Outstanding! I was craving PF Changs but we really didn't want to make the drive all the way to Marin to go there. I'm glad we didn't! Chinatown was amazing; food was hot and fresh, so flavorful and the portions were perfect. I got the honey walnut shrimp and OMG! They win. Ordered through DoorDash and unfortunately, the DoorDash delivery driver decided not to drop the food off or delivered to wrong address so we didn't get our food. Since we were Craving Chinese ( and got a refund from door dash) we decided to try for round 2. Placed the same order and immediately got a call from an employee asking if we meant to order the same thing twice. I explained the situation and she was so apologetic, Even though it wasn't her fault! When the food was delivered (to the right house this time) the delivery driver told me that the employee explained the situation to him and she wanted to make sure to get our order in right away so we could get it ASAP. We found this place fairly recently, and we are so glad we did. We've either taken friends there (from England, Canada and Arizona) or had it delivered -- when delivery is available. Every one to a person loved it. We ALWAYS get the Wor Won Ton soup which is the best of about four other Chinese places we've gone to. So far we've tried about 12 different dishes and most have been outstanding (the pork chow mein was the only okay dish as there were far more noodles than meat, but still very tasty). Couldn't recommend Chinatown more highly -- and such nice people too. read more

This has become THE Friday Night / Date Night go-to for hubby and me. It always surprises us how quiet this place is on Friday nights given how incredible the food is. I figure it's downtown so busy at lunch, but we've never had to wait. The service is excellent and the beer is always COLD. Favorites: The Hot and Sour Soup, Salt and Pepper Calamari, and String Bean Chicken - all are easy five-star choices. Four stars go to the Combination Chow Fun (it was good, but not remarkably better than any I've had other places). The Hunan Chicken was also very good, with a flavorful sauce and plent of peanuts. The other dishes we've had there are all three star. Combination Fried Rice and Cashew Nut Chicken are about average among the other Chinese places we've eaten. If I had guests in town and they wanted Chinese, I would take them here without hesitation. read more

I was a very loyal customer to the previous owners. Love Wendi, Lisa and papa. It has been a while since it changed hands, and I moved out of the area. Due to an illness of a friend, I was visiting Petaluma and I sprang for lunch. I found the website menu inaccurate, but the when I made the order over the phone we worked it out. We had several items which I really liked. The hot and sour soup was excellent, as was the asparagus chicken, and Happy Family. The only thing I did not like was they put fake crab in the Happy Family. It would be better to leave it out. The biggest test was that I was providing lunch to loyal past customers and we all agreed that we would go back to Chinatown even though the people that we love are not longer operating it. read more

We just got dinner delivered and it was by far the worst Chinese food we've ever eaten. The fried prawns looked like they got ran over by a semi and all's you could taste was the breading. The pot stickers were uneatable. The kung pao chicken was suspect at best. The Szechuan shrimp and spring rolls were the only thing either one of us could stomach and now I just hope we don't get sick from it. We spent $70.00 on a Mother's Day meal and it was a disaster! 70% if it ended up in the garbage. We called to inform them of the bad experience and got no offer for a refund. Disclaimer: My great-uncle owns this place. (daaamn. i have to put a disclaimer on every freakin time i review a chinese restaurant, b/c my fam's in the business!) Don't matta none though! My whole family comes here for Thanksgiving and X-mas every year and we grub down. Their food is super authentic and they use very fresh ingredients. They sometimes anglo-cize it a little bit for the community (Petaluma, sorry...) but the clams in black bean sauce speak for themselves. They've been dealing with some racist punk teenagers lately who order, refuse to pay, and then shout racial epithets. My poor relatives are all bummed! So come in and give 'em some love and support. Before you read my review, keep in mind that Chinatown just underwent new ownership (they have a "Grand Opening" sign in front of their restaurant). I live two blocks from this restaurant, and we have ordered takeout from this restaurant for years, and we've always been happy with the quality of the food. However, after trying the food under the new ownership, the recipes have changed drastically, and not for the better. The food tastes very cheap, and looks cheap as well. Our favorite dishes from Chinatown used to be the Mongolian Beef and Walnut Shrimp. However, the Mongolian Beef under the new ownership was tough (compared to the tender meat they had before) and filled with mostly mushrooms and onions. The Walnut shrimp was rubbery and chewy, and had a very light glaze of sauce on it that mostly soaked into the soggy batter. We also ordered dumplings and chow mein--the chow mein was colorless and the dumplings were deflated and tasted somewhat sour. Overall, not a good experience. The service is still good (as far as takeout goes), and I'm hoping that the quality of the food improves. Maybe we'll try again in a few months. Until then, we'll take our business to Hunan Village. read more

