Very disappointed. Hadn't been here in about 3 years. Service was atrocious. Food was OK, but my mood colored my lack of enjoyment. They got our appetizer order wrong; OK, things happen. But the egg rolls we ordered were cold, and the spring rolls didn't come out until 15 minutes later. We were 5 people, and two entrees were served about 10 minutes before the other three orders, which arrived cold! Probably had been sitting there waiting for someone to bring them out. When our first set of appetizers were brought, no small plates were delivered and those took another 5 minutes to arrive. One of us started using a napkin for a plate because we were hungry! All in all, I'm not sure I'll go back. Too many other choices in Gainesville. FYI: when I complained to the two people at the front desk on our way out, all I heard was "we're very sorry." No one asked for details; no one said "come back next week and we'll make it right." I should've ordered take-out instead! read more

Great experience. everything was very fresh and the staff was all very friendly. we got the miami roll & the sunshine roll both were delicious. we also got a bento box and it was all great. we sat outside and it was a beautiful view. service was also extremely fast. they told us they've been open for 20+ years, and it's all a big family. it was nice to see read more

I try to give this place chances but they stink! I called at 3:05 and ordered a bento box and they said I could not get the lunch price because it ended at 3:00. They said its the computers fault. I do not consider myself a cheap person but between their snail pace service and the cheapness of the establishment, I am done. Really 5 minutes? read more

Very excellent service. My friend and I ordered the wanton soup and chicken vegetable teriyaki. Both were terrific and the teriyaki was filling. We also ordered some tuna, salmon and yellowtail nigiri and it was a little loose but still great. read more

I had a pretty good experience at Chop Stix. The location is deceptively great. It is on a lake and looks cool on the sunset. You get a lot of food for a decent price. I got pad thai, which is my favorite dish. I had heard great things about it, but I guess it was hyped up a little too much. I enjoyed it but I have had better in Gainesville. The service was okay but it took us a while to get our checks. My friends enjoyed it so i guess overall I did too. read more

So this place had really great food but the atmosphere was blah. Our server was great, speedy and accommodating even though he was only one of two and a full house. The only real issue was the group of obnoxious people with about 5 obnoxious kids running in and out of the restaurant while none of the staff addressed the lack of control over the children. I am currently eating my leftovers from yesterday and it still gets 5 stars. A friend and I walked in and ordered off of the specials yesterday and we were delightfully pleased! The bang bang shrimp was amazing. The lobster and shrimp fried Rice's was delicious with a nice kick. We finished our meal with fried apples and ice cream which was the icing on the cake. The best part is that we shared an order of each item and were able to take some home.......The portions are HUGE! read more

The food was okay but the service was horrible. I'm from Orlando so I know good sushi and Asian cuisine when I see it. I had the Curry Crab Rangoon which was okay but seemed not as fresh. It took more than an hour for my table's food to come out and when it did, some people got there's 30 minutes before others. So we ended up having to get a to go box for one of the girls because everyone was completely finished when her food arrived last. Then at the end, our receipts were all rearranged and the cashier was more than upset when handling us. She grabbed my debit card out of my hand and swiped it extremely hard and did the same for each of my friends. Sorry that 12 of my friends came to your business and gave you money but that was really rude! Probably never going back. My fiancée and I go here all the time. The food is great and the prices are reasonable. The Pad Thai is really the best in town. We once went with a friend that couldn't choose if she wanted her dish with tofu or chicken, so she left it up the waiter. When the food came she had both, which was really nice of the waiter to do. Also, they tend to accommodate to your taste. I like that it has a nice family type of atmosphere, and how the staff knows exactly what we are going to order for drinks, and give great suggestions. My only complaint is that they need to organize and simplify their menu, or perhaps make new ones since they are pretty beaten up. Other than that the food has always been great, the atmosphere is nice, and the service is excellent. I recommend going in the afternoon since it's more peaceful and you get a good view of the lake behind the restaurant. On football nights the place gets packed! Also, recently we discovered that they are remodeling the place, which is great! I am glad they are sprucing up the place! read more

Ordered dumplings and thai curry. Dumplings were good, even above average. Thai curry was the most pitiful flavourless attempt at thai food I've ever eaten. Since, I cook these at home often enough I don't understand how you could make something so bad. read more

