Nice food, good ambiance. Prices are a little high for what you get. But still tasty. We had a large group and got to try a bunch of different things. Probably would go back, but I'm not looking to spend that much again. I was at fault for not reading the menu correct as you have to specify that you want your food in the hot stone, so I just ended up with a bowl of rice and veggies without the delicious crusty rice bits that come from having the stone bowl. Choi's is definitely a hidden gem. They open for lunch and dinner and there isn't too much parking. In the night I think they valet, but we've always been able to find street parking. We've been a few times for both lunch and dinner. This last time we got the kalbi jjim and meat Jun. the meat Jun was really good. Not too much batter, the meat wasn't too fatty and the meat was tender. The kalbi jjim was on the sweeter side. I wish the meat had a little more of a crust but it was still really tender and flavorful. They do give a lot of panchans. My favorite is the green veggies, bean sprouts and kim chee. For the two of us, this was more than enough food and we got to take some kalbi jjim home. It is on the pricier side for Korean food, but definitely a spot I'd keep coming back to. read more

If you're looking for great quality Korean food with great service, look no further! I'm Korean myself and give them two thumbs up because they know what they're doing and the food is authentic. It is a bit pricier than the other spots but it's worth it. The meats they use for their kbbq is great quality and serving size is average. I mainly go there for the soups & stews because it reminds me of home. For appetizers, try the seafood pajun or their dumplings (mandoo). If beef tartare is your thing, I also highly recommend the Yuk Hae. You won't regret it! The miso cabbage soup, spicy beef soup, and kimchi stew are a few of my favorites. I enjoy my kimchi to be super fermented (to the point where it's almost sour) and this is one of the few places that serves it that way in their kimchi stew! I'm going to Seoul in October and I'm trying out restaurants here to find out what I like so I'm prepared when I go. This place has decent reviews but I'm not sure what happened when we were there. Our waitress was rude. Never got her name because she was too busy rushing us eventhough the resturant was empty. We wanted to ask questions but the banchan was set down in a rush and we didn't see her til the other food came out. The bibimbap needs some flavor. A sauce, a spice, something. It was so flavorless. The kimchi and spicy rice cakes were the best thing we ordered. Most of the dishes come with rice but we didn't know because it was sent out after the main dish. My friend ordered fish that came out with the banchan and we couldn't stop the waitress to ask about a side of rice. The rice later appeared when the other dishes showed up. An older lady was helpful when we stopped her to ask about an eggplant dish. The plates weren't cleared- I'm not sure if they wait until we are gone to take them? But they rushed over to take the checks without removing empty plates. If they have a dessert menu I wouldn't know because no one came to ask us if we needed anything after the bill came halfway into the meal. I'll consider myself a regular here. I've been here so many times., I've lost count. And I keep coming back. The two things that stand out (besides the food) is the SERVICE and the CLEANLINESS. The wait staff have been consistently good here; they are friendly, good with suggestions, fast with requests. Choi's has a service button at the tables which helps with the timely service. And the restaurant has been renovated so it's modern, new and clean. I like clean restaurants. Anyway, everything on the menu is good (I haven't tried everything but let's just say that it is). They give a lot of side dishes and will replenish if asked. This is my fave part of eating at a Korean restaurant....I love the side dishes. My Faves: Soft Tofu Stew - My comfort food. Very tasty and I make mines MILD. Oyster Hot Stone Pot Bibimbap - Love this dish! The various vegetables make it pretty and the oysters make is tasty. I like to overcook the rice by leaving it in the pot. Yummy! Seafood Pancake - I order this whenever I eat Korean food. This one is yummy! I've asked a lot of my Korean friends about where they go for good pretty authentic food and one restaurant that always comes up in conversation is Choi's Garden. Get there early for best service and free valet parking. The food is always really really good. You can cook at your table or have them cook for you. Food is normal for a BBQ place they do have some other food that other places don't have but it's more expensive. I went for lunch about a month ago and didn't know it was valet parking there isn't any sign and it turns out only the parking on the left along the fence is free but the rest isn't. I am most upset by the parking because the place isn't even a fancy place and you go and spend money on food that I can get for less and just as good for less and not pay for parking. I gave two stars 2 just for the other food and drinks that most places don't have. If it wasn't for the parking and the man that doesn't look professionally dressed for his part I think I give it a 4-4.5 read more

