(Jul 2026) We were debating, really, it's true, between plain comfort food and familiar Tex-Mex food. The Timberline Cafe is a diner. On the map, the Taqueria Resendiz is right next door. Perfect! In person, they are combined into one restaurant! Even more perfect! We had a moderately-spicy michelada and a tequila-less "wine-margarita", plus lemonades, and we read all the menus. We all ordered Mexican! Several kinds of open and folded tacos, fajitas, chip & salsa. All fresh and hot and tasty. One of few venues that would take reservations of this size group. They have a good amount of indoor seating. We sat on the umbrellaed patio, near the musician, just around the corner of the bar from games like cornhole. They were busy, but service was attentive. Many of us had craft beers and cocktails. Everyone was pleased, but i could not list all the beverages for you. We had at least one yummy fresh arugula salad with sirloin cooked-to-order and a lot of flavorful bacon, blue cheese crumbles, green onion, tomatoes, balsamic glaze, and thick "Texas" toast. We shared a number of the many appetizers: Crispy-coated sweet-chili Thai Shrimp were rather small but quite tasty. The tray of nachos was a glorious mess of beans, sauces and crema, mixed melty cheeses, olives, and meat ... i think we got the rich ground "buffalo". The "buffalo balls" were even messier: meatballs in deep gravy over mashed potatoes smothered in sautéed onions and mushrooms. We had "chicken "bites" with two of their yummy flavorings. The soft pretzels and cheese were long thick almost-loaves. And i completely lost track of the mains: several of their loaded burgers and overloaded tacos. The star was the 12oz medium-rare ribeye, topped with herb butter & demi glacé, loaded garlic redskin mashed potatoes, & thick garlic toast. This was a great immersion in great food, drink, ant atmosphere. The $44 ribeye was one of the top-two steaks we had during our trip. (July 2026). Pro tip: every steak is town was good, even the bargains you can find with a little hunting. But be sure to pay a little more once or twice to get the best.

Maybe 15 mins and the place was packed. We were seated at a bar-like table between the actual bar seating and tables. The waitress was nice and had personality but was a bit stressed out and a little testy after we asked about our food 30+ mins after ordering it. Even the drinks took a long time to be served. I finally gave up and ran to the restroom...of course the food came as soon as I left. It works that way a lot for me. lol The drinks were good - the food was pretty good. Prices are expensive here, but pretty much on par with the rest of the restaurants in town. It's a tourist town in high season and they all know it. We determined not to come back for the next day's meals based on the slow speed of service and try different places in town instead.

It was dark enough, with casino games if you want. We felt at home with a whiskey and a beer. In fact, as we simmered down from a long day, we realized they have a full bar of all kinds of spirits and more than a few craft beers. And a full steakhouse menu, too! Busy, Fast…read more Our friends were scattered all day in smaller groups, and weather was iffy for an evening outdoor concert, so 8 of us (and half the people visiting West Yellowstone) decided to try fire whole barbecue for dinner. (Jul 2026) The restaurant's parking lot felt crowded, but we found a space halfway back. Plus, there's parking on the street. Really, everything is close in West Yellowstone, so some of us just walked over from our lodging. At 6:30 PM on a Saturday (July 2026), the line was all the way from the counter to the door, and it seemed like every indoor seat was taken! The moment we saw one of the tables start to leave, some of us landed at it , so pretty quickly half of us had a place. Then through an indoor window, we saw people leaving the enclosed side patio. Bingo! Yahtzee! As a table for six cleared, we noticed the adjacent table was also close to finishing and in a moment, we had two end-to-end picnic tables, enough for our entire party to sit together! This was good timing, because in those few minutes the outer lobby had filled with people waiting in line and the outside tables of 4 or six were also nearly full. Among us all, we had almost everything on the menu: pork ribs, bbq chicken, beef, brisket, pulled-pork, coleslaw, potato salad, mac and cheese, beans, corn on the cob, thick fries. All of meats were tender and juicy, full of their own flavor and well seasoned with perfect smoky slightly-sweet sauce. All of the sides had the right amount of bait and the right amount of tenderness, nicely, salted, and seasoned in flavoring, not overly-seasoned. The tables had at least two kinds of barbecue sauce, plus your ketchup and mustard. This was mighty fine barbecue, smoked in-house daily! Every one of us found a dish that we wanted and loved. And in a town full of kitschy western themes, this place was the real deal. Sure, a wood cabin look, picnic tables, and walls full of decor. But not overly new and polished. This felt like the real thing. This is a live, real, every day BBQ. And it was right across the street from the park where there was a free concert that evening! A word to the wise: There was a sign in the small lobby ready to set up: First come first served, until they sell out!
