The service is great. The man who waited on me let me know I could get 13 bagels for the same price with a special they have (I was getting 6, with two cream cheese containers). I appreciated that a lot. I froze the extras and the kids will eat them throughout the week. Service was quick also, and the gentleman who waited on me was helpful and pleasant. The soup I ordered came out very quickly, and with a thin toasted bagel slice, like a large crouton! Split pea soup was almost too thick, but delicious and just right temp. I ordered a brisket dinner to go for my husband. It was amazing! Sliced thin, so tender and flavorful. You get 2 sides and your choice of salad or soup. For myself I ordered a Shirli's LA Jolla salad. The salad was huge. More than enough for 2 people. I did enjoy my salad even though the chicken slices were on the dry side. Ohhhh Chompie's, how I love you! I was born and raised on Chompie's because my dad is the biggest fan! Unfortunately we don't live super near any of their locations but when we're close to one, you better believe that I'm stopping in, even if it's just for a dozen bagels and a black and white cookie! I had an ultrasound in the area last week and my husband and I couldn't pass up a lunch date at one of our fav spots! We split a corned beef sandwich with coleslaw and swiss on it and it was SO DREAMY! We forgot how much we loved this sandwich. They're HUGE which is why we split, especially if you get some pickles to nosh on as well! I love their wedge fries and we split a side of cottage cheese, too. Before heading home, I snagged bagels (my pregnancy craving and these are the best!!) and a black and white cookie. Their baked goods are INSANE as well. We came to purchase a bag of bagels to-go. We looked around at all the yummy treats in the display case at the bakery section. We were there for a good 5 minutes and received zero help from anyone working here. We have visited all locations in the PHX area over the years. Glad to see this one with a fresh updated interior. Food: Consistent good deli staples. Large menu full of lunch and breakfast options, so many, that you get 2 menus! Here's a rundown of the most recent visit: - Liver and Onions, clean plate club member loved it! - Chicken Schnitzel, a bit on the thin side, but overall good. - Broadway brisket, the wife liked hers and could only finish a half. - Camelback Chorizo for jr, he polished it off, but the chorizo was an overcooked patty and he pulled it off his second helf. - Park Ave Pastrami, yours truly feels the pastrami here is the best in AZ. The sandwich overall was very good, but seemed dry; could have used some cream cheese. The bagel loaded sandwiches I feel they "stole" from Bagels 'N Bialys, but they do a good job here as well. LOVE the half sour pickles here, so if you are a fan, make sure to get some. Dessert: This is where it somewhat falls apart from a price/quality perspective. They have a massive bakery, but most items look way better than they taste: - Napoleon: Too much cream to pastry ratio. Was ok, but wouldn't get again. - Carrot Cake: good overall - Cannoli: $6.99 for a WAY too small portion. I'm in Scottsdale for business and we tried Chompies. It's awesome! I had the half sandwich & soup and it was the perfect size. I had the pastrami on a sweet roll with Thousand Island on the side since I don't like mustard. It came with a side of cole slaw and it was great. Mildly sweet, which is what I like. The soup was chicken noodle with kregle (not sure if I spelled that correctly) and it was my first time trying it. It's like a ravioli noodle with ground Turkey in it. We've been coming to chompies for over 25 years. Today we got the best looking Nock platter ever. They carefully and artistically shingled the slices of locks. And the past we have had bits and pieces that were not appropriate for a platter. My wife also says they have the best Pepsi cola in town, L O L. Our server Mila was wonderful and she remembered to bring me a spoon from my coffee which nobody else does I had the stuff derma with gravy. It had way too much carrots for my liking. Being raised in NY/NJ and then visiting a bagel joint in the Phoenix area hits different. haha I ended up dining here on account of a business trip, but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meal! Met here for lunch- have been to the Paradise Valley location several times. This was the first time to this location and it was consistent with one expects from Chompies- large portions, good food and pastries. It reminds me of going to grandmas for a meal- you get served way too much food!! Our server was pleasant and helpful with our choices. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich and my friend had the protein pancakes. Both our meals were very good- nicely presented on the plate. What happened here? Took a friend to breakfast and she ended up not eating her breakfast -- despite being SPECIFIC about her order. Waitress appeared to be unconcerned about what happened with my friend's order. She "graciously" deducted $3 from our bill for the uneaten meal. Am very reticent to return to this location as it was such a disappointment. I was so embarrassed for my friend since I was treating her to breakfast. I'd like to try them next time with just some butter and jam. Eggs were scrambled and cooked well. I asked for extra crispy home fries and they delivered. Crispy and well seasoned. Little on the greasy side. The side order of sausage although plump, it was a little over priced and they were mushy and not a lot of flavor. Maybe bacon next time. The coffee was pretty diner-ish. The bathroom was downright scary. Felt dirty after being in there. Place is ready for a makeover or give it up. Chopped liver sandwich is off the menu but our harried waitress had them make it for me anyway. Not fresh! Gotta find a new place for trips to the city from Tucson. As always, Chompies was...okay. Granted, I'm spoiled deli-wise from eating at the legendary Corky and Lenny's in Cleveland, Ohio, for years. The tuna salad was solid, though heavy on the onions. The corned beef was pretty fatty (should have ordered lean) but my son loved his pancakes. Again, solid food but nothing spectacular. Our server was great and the overall service was strong. Once our favorite dining spot in Phoenix/Scottsdale... Our recent visit the last week in January during our staycation trip to North Scottsdale to Chompie's was absolutely terrible. My small bowl of Sweet & Sour Soup was now a cup, the pastrami sandwich was horrible (grisly unchewable meat, did not taste like fresh sliced deli cured spiced, and smoked beef brisket meat (thought I was at Arby's), one thin sliced bagel chip with rancid tasting butter or some other off spread, way too expensive for this awful sandwich, and missing our favorite, NO "NEW" PICKLES and an assortment of bagel chips served for diners when first seated. Also the menu did not have any of our other preferred items; salami and eggs, whole smoked white fish, and NO BEEF TONGUE!!!!! Why make a trip up from Tucson for this very disappointing and very expensive food. And don't get me started on the server.... if he ever smile or showed any personality it would be a miracle. No wonder the dining room for dinner was empty. No value here or quality good food. read more