After a long hiatus from Gainesville and Chopstix, I finally got back over to the 13th St location. I grabbed the Vegetable Gyoza Noodle Soup to go for lunch one day. I did have to wait a good 20 or more minutes to get my order to go, but the food was worth the wait. The staff placed the vegetable broth soup in one container, and the noodles and dumplings in a separate container so it wouldn't get soggy on my way back to work. I liked that I was able to mix it together to my taste. The vegetable broth was perfectly seasoned for me and had fresh, crisp broccoli in the broth. The noodles and dumplings were tasty although the dumplings do get soggy in the broth very quickly. Best Dumpling Noodle Soup I've had in a long time! The soup ran about $10 with tax. I went back with my husband that weekend and tried more dishes. We ordered the Summer Rolls to start, and were surprised at the size of the rolls. It took me at least 5 bites to finish one roll. The peanut sauce was the perfect compliment to the summer rolls. I ordered miso soup which was fine, nothing special. My husband ordered the Classic Thai Curry (Kang Pa) and ended up eating every last drop with his spoon. I tried it and liked the spicy flavor. I ordered the Sauteed Fried Tofu Rice Vermicelli, and loved everything but the sauce. I like sesame-soy based sauces, and this was a goopy, sweet red chili sauce. We tacked on a Boba Tea for the road, and our bill was just under $30. Not too bad for all that we ordered. Service seems to be a big complaint in a lot of these reviews, which I can somewhat understand. Our weekend server was attentive and reasonably quick with our orders. A big party came in after us, and it took awhile to get our bill. We saw several staff eating lunch in the same eating area as customers...I guess that was their break? No major complaints: Service was a bit slow but not horrible by any means. I will be going back! The food is tasty and fresh! read more

Went here for my friends birthday dinner. The atmosphere was great. I loved the lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The noise level was moderate, though we went at 8 on a Friday night. One thing I though was strange was that they didn't list the prices for the sushi. I was surprised at my total. I got the volcano roll, which was great, but slightly overpriced( $14). Ask how much the roll is before you order, just so you don't get sticker shock. The service was great too. Since it was my friends birthday, they brought her some ice cream w/ sauce and a candle. I was worried after reading other reviews, but I had a great experience here! I had no problem with slack service, I had a new server and other servers checked up on my table constantly. Got to see tons of birds and a gator on the lake as the sun started to set. Big flocks of egrets kept flying by. The gator swam right up close to teh restaurant. Maybe he's been fed before? Chopstix has been renovated since I was last here two years ago, and it is really bright and nice -- sat by the glass wall overlooking the lake. I had the veggie delite crispy sushi, which was a GIANT plate of huge rolls with cream cheese, cucumber, japanese pickle, asparagus, and avocado. The roll was covered in tempura and fried -- very decadent and filling.I had actually ordered a Vietnamese noodle bowl before I saw the size of that sushi,and once I saw the sushi, I was able to cancel the noodle bowl and they were very nice about it. There is a frozen yogurt parlor attached to the restaurant now. You can order frozen yogurt from your table in the restaurant, with toppings. I had Taro flavor. The restaurant was clean, the menu was incredibly extensive, and that was one of the most unusual and tasty sushi rolls I have ever tasted! read more

Attention everybody: Chop stix cafe on sw 13 st SUCKS!!! They overcharged me by $10 and don't admite that, saying it's the trick from the bank. The status of this charge is no longer "Pending" now and I don't see any extra subscription of this consumption record from the credit card company, so it must be the restaurant's fault Besides, I couldn't believe the waitress there doesn't know Engilish!! I told her not peanuts but the garlic sauce instead, and she mixed them! and I asked her if she knows what i'm saying, she said NO! Why do I keep coming to this place? do I want punishment? am I subjected to bouts of lunacy? or is my desire for adequate parking clouding my judgement. Yesterday was my 6th time at Chop Stix Cafe in the past four years. Granted they have a fantastic parking lot, nice view of a small lake, and attractive ambience inside. But hands down, is avoiding the total lunacy of Archer or the UF area for a meal, especially after a long drive to Gainesville, worth it at CSC? Chop Stix Cafe manages to insult the cuisine of Japan, China, Thailand and Vietnam. Please note, unable to judge Korea, so perhaps that attracts everyone? I have never had a good meal here, passable and unreasonably high food prices should be the company mission, and the mantra should be wait till we get our drive -in in order. Seriously, if you are in the neighborhood, it is a toss up between this place and I-Hop. This last meal, Bento box, was passable tofu (3 very small pieces ) on rice, vegetables warmed but mainly raw) with minimal taste , a good egg roll /fried wonton, salad with diluted ginger, and miso soso soup, and for only $10 + drink + tip . Did I mention the egg roll was very good? and the parking lot access was excellent. read more

I literally made a Yelp acct just so I could write this. If you're looking for extremely rude service and no-effort bland asian food, this is definitely the place to go. There was hair in my food and all of the dishware given to us was dirty. The "patio" area overlooks the gainesville swamp and isn't covered with mesh or anything and has wobbly cobblestones -- so if you're looking for a reason to sue someone, this is also the place! The venue is trash and so is the food and service. Never have I ever been so disappointed in a restaurant as I am with this one. I would strongly defer you from eating here unless you want to get sick. I ordered the pad se ew and when it came out, it literally looked like a sopping bowl of not even the right kind of noodles. It looked absolutely nothing like pad se ew -- it's a pretty easy dish and I would know because I'm Asian. It looked like spaghetti in sewer water with a few vegetables and pieces of chicken thrown in. When my bf and I politely told our waiter that we didn't like it and it wasn't good at all, he curtly told us he'd see what he could do. He came back and handed us menus and rudely and sarcastically said, "well, we don't want you to be hungry so pick something you like." Never have I ever been so appalled while dining out. Needless to say, this place is absolute garbage and the people there are just as bad as the food. read more

