Came here for a Sunday afternoon tea and it was adorable! You get a variety of salty and sweet foods- my favorite wad their cheese and ham sandwich with bechamel sauce, totally heaven sent! - as well as tea or coffee. It is BYOB so you can bring champagne and they'll set it up for you, which was a very cute add on to our afternoon! The lady who served us was incredibly attentive, she explained everything to us and made sure we had an enjoyable time! We were there for around 2 hours and never felt rushed to leave, even when they were already closing to the rest of the public. I so recommend you check them out! read more

One of my new favorite afternoon tea spots in NJ! I made a reservation for afternoon tea with a friend on a Friday afternoon. We were so impressed with the quality of the pastries, our favorites being the spinach and feta pastry and the Chocolatine croissant! They were fresh and so delicious! We left so stuffed with the amount of food it came with! For $70 for two, it is definitely a splurge or for a special occasion but they also had plenty of pastries aside from the afternoon tea. Their newest location in Morris Plains - the inside is so bright and open. They have a great selection of sweets from macarons to an array of stuffed croissants! I got their Pistachio Roll - a round crossaint roll filled with Pistachio cream. It was such a delicious treat and it was STUFFED with filling! Nothing is made in house. All commissary from their Denville location. . That doesn't make it bad, but to me this doesn't say bakery. It would be a coffee shop. What I am confused about was the almond croissant. What was inside it? The filling resembled an omelette made with eggs. Sitting at room temp. I only learned this when I cut into it at home. What was that stuffing? Eggs? Room temp? Argh! Not an almond croissant. Unsure what that was. read more

Walking by with my coworker and we decided to stop in. It was probably the best decision we made all day! They had many sweet treats to offer. The worker was so nice and very patient with us as we looked over all the options and discussed what to get. We wound up getting several things to try! All were great! Very fresh! I've been dying to check out this bakery ever since I heard about it through social media. I finally got to go yesterday morning and it was great. The bakery is cute. The employees were friendly and helpful. The pastries were just like what I saw in their Instagram profile. I bought an almond croissant, raspberry and chocolate croissant, Paris brest, and Cheese Danish with raspberries. My favorite was the cheese Danish with raspberries. It was creamy, light and delicious. The Paris Brest was rich and creamy as well. It was different from what I've eaten in the past. The raspberry and chocolate croissant was decent. These pastries are best when eaten the same day you purchase them. The prices were reasonable considering their size. I was told the croissants are made fresh daily. Did we really need another reason to visit Denville? Yes we did! This is the French pastry shop we didn't know we needed! Pastries are a thing of absolute beauty. And even better is the taste! No need to book that flight to Paris. The owners are delightful and you haven't lived until you've tried one of their flattened croissants! The only downside is that it's quite small and there's no place to sit inside, however the town does provide plenty of outdoor seating for that latte and tiramisu croissant!!! Reasonably priced too. Visited the Morris Plains location this morning. Easy to park around the corner in the back if not right in front. The pistachio roll was amazing and my husband said the almond croissant was the best he's had. We took home 3 others we will be trying tonight. Will definitely be returning. Today was the first time I stepped into Chocolatine (though I have had a couple croissants previously) and all I can say is "Wow" I'm no world traveler, but I have had some amazing pastries in Rome and Portugal and let me tell you, they know what they're doing at Chocolatine. As someone trying to lose weight I probably should NOT have gone in, but I'm hooked. The place is small, and only has takeout (I would have loved to have sat down with an espresso, but alas...you can't), but the staff are super friendly and helpful and the options can be overwhelming (I wanted one of everything). We simply overindulged - Wifey got a salmon croissant and a chocolate raspberry croissant and I got a croque monsieur and a chocolate almond croissant - so we both got a savory and a sweet. The croque monsieur - think a baked ham and cheese with an extra slice of cheese melted on top. And the salmon croissant was a regular (but long) croissant with Boursin cheese and salmon on top. A proper French bakery in Denville, who knew?! The viennoiserie prices are fair, and the croissants are well proofed and buttery. The chocolate croissant could use another baton of chocolate though. We enjoyed the raspberry, chocolate croissant more. We found the dough to be airier as well. The plain croissant was ok, the dough was slightly tougher, but they don't skimp on the butter from the look of all the air pockets between the layers. We tried the almond croissant hot out of the oven. There was a lot of frangipane. I would like a little less as it gets too sweet, but that's personal preference. I saw this place on Yelp a few days ago and knew I had to visit soon. Yesterday I stopped by around lunchtime to check it out. This is a small store with all the pastries in a display case. Everything looked decadently delicious! I chose an "Opera Cake" and "Vanilla Bourbon". My wife and I had them in the evening and they were fantastic! My favorite was the Opera with its espresso/coffee taste. They also sell little beignets for $1 each. I picked up a raspberry one for a quick snack. Loved it! The star of this place is the croissants. They looked so good. I'll be making a return visit soon to try those out! The woman serving was very helpful. My favorite French bakery. You are always greeted with a smile. This location is spacious with a cafe on one side. I always get a Croque Monsieur for weekend brunch, a classic French hot sandwich made with ham and cheese, layered with a béchamel sauce, topped with more cheese. So good. Croissants are big and there are many different kinds. I crave for it. A small collection of delicate cakes are delicious, too. My recent hit was Dubai chocolate cake. Honestly this place is a hell of a drive for me. While looking for new coffee shop I found this place. If you have seen my reviews I will for whatever the reason drive an hour for new places. What a long strange trip: Ran into the owner before it was even built- nicest guy ever; really looked forward to this place opening. First few time there it was some of the best coffee I'd had and the person working there was calm, warm and welcoming. Had small pastry and it was pretty lousy but the French cookies in the small boxes went well with the coffee. I had found "my place". Everything changed: The new employees were frantic and incompetent. I was approached twice asking id I had paid as I sat with my coffee. Asked by the very person I had paid. She was harsh in her approach. I felt very uncomfortable. The next two times there were 2 new sets of workers who were simply distracted and disinterested. (I asked if they were going to get more of the cookies and they had no interest in my question). I saved the worst for last. The coffee is now at way too high a temperature and it is BURNT. I LOVE very strong coffee; this was not strong, it was burnt. The last 3 times I was there the coffee was burnt to the point of bitterness. It also burned my tongue. A mini chocolate croissant was inedible; stale with small pieces of bitter HARD AS A ROCK chocolate in the center. I tried to say something about how the coffee had changed but they were too distracted to pay any attention to me-or to notice I had thrown out my coffee after 2 minutes. As I said the owner was nice but somebody with that strong a French accent should sell coffee and pastries this bad. Sadly I no longer have "a place". It's back to Coniglio's! read more

