Solid breakfast...nothing stood out, but I left satisfied. Sadly, I was disappointed that ALL of their beans are cooked with pork. We live in California, afterall, where there are a lot of vegetarians. Beans can very easily taste delicious without using any meat products (like lard). The breakfast potatoes were undercooked, too. Besides the food, the service was okay-as was the simple ambiance. I might come back, if I'm ever in the area. Came in for breakfast. So glad we did. Everyone was welcoming. Everything was delicious and we all finished our food. No leftovers! We ordered the Healthy Breakfast, Chilaquiles with Steak and a side of Pancakes, and a Junior French Toast with Sausage and bacon. Everything was fresh. Vegetables weren't mushy and the steak was seasoned and cooked well. The pancakes were fluffy. We left smiles and our bellies full. My kids all gave it 2 thumbs up! Already making plans to go back. A minor hiccup with us being forgotten because we were seated in back, and I had to go to front to let them know we were ready to order. Extremely disappointed with this place. Ordered 45 dollars worth of food and nearly half of it was gone. It was an online order. I had the chilaquiles with chicken and rice and beans. The other order was the create your own Guate breakfast. Upon receiving the chilaquiles, it felt extremely light. When I got home, there was zero chicken and probably less than a cup of rice and beans. Absolutely abysmal portions for the price you pay. The guate breakfast was also missing a chorizo and the portions, again, were small. I'm really hoping they don't skimp out on online order or to-go orders because the pricing is an absolute scam for this amount of food. Don't think I will ever return to this place. Edit: The owner did reach out and apologized and offered a 50 percent discount. I am updating my rating to reflect this. It seems they do care and want to make things right. I still don't think I'll be returning, but the gesture of them reaching out shows integrity. Edit again: They reached out again and offered to comp the meal. They didn't realize the chicken was still cooking and that is why it was missing. Honestly, they went above and beyond trying to make this right. Still unsure about the portions, however, the service from them made me rethink the rating and increased the rating. Overall, the meal wasn't bad. It tasted great, but the portions need to be worked on a bit for the price. It just goes to show that if you do care about your customers, you will gain their patronage for life. This is my second review after going a few more times from my first one. What can I say but AMAZING?! Little by little this family owned restaurant has been getting more popular. They've upgraded their dining area and even their tableware. This tells me they are doing well. They are the friendliest people to be working in the restaurant industry. They are always making sure your meal is good and you are ok. The food is the best part. I have only gone here for breakfast but I think if that's good, the lunch and dinner must be good too! Their effort and their food make this restaurant one of the best I have ever been to. They treat you like family and Martin puts his heart into everything. Now let's turn this around the sandwich is big, ham, turkey, egg and cheese.. it's presented pretty and looks dang amazing. Had to ask for jam...and the bread a bit too soggy... but it's a French toast sandwich... lots of flavor and fry's. It's decorative style is a bit cramped but honest and homey... random loud vacuuming noise from kitchen but whatever. It's a mom and pop. It's good food for a fair price. But because I believe that the owner will respond I will say this.... Thank you for all you do... owning a restaurant is hard...especially with labor costs... But if I could please suggest one thing it would to have a few healthier choices as I believe it may reach a wider audience. Went here after Church on Saturday and it wasn't busy. My mom and I were extremely excited to try somewhere new for breakfast and after we read the reviews for this place we decided to go. This place definitely has potential, but fell short. The food was extremely delicious and such a good price but the service was so mediocre. Honestly, we felt like an inconvenience to the people working there. Our first server was awkward, and we didn't feel welcomed because after we put our order in she failed to come back. We asked another guy who worked there for water, and he acknowledged it but never brought it. The only nice waitress, was the young one. The vibe is like a glorified taco shop, they really put an effort on the decorations but the lack of taste won. Lots of the pictures on the walls gave me the deja Vû feel of being at the border in Tijuana waiting to cross. Mexico and Guatemala have beautiful art and crafts, why the owner went and pick cartoonish low quality paintings it's beyond my comprehension. I went for breakfast with some friends