Overall our experiences at Chompie's have been fine. They do have good food and a great bakery selection, but we can't justify going often because of the price. I love their fried fish, but $25 for all you can eat is insane. The staff is hit or miss. Some people are really nice and others act like you're inconveniencing them by being a patron. If you're wanting really good deli I'd choose Miracle Mile in Phoenix over Chompies any day. read more

Unfortunately, my recent visit left me feeling like something has changed--and not for the better. The Matzo Ball Soup, once rich and heartwarming, now tasted more like salty broth with less depth and less flavor in the matzo ball itself. The macaroni salad, typically creamy and flavorful, was just not up to par. The stuffed cabbage--a longtime favorite of my wifels was over-seasoned, and the texture just didn't hit the same comforting notes it used to. COOKIES DISAPPOINT consistently, but good sour dough bread My husband always buys a loaf of the sour dough bread here when he gets his avocados next door at Sprouts, so obviously he would recommend that. But I do not recommend any of the cookies. The butter cookies with the chocolate and sprinkle ends (as well as all other cookies) have a stale taste or a taste as if you left bland cookies uncovered in a refrigerator full of other food. They do not taste like butter cookies at all, and the chocolate and sprinkle ends just taste the same as the rest instead of like chocolate. The brown ones (that look like they would be chocolate) taste exactly the same. Blindfolded, you would not know what color was which. They are $8.82 for 8 (two-inch) bland or stale cookies. I think that they should at least taste like butter cookies, and the dipped chocolate ends should taste like nice quality chocolate for $1.10 each. I've had their Palmier/Elephant Ear cookies, and I definitely do not recommend those. Instead of tasting like buttery puff pastry, they are again stale-tasting with the same flavor as all of their other cookies as if they are all kept together in the same display case (which they are). Also, instead of being flaky like puff pastry, they were tough like they had been in the refrigerator or humidity and had lost the crispiness. So my tip for you is: If you would like to buy some of their cookies, buy ONE first and try it. read more

Catering is an absolute disaster. Been ordering from them since 2016. Have order Thanksgiving and Xmas for a senior home with no problem,but their Passover catering is a complete disaster. The last 3 years, we call in the order 2 weeks in advance. Give our credit card. Call the Saturday before to confirm. Call the night before to confirm. Then, when we show up they cannot find the order. My husband, who is a CEO, ends up wasting 60-90 minutes waiting while they start the order from scratch. Happened AGAIN this year! He missed 2 important conference calls because of their chaos. Delicious food but really needs to be more organized. After 10 years may switch all our future orders to different caterer. We've been to Chompie's several times over the years and are never disappointed. No exception to that last week, when we stopped for a quick lunch with our grandson. The kitchen made a minor mistake on my wife's Cobb Salad that she had requested without meat. They brought her a new salad right away, and we were barely inconvenienced at all. Yet they completely comped all our food! Service was generally excellent, and we were happy with all our food, including an omelet, a sandwich, etc. While there, we also bought a blueberry cheese coffee cake to have for my birthday the following day. They don't take people in order very rude point their finger at you not impressed. My friend and I stopped by for lunch last week, it was a beautiful day out, so we sat outside. Having been here before and sitting inside, service is much slower and not as attentive. Kelley our server outside, was great. We ordered the Chopped Liver appetizer and a full Hot Pastrami Sandwich on Seeded Rye with a side of Fries. The half and half cookies have become a tradition in my family to give for half birthdays- they're nice and moist. We came for st patty's day and got a nice heap of corned beef for the holiday. Very large menu, really high pricing however, that seems to be the norm these days. The Reuben half sandwich was as delicious as expected and the matzoh ball itself and the broth needed a lot more salt. Since we are used to independent Jewish delis in Chicago, New York and Palm Springs and not chains, it didn't feel quite "right" but the food was good and the service was fairly good as well despite their forgetting to bring an order of French toast to share at the table. They brought it after it was pointed out and that tasted fabulous. If in the mood for deli favorites like these, we might return, unless we find another independent, and very authentic Jewish deli in the area. read more

