As others have noted, this location always seems to be out of something. I'm not sure about you, but I'm not in the habit of calling Chipotle in advance to make sure they have carnitas, sofritas, or guac. And when strolling up to the entrance, there seems to always be a sign that reads, "Sorry we're out of X today." The line is always ridiculously long, and the staff don't seem to be properly trained to handle high volume. There is also inconsistency with the amount of each ingredient that is added to your bowl based on the server. I've actually had to ask for more veggies because they only threw on a couple of peppers. Don't be stingy, or at least be consistent so I know what product to expect! I love that they have a decent outdoor seating area, and the parking is obviously a big bonus since it's in Elmwood. Other than that, if you're really hungry, just be prepared to wait in a long line and possibly have to (almost shamefully) ask for more of something depending on who is making your food. I decided to wait at least a week before attempting to come here. I ended up going two days in a row - both at off peak times. The place still had about a thirty minute wait each time! Being from California, I was already familiar with Chipotle and have been to plenty locations. This particular location seems to be doing pretty well so far. They just need to work on their speed of service and get the line moving quicker. The food was as good as I remembered. I prefer the burrito bowls, tacos and quesodilla. They always give you enough food to split or have for two meals. I like the lay out of this location. They offered plenty of seating and I like the ambient music they were playing both times. read more

I just love Chipotle and it can do no wrong in my eyes! I usually get the bowl with brown rice, chicken, pico, corn salsa, lettuce, sour cream, and cheese. The service here is pretty fast even when the line is ridiculous. It's usually pretty clean. It's just your typical Chipotle. read more

In the months leading up to this place opening, lots of people I know were GOING NUTS about New Orleans finally getting a Chipotle. It's like, yo, you live in a city known for its cool food. Cool it. So from the get-go, I wasn't expecting much, but I was intrigued. If you're by chance unfamiliar with Chipotle, the format of this place is, like, "wait in a line, pick out a thing that can hold meat or whatever, tell them what you want inside apart from meat (or whatever), then get that thing, and probably eat it." Options aren't super wide, but it's decent Tex-Mexy stuff, and for cheap. What I like about Chipotle, or maybe just this location (?), is that they seem to HOOK IT UP when it comes to pleasing customers. A lady who ordered in front of me was kind of awful and wanted the steak in her husband's burrito to be cooked to a temperature different from the standard of the batch-prepared steak. In response to this, the Chipotle dudes grilled up a meat especially for this burrito. On hearing this request, I was just all, "WHATEVER," but it's cool that they did this fresh. So check em out, I guess? To people who've lived or currently live outside of the New Orleans area, I suppose this is like saying, "Hey, check out this place called McDonald's," but I do wanna give a shoutout to Chipotle's employees for being cool. And -- anyway -- they're probably your best bet for a quick, cheap and pretty good burrito in that lil part of Elmwood. read more

I've wanted to eat here for years but there was never any close by. Finally it's here! The place is small with simple decor but it functions well and the burrito bowl my bf and I got was very good. You can choose your rice (brown or white), toppings such as corn, pico, sour cream, guac, cheese, black beans and choice of meat. All tasted fresh and full of flavor. I couldn't eat the whole thing. Very filling. Reason for the 4 stars is the service. Not bad just rushed. But this location was very busy and they kept the line moving. The manager even came by our table and asked if everything was ok. That was nice. If I worked nearby, I'd get lunch here 2-3x a week. Perfect for lunch. read more

