Fantastic. Husband and I entered and ordered at the counter. It was pretty loud, so we didn't hear what the other ordered. We grabbed a bottle of water and cups and headed to the only open seats at the back counter. The back counter has 3 seats that face the charcoal pit. My husband was captivated by the spits filled with chickens, which we called "chicken TV." Turns out we ordered way too much food, but it was all delicious. We each got a quarter chicken--one dark meat, one white meat. We also ordered 4 sides and were accidentally served a 5th. Next time we'll know to order two sides total and maybe order more chicken. Chicken was excellent: tender, juicy, flavorful. Not sure where they source their birds, but they do it right. Chimichurri sauce was a nice touch, but this chicken doesn't really need any additional sauce. The sides: roasted vegetables with dukkah had a smoky flavor and were cooked perfectly--possibly my favorite side; apple slaw was vinegar-y, crisp, and delicious; roasted potatoes were good (some might say they could have been roasted a bit longer) and tossed in delicious seasoning--maybe Chook salt; potatoes and gravy were whipped to a silky smooth texture with really fresh potato flavor; macaroni and cheese was a hearty orrechiette pasta with classic bechamel cheese sauce and breadcrumbs. Love that they serve drinks in glass not plastic and offer fully compostable takeaway. Service was fast and friendly--on a busy Friday they kept things moving but never rushed us. I was impressed with the expediter and the person overseeing the chickens (chicken-isto? chicken master?). The sandwiches were fine, but they were very gooey and the chicken had some hard bits in it and you just don't want that hidden in a sandwich. Okay now the good stuff: the chicken meal. You get two big pieces of chicken- delicious, and two sides. We always split this between the two of us and get the Mac and cheese (yum!) and the mashed potatoes. The place is only 2 weeks old and its running crazy already. Hit it up on an off-hour for a solo late lunch on a Sunday and there was barely an empty table in the place. Prepared myself by reading all of my Yelp-buddies' reviews beforehand so I was ready to order at the walk-up fast-casual service booth with no delay. Had a half chicken with a side of roasted vegetables along with a roll and a beer. Really very tastey. The skin is charred (but unfortunately not crispy). The chicken however is extremely moist and flavorful. They serve it with a bottled rub at each table that's a bit salty and paprika-ish and yummy. I had the piri-piri sauce which seemed to be made of pureed peppers and added a neat kick to the chicken. The price point is reasonable and I took home enough leftovers for a second meal, or, if my honey hadn't gone out partying with her bud-ettes we could easily have had enough for us both for under $15 a person including a drink each. Definitely a place worth returning to (and that shouldn't be a surprise since it's a cool concept restaurant started up by the owners of Fruition and the Mercantile, two of Denver's most successful culinary ventures). The star is of course the chicken cooked over coals. Chook is Australian slang for chicken. This is an upscale fast-casual spot. A whole juicy chicken will run you $20. Half $13. 1/4 dark $6 and white $8. You get a choice of one their tasty sauce. Gravy. Chimichurri. Piri-Piri. I tried their chicken, Mac and cheese and their Booyah Stew. It's basically a stew with pulled chicken and all the charred mixed vegetables. It's really good. Clear broth tastes healthy and the charred taste of veggies distinctly pops. That gives it an exceptional taste. The quinoa gives it that added texture! Check out the Booyah Kit $10 to take home. It's the innovative approach to addressing leftovers. Comes with instructions of course! Their cocktails are called the Happy Pots . I noticed an Old Fashioned, Spot-On Negroni, Dry Gin Martini and Dirty Vodka. That contraption called the spit is directly from Australia. Uniquely very well suited to do what it's intended to do. Roast chicken well and keep them perfectly in place! Super underwhelmed. Surprised because the reviews are amazing. Fiancé got the avocado chicken sandwich. It says "pulled rotisserie chicken" in the description, but it was basically a nearly chicken-less chicken salad with giant slices of cucumbers that were awkward to eat and nothing to bring it all together. They should explain that it's a chicken salad, not "pulled rotisserie chicken". 2/10 for that. I got the Italian veggie Sanga sandwich. Super weak. Ordered for the second time in a year, I live alone and this is the best deal in the city for a small thanksgiving meal. I shouldnt say small because it's for 4 people, but for the price it works out great. If ur reading this and thinking about ordering it I would say go for it. The pick up will be the day before thanksgiving so you gotta remember this is reheated. Don't let your chicken dry out and add some chicken stock to the pan before you reheat the chicken, it will absorb it and become very moist. Winner winner chicken dinner! This place can declare victory over rotisserie chicken. Anyone wondering what "Chook" means? Well surprise...it's Aussie slang for a chicken. My family loves this place, their food is just so comforting. The chicken by itself has a great flavor but hands down we all love to tear into that bird with a side of sauce. We've tried both the piri-piri and macha because we like it spicy and both are solid. I think I may enjoy the sides even more than the chicken, their mash potatoes and gravy, seasoned corn on the cob, booyah stew are all really great. If I had to go negative, I'd say they need to find a bigger vessel for their gravy because you need a lot more than a tablespoon or two for their no doubt butter laden mash. However, when asked service was quick to provide an additional dollop of gravy. Their location on Pearl is not very big so during peak eating times you need to wait for a table but that said they seem to do a lot of take out business. Bonus that they have a kid's corner with a magnetic chalk wall, games, books, small chairs and a table. And more good news for folks living in the Hale neighborhood, looks like Chook is opening up a second location on 8th Avenue as signage is up. read more