and the reviews were mixed up. I ordered the churrasco and the plate included the meat, eggs, beans, queso reason and fried plantain. I usually order scrambled eggs to avoid the crusty- gooey in the center sunny side up ones, well the cook managed to make crusty scrambled eggs. I was only able to eat the meat, some beans, and plantains. Another friend order enchiladas verdes and could not eat them because she felt a foul taste on the chicken. I trued her salsa Verde and tasted like fresh out of a can. The service was good, and the food took forever but we understood because we saw only one cook in the kitchen and our table alone had a dozen of hungry customers. My review of Chiroy's is just the first! AND I want to say thank you to the manager, Martin, for seeing that I was a happy customer in filling my order even after my store-closing arrival! I got to Chiroy's after 2 pm but thought they were open to 4 pm. They usually are except on holidays. And YES, this was a holiday! Out of respect, I ordered as quick as possible and would probably have picked something other than what I ordered if I had to time to conduct a more complete menu scan. But as you see that had no effect on the score at all! I ordered a steak and eggs plate that came with hash browns and bread. It really was what I craved at the moment. I stepped out of the store, picked up some AlohaMacs at Poke Etc and then went back and got my dinner! Two check-ins accomplished! Back to the meal, I would say it was prepped very well - fully the way I wanted it (scrambled eggs, wheat bread, and steak well-done!). I had A-1 in one small container, but some very hot stuff in the other. After eating a bit, I decided it was time to spice it up a little more to my Mexican-style liking. Got out my Cholula sauce and put it on the eggs and steak! Meal complete! Many thanks Martin! You have a fan in me and I'll be back. There is ample seating both inside and outdoors at Chiroy's. There is a sign saying masks are required but I learned that this is optional after inquiring. Still, always be safe and keep the proper distance between yourself and others. We strolled in around 330pm, oblivious that they close at 4pm but was greeted and and we choose to be sat outside. Service was top notch from arrival to departure. The food smelled yummy upon arrival. Munchkin started digging in before I was even able to take a picture, thats how good it looked to him. The sauce for the chilaquiles was mild but I forgot to taste the salsa I was provided for hotness and it was medium hot but I had put a spoonful on my first bite and learned my lesson quickly. The beans were flavored perfectly and I didnt care to much for the mexican rice. I tried munchkins pancakes and it had a very sweet distinctive flavor that I couldn't put my finger on (aside from the maple syrup) and munchkin said it was a love/hate relationship while eating his pancakes it was so good but a little sweet for him but couldn't stop eating it. The hashbrowns were cooked how I like them (even though it came with munchkins meal, it was an option for me as well but I opted for rice and beans instead)... they were crisp on top and bottom with a soft tender texture inside. The flavor was not too much, just right. Munchkin loved his scrambled eggs and almost finished them by the time I started to take a bite of my food. It was a lot of food! We were offered boxes but the food choices we had are rarely great the next day. The menus seemed older as the true prices are $1-2 higher, so keep that in mind. We did not feel pressured or rushed and felt we received great service even though they had pickup orders and other patrons inside. Had a craving for waffles and birria tacos (with consome) and turns out this is the spot that has both! Staff was super friendly and checked by a couple times, lots of seating (indoors and outdoors) and a pretty wide menu featuring breakfast, lunch (or brunch) and dinner including some Guatemalan and Mexican dishes. Ended up getting their waffle order which included a tasty large waffle plus 2 sunny side up eggs, 2 pieces of sausage and 2 pieces of bacon. I ordered a side of tocino, which looked like more bacon? The BF and I also shared an order of birria mini tacos and a side of consome which were both good but we got full. Been wanting to check out this place and finally did. The Cafe de Olla was really good! Got the chiroys combination plate as well as the banana crepes plate for breakfast to share with a friend. Both were good, but I preferred the chiroys combo plate. That green sauce was really good! Had to get 2 of them :) The waiter who helped us was super friendly. They do add a fee if you pay with a credit card. I tried to pay with a credit card, but for some reason the QR code didn't work, so ended up paying with cash. They served breakfast later in the day (past 1pm) which was great since I had a late start and couldn't get there early. Overall, it's a decent place to grab breakfast! read more