Today is Sunday, 10/21/12, and this restaurant has only been open since last Tuesday, 10/16. A Jimmy John's sandwich shop has opened a few weeks earlier in same strip. Subway & Quizno's will surely take a hit from Jimmy John's, but I feel Nacho Mama's might be the big loser as a result of the opening of Chipotle's. Time will tell. Nacho Mama's is already suffering from inconsistency, unless you just admit the service & food at best is mediocre & consistently weak. They recently closed down their other location on Magazine Street uptown. There are a bunch of other stores opening up in this strip in the immediate future: Pinkberry's, Verizon, Charming Charlie's (?), Utra (?) & many more. Problems with parking already exist, as do a seemingly never-to-be-solved issue with major street flooding & traffic in general on S. Clearview Pkwy. (and surrounding streets). I hope, as they have designed the layout for the new stores, that the flooding that occurs in the actual parking areas has been remedied. But, I digress... Even though I have seen the long line snaking outside of Chipotle since it has opened & have read about the 45-minute wait time, I decided to take the chance tonight. Fool that I am, I only wanted to get their chips & guacamole, which I have heard was very good. I wanted nothing else because I actually had leftovers at home and I'm a pescetarian. They don't serve seafood of any kind here like most Mexican or TexMex restaurants that at least have shrimp (& sometimes fish tacos of some sort), and I wasn't looking to get a veggie taco, salad, veggie burrito or "burrito bowl." They also have chips & salsa, but no queso dip. I was really hoping that they had fixed their long wait time over the last couple of days. That was not to be the case. After I had waited 17 minutes in line and had inched along ever so slowly, I stubbornly committed to staying the course. I figured I had wasted this much time already...If you're waffling over whether to wait in line or not, just know that if the line is out the door or if it is looping around by the fountain-drink dispenser, you are *literally* looking at a 45-minute wait. Trust me. So, decide within 5 minutes if you have that kind of wait in you. Apparently a bunch of people do. By the time I got to the service counter after a 40-minute wait, I had checked my email, caught up on Facebook & made moves in 5 different Words with Friends games. Still, I empathized with the one who greeted me. I asked her how she was doing & she responded with fist pump in air, "Yes!! You're the 1st to ask! I'm ok. How are you?" "Well, I'm happy to talk to you finally after a 40-minute wait." (I tried not to sound too passive aggressive, but I often fail.) When she asked what I wanted to eat, I said chips & guacamole. She then astutely replied, "Oh, what are you doing waiting in this line?! You could've just gone straight to the register!" Awesome sauce. A lot of good that does me now, I thought. Someone could've clued me in, say, 40 minutes earlier... I then scurried over to the register after some empathetic customers in front of me getting burritos, etc., let me squeeze past them. (BTW, if you've ever been to Felipe's Taqueria uptown off of S. Claiborne Ave. by Tulane University, you'll recognize a similar set up on how you choose your toppings/build your burrito.) I ordered my chips & guacamole and by this time thought I might try their chips & salsa as well, so I asked register girl how their salsa was. She replied, "It is so great!...But, we're out right now." How is a Mexican Grill out of salsa ever, much less at 7:20 pm?! Ugh. (Someone in line next to me said they came Thursday evening & was told they were out of food...Like completely?!) So, I get two orders of chips & guacamole for $2.95+ tax each since you only get a tiny container of guacamole w/a small pile of chips. See the photo I posted of the chips & guacamole. I recommended to the register lady that put a sign somewhere to clue people in about bypassing the line. Sweet as she was (and apologetic), she said she would tell management... I imagine they will beef up their training & find a way to be better prepared with food and more efficient, but for now I'd recommend giving this place the "Tom Fitzmorris" treatment & try to wait close to 6 months for them to iron out their wrinkles. Clean place. I give 3 stars until they chop their wait time at least in half...especially for what is essentially fast-food Mexican fare (not suggesting it's anything on the sub-par level of Taco Bell). Oh yeah! The guacamole is made in house & is "hand-smashed." A little spicy kick to it & pretty good! I recommend it, but not if you plan to wait in line 40 minutes for it. This could be a great place to grab a quick bite, but it rarely makes the grade. I come here for lunch often and the food is decent. But, I usually take my lunches later in the afternoon, like 2 or 3pm. I'm amazed that even at those times the crew here just can't seem to get it together and work as a team. A team whose main goal is a great customer experience. There is always a wait, no matter if there are three people ahead of you or ten. If one person in the chain gets distracted, the whole thing stops. No one jumps in and keeps things moving. People who are bagging chips or making guacamole will just sit there and look at you...while you wait, sometimes for quite a few minutes. It goes without fail that either there's no ice in the beverage machine or they're out of ice tea. When you bring it to someone's attention, it takes much longer than it should. There's just no communication down the line and people are so involved in their tasks of doing prep work or whatever that it all comes across as not really caring about your customers. I don't blame the employees here, it rests solely on the management and owners. I rarely see a manager present and if there is one, why aren't they up front keeping things rolling, giving directions and support. These employees need more/better training, not just how to slap a burrito together or put chips into a fryer, but how to work as a team and back each other up to make sure your customers are taken care of. I hope this place can pull it together as I'd like to continue as a customer. read more

I frequently went to this chipotle on the weekends. It's clean, employees are always welcoming, and the line moves fast. The food is of good quality like any other chipotle location. I especially love the burrito bowls with carnitas or steak. There is plenty of parking and seating inside and outside. Good place to stop if you're running errands in the Elmwood shopping center. read more