Best. Chicken. Hands. Down. It's juicy, flavorful, and falls right off the bind. And the side dishes and salads are all amazing, too! We live in Castle Rock, but we have worked Chook into our favorite Denver restaurant rotation. We've been there no less than five times now (plus we have done take out from them several times as well--it always travels really well and is still delicious after a 30+ minute car ride), and my husband and I like to split a quarter white with the chimichurri sauce, a small order of potato wedges with piri-piri sauce for dipping, and panzanella salad. The panzanella salad *might* be a summer-only side dish, but it is to absolutely die for with a flavorful, tangy dressing and juicy heirloom tomatoes, and I hope they add it permanently to their line up and/or bring it back seasonally. It is the bomb. The macaroni and cheese, charred mixed veggies, and pacific Hawaiian rolls are all seriously great too--and they are all things we get if we are dining there with a larger group. Also, if we are dining in, we get a round of their margaritas as well--they are deceptively small but maybe our favorite marg in all of Denver? You'll have a hard time sticking to just one. We love everything about this place. My husband is more of a steak and burgers guy, but even he loves Chook. His proclamation of "I could sit there all day and eat their food and drink those margaritas" after eating there last night is what drove me to write this review. The only thing to keep in mind is that it is a very small location with not much seating and it gets packed quickly during lunch and dinner--so we just go there during their off times (think 2pm to 5pm on the weekends) and it's no problem. The size of the roasted chicken was slightly smaller than we expected but right around the size of most rotisserie chickens. The seasoning was good. The avocado chicken sandwich was a big hit! Having had Chook Charcoal Chicken bookmarked for a bit, the brother, his gf and I finally decided to stop in for a late lunch on a Monday. First of all, this little shop off of Pearl St. is so super hip. A very unique see-through half wall of black, charcoal consumed wood logs greets you as soon as you walk in. Gorgeous and simple tiled walls framing the juicy, turning rotisserie chickens and another vibrant collage taking up an entire wall in the back. There's also a little children's reading nook hidden in the back. Super smart and adorable space - A+ on all the aesthetics. And of course, the food. Yes, the chicken is a little pricey, but they are locally sourced and ethically raised. Juicy, tender, and flavored well. Mind-blowing chicken? Not necessarily, but it was solid and the chimichurri and piri-piri sauces both bathable (not a word, but if you think it means able to be bathed in, you are correct). The rest of the table tried their Avocado Chicken sandwich which is the same yummy chicken, pulled, plus a healthy layer of avocado with cucumbers, lime aioli all sandwiched between grilled ciabatta. So delicious and fresh - the cucumbers and avocado cooling it all the way down to your happy belly. Let me tell you about the hands down star of the lunch show though: the mac and cheese. It is by far the best one I've had at a restaurant in a long time, fast-casual or not. It's a white cheddar mac and cheese, so it's perfectly sharp and creamy with a sprinkling of bread crumbs on top for that little bit of crunch you're looking for. Their mashed potatoes are also pretty bomb. I'm not even a gravy person really, but chook serves their velvety mashed potatoes with a white gravy that tastes pretty spectacular. Really good food and fantastic service all the way around. I also love that they give back - right after you order at the counter, they give you a little token for you to drop into a jar for one of three rotating local charities. Last weekend we ordered takeout from Chook Chicken (Pearl St. location). Think: environmentally-conscience bourgeois 'Boston Market' roasted chicken. Technically it is charcoal-cooked chook (Australian for chicken). There is another location at 8th/Birch near Rose Medical Center and soon to be one at the Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. The developers founded big names in Denver such as Snooze Eatery, Fruition and Mercantile. We ordered the whole-chicken meal "Chook for Four" for $50. It came with three sides, one large salad and two dipping sauces. Yes, it would have fed four people, but we had nice leftovers. For sides, we chose the smashed cucumbers (light cucumber and red onion salad), Chook wedges (great fried potato fingers), and the mac & cheese (honestly pretty bland shells and cheese). The large cobb salad had boiled eggs and blue cheese and came with two dressings on the side (raspberry vinaigrette and a garlic cream.) The dipping sauces we chose were the Big A's BBQ (excellent home-made tangy flavor) and mum's gravy (which was unfortunately disappointingly tasteless). The chicken was exceptionally moist, and the flavor had a little heat that went all the way through the meat. We suspect that they brined the chicken. The company cares a great deal about sustainability. You can tell this from the freshness of their ingredients and every single item of the packaging was compostable! I find myself eating there at least once a week love the concept and the food although chicken portions are a little small and my last few times in to the Greenwood Village location. The employees are friendly, but a little off... the bathroom The last couple times was in disarray and on my visit today there were two other people in the restaurant employees up at the counter, three dirty tables. There was a manager type doing some bookwork, hat on backwards, didn't seem to care about the disarray in the dining room.
