We love this Chompies location, and have been customers for several years. This morning, I had the Greek feta omelet with hash browns and toasted rye, husband had the protein pancakes. As always, the food is hot and delicious. They were very busy, but we were seated right away, and we didn't wait long for our meals. If you're lucky enough to have Barbi as your server, it makes the whole experience at this location that much more enjoyable. She's a gem who has been a server here for, as she says, "100 years." lol We love her. read more

This place is great for many reasons: *the best olive pimento cream cheese *the best everything bagel *the best eggs Benedict (their hollandaise is AMAZING!) *the best rainbow cookies (looks more like a rainbow petit four without the frosting draped over) *great potato pancakes Portion sizes are large. Staff is friendly. Highly recommend coming here for breakfast and then leaving with something from the bakery for dessert. The manager is the worst the food is horrible and the prices are ridiculous don't go unless you wanna do them a favor

"No worries" or "Thank YOU!" There was a little bit of problem with my online order not being ready when it was supposed to be. A "manager" stepped in and was able to get me my food relatively quickly, since the restaurant was not busy that afternoon. I was a little disappointed when he handed me my food, and I said "thank you" And his reply was "no worries" No worries for him I guess since he was not the one who was inconvenienced. Chompies is not an inexpensive place to eat. It would've been nice if he would've said something like "I am sorry about the delay... Thank you!" Been going to Chompies on Shea for years and it has been our goto place for a nice Christmas breakfast. But this Christmas, as we were relaxing, sipping coffee and waiting for food to arrive, a man came in with his his little dog to sit and have breakfast. The main didn't appear to have any handicap nor was the dog wearing any identification as a service dog. The hostess, said nothing and sat the man with his dog a small booth by the window. I thought there was an ordinance against animals being allowed where food is being served or sold? Perhaps the new owners see things differently. On a positive note, our service from Shea was great. Well, I have been a loyal customer at Chompie's for the past 10 years since we moved here. I am absolutely astonished at there customer service I encountered his morning. I went in to purchase my favorite items for take out and I mentioned to the staff that 10 days prior my wife brought home some asst food items plus a 1/2 pound of rugelach and that the 1/2 pound (maybe 6 pieces?), where hard and I had to throw them away and asked if she would replace them. The staff member replied that the policy is that I needed to call when I notice it and also bring in a receipt. I was astonished that for 6 pieces of dough, they would not accommodate my disappointment. 6 pieces! As far as a receipt, I am a rewards member and I informed her she could look up my orders by my phone number. She acted like I was trying to cheat them. (6 pieces!) Its a shame as I love their food , but was totally turned off to their attitude and customer service customer service. Bye Bye Chompie's 6 Pieces of Dough to loose a lifetime customer. This past week we decided to go back to Chompie's for a big bowl of matzo ball soup. We couldn't believe how awful the soup was! Our immediate thought was, did Chompie's sell out! Now we find out they did sell the restaurant in 2021 to JRI Hospitality. Needless to say the quality has changed. The chicken in the soup was replaced with cold cut meat! It barely had taste. Maybe it had four small carrot slices at most in a large bowl and smaller matzo balls. The dining room was quite empty for early evening and looked a bit unclean. Only one server was on duty. The new owners should think twice before reducing the quality of this legendary restaurant that was the favorite deli for years in the Valley of the Sun! read more

Always my go to when I or loved ones are feeling down (as horrible as this may sound, I actually get excited when they get even the slightest bit ill because I use it as my excuse to go to Chompies: "sore throat? I got you...be back in jiff with some chicken noodle soup. Stuffy nose? Nothing better than a corned beef sandwich with some deli mustard to clear that right up! Stubbed your toe? Well then you my dear are in dire need of the best Monte Cristo sandwich this side of the Mississippi!"). Truly a gem and even with their new relocation off of Cactus and the 51, they are accessible all over the valley. Can be just at certain times and days but that is only indicative of the quality and (as opposed as it sounds for those of you who have only heard of the way prowl are in NYC..you gotta live there for a bit to know they are some of the nicest people around. Trust me) down home, welcoming, NYC deli atmosphere they seem to implant into exam of their restaurants (and yes. I have been to all of them in the valley). Definitely a must try, and try, and try again as their menu is also indicative of a New York deli. Everything from A to Z and it's all good. I can't say enough about Chompie's so I'll make this a short review. First thing: seating. Very comfortable sturdy chairs to hold large and wide bodies like mine. Half booths are good except tables are very close together so sit on the outside so your body doesn't scrape the other table. Big folks, y'all know what I mean right? Butt scrapes the table behind you, stomach pushes on the table in front. I try different plates each time I visit, this time was no exception. Today I had the Sharshava (spelling?) which comes in a skillet with different peppers, a tomatoey sauce and bits of feta cheese spread all over. Two eggs your choice, two huge slices of toast and you're done. This dish was soooo good! It reminds me of a Middle Eastern dish and although it has peppers, it's not spicy. The sourness of the feta really makes this dish pop with flavor and using the bread to sop up that broth/juice is simply delightful. My sister had the Chompie's Benedict something or other. It looked good but I wouldn't know. I'm one of those who can't eat runny egg yolks. Ewwww! When I see runny yolks I'm gonna start running. Afterward, I went to the bakery counter for cookies and bagels. Have you ever visited a bakery and just wanted one or two of everything? Yeah, that's always me when I get to Chompie's. Alas, my pocketbook and my A1C prevent me from going crazy so I limited myself. And because I checked in via the YELP app, I received a free black and white cookie! So disappointed. I have been going to Chompie's since they were on 32nd Street Near Shea back in 1985. I wanted a corned beef on rye like I used to get. First a full sandwich was $19.00.!!!!! I still wanted it. An extra slice if rye would be another $1. They always charged something for it but $1 for one slice? The sandwich came and the corned beef no longer tasted like homemade kosher beef. Instead it tasted like pre-made elsewhere meat. It was dry, no fat whatever, and no taste. It was terrible. Then we found out the place is no longer owned by the family but some corporation that obviously doesn't care what the food used to taste like. They are going to remodel the bathrooms but they should redo the whole delapidated place and bring back the good meals. Chicken liver had sugar in it. Tongue sandwich with 1/4 lb of tongue . Came with FREE fries ! All for just $24.99. This too can be yours. Egg salad looked like the consistency of applesauce and was mostly egg whites and Mayo. Said we could sit outside with small dog who was in a case and she yelped a little and they went nuts saying everyone is complaining etc and we saw no one complaining outside and then they try to force pack us up when we refused and dog was not barking anymore they just said don't ever come back with dog again.Very unprofessional overreaction! read more

Best Jewish deli I've ever had! Food was fantastic, order was done correctly and on time. Everything the customer would ask for.

I enjoyed my breakfast at Chompie's with one exception. Our omelets were large and they didn't skimp on the fillings. I like that you can select any type of bagel and cream cheese with your omelet. They really do have great bagels! My one issue was that the mimosa flight looked and tasted like it was almost all juice with very little champagne. If I wanted juice, I would have ordered juice. If I'm paying the cost for a mimosa, I expect it to have a decent amount of champagne in it. That part was really disappointing. Our server was nice, but it took her a long time to bring our bill when she could see that someone had cleared our plates a while ago and we were just sitting at the table doing nothing. Overall, an okay place for breakfast, but there are other places I prefer. read more

We used to live near the Shea location and got deli, bread, and cookies to take home weekly since I went to other stores in that shopping center several times a week. We moved out of state but came here for Thanksgiving and decided to pick up food for dinner tonight.. We drove from where we were staying inCave Creek just to get PASTRAMI, rye bread, coleslaw, and cookies. We got back to find we had ROAST BEEF. We called the store and the woman told us we must be wrong. we told her the package said pastrami but it was ROAST BEEF. We asked if they could deliver the PASTRAMI that was in our $75 order. She refused to do that since it was too far. We did not drive 25 minutes each way to get ROAST BEEF and we wanted it refunded to our credit card. She said we were Liars since they did not cut Roast beef today. We then drove back to Chompies , over a hour round trip, with the ROAST Beef to prove to them they gave us Roast BEEF, which was not even cut today, unless they lied to us. She took back the Roast Beef and we got Pastrami and a free box of cookies, dinner delayed over an hour of driving plus wait time at the deli counter, and rude customer service on the phone. It costs $9.99 and you get one scoop, slightly larger than a golf ball. Call and complain. They say it's 1/4 pound. Well, at that rate, four scoops (one pound) would cost $39.96. Wanna get hosed some more? Order cole slaw. You will receive a tiny (and I mean tiny) container for $2.49. I checked and found that a head of cabbage at a grocery store costs $1.73. I ordered a half of a pastrami sandwich with matzah ball soup and Cole slaw. I'll start by saying the soup was excellent. The bread on the sandwich was hard and stale and the pastrami was cold. I told the waiter and he said he would bring me new bread. After 10 minutes He came by and asked me if I wanted a to go box for the sandwich. I said no and reminded him about the bread. He went and got it quickly and was going to leave it on the table for me to reassemble myself. I looked at him like he was crazy and he asked if I wanted him to take it back to the kitchen for them to do. When the sandwich finally came back it was hot and very good. Terribly disappointed after stopping here today. I came to get a couple of bagels and maybe some chopped chicken liver spread. There was only one person in line ahead of me. He was ordering sandwiches and seem to be taking a while. There were several other staff who were doing things such as putting together platters or making some food but no one offered to see if they could help me quickly. The woman who was waiting on the gentleman in front of me did not even acknowledge me. I waited for about 10 minutes after which point I decided I couldn't wait any longer. Chompies is always high quality well made deli food. My mom's favorite are the sliders with brisket, gravy and a potato pancake and we usually split that. The fries are actually potato wedges (not my jam) just fyi in case you actually want fries. There are multiple other side options though. Iced tea is excellent as well as the baked goods. I don't think I've ever had bad service at any of the Chompies locations and I've been going for years to all the locations. Definitely a great place to go! read more

Wow wow wow. Best Jewish deli I've ever been too and I grew up on this food. Matzah ball soup was perfect. Kreplach soup was even better. Meat knish was about as good a meat knish as you could possibly imagine. The corned beef was heavenly. The potato pancakes and wedge fries were delicious and not greasy. The desserts (rainbow cake and rugelah) were on point, so much so that I purchased $110 worth on my way out the door. I wish we hadn't chompies in southwest Florida ! Until then, I'll just have to fly out to Arizona for this incredibly rare cuisine. read more

Being from the East Coast, I can always appreciate good deli food. Every now and again I crave a good old-fashioned East Coast fish fry specifically anything from Buffalo or like buffalo New York. Yes there are many choices in the Phoenix area but I'm always looking for that special place. I decided to try chompies fish fry this past Friday. I don't know if this is just an Easter thing or if it's available year-round but I need to say it was absolutely delicious. I ordered online and picked it up to go. I even reheated it today for my dinner. It had three good size chunks of batter, fried cod, a very large portion of fresh potato wedges, fried a good size cup of delicious coleslaw, and it really was good because I don't like onions in my coleslaw. This was excellent.but it doesn't have to end with the fish fry. Anything I've had in there in the past or present is always well prepared and healthy portions. I absolutely love their bagels and bagel sandwiches. You can't go wrong with anything you order. I called ahead to place my order though now I can order online and went to pick it up.
