First, wife is a vegetarian and they had no mains other than Mac and cheese for her. She ordered the salad without chicken which was $25. They knocked it down to $22 after I asked why it was the same price without meat, which still seemed like a lot for a salad with no protein. Kids' Mac and cheese was not the same receipe as last time; it was a different noodle and seemed to be needing some salt as it was pretty bland. Unlike our last visit they did not include an ice cream for dessert. My fried chicken and waffles was ok--the breading was a bit soggy though and I much preferred the Nashville hot chicken from my last visit. If I'm being honest this was closer to a 2 star experience, but with how good the last visit was, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt they maybe tonight they were just off. I came to Yardbird for a friend's birthday. Every year, my best friend does a themed party, and this year we went to Yardbird to celebrate the death of her twenties. Her mother and she are always looking for some gluten-free options (we attended POST last year), and Yardbird had just that available. For such a large party (16 or 18 of us, I cannot quite recall), our server was flawless. She was attentive, made sure each of us had what we needed, and was very knowledgeable about the menu. The overall ambiance presented a warm almost modern southern style structure with exposed brick that created a very intimate, yet community vibe. I ordered the Classic Buttermilk Biscuits and Lewellyn's Fine Fried Chicken. Buttermilk Biscuits (10/10)- I think what will let you know just how truly delicious these biscuits were is that I ordered more to take home with me so that my wife and daughter could have them for breakfast with me the next day. They were fluffy, delicious, and buttery, They came served very warm, which created the perfect balance for the house made jam, and I honestly could have eaten 6 right there at the table. It's also worth mentioning that they do reheat well the next day - do with that what you will!   Lewellyn's Fine Fried Chicken - (6/10) - I wanted a lot more from this chicken. While it was juicy and overall beautiful in presentation, it lacked the flavor I was looking for when I think of Fried Chicken, even in the skin. I think in comparison to places like Post, where you do get a flavorful bite in their chicken, I expected more from one of the things that they were known for. I did try to pair it with a hot honey sauce, but it then leaned more sweet, which I do not enjoy when I want things to be savory. He went above and beyond to make this brunch Super, Duper amazing! There is a Bottom less Mimosa menu available and we picked the pineapple juice Mimosas for $25 each person. Come to say they were marvelous and so refreshing. He picked the Elvis Special which was the pancakes with bananas, peanuts, peanut butter drizzle. I picked Shrimp with grits. Yardbird offers a great happy hour menu! I was a bit skeptical knowing their regular menu is a bit pricey but loved my experience and found it to be of generally fair value! Overall, fine service- generally friendly, attentive, and timely. For happy hour cocktails, I recommend the Southern Peach ($9 during HH)- delicious, semi sweet, and refreshing! For happy hour food, the wings are a can't miss- so meaty, perfectly crispy exterior, and great flavor hot sauce! HH order ($12) is 6 large pieces. Definitely worth it; sauce isn't spicy but so good; comes with homemade ranch. I also tried the Texas Twinkies, chicken biscuit sliders, and oak fried meat skewers on the happy hour menu. Texas Twinkies ($7 during HH) was good and true to its name in size- pepper was spicy, but great flavor combination and perfectly cooked! Recommend changing the name to singular one the menu as it is only one "twinkie." Similarly the chicken biscuit sliders ($10 on HH) say two are served on the menu- but it is only one. Of the HH food items, the chicken biscuit slider was most disappointing- tiny biscuit that didn't cover meat and fell apart; no complaints on chicken except small portion size/not two of them. The skewers trio- beef, chicken, and shrimp- ($11 during HH) were delivered to the table over hot smoking wood coals. Pretty cool! The meat was good but largely unremarkable for flavor. Tender steak, but pretty small portions. Best tasting was the chicken. Full disclosure, I experienced the full YB dining experience during restaurant week a few months ago. Tried a variety of their culinary offerings including the fried chicken! If you ever wondered what restaurants may have perfected fried chicken, Yardbird is likely on that list! (4) Chicken and waffles: My partner got this dish and said it was phenomenal. I believe they are known for this dish. They give you SO MUCH CHICKEN. One breast, one drumstick, one wing, AND one thigh - all bone in. Which does take some work, but he said it was soo juicy. Not overly breaded. Great seasoning. This dish is $40 but you truly get your moneys worth. The waffles had chives and cheddar in them too. Delicious! (5) Great American