This restaurant really needs two reviews, one for the food and a separate one for the physical environment. I would give the food 4+ stars. The flavors are fantastic and often unique. For example, the Mongolian Beef includes slices of flavorful yellow onion instead of scalions, the common ingredient. Their General Chicken is absolutely unique, the recipe a chopped chicken stew featuring sliced water chestnuts, chopped baby corn, diced red peppers, ginger and garlic; the vinegar adding an extra bite. We have sampled several dishes and always the sauces shine. The only complaint we have on the food side is that they do not take enough care chopping the chicken and we have found occasional gristle in dishes like Mongolian Chicken (not on the menu but always available) or Kung Pao Chicken. While their pot stickers rate a 4 the sauce they serve it with them rates 5 stars as does their ginger salad dressing. Their soups are outstanding, flavorful and interesting. Their portions are generous and you cannot go wrong with a lunch special which includes rice, salad and soup for less than $6! The environment of the restaurant is somewhat dour and sometimes the smell of cleaner can be overpowering. While we appreciate the extra effort to keep the place clean some sensitivity to the olfactory experience would help the restaurant. Also, selecting more modern background music, at least on occasion, would brighten the atmosphere dramatically. The owners are very nice, hard working people. read more

If you go here you HAVE TO order the Cream Cheese Wontons I've been ordering from them and eating there for 5 years now Located in downtown, great seating, quiet and good for large groups or a date. Staff if extremely nice and friendly. They'll tell you their delivery time is always 30-40 minutes but expect maybe 10-15. Fast service, amazing food, great variety. Everything they make is made-to-order, so no worrying about mass amounts of food seating under heat lamps and being served to you, even delivery foods are made only when you order it. My friend had been asking me to join her here for a few weeks. She is a regular here and loves it. So finally we went, and I was very happy I did. We ordered from the lunch specials. Came with salad and soup and was delicious. Food arrived very fast, so if you are on a lunch break, it is worth going here time- wise. I am not a huge chinese food fan, but this place has me changing my mind on that. First time here, but not the last. Service friendly, attentive, and fast. Highly recommend. We tried this thinking it would be much better. Delivery arrived 30 minutes ahead of scheduled time. We ordered the Peking Family Dinner for 3 (eggrolls, mongolian beef, cashew chicken, sweet and sour pork) and crab cheese wontons plus garlic eggplant. Only the mongolian beef and the crab wontons were on point. The sweet and sour pork was WAY overcooked - dry and tasteless, although the sweet and sour sauce itself was good. The eggrolls were meh at best. The cashew chicken was a FAR CRY from even the worst cashew chicken I've ever had before. Simply pretty much tasteless - but not to surpass the fried rice, which was EXACTLY tasteless. The garlic eggplant was plus several other veggies and missing a whole lotta eggplant. This place is the closest to real Chinese food that you can get north of the Golden Gate. My family and I have been coming here for over 20 years. In fact I can distinctly remember sitting at the front window table (our favorite place to sit) and being so young that my legs still swung underneath the chair. This place has amazing food. They are consistent, fairly priced, and the portions are incredibly generous. The lighting is intimate, and the noise level rarely reaches a dull roar. I love this place. This place isn't fancy and it isn't the place to bring a first date. I am really disappointed in my recent experiences with Chinatown. I have been a loyal customer for 10 years. Even when they changed ownership, though the food took while to get back up to par, I continued to give them my business. In the last two weeks I have called three times to order delivery and they have been "too busy" to deliver. Last I checked this was a delivery and and take out restaurant. And they have never been to o busy to deliver to me, ever. At least, it has been for the last 10 years or so. I don't think I will be calling them back. We love this place. We have been looking for a place with Beef and Black Mushrooms and found it here. It is really good - crunchy water chestnuts, beef is cut carefully and is super tender, the black mushrooms are marvelous. The Sweet and Sour Chicken is really good - chunky veggies, well fried chicken (sometimes a little over fried but that happens) and the sauce is great. Delicious food almost hidden in downtown Petaluma. If it wasn't for a big wooden sign hanging from the eaves out front, it would be easy to walk right past on your way to nearby antique shops. We went for Father's Day lunch and had the place nearly to ourselves, which means we received truly great service - although I was left with the impression that service is generally excellent, anyway. We had Mongolian beef, ginger beef, sweet and sour pork, potstickers, honey walnut shrimp (with nice, large prawns), and a healthier than usual take on general chicken - stir-fried rather than deep-fried. We ordered from a lunch menu that is available seven days a week. Roughly $6.50 a plate, including a bowl of soup and a tasty, simple salad. A terrific value. Have eaten here several times over the years. Nothing extra special, just very good at the basics. Located in downtown Petaluma, so convenient if you're doing shopping. Interior is clean and very typical for a Chinese restaurant. Owners and staff are super friendly. Service is good, food arrives quickly. Prices are typically reasonable. I've been going to this place since I was in my mother's womb. I love this place. The people are so nice and they know me well. I'm a vegetarian and they are willing to make the Hot and Sour soup vegetarian for me. They always cook everything the way I like it. I love the Hot & Sour soup, the Braised Bean Curd, Rice, and the Salad (which has amazing dressing). My Grandma gets the Mongolian Beef, which is spicy and she always needs coffee after. She sometimes gets the Sweet & Sour pork and the almond or cashew chicken. The pot stickers, the egg rolls, and the cream cheese wantons were also really good.
