They are actually pretty good and kalbi was as well. I will say it's definitely overpriced with a price tag of $66 for the combo for the meal you're actually getting. These dishes are meant to be affordable as not much go into it with very minimal labor. For the price you'd just go to a Korean restaurant and get hot soups with banchan, etc. you have to pay for everything separately here. Service was bad, staff came to get our order and would leave to pick up food for others and we had to call over so they can get our order in. The place is nothing out of the ordinary so the boring vibes, so next time I'll just get the cold noodle at a kbbq restaurant. When we asked for our check, our server told us the tip was already included even though gratuity is usually only added for parties of six or more. As a server myself, this was unbelievable. All she did was take our order and drop the food. she NEVER checked on us once. When I asked to remove the automatic tip so we could add our own, she gave us a nasty look. Totally unprofessional. A small pretty simple Korean restaurant, not many items to choose from. You can view the menu in my photos. They do have their own parking lot that share with a golf shop next door. I believe the cold Noodle is one of the very popular item because a lot of people ordered that noodle. Since this is the first time we visit this restaurant, the waitress was very nice and explain to us about the menu. We did try the ice cold noodle, it was surprisingly good and very refreshing. We ordered a combination dinner with the short rib and soft tofu soup. I must say the short rib is just average and the soft Tofu soup is very small but with a lot of tofu, the portion is like a side order. The small little side dishes are just OK in our opinion. If you're really enjoy a lot of good side dishes, you need to go try Hangang, they have so many side dishes. We don't think we will come back because the food is not that impressive. Location wise is definitely not ideal as the parking stalls are quite tight and located right next to the McKinley Car Wash which always has a crazy line extending onto Kapiolani Blvd. If you do decide to go, Sunday would be an ideal day when the car wash is closed. My family was really craving Naengmyeon so we all went for lunch. They offer two types of naengmyeon which is mul (water) or bibim (mixing). The mul naengmyeon is noodles in an ice slushy or broth with crushed ice. The bibim is more saucy and has the broth on the side. I personally prefer the bibim in terms of flavor wise since it won't be as diluted in the broth. They also give you extra vinegar and mustard to add to your broth as well. The mul naengmyeon but good but somehow I felt something was missing. They offer a combo where you get one choice of meat and a naengmyeon. We got the kalbi and spicy pork. The kalbi had a great flavor and was soft. The spicy pork was soft but was a little too salty with the sauce. Customer service wise, it was not great. There were times a lot of the workers were standing around in the back but rarely refilled our waters or asked if we needed anything else. Even the table next to us had to flag them down for more napkins. When we paid our bill, my sister said they were commenting about how much they got tipped in Korean. Such good cold noodles!! We and my friend split the deal with two bowls of cold noodle and bulgogi. Wanting something refreshing on a hot day, we stopped in for some cold noodle. The cold noodle was delicious -- refreshingly tasty with a bit of umami. I also liked that the ice was blended into a slush to make it easier to eat. We got the combination with two cold noodles and one kalbi. The kalbi was also good, but nothing extraordinary. I used to really like this place, but the kalbi is always tough and overcooked and the portions are still outrageously small. I understand that all food and labor prices have surged but honestly eating a bowl of buckwheat or yam noodles in cold broth with some veggies and a doll size portion of kimchi is not affordable any longer even when using inexpensive ingredients, and a rushed atmosphere and tip-hungry and tip-chasing servers does not make for a great dining memory. The food is one thing, the prices another, but to feel the animosity of the servers while being waited on and the not so subtle pressure when the bill and tip is being totaled is another unpleasant experience. We are steering towards Hangang for the same set of food, cold noodles and Kalbi, both for the quality of the food and the ambiance and pleasant experience of dining out in a customer-focused and customer-valued environment. My hubby and I needed a place to eat before a concert at the Blaisedell center. We had no reservation thus we happened to stumble upon this little Korean restaurant. Let me tell you that it did not disappoint. As we entered, we were quickly seated at a table and given a menu. The ambiance was quiet and had a homie feel to it. We ordered our food and waited a bit for everything to come out at one time. First we were served the banchan. It was delicious, fresh, and clean. We truly enjoyed every single dish and it met all our expectations. Next we were served the meat jun. It had just the right amount of egg to meat portions. Thus it felt light and not heavy or greasy. And last we ordered the seafood green onion pancake. Let me tell you this is something you need to order. As we were served this dish, one of the kind servers cut up our pancake table side for us to eat fresh and had bite sized pieces. Came to have naengmyeon because I recently binged on both seasons of Tale of the Nine Tailed and am super curious to have a taste, and my coworker really likes the naengmyeon here. We arrived a little before 1:00pm on a Monday. The restaurant was somewhat busy but we were seated right away. We ordered the set A (2 naengmyeon + kalbi). The kalbi came first, sizzling on a hot plate with sliced onions, smelling sooo good. We were given two ban chans (pickled cabbage and pickled radish sheet). The noodles were brought out not long after and our waitress cut the noodles for us without prompting. The broth was tasty! Light and vinegary. There was some slush which sounds weird but fortunately the broth was not oily so at least there wasn't bits of solidified oil floating about. The noodles were so chewy! The combination of chewy noodles and sliced crunchy cucumbers was interesting. I didn't care for the thin sliced boiled beef tho, but maybe I should have dunked it in the broth. The kalbi was so flavorful and tender and delicious. Kind of pricey tho (Ala carte price was $35.95). The set was $54.95 ++ I think. Definitely an occasional splurge. This place is easy to find, has ample parking, the place is simple and clean, and the food is good! We typically get the two cold noodles with kalbi and seafood pancake. The cold noodles was black in color and was served in a water vinegar broth was good. Their kalbi had a good taste and the tofu soup was just a bit spicy for me even though we ordered it mild spice. The pan fried mandoo wasn't homemade we think it was pre made or pre brought. All in all the food was different then other restaurants we tried. Just about 12:00 or so the restaurant got crowded. The Kalbi was tasty. unfortunately, it wasn't tender. We ordered the tofu soup at the regular spice level. It was delicious but overly hot for our pallets . Yu Chun Korean Restaurant has been advertised as specializing in "Black Noodles" or naengmyeon (Cold Noodles) for years! Does it live up to that expectation? I've been here twice ordering the same, Black Noodle with Spicy Sauce. It's like a bibim naengmyeon with cold broth. This particular noodle is made with arrowroot starch to give it a very nice silky smooth texture, and a chewy bite in a good way. The spicy sauce is delicious! Sweet, savory with a hint of Korean spice. The broth was tasty and hearty. It comes with two very thin slices of beef, strips of cucumber, Kimchi radish slices, and half a hard boiled egg. Plus a side of pickled radish. Now the topping does seem very little, but that's how it is. This dish is showcasing the noodles, and does a great job at that. Personally, I'd rather have a side of kimchi than more pickled radish. Overall, I'm a fan of Yu Chun's naengmyeon! Love the noodles! Love the sauce and broth! Service is great. The soup in the naengmyeon had a really strong beef flavor, excellent! And I love how they have it iced so it's a slushie basically. The noodles were way too thick for my liking. However the service was what I was quite disappointed. Literally they just take your order and serve and only when you ask for something they will follow up. Service was below average, they looked like they didn't care. The worst part is that when we paid for our food, they were insisting 15% tip. Obviously it is not by law to comply what they request but the way they presented their argument for a 15% tip was atrocious.