I was able to go to dinner with my family to Choi's. I had been craving Korean really bad and needed my fix. Parking is really limited here...fortunately we were there for early dinner so there was ample parking. I am not 100% sure but I think they have a parking attendant that helps with the cars. The service at this restaurant was ok...the waitresses were polite, but not overly friendly....pretty business like. Although our party trickled in during the two hour dinner, and they were pretty patient with that. Since there were seven of us and we were able to try a bunch of different things.... Banchan 7 types of side dishes is a good amount. All the flavors were different and very good. I did enjoy eating these throughout my meal, and they gave us refills as well. Kalbi The kalbi was very good and we ended up ordering two plates of this. Thick, meaty, and flavorful....so yummy! I could eat this all day long! Japchae The noodles were just ok. It wasn't that they were bad, just not as good as everything else. Bulgogi This was super good as well...tons of flavor and slightly sweet, I think this was the table favorite, along with the kalbi. We had two of these as well. Pancake The pancake was good as well...not as spectacular as the meat, but it was good. Bi bim bap stone pot The stone pot was a little of a disappointment. It wasn't as tasty as I wanted it to be and for whatever reason, I couldn't get the hard crust to form on the rice. I am not sure if the stone pot wasn't hot enough or what...but I was bummed because that's my favorite part. I would go back because the food was very good. However this is a fairly pricey place. We had a family dinner at Choi's Garden on Easter Sunday. We ordered Kalbi, tofu soup (sondubu jjigae) and spicy buckwheat noodles (neangmyeon). The kalbi was cook on your own, which I typically don't care for, but they make it pretty idiot proof. It came out very tender and flavorful. The tofu soup was very tasty with just the right amount of spiciness and the spicy buckwheat noodles was tasty and had some over the top kick to it, but that was why we ordered it. Choi's Garden also has some of the best side dishes (banchan). Of course there was kimchee, but they also had some pickled bean sprouts, Korean green salad, sweet soy potatoes, pickled greens and acorn jelly. You'll have to Google that last one. They also have the coldest Stella Artois on tap you'll find in Hawaii. read more

So this is my default/go to Korean place. They did a renovation about a year ago, so the place is bright, clean, and has lots of space. While they do have a parking lot in front, its valet only (free). I've come here many times and had their Yuk kae, pancakes, various soups, meats, etc. They cook most things well and their prices are pretty reasonable. If you come here for lunch they have a lunch menu with most items below $15. This time around we had their Yuk Kae Jang (spicy beef and vegtable soup) and their Flying Fish Roe Bibimbap. I've had the Yuk Kae Jang and it's a lot if food, shredded beef, green onions, glass noodles, and other vegetables. Like most Korean places their soups come with a side of rice. It was my first time having the bibimbap and I must say I wish I tried it sooner. It's your standard bibimbap (rice and mixed vegetables) in a stone bowl, however they top it with a heaping mound of flying fish roe. The hit stone bowl crisps up the rice and mixed together with some gochujang it was an amazing meal.Im definatly going to order this again. They usually serve about 6 panchans (kimchi, fish cake, potatoes, spinach, bean sprouts, and cucumber kimchi) and will happily refill them if you ask. The owner came by and asked how our meal was and also brought by another side dish (stirfried eggplant). I ended up eating a lot more than I planned but I left happy. read more

So it was pau hana Friday, and one of my good friends from back n' da days -middle school & high school was home for the holidays. We had asked her what she was jonesing for.............Korean it is! Off we went to Choi's Garden, as my grindz buddy in crime - Sharon H., who is a converted Korean (she's Okinawan) chose this spot. Sharon did the ordering...........and MAN!!!!!!! Can she order! I thought I was dining with a Korean chick, and had to do a double take! What can I saw about this place............well Sharon surely hit it right on the spot! Food was delicious! We ordered a mixture of BBQ Chicken, Spicy Pork, & Kalbi Ribs. Lot of side dishes........I think they call it Banchan? And I must say the Korean Pancake thing was 1000 times better than the one I ate at Cafe Duck Butt. We also ordered a noodle dish too. At the end of dinner, the waitress gave us a very unique drink.........it came in a shot glass, and it was a sweet tasting cinnamon drink. I enjoyed that very much! Service was outstanding! Several waitresses were helping us, and they were very attentive. There is limited