This visit to Chompie's has been more than a decade in the making. Ever since I saw it on Man v. Food back in college, I knew one day if I was ever in Phoenix, I would need to visit and get some of their "Original Jewish Sliders." These are challah bread rolls, packed with brisket, potato latke, and jack cheese, served with a delicious brown gravy for dipping. I ordered mine with a side of onion straws just like in the show (these came with a tasty chipotle ranch dip too). First off, I have no idea how Adam in the show ate 11 of these things (still failing the challenge), because 3 of these puppies made me nice and full. The thick pillowy challah bread combining with the starchy fried potatoes and hearty brisket will get you topped off in a hurry. The gravy just adds that extra burst of flavor and moisture that really sets it all off, making this one hell of a good sandwich. Ontop of this, my service was excellent. I had a young waitress named "Key" I believe, and she was super friendly and seemed excited that I was finally getting to have this indulgence I've waited to long for. In general, the people dining around me seemed to be regulars, many engaged in conversation with their servers. Good sign for this place. The shop was also stocked fully with classic deli favorites and baked goods, if I lived in the area, this would be a regular stop for me. This has been a family favorite since before I was born. When visiting Phoenix, eating at Chompie's has always been on the list of things to do before we leave town. We have seen ownership and location change, but it is still fantastic. They have a huge menu for breakfast and another one for lunch/dinner. The sheer diversity would make you think it's hard to do anything super well, so I'd say stick with the deli classics and you'll be pleased. This last time I got the Lox and Loaded and split the Jewish Sliders and I loved them both. The atmosphere is a unique blend between the desert and New York City and the staff are always great. Last night was turkey sliders and soup. Last week it was a Rosh Hashanah meal to celebrate the first night. The Tempe location is permanently closed so I drive to the Shea Blvd store. This is our first time at Chompie's. The restaurant offers a wide variety of items on their menu, which made choosing our dishes exciting. My husband ordered the Straw Shortcake pancake which was not overly sweet, just perfect, and the flavor was divine. I ordered the Chorizo Con Queso Omelet and it was an absolute delight. Bursting with savory goodness, the omelet was generously filled with onions, green peppers, and tasty chorizo, all topped off with a layer of melted cheese. They also have a wide variety of bakery items which look super yum. We got the elephant ears and the lemon pound cake Chompie's has won us over, and we can't wait to return to explore more items on their menu. This is always the place I go whenever I am in Scottsdale. It is something I look forward to. I love the food, friendlinest, and just everything. I can't complain about anything whenever I've gone the past few years. Once in a while I have to get a check-in bag because of the amount of mustard bottles, breads, and desserts I want to take home to share with everyone. Their matso ball soup is amazing and it is something I always get...unless I am enjoying breakfast. It definitely is the best since there isn't a good soup in my current area. They have great gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and keto-friendly options. There is a lot to choose from so you don't feel stuck with limited items yet once you find something you love it is hard to stop picking that meal. The portions are big and I try to eat it all so I don't have any left overs unless I am staying overnight. You pass a bunch of photos when you have to use the bathroom of all the celebrities that have eaten there which is fun. The staff are super friendly and attentive I've never needed to ask for a refill or anything. They've made us laugh so much I can't have a bad day in Scottsdale if I'm eating there. Whenever I have to get something done at Mayo I stay a few days. I usually go there twice. Howard is great at keeping things clean. Shea and Austin have been our past waiters and they make us laugh and have a good time. I would use everyone's name if I noted them throughout the years. I have a lot of photos of the location since whenever I get home I always get asked how Chompie's was since it's obvious we went there. The service is great. The man who waited on me let me know I could get 13 bagels for the same price with a special they have (I was getting 6, with two cream cheese containers). I appreciated that a lot. I froze the extras and the kids will eat them throughout the week. Service was quick also, and the gentleman who waited on me was helpful and pleasant. Idk his name but he looked to be about 60ish, and the receipt says "Main C"? Prices are reasonable. The cream cheese is very good. I got a plain and a veggie. As an expert in kosher "style" cuisine I was looking forward to having lunch there. Unfortunately the service, arrogant staff, and unsanitary conditions made it extremely difficult to enjoy. The tables were not clean and the waiters were slow and rude. The food was "inferior" to what I expected. The condition of the condiment dispensers were unsanitary and disgusting. The pickles were served in dirty bowls and were soggy. Thinking that the management would be interested in my comments I brought it up to her.
