If I could give them 10 stars I would and it would be well deserved! We had Chips beach eatz food truck for your small wedding! They were nothing less then amazing! Every single guest told us how great the appetizers and entrees were! We did a selection of: Cali burrito Beach burger Fish tacos Pulled pork sandwich Huli-Huli chicken bowl Appetizers: Ahi tuna bits Pork spring rolls Buffalo shrimp I can't say enough about how great the food and service was! Pretty good eatz today. Tried the $8 kalua pork sandwich and $4 fries. Tasty sandwich, with tender pulled pork, crunchy cabbage, and sweet bbq sauce. I think I noticed a bit of avocado spread on the soft sandwich roll. Maybe even pineapple bits, or were my eyes playing tricks on me? I thought it was a good amount, although some folks with a heartier appetite might be wanting. The fries were served up hot and crispy. A good amount for sharing; rightfully so for that price. I would happily taken a smaller portion for a discounted price and not waste these extra fries. Maybe some price points for small vs large sizes? Service was cheerful and friendly, without being pushing or upselling other products. I appreciate that they had a pretty extensive list of menu items available this evening, except I really would've liked to try their Hilo Poke listed from the website. Paying with plastic? That's ok, but be prepared to pay a small convenience surcharge, transaction fee, or whatever they call it these days. Otherwise bring cash. It's my first time discovering Chip's, so I'd be interested to try something else if we crossed paths again. If I'm lucky, poke will be back on the menu. Carne Asada Fries seemed to be the most popular choice here. I however ordered the Baja Chicken Torta. The torta consisted of a spicy chicken katsu patty ( Think Jack in the Box spicy chicken sandwich). The torta was pretty spicy which made it worth my while. Several other patrons found the food to be average when compared to other trucks in the UTC area. I recommend this truck if it's the only one parked. Yesterday, I catered this for a work event which had a limited menu. That being said, most people had problems trying to pick because everything sounded so good. Fries! It's funny how everyone in the office initially wanted tacos but with four other menu options, people were quick to change their minds. Fries! Everything was delicious and did I mention they have fries? I don't eat fries that often but they are worthy of tracking the location of the truck and getting an entrée with fries. Conveniently parked outside of the Naval Hospital, so I thought I'd give this a try. I had the $10 spicy crabwich special and the Thai beef lettuce wrap. The portions weren't bad, but after reading the other reviews about how they use "fresh crab", I'm fairly sure they have changed up their recipes or they are lying to somebody. The crab had a weird texture that I am fairly sure meant it came out of a can and it had a large chunk of plain cod or a similar fish (sort of like the inside of a fishstick, minus the breading). It also had avocado and they made it spicy by mixing the fish with mayo and Sriracha. The bread was pretty awesome though, it was lightly toasted and exactly how I like it - hard enough to give it texture but soft enough so it doesn't shred your mouth and give you "Joker" mouth ("Wanna know how I got these scars?"). The $7 Thai beef lettuce wraps were a mess to eat, there was no wrapping involved, just 4 pieces of lettuce laid down with a bunch of Sriracha covered beef and noodle things thrown down on top. Served with a fork, which didn't help much. The flavor was pretty good, but when you have no access to a sink and there weren't any visible napkins, I looked like a crime scene when I was finished eating. Overall, it seemed kind of expensive for a canned and fake crab sandwich no matter how awesome the bread was and make sure you ask for napkins! read more

We found this food truck because we happened to see a farmer's market/food truck roundup on the side of the road while driving to the SD Air and Space Museum. Best decision ever to pull over and get a snack! We were there right when the event opened up, so we didn't encounter any lines. We received great customer service from the owner. We inquired about the spicy crab sandwich. We love seafood sandwiches, but can't stand imitation crab (some places actually use that stuff! :P). The owner was very enthusiastic about emphasizing the fact that they don't use "krab"! LOL! We ordered it and we were super satisfied. It definitely lived up to the spicy part of its name! I would eat this sandwich at least once a week if I lived in the area! :) Next time I'm it there....I can't wait to try the Yucca fries! read more