parking, but we went in early (5:30 PM) so there was on issue of getting a parking space. When we got there, the restaurant was about 1/2 full, but by the time we left the restaurant.............it was packed! The only negative thing I can say about this dinning experience is - when we received the sweet tasting cinnamon drinks, one of my friends did not drink her's. I had asked why? As it was real good.........but I also noticed something stuck on her glass............don't know what that was? At first I thought it was a "backwash" Lol!!!! But she didn't drink it, so I guess it wasn't "backwash". So my only conclusion is - I guess the glass was not washed clean, so something was stuck on it (see picture). Aside from that, everything else was PERFECT! I could take a point away from them, but the food was sooooooooooo tasty & the service was excellent!!!! I will surely be back to this place real soon. If you want premium price Korean food with sub par Korean food and terrible service then this is where you'll find it. Rarely do I not tip, but after this experience they didn't deserve a tip and that got their attention. The valet attendant was excellent, so I tipped him. I ordered a lot because my family was hungry and we wanted to try a bunch of food. To start off, the service was poor from start to finish. They sat us down and gave us the menus. 15 minutes goes by and I had to ring their bell service to have a waiter come by for our order. We didn't even get water served yet. The waters were served 5 minutes after our order was taken along with the side dishes. Another 10 minutes our mandoo came out, which was good. After 20 minutes, all of the food was brought out except the seafood pancake that we ordered because they forgot about it. I let that slide. My wife ordered a $20 bowl of kalbi soup that no crap only had fat. There was ZERO meat in her Kalbi soup. DO NOT ORDER KALBI SOUP FROM THIS PLACE. I think they cut the meat off and used it for someone else's dish and served her fat and the part that goes around the bone. All the other dishes were good. Next, we had run out of a few sides, so we requested some kimchee, fish cake, and bean sprouts. The waiter forgot, so we had to request it again after 15 minutes went by. The seafood pancake was served 15 minutes later. After that, no waiter until 20 minutes later and we get the sides. 20 minutes after we get our sides, we ask for containers to take out our food. No one comes by because they forgot. After 10 minutes rolls by I ring the service bell again and request for the containers again and the bill. I bought $124 worth of food and decided not to tip. When we leave, the lady has the nerve to come out and ask for a tip. I gave her a petty tip of $10. I told her your service was terrible. These folks only pay attention when the customer doesn't pay attention to the tip area on the bill. So sad and pathetic. Try pay attention to your service next time if you want me to pay attention to tipping you and STOP SERVING JUST FAT IN YOUR KALBI SOUP!!! read more

There are many Korean restaurants in Hawaii that are usually divided into two groups, authentic vs localized. Both are good, just different. Choi's Garden falls into the authentic category and they are good. Not the cheapest in cost but you can taste the difference in the quality and preparation of the dishes. A favorite is the stone pot bi bim bop which is different from the local style version. They give you a raw egg with the veggies and meat which is immediately stirred and folded into the rice with the red sauce. Our server was nice enough to mix it and told us that in Korea, it's the moms that do the mixing and folding and boy did she do a great job- most delicious bbb I have had. Really enjoyed it! The accompanying side veggies were great, not overpowering, seasoned just right, different from the local style stuff. Excellent all around, the food, service the atmosphere was perfect. I came here for a work lunch a while ago. It's kinda ticked away in a corner behind Walmart and also set back in its lot so its easy to miss. they have valet at night and also have Korean BBQ which I havent tried yet. I did have the bibimbap more than once. It was great and tasty. My wife got the vegetarian one and she loved it as well. There have a nice open modern interior. Choi's Garden has quietly reopened and is under new, and arguably, as good or better than the previous ownership. Nothing in the interior has changed. We had the MBR beef combo which was quite expensive but did not disappoint with the quality and quantity. The meat was excellent. Our waitress was also amazing and came frequently to our table and even cut the fat off of our ribeye. I'm so glad this restaurant is back. I like the food and we go here 3-4 times a month for the past 2 years. We've always had the same rude and unfriendly waitress. She acts like we are a pain in her ass for requesting water, another beer etc. Purposely will ignore us until we have to wave her down or push the service button a few times. The crazy thing is we only go during non-busy times!! Last time we came in with 5 adults and two toddlers for lunch. She shook her head that we only wanted to order five lunch specials. Great Korean food. This is one of the best places I have eaten for Korean food here in Honolulu. I am a big fan of banchan and theirs was excellent. Place was clean and had comfortable seating. Staff were all very friendly and attentive. Parking might be a challenge depending on time of day that you go. There is parking at near by structure associated with a big box store that you could park at if you didn't want to deal with the parking at the restaurant. It is authentic Korean and so is the spice level. If you are not into spicy food and can't handle any heat, be warned. The food is all very tasty and I plan to visit again. read more