Not very good as far as Mexican food goes, and not very good as far as Chipotle goes. I've been here a couple times now, as it's down the street from where I work, and I've never come away terribly happy. I've always come away full of a giant burrito, so that may explain it, but in overall quality this Chipotle just doesn't stack up. I've had both the steak and chicken and, while the flavor was fine, I got really bad pieces of meat (like lots of fat and yuckiness). The service is 'meh' at best...friendly enough, but quite slow. I do LOVE the guacamole...I am an avocado fiend and will basically eat it in any way, shape, or form, but Chipotle's is quite good. That's about the only thing worth coming here for. read more

I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food and was not very impressed with my first two visits. However, once I tried the rice bowls, I fell in love. I noticed a one star review for the long lines and bland food... You can order online and bypass that long wait. They still seem to make it when you get there (at least for cash orders), but the longest we have had to wait when ordering online is about 5 minutes. That was when we had to wait for them to finish cooking the barbacoa. I also find the food flavorful, although I wish they weren't so stingy on the meat. It reminds me a bit of Taco Bell; how they but a layer of beef so thin, it might float away despite gravity. Granted, Chipotle's meats are much fresher (real), but I still feel like there is too few of it given the size of the rice bowl. The employees', at least those at the register and the one by the online orders are always extremely nice. It reminds me of Raising Canes. If I were a bigger fan of Mexican food, I would likely give this five stars; I'm sure my fiancee would. I don't think I can really fault them for my not liking most of the menu. read more

I'm getting a chance to write a review because the line is so long I actually have time. I could say it's because of the lunch rush but it's almost 2 PM. Instead, I think the slow down is due to increasing ineffiencies in the lines. On the food front, things are steady in some areas and slipping in others. The rice, now available in brown, is still good but the fajita mix is almost all peppers - at least 90% - and barely any onions. When that is what you're burrito consists of, as it often is, that's not very tasty. I would still prefer here to other places but it's losing its luster with Moe's now in town. read more

At one time in NOLA, there was a competition when it came to Mexican food joints. You had Nacho Mamas, Juan's Flying Burrito, and Izzo's Illegal Burrito. Between those three, I had always chosen Juan's simply because you couldn't beat the price for the amount of food you got. Plus, the food was just awesome. The simplicity of Chipotle is what I love. It is so basic... you pick what you want your meal in (usually tacos or a bowl for me) and then you go down the line, rice, beans, perfectly grilled meat, salsa, cheese, sour cream, guacamole... then bam, it's ready. I'm a self proclaimed Chipotle connoisseur. I've been to Chipotle's in many states and LOVE everything about Chipotle. Naturally, I was over the moon when I learned we were getting one in the Greater New Orleans area. My goodness...I've had to travel to other states to get my fix. I went for the first time since they've opened yesterday and though the 45 minute wait had my stomach touching my back in hunger, I was very satisfied with my bowl (when I finally got it!) It was delicious and consistent with my experiences at other (longer running) Chipotle's. So in spite of the wait, I was tickled to leave stuffed :) Can't wait to go back. The hard part will be staying away and timing my visits to avoid the mob scene. read more

I've been to this location a few times. A few months ago, it was a total shit show; the traditional Chipotle flavors were slightly off, they'd run out of stuff constantly, and they were sloooooooow. Fast forward to the present and this Chipotle is operating at par with other Chipotles around the country. My steak tacos with corn tortillas were phenomenal with juicy steak cooked to a perfect medium rare topped with flavorful salsas. A supremely filling and satisfying meal for $7 and some change; the same meal is over $12 at Felipes and Felipes gives you less food. This location has a nice outdoor seating area which is a definite plus. Since it's one of only 2 locations in the metro area it does get pretty packed, but it's definitely one of only a couple places worth mentioning in Elmwood. read more

Chipotle has a great quick-service food concept that is fast and efficient, all-the-while delivering a tasty product. The menu is very simple, with only a few items in which to choose from, and each with several different ingredients to add. All very simple and very streamlined. I always stop in when I am looking for a quick bite and have yet to be disappointed. BOTTOM LINE: An excellent, and much tastier alternative to the Bell. read more

It was difficult to not write a glowing review about a place that I have been praying would open in Nola...but, my last few visits there haven't been great. So, here goes... They've been open for about 3-4 mths now and the lines are consistently looooong but on the right day, they move quickly. So don't be intimidated...if you have at least 20 mins to wait. The music can be very loud inside so grab a seat outside if the weather is nice. The food is hit or miss - sometimes seasoned well, sometimes bland as hell (and no, I'm not a rapper can't you tell?) Although this location is not as consistent as other Chipotles in other states, the guacamole and the days when the food/meat actually is tasty keeps me interested. The mostly antibiotic-free, free-range meat also makes it one of the best alternatives to typical fast food. I love Chipotle so a couple mediocre experiences won't turn me away but I'm looking forward to this location improving over time. read more

