Last night, my fiance and I celebrated our 10 years together at Chophouse Thirteen. Our first time there and, boy, it did not disappoint!! Food, service, and the staff were fantastic! I had filet mignon for the very first time (I'm a ribeye person), and HOLY MOLY have I been missing out -- deeeeeeelicious, flavorful, and soooo tender. Thanks to Chophouse, filet mignon is my go-to steak from now on for fine dining! These are going to be some big shoes to fill! Oh ohh OOOHHH -- their deviled eggs - 3 flavors - PHENOMENAL!!! The front hostess as well as the other members of service were truly wonderful and attentive to our needs. We had my three year old grand-daughter who can be a handful. The restaurant ambiance and acoustics were wonderful. The attendant suggested the Chilean seabass which was season to perfection and the wild rice seasoning complemented the meal. As a lover of escargot and roasted brussel sprouts, the side dishes were truly wonderful. Usually this place is fantastic. From food to atmosphere, to service. I am not sure what happened tonight, but it went entirely off the rails! Booked reservation for my wife's birthday. Party of 8 of family and friends to celebrate. Easy $1000 bill. Tonight was a complete disaster. Horrible service, no drink refills, no wine glasses, no salads ever delivered. When food did arrive 1 hour and 31 minutes after we sat down, it was completely cold and sides were missing . I am not exaggerating. No apology from waiter. He had what appeared to be an attitude. Perhaps her was just embarrassed. His server assistant was named JJ.. was very sweet and very apologetic. She was awesome. We left without a meal. To the manager's credit he did not charge for the beverages. But , at 8:35 not many choices for us to find a meal elsewhere. We made best of it and ate at Taco Bell to celebrate the birthday. I suppose I should be grateful I saved some big money. But my wife was disappointed. Not exactly what she had in mind for her birthday meal. Look, we have had many good meals here. We come regular. Waste of a lot of money! Service was good but the food was trash, especially for the price they charge. The lobster mac cheese was so bland and only had two small pieces of lobster in the entire dish. The worst mac I've ever had in my life! The brussel sprouts were fried to a crisp and so dry, no flavor at all. The steak was bland,nothing special, I've definitely tasted better. The lamb chops were flavorful but very small. I went here for the first time last night for my birthday dinner and after deciding Cowford was too far. I am so glad I decided to! By far my new favorite restaurant. This is a great place in this part of town. The steaks are flavored well. I got the ribeye medium rare. The side dishes are served ala carte and also flavored very well. One simple something that I measure a restaurants is how attentive thei wait staff is...I never had to ask for refills...but beware on drinking too much because bread and water expand in your stomach and you won't have room for the sumptuous meal. I've lived in Mandarin for 30 years and really like to support our community restaurants. Chophouse has been hit or miss...but tonight was the last attempt. I have had to send my steaks back the last 3 times I've been... and tonight I cannot believe they even put the 10 ounce filet on the plate and served it. It was literally BLACK and looked liked a charred liver! It was burnt and medium well at best, when I ordered, medium rare. The steak knife would not even cut through the top, it was like plastic! The manager came out and apologized, and 20 mins later after my friend was nearly finished with her lamb chops (which were very good), he brought me a beautiