Wow this place is a good time! Was seated immediately and it was just about a full house, and with an amazing view! I ordered a cup of clam chowder and Brian was kind enough to bring me a taste of the Manhattan since I had never had it before. It wa amazing. Maybe I'm eating off a different menu, but as I dine at different seafood restaurants around the PNW, Chinooks always comes out on top. Their fish and chips are the best I tasted from Newport, Oregon to Bellingham, Washington. My wife and I crave Chinook's clam chowder, tasting pretenders up and down the Pacific coast. Chinook's wins the "best of" prize. Maybe I'm missing something or delusional, but I usually hate chain restaurants or corporate anything. I owe allegiance to no one and never "join" to be accepted or climb some capitalist ladder. Homogeny is not my game. Yet, Chinook's seafood tastes good and seems fresh, right off the boat, even though they are a part of the PNW Anthony's chain of restaurants. The impression I got from Chinook's is... that it's all about big servings (often involving seafood), great customer service, and it caters mostly to... a slightly older generation than mine. By older I mean... A lot of the people having lunch here that day looked like they were enjoying retirement. That's not a bad thing - just... something to maybe think about before you go. The fried oysters and fries (and onion rings??) were very filling, and well... if I loved fried things, they would have probably been all kinds of fantastic to me. This was my first time trying fried oysters and... I learned that I like my oysters to STAY raw. Garnishes are fine. Frying them is... not. Just thinking about that lunch reminds me of the food coma and desire for a nap! In any case... If you're looking for great service and great big servings of fried/well-cooked Pacific NW cuisine, this might be the spot you're dreaming about. Food for the price wasn't too bad, could've been better. there was lots of people that arrived after our party with larger numbers and ordered after us and still got theirs before us. so the service wasn't fantastic. environment was good tho. Chinook's is one of the places we think of when we crave good seafood for our meals. Personally, I particularly like this place because the food is fresh (being around the Salmon Bay area helps with that!), the prices are reasonable, service is attentive and, best of all, I never have to worry about parking situation like other restaurants in Seattle area. Whenever our friends from out of town come over for a visit and ask about trying seafood in a casual-ish restaurant, we always think of Chinook's as one of the top options in our mind. I've been there at least 3-4 times over the past year and had anything from fish/seafood (various types) and chips, chowder, taco, or fillet steak type and everything tasted good. One of my most memorable dishes were fried razor clams..my gosh..they were so yummy..not too soft and chewy and, yet still have some fresh crunch when I bit into it. I also loved their complementary bread...it was a bit buttery at the bottom but I loved their bread's soft texture, buttery smell and the little spice it had on top as well. Our recent visits we also got to try their seasonal desserts (the other times, we were too full to even think of having desserts!), the huckleberry slump and loved it. It was a nice huckleberry compote (not too overly sweet) with a warm baked pie crust covered it, and topped with vanilla ice cream. If you are looking for a casual, not too upscale sit down place for seafood with good quality, definitely keep Chinook's in mind. We've been coming back to this place ever since we discovered it a few years ago. Also, ask for a seat next to the pier...the seating gives you a cool view into the pier while waiting for your food, too! read more

After hiking around and watching the salmon swimming upstream at Ballard (Hiram M. Chittenden) Locks, my family and I worked up a pretty big appetite. Luckily, Chinook's was a highly recommended place to eat on Yelp, so we figured let's check it out! We came at a perfect time and just beat the lunch crowd. What a beautiful restaurant. I recommend asking to sit next to the window for the amazing views. The food here is really good. I ordered their Garlic Baked Prawns Scampi and man oh man, each bite just bursted with so much flavor from the garlic butter, it literally melted in my mouth. I also tried their Oysters, very fresh and tasty. My dad tried their Blue Plate Special, which is like the chef's special of the day, which was their baked Halibut with veggies... I tried a bite and it was very delicious. Other dishes that we tried: Mahi Mahi tacos, they were a tad on the dry side but still seasoned well; and as an appetizer, we tried their mussels and clams, this was cooked perfectly and served in a nice pot. This restaurant seems to be suffering a bit at this point in the pandemic. Our waiter was very nice but slow, with drinks and dishes coming out at a lethargic pace. The menu is limited at this point, with some of the best items missing. The spicy salmon tacos weren't spicy, the fish and chips had too few fish and too many chips on balance. The chowder is excellent, as always. And the salon was quite good. I hope this restaurant comes back strong soon. read more

Visited this place yesterday on a hunt for fresh oysters, unfortunately, they do not have any fresh oysters so we were a bit disappointed. Our sweet and nice server offered us bread while we figure out what we want to order, but we are sooo set on getting fresh oysters that we didnt really have any appetite for anything else. We ended up trying their fried oysters since its the only oysters they have. It was good but it wasnt what we were craving for. The oysters were breaded nicely and the oysters were soft and not fishy at all. The sauces they served with it went well with the fried oysters too! Chinooks is a fun, older style seafood restaurant on the Fisherman's terminal in interbay. The inside is decorated in this cool tile that evokes a fish market and there's a great view of the water and all of the boats coming and going. It's not super hip or anything but if you're looking for a more traditional style seafood restaurant to take your parents to this place is perfect. We shared the grilled halibut (it was a special) and the blackened salmon Caesar between two people and the portion sizes were perfect. I also started off with a few oysters which were delicious and tasted super fresh. The halibut tasted amazing but maybe could have done with a little bit less time on the grill. It came with asparagus which was delicious and perfectly done and some so so red potatoes. It was a bit pricy but it did taste very fresh so I suppose that's to be expected. The dressing on the salmon Caesar was good, nice and lemony, which I think goes great with the fish. The portion on the salmon was a little small though for the price. read more

They have a blue plate special for $19.99, includes amazing clam chowder. The ceviche was really fresh and a healthy portion. I was in Seattle for a few days, and was looking for some traditional seafood fare. Chinook's seemed to be the closest near where I was staying. So, I took the trek over and before even going into the restaurant, I was greeted by an amazing view of the oceanfront, scattered with a plentiful amount of boats. The bread was focaccia, seasoned with margarine and herbs, or more simple put: amazing. The wings were covered in a tangy and slight sweet wing sauce, accompanied with a side of blue cheese dressing and celery. The star of the show was the mussel and clams, steamed in their own juices with lemon slices. They were extremely fresh and oh-so delicious. Where do people in rainy and overcast Seattle get their vitamin D to raise their immunity, protect their heart, and prevent osteoporosis? From salmon of course! A six ounce filet is 150% of the recommended daily value of vitamin D. It comes with lots of other health benefits such as omega fats and calcium! The guy on the phone, Garrett, did a very good job recommending the fresh wild Silver salmon (seasonal from Alaska in September) over the frozen King salmon (seasonal in the PNW in May). I was stunned that I was eating salmon that came wild from the water just a day or two before I ate it - in September! I loved how the salmon was cooked - char grilled with a peach nectarine salsa with cilantro and jalapeno peppers. Some acid (citrus) with sweetness and just a tiny kick of jalapeno to make things more interesting! I took one star away because the vegetables were mushy and had no flavor. Yes, I could have added salt and pepper but why should I add sodium to my meals? Why doesn't the chef broil or grill the veggies to create some crunchy texture? Or add some herbs? Or a balsamic vinaigrette? Please show me some creativity and innovation if you're going to charge thirty bucks for a meal? Again, the provincial food scene in Seattle leaves me disappointed. I've paid less for wild salmon at a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant in the SFBA...and it was the most innovative art-like meal with the most perfectly cooked and flavored entree and sides. read more

Yikes. Came on a recommendation from a friend of ours for a birthday dinner a few days ago. The Alaskan Halibut and Salmon were recommended by our server and were both delicious and filling. Their "famous" red clam chowder, though, was disappointingly bland and wasn't necessary. The real kicker of the meal was when our server asked us if we wanted a birthday treat. We were both extremely stuffed but our server insisted for a dessert option to-go. We settled on a key lime pie only to notice that this restaurant had the audacity to CHARGE us for it! I've NEVER been charged for a piece of birthday cake at any restaurant I've gone to on my birthday. To put this into perspective, another restaurant we visited a few days earlier brought out 3 complimentary champagne flutes for me and my friends without even asking! It really killed our mood that this business couldn't spare $8 on a piece of pie. With so many wonderful restaurants in the area, this one just isn't worth it for a special occasion. EDIT: despite reaching out to management several days ago (re: the comment below from Taylor), they have still not reached out to me nor offered a resolution. Chinook's is a favorite. I miss the days of it being on the lower tier of the price spectrum, as it was when it replaced the old Fisherman's Terminal/Wharf diner a couple decades back. But make no mistake, Chinook's delivers delicious seafood, with recipes that are both straightforward to celebrate their fresh seafood and creative enough to reward diners with something unique. Most recently, I had the halibut & chips. I usually don't choose their fried options, since their walk-up counter features those things and you can walk away with a bit less of a spend. As always, the batter was perfect and the fish cooked exactly as it should be. My mom had a chowder; never fails. We arrived early, ahead of Husky basketball. Server was just the right amount of attentive, when she might have otherwise been too near with no other tables to attend to. With all the hard surfaces reflecting sound and amplifying noise, I always feel like the vibe matches the bustle of the working docks outside. And when it fills with customers, it's never too loud to enjoy conversation just the right amount of clatter and energy. If you've never been, definitely enjoy a meal soon. My husband ordered a beer. The Cuba libre was great! We both got clam chowder cups and an order of calamari as appetizer. -Clam chowder was delicious! Creamy, hot and with lots of clams yummy!! -Calamari were delicious too! For lunch I ordered their "Crab cakes" and my husband got the "Halibut fish and chips" the crab cakes were amazing! They had so much crab! They came with a special sweet and Hawaiian sauce, omg amazing! The cakes came with roasted potatoes and broccoli. It was 2 crab cakes. The fish and chips were delicious! Three words: BLUE PLATE SPECIAL! Truly, if I could get away with it- that's all I would write for this Yelp review. The Blue Plate Special at Chinook's is that good! We're talking about a sumptuous lingcod fillet topped with herbed butter and some kind of magical baked sour cream sauce. Seasonal veggies, baby red potatoes... hmmm. If they were open this late at night I would literally drive there right now and order this plate. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water with desire. Okay so while you're there you might as well try a few other things. Really, I've yet to order anything on the menu that I didn't like. The lingcod Blue Plate Special is just my favorite. Honorable mentions though: clam chowder, cod sandwich and the cobb salad. Oh and don't forget the house bread! This place can get busy on the weekends- especially for brunch. Mid week evenings are ideal if you don't want to wait for a table more than 5-10 minutes. If that. The view of the water and boats at Fisherman's Terminal from the restaurant is exceptional. I went to Chinooks recently after not being there for 5 or 6 years. Not much has changed but that was fine with me because it was as good as I remembered it. Great fish and chips and the fresh daily menu always has some good choices. Good for lunch or dinner, fast service from a friendly staff. Chinooks often has a wide selection of PNW fish you don't see in other restaurants, so this really is a great place for seafood lovers. I ordered oysters sampler, clam chowder, and crab, shrimp caeser salad( Today special $25) and the taste was fine. However the salad was not worth to pay $25. It was over priced. I thought main reason this salad was expensive because of crab meat. There was not much crab meat. Just sprinkle of crab meat.. A couple months ago my friend from China and I went for a cocktail and some happy hour snacks . We were in the cocktail lounge by the window . We ordered from the Happy hour menu along with cocktails. The waitress seemed old and tired . I was not happy to see her tired and disinterested , We were 2 people and only one other person in that lounge area I think it was about 4:00 pm . The menu as I recall had a salad and light horde overs maybe soup We ordered from that menu to go with our drinks . I remember the wurst of it being the crusted shrimp. I was looking forward to the starters . Those shrimp were hard and double breaded . Maybe from lunch time not happy hour. Very dry and hard as well as disappointing. So bad , not just a little bad but actually insulting . I can't imagine a waitress actually serving what appeared like garbage . Maybe it was. I live close to Chinooks . I bring my grand children there from time to time . They love the View and lots of choices for dinner. I am so put off by that experience at happy hour Iam not confident ordering dinner. . I have lived in Magnolia for 52 years I have been to Chinooks uncountable times , I was so embarrassed bringing my new neighbor for drinks and An appetizer. Refried shrimp and a small salad was way too embarrassing. The waitress was not remotely interested to serve us. Never smiled or even spoke to us . Was able to hand over the menu at the table. That woman was only interested to converse with a coworker , So the food was horrid and the waitress was sorry to serve us. How much worse can it get? I hate to think.