Burger: Friends got this and he probably said "omg" every 2 minutes about how good it was. It was insanely stacked with pieces of pork belly. The fries looked ordinary but they were beautifully seasoned as well and they make their ranch dressing in house. (6) Classic Yard Benedict: Friends got this and she said it was super delicious. The hash browns were beautiful too. They were these perfect little rectangles of fried hash brown love. Seasoned to perfection. She loved every bite. Their menu is insane, we will be back to try everything!! We got a ton of drinks between the 4 of us and we all felt they were a bit overpriced with lower alcohol content. Some better than others. I liked the desert rose the best but it was barely 1.5oz of "drink" once you took the ice cube out and I presume that wasn't all alcohol since it had other things mixed in it. Service: Overall we had great service. It was probably a good thing to not have entrees immediately after appetizers, but they tried to "course everything out" and we ended up being there for 2.5 hours. I thought they took way too long to put our entrees in. We weren't in a rush so it was fine but, we easily could have been done in 1.5 hours. It's very possibly they thought we were going to finish the appetizers and were waiting for us to -- but we had a different plan in mind (save room for entrees). Ambience: Freaking adorable. I ended up getting the fried chicken and waffles. Being from the southeast and growing up on fried chicken I can admit I am more picky about them. I had the St. Louis ribs which are presented by a server smoking under a glass and the pig and pineapple which is pork belly with bacon jam and pineapple. Both were pretty good. The drinks weren't very good to me, I had a southern peach, desert rose, and house crafted apple cider. The fried Oreo dessert was tasty. I wouldn't say you just HAVE to visit this place. What i would recommend it for is meeting up with some friends in the lounge (beautiful lounge) ordering a few items and spitting them tapas style. The table was a normal height so eating was slightly awkward. And I was served fried chicken in a bowl/plate which really put my fork and knife skills to the test at that awkward angle. I ordered the Llewelyn fried chicken after hearing that the chicken and waffles was popular. My thought was for dinner, let's ditch the breakfast aspect but keep the chicken aspect. They have a variety on their menu but for a place called "Yardbird" I was expecting amazing chicken. I asked to swap mashed potatoes for Mac and cheese. Thank God I did because the Mac and cheese was actually really good. I was told there was an up charge to do this but was never informed of how much. I was surprised to pay $8 additional for what was a small portion of Mac and cheese. And this was just a swap to sides not an addition mind you. I'll cut to the chase. The chicken was dry and flavorless. They offered to remake it but remaking it was not going to change the flavor. I ate a few bites but couldn't really eat much else of the chicken. It was that disappointing. I was hoping they'd offer something else to swap but after I gave my feedback the waiter did nothing. What really made this more disappointing is that over the course of the night three more of their staff stopped by our table, heard feedback about the food, and did absolutely nothing. One even made jokes that supported that what I ordered was not that great. At some point we asked for some paprika to make the chicken do-able. I ended up pawning most of the chicken to my friends because I couldn't bear the taste and it was obviously the kitchen was not going to take the plate back. I paid 50+$ for a small Mac and cheese, a small side salad and what ended up being a little bit of chicken. At those prices, it doesn't make sense for me to try to give this place another try when they don't have great customer service. Also if the chicken is bad, I'm not really motivated to try much else. My friends had other dishes which they enjoyed but felt like the portions were small (salmon and short rib dishes). My friend that tried the branzino was was really impressed by it too. Please start with those if you do go here. One friend also ordered the cobbler (which you crack with a mallet). It was very sweet and ultimately too sweet for my liking. WOW! What an amazing spot! Came here for the first time and wanted to try a bit of everything and I was so impressed. Will definitely be back to try more' Started with a drink - Passionate about Tequila - it was amazing. We then ordered the Heirloom Tomato Salad, Pork Belly, Street Corn, and the oysters. I was beyond impressed with everything. The oysters were great so I'm so happy I found another spot in denver with oysters. The burrata in their tomato salad was delicious and the pork belly melted in your mouth. The street corn side was amazing. The service was phenomenal and the vibe insides is perfect. The inside is so cool, I love how they have a lounge as well as a Restaurant. Awesome spot, can't wait to go back! read more