I live right next to Chopsticks on 13th Street. I used to come here a lot. They have good food but the host here is the worst. I mean the worst. He talks to you like you owe him money or something. Chopsticks always hits the spot. You can come here everyday for an entire month and not have the same thing twice. The Pad Thai here is excellent and so is the tempura, ALL kinds of tempura. The summer rolls are huge. Lunch specials are served in a Bento box and include soup, salad, rice, dumplings and vegetables for only $7. The restaurant is located next to a lake, (and a porn shop, shh...) but the lake is lovely and if you are lucky an alligator may come ashore. It can get very crowded at dinner, so come early. read more

I've been to this place a handful of times, and each time I leave with the same exact experience. The view is amazing, the food is super tasty (especially the vegetarian/vegan options) but the service is absolutely HORRENDOUS. A server won't be by your table for 20/30 minutes to take your drink orders, or sometimes three different people will come take drink orders. It's very out of sync. We wait 30 minutes for our check to come out every time and we asked for plates and napkins from our server 3 times with no result (just a few examples of the many). I talked to the manager about it, and all he could say was "That's how we work...its teamwork here. Hope you try us again." It's disappointing that you have to deal with such terrible service to get great food. read more

II recently went to Chopstix with my boyfriend for a date night. We were so excited to sit outside and enjoy the view. First off the host did not greet us simply walked ahead and grabbed some menus. He didn't even say "right this way." So we assumed we were to follow him. He sat us outside which was absolutely lovely, that was the the only lovely thing about our experience. The patio was busy and everyone else was being attended to...except for us. No one greeted us or asked for our drinks for 10 MINUTES! Then a small asian girl came up and said "what would you like to order for dinner." I told her we have not had anything to drink yet. She walked away and took care of another table. I flagged down someone who looked like another server and asked for a drink of water. He said he would get it right away... another 10 minutes later, no one came back but I saw the asian girl taking care of another table and totally ignoring us. We walked up to the the host stand and informed a server/ host ( I can never tell who is who in this restaurant) about the situation and all she said is "we do things differently here." Sorry, didn't know it was common restaurant style to ignore paying patrons. Will never go back. read more

This place used to be great. But something is lacking in recent years. My food would never come out in a timely manner. One time I ordered a tuna salad and it took FOREVER and a year to get it. By the time I received my meal, my date had already finished his. A salad for Christ's sake. This restaurant is on a lake, so the view is really pretty. And yeah, JD never leaves. read more

OMG! My partner and I were so happy to find this restaurant. We were seated at a table over looking the lake. We went outside for a break b/t courses and were astonished by the view. The water comes right up to their deck and the area surrounding was gorgeous! Service was great. Food was awesome! We tried the seaweed salad, 2 sushi rolls, 2 soups and 2 entrees. The coconut soup and curried entree I tried were divine!!! The sushi was SO FRESH. The bill was inexpensive. I've dined out extensively in 8 states around the country. I was for the most part very impressed with Chop Stix, the only detractor being that the service is not stellar. If you go, you must be in a good mood and willing to talk the night away with your dinner companion(s). We were seated promptly in the nice dining area and didn't have to wait incredibly long for drink orders or menus, but I think it was about ten minutes before we ordered. It's confusing because there are plenty of waiters hanging out, but there is not tons of action on the floor, so to speak. The place was semi-crowded but it seemed like the more people that showed up, the slowed everything got. In all honesty, it was about 45 minutes from when we ordered to when we got our food. However, the food was exceptional. I had the Panang curry and, although it reminded me much more of green curry, it was very tasty. My dining companion had Kung Pow chicken and from a few bites, I could tell it was exceptional - sweet and hot. If I go back I would order that for sure. If you are willing to wait, the food is well worth it. read more

First time here on the positive side, the lake view is beautiful and the service was very good. It was our first time here and we are not very familiar with this style food. We were a party of four. My husband and daughter enjoyed their dinner, my son in law didn't like it. It was too sweet for him but he ate it anyway. Unfortunately I did not like mine and asked if I could send it back and order something else. At that point was when it appeared to me they were very reluctant to do that. I could not understand why they were trying to make me eat something I clearly did not enjoy. They finally took it back and I ordered two appetizers. The spring rolls and shrimp and veggies tempura both were good but very very greasy. When we got out bill we saw they charged us for the returned meal when we asked about it the waiter explained the policy is No Returns and he brought us out the meal in a to go bag. My only reason for telling you this is to make the customers aware of this policy. I had to pay for something I didn't like. Needless to say, our last time coming here. read more