Came here for lunch for the fourth time, and I have also been here for dinner twice. Always keep forgetting to check in though since whenever the food comes I just can't seem to wait!! Love both lunch and dinner but I prefer the lunch menu. They have healthy pot rice combos exclusively for lunch, and it comes with an entree of your choice, the healthy pot rice straight out of the pot and a hot stone soup of your choice. At first we tried to order one lunch special set to share that came with meat, stew, and the healthy stone pot rice but they told us we had to order at least two so we got two lunch entrees instead. The meat jun and spicy pork were both good. I personally liked the spicy pork more, the meat jun might be a little too oily for some people. A lot of side dishes came with the meal that were all good too and had a good variety of flavors: salty, sweet, spicy, sour, etc! we also got small soups that were also flavorful with seaweed and I think chicken. Food depends on who in your party has the spatula. Service brings you one cup of water in the beginning, takes your order, then will interact with you once you need your check. They don't do a good job of checking in on you throughout the meal. Feel free to grab a pitcher of water when you can and fill your own water. We had ordered over the phone and our order was ready for pickup in 15 minutes. I had ordered the spicy BBQ chicken and it was soooo good. It wasn't that spicy but the flavor was there. Each plate came with 3 sides that was dependent on the day from kimchee to bean sprouts to tofu to potatoes - all of which were given in good proportions and all cupped in foil so it would all stay organized. The place is recently renovated so it's big bright and clean unlike some of the older Korean joints around town. It's definitely a good place to go if you don't want to end up smelling like bbq meats and but want to eat some kalbi! Great lunch specials here from BBQ Kalbi to Cold Noodles or Soon Dubu. One of my favorite dishes here is the spicy stir fried squid! It's sweet and spicy and loaded with squid, cabbage, onions and zucchini! They also offer a large variety of panchans (small dish appetizers) with the food, so that's a nice little treat! After reading all the positive reviews about Choi's Garden on Yelp I was really looking forward to our foodie outing there for a Sunday lunch. My wife and I got there early and saw that the restaurant was just half full. All of sudden the server drops off 2 glasses of water and immediately leaves before we could order a beer. We tried to flag someone down but eventually I walked to the front of the restaurant and requested 2 beers. It seemed like we have to try and flag someone down for anything we wanted until we noticed the button on the table. Oops our bad but it would have been nice if they pointed it out for us. After all of our party were seated the barchan arrived and it was pretty decent. Nothing was fantastic but all dishes were good, We had the customary yakiniku meat combination for $58. It was OK but the sauce of oil and salt was unremarkable. I wish they gave you another sauce option because the sauce that was given didn't do much for the flavor of the meat. If you want lettuce to wrap your meats in you have to order it for $6. We also ordered 2 stone pot rice dishes, the raw beef bowl and the vegetable bowl. This was the first time ever that we ordered stone pot rice where they didn't mix it for you when they served you and we had to ask for spoons to mix it ourselves. Both rice dishes ended up kind of mushy. I love Kim Chee pancakes but the Choi's version was just ok, my favorite being the one served at Soon's in Waipahu. The best dish of the day was the stir fried octopus with vegetables. The octopus was unbelievable soft and juicy, I highly recommend this dish. The cold spicy black noodle was a little too sweet for our group so it was a unanimous thumbs down. We finished with the meat jun and that also was just OK. I didn't care for the shoyu sauce that came with it and the Kim Chee pancake, it tasted like it was just soy sauce with green onions. With tip our meal came out to $35 per person, so for that price for lunch I am more critical of the food and the service. If you choose to dine here they provide complimentary valet parking which is a big bonus because street parking is terrible in this area. read more