The California Burrito was a big hit. Chip was friendly and made each guest feel special. I received numerous compliments about the food and the service. I didn't hear any negative comments. Just tried their grilled fish tacos today with no white sauce and they were awesome, really fresh and full of flavor but still light and tasty. The fish was perfectly grilled but not overcooked and perfectly seasoned and not too salty. Not spicy at all. Tortillas were soft, hot and fresh and the included toppings of lettuce, cilantro, onions, etc. was fresh and perfect. My co-workers all ordered other items, such as the carne asada fries, pork burger, plain fries, burritos, etc. and loved it all. Food came out fast and good service, too. Really great quality food, consistently. I could eat a Wahoo Crabwich and Yucca fries daily. The salsa verde that comes with the yucca fries is amazing and house (or truck!) made as are the other salsas, sauces.... I could eat a Crab-wich and the yucca fries daily. I want one now. I like that there is quite a large selection of menu items but all with a similar theme. Literally something for everyone you are with. We will definitely go back to try more of the menu. read more

Chip's is one of the more unique food trucks in San Diego in that there's always a really great selection of entrees to choose from, and you can find something for everyone in your party (whereas with some of the other trucks you're stuck with just one theme). We've tried several of the entrees over numerous visits and have found that everything always seems to be made with thought and attention to detail on how the flavors are going to work together. You can tell that the food is fresh and made in-house, even down to the sauces and salsas. If you appreciate good food you can never go wrong with this truck. Our go-to favorites are the fish tacos and, when feeling a little more indulgent, the carne asada fries. Chip's is a very refreshing change from the typical San Diego food truck scene! read more

The California burrito was terrible. The fries were soggy. There was no guacamole, no sour cream, no lettuce. The meat looked like ground beef, instead of carne asada. I am very disappointed. For $6 I expected better. Will definitely never go back. read more

I discovered this goodness running on 4 wheels at the Relay For Life of La Jolla - now anyone who supports a good cause already earns a star but to find out that they support local, organic and sustainable ingredients...well, another star - but the bulk of the stars comes from how great everything tasted. I had the crab sandwich and yucca fries with green salsa. How could a little beach truck produce such gourmet food? They also offer so many other hybrid gourmet platters to satisfy anyone's palate - I think it will be my mission to try everything on their menu this summer which will be exciting as their menus change every now and again. I'm only giving this 3 stars because of the service. The lady who takes orders can be little short and rude sometimes however, their food is pretty good. The only place I know of that server Yucca fries which are a little heavy and would be better if available in a 1/2 order but to share it's the perfect size. Their menu is open to change but if they have the firecracker chicken I highly recommend it. read more

We asked Chip and Amy to come out to host a corporate training dinner this past week. I choose them because they had such a varied menu and easily accommodated our vegetarian participants. I had the fish tacos and the carne asada fries, and recommend both (although my eyes were bigger than my stomach and couldn't finish the latter). Holy yummmm! Chip's came to the rescue at my work after our other food truck had to reschedule. I asked the guys working what to get, which was slightly unfair because I know it probably all tastes great, but they suggested I order the crabwich with wahoo. After my first few bites I was hooked! If I ever see this truck out I will definitely stop by and grab another sandwich and hopefully get something else as well. We will absolutely rebook this truck at work! The name Chip's Beach Eatz didn't grab me at first, I gotta admit. But I'm glad I gave them a try. The PBP burrito is just straight up delicious! Tender roast pork with nice crispy bits, sweet plantains and black beans, like a plate of Cuban food in a tortilla. Great sweet/savory balance, really enjoyed it. My wife had the spicy crab/wahoo sandwich, which was also really good. Thumbs up all around, will definitely be back for more. read more

The Yucca Fries were the best fries I have ever tasted - meaty, hot, beautifully prepared. They were almost a meal in itself. The fish tacos were superb also, white fish, hot and delicious. Chip's provides an excellent value in quality food and good pricing. read more