I ordered it for dine-in and the energy in the cafe was very welcoming, and the vibes were very pleasant. I will definitely come back in the future after a great first time visit! read more

We went in the afternoon (30 minute) before they are closing.. so the lady behind the counter apologized to us saying whatever we see is what they have left!! I mean it's not their fault!! But they really do care about it their customers!! They have so many different kind of favor croissant.. plain, double chocolate, strawberry (never heard of!!) and I am sure they have other fancy one that was sold out!! In town visiting family, and Yelp searched looking for a good place to get coffee. I believe I hit the jackpot in finding Chocolatine. Such an incredible selection of pastries, you might think you're in a fancy patisserie in the city. Their croissants look perfectly flaky and buttery, and their pastries looked rich and delicate. I wish I could have ordered one of everything. On this trip, I ended up getting two things I cannot find in DC; a cronut and a croissant roll. I threw in some beignets for good measure. All were delicious. The cronut and croissant roll were both super flaky and perfectly sweet without being overwhelming. The hazelnut/chocolate inside the roll walked that line as all, rather than bring straight up Nutella. Very well done. The beignets were exactly as you'd expect. Light little pillows of fried dough. Perfect. My cappuccino was also made very well. Im typically a 1-2 sugar kinda guy, but forgot until I walked back to my car, and didn't even need the added sweetness. The owner and her sister were both there during my visit, and could not have been sweeter. The people of Denville are so lucky to have Chocolatine. read more

These are the best French pastries in town, and probably the best French pastries this far west of Manhattan. You can see the work that went into the presentation of each good. You don't get layers like this without folding in the butter over and over again. That's what disappoints me in the end about the chocolate croissant I got. It deserved to be crunchier and flakier than it came out. I was thrilled by the selection inside: macarons, Nutella croissants, juices in clear glass containers, and tempting pastries, like the opera in my photos. Such beautiful pasties! We got both the hazelnut and the raspberry beignets, a pistachio croissant roll and a raspberry and chocolate croissant. The hazelnut beignet was a bit more dense than the raspberry. I loved the raspberry--it was like a mini jelly donut. The pistachio croissant roll was heavy, due to the filling. The filling paired with the crispy layered outside was a nice juxtaposition. The raspberry croissant was not very raspberry tasting, and there was just a little bit of chocolate inside, but the parts that did have both were yummy. read more

Interesting new addition to the denville desert scene. Everything looked pretty and shiny, but not fresh or tasty. I ordered the croque misure, they were ready made sitting in the case, they looked a little sad but I wanted to steal a nostalgic moment of my trips to Paris, it failed miserably, it was heated up for me, but the middle was still cold, the bread slices were too thick, crusty and stale, a single thin slice of ham in the middle, it wasn't good. They also ran out of bread, which is really what I wanted. I'm very glad they have so many great reviews and wish them luck, I wish they could figure out a way to make the sandwich fresh. read more

I found Chocolatine through Yelp when I searched local bakeries in Danville NJ. I live in CA and my husband and I wanted to send our friends an assortment of pastries, sweet & savory. Elaine answered the phone and helped us with our order. She is so helpful and nice. Her husband is the baker from France and all of the choices Elaine suggested were enjoyed by our friends. Elaine took the time to include a personalized note from us and went through the menu with us. Once we made our choices, Elaine guided us to the website and we chose which delivery service to use. We chose Uber Eats and the delivery guy was so nice and followed the drop off instructions. We can't wait to visit our friends this summer and go to Chocolatine in person! I wanted so much to love this bakery and give it 5 stars. I drove from far and ordered a lot of different items because they made high promises of quality. Overall, the food had a day old taste.
