City Chopsticks but this charming, old-school Chinese restaurant on Kentucky Street is just as good! The Beef with Broccoli and Chicken with Cashew Nuts is Absolutely Delicious! Our ALWAYS dish is the Wor Won Ton Soup which is a huge step-up from ordinary Won Ton -- with dumplings, shrimp, chicken, and vegetables -- perfect for a cold, wet night. And their Combination Chow Fun is excellent (try it, you'll like it). The food: Salt and pepper fish was well seasoned, not greasy, and presented satisfactorily. The vegetable fried rice could have used more seasoning but a little soy sauce fixed it right up. The place: Ambiance was nice, pleasant lighting and spotlessly clean. The service: Friendly enough but not really attentive. Water glasses didn't get refilled and she didn't check in at all until we were obviously done. There's a crab Rangoon w each one and it taste SOOOO good. Sweet and Sour chicken has the perfect taste. Chinese food is my comfort food. I've tried most of the Chinese places in this area and this one comes out on top. Authentic home made not previously frozen egg rolls, nice and crispy. The price for their lunch special is like stepping back in time before Covid and inflation. Straight up the best deal around. I had the kung pao chicken and it was great! With just enough spice to make the flavor pop. The carpet could definitely use a replacement, the owner is a no nonsense down to business type but efficient and effective. My boyfriend and I are regulars here, and even though we've moved to Sacramento we STILL make time for a visit to this restaraunt because we love it so much. My grandfather is Chinese so I am very picky about chinese food.... This is the best you'll find anywhere. The food is traditional and delicious. The hot and sour soup is mind-blowingly good. Even if the food wasn't as good as it is, I would give 5 stars alone for the people. The lady and her husband are so kind and sweet. I feel like I'm at my grandpa's every time I'm at this restaraunt. Picked up takeout at 5PM, orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, chow mein, and crab cream cheese wontons. The pork and chicken was so dry it was inedible, was definitely not cooked today (my guess would be 2-3 days ago). The crab wontons were bomb, light and crunchy, and delicious. Chow mein was decent. I decided to give this restaurant another try and was very pleasantly surprised. The hot and sour soup was very good, the best hot and sour I've had in Petaluma. I ordered the monogloin beef with fried rice and loved that as well! The beef was tender and the flavor was great. My Dad ordered the Szechuan chicken and the flavor on that was also really good. You can also ask them to make the fried dishes crunchier or less crunchy. Chinatown is more than a place to sit and enjoy a delicious Chinese meal, it's a place where you come to get treated like family. A girlfriend of mine lived a few blocks from Chinatown and came here at least once a week for over 2 years. That says a lot since she gets out a lot and for her to dedicate one night a week to this place it's just got to be good! Getting greeted by your first name and served a Tsingtao as you sit down doesn't hurt either. I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food but we all came here for a friends Birthday last week and had a grand old time. I can't stress enough how friendly and attentive the staff is; we received our first order within 5 minutes and our drink order within 3. The sesame chicken was by far the best dish but I looooved the cashew chicken as well. Their pot stickers when dipped in the hot sauce is to die for. They're perfectly cooked with a huge burst of flavor in every bite, not too chewy or filled with mystery meat like some other places. Delicious. The orange chicken was great, although spicier than I expected, not that that's a bad thing. Pork fried rice was good, but pretty average. The fried wontons filled with cream cheese were THE BEST. I wish there were more than six per order. The place was cheap, the food was made fast and hot, and it was pretty darn good. I look forward to trying more things on the menu. Or, you know, just sticking to the cream cheese wontons. read more

Oh Chinatown restaurant. A quick new favorite. Affordable and lightening quick service. Truly fast, fast, fast service. I mean, I came in for lunch one day and was literally done within about 20 minutes. But I tend to savoir my food when I go out so that's not the only impressive thing about this place. Yes, Mongolian beef is nummy. I like the Mu Shu Pork as well. The hot and sour soup is wonderful too. It's got small shrimp, mushrooms, and the other usuals. What I really loved was the house made hot sauces. OMG, look at my pics. Essentially one is a typical rooster style pulpy red chili garlic kind and the other is a thinly shaved sarrano and garlic pickle that I couldn't stop eating ... and yes, it promptly went into my hot and sour soup. So much so, that my Mongolian beef tasted pleasantly sweet. Lol. If you want it just ask for "hot sauce" not just "hot mustard". The sweet and sour sauce is house made too. I tried asking how it was made but the waiter just said he didn't know so I'm guessing the cook didn't want to share the recipe. My last trip I also ordered the pot stickers. They are the thick doughy kind that are typical authentic Chinese. They were good and I liked the ginger, garlic, sweet sauce that came with them but I tend to prefer thinner dough like gyoza. Not sure if I'll get them again as they were really filling. I may if I just order something like soup, but if I got an entree, unless there were a lot of people with me - not so much. The service is wonderful and the price point is affordable with a nice portion size. The thing I loved most? You can order any entree and add something like $3.50 to it and make it a meal. Wonton strip, soup, salad, rice/chow mein, and a slice of orange and a fortune cookie to round it out. A lot for only something like $10 to $12.