As everyone else on here has already said; the wait is horrendous. Just about every time I've gone in it's at least from the counter to the doors, sometimes wrapping around towards the drinking fountain. I've only suffered through that line once. Instead of waiting, when I want the Chipotle fix, I order online or from the iPhone app 20 minutes beforehand, prepay, then just stroll in and walk up to the front to pick up my stuff. I haven't dared tried to pick it up then proceed to sit down to eat for fear that the angry mob of waiting customers will get me. Seems like people already give you some looks just because you get to go to the front of the line. :-P All in all, the food is alright, but I've had better tasting Chipotle from when I lived in California. Let's hope this place irons out the kinks so that it can get some better ratings. read more

Disappointed. Got a carnitas bowl with chips and guacamole. The pork had globs of fat, the rice was clumpy, and there was too much vinegar in the salsa. The salsa overwhelmed the entire dish. The chips were very stale and had way, way too much salt. I'll try a different location next time. read more

It was confusing to order. Waited at the beginning and no one helped us, walked to the register and they sent us back. Ordered a chicken burrito bowl. Taste is ok, but cold meat. My boyfriend tried to get a steak burrito bowl. They couldn't hear him well enough and made a burrito instead. At least his was warm. Way too loud. Waited to check out and the employees just stared at us. Finally called someone who was on the floor to check us out. Service meh. Fresh taste. Cold meat meh. Not worth the price. read more

Small, quaint place but the food was ok. This was my first time eating at Chipotles. I wanted to see what all the hype was with it. It's exactly like felipe's, or maybe like izzo's. I would definitely recommend if you wanted a good burrito. This place deserves 3 stars, but I gave it a 4 because the cashier accidentally over charged me about 8-10 dollars. I had no clue she did that. I paid for my food and sat down. She came over to my table while I was eating and told me about it. They refunded me the charge. Any other place, maybe not chick-fil-a, would have simply just let it go and took my money. They were super nice about it. But still, that wouldn't make me go back and eat their food. I love asking for double portions of meat and getting maybe 4oz in total. $12 for a sad a** burrito bowl with barely any substance. God forbid you tell them you want double meat before they put the first serving on. They will really short change you if you do this. And when confronting the employee about the small serving portions, they want to get an attitude. I'm a huge fan of chipotle! I'm from California and apparently it's a much bigger deal there than it is here in Louisiana. It's easily comparable to Izzo's. Chipotle offers brown rice, and organic options. I'm always pleased with the portions, they are pretty large, you definitely get what you pay for. This location is a little small but, pretty clean. Went there today to get a quick bite to eat before going to the movies. The line was huge and was moving slowly. We got steak burritos and chicken bowl. They put tiny amounts of steak on the burritos. It was smaller than the other times I ate here so we asked to add the meat. The server told us that's how much meat they put on their burritos and would not add any more. I asked to talk to the manager, who came out and also said it was the amount they give - 4oz of meat. Everyone who was with me agreed that it was probably 1/2 of the regular portion we usually get. Well, Chipotle, you lost us as customers. read more

If I give 3 smackeroos to a fast food place, I'm impressed. My daughter has been after to me to check this place out. She ate at Chipotle's a lot during her college days in S.C. where fast food is so much "better" than in NOLA. See Five Guys. So we met for lunch on a 90 degree day on that lovely stretch of Clearview Pkwy that was so much more scenic when it was a cow pasture, ie, Elmwood, the Concrete Jungle. She walked me through the Felipeesque process of making my "bowl." I was impressed by the fresh ingredients which is apparently the Chipotle food mission. You can make fast food that is healthy and tasty. And tasty it was. Not knock your socks off tasty, but tasty nonetheless. My "bowl" (which is a burrito with no tortilla) had something like brown rice (flavored with lime and cilantro), black beans, pulled pork, cheese and some sort of salsa. It was a pretty good and healthy dish and beats a double whopper with cheese on both the disgust and bloat factor. As for the decor, I can't say I'm a fan. They are trying not to look fast food so basically have designed an interior with stainless steel bar seating which is somewhat communal, very trendy. See Mariza. It is an improvement over the orange and yellow formica at most FF places, but, frankly, I thought the tables would have been perfect for a morgue, easy to clean etc. But regardless of the morbid decor, I will go back....and maybe get it to go. Basically it was very slow in the line, they gave me the wrong burrito, screwed up my wife's order and then they didn't have Cheese in the building. Are you kidding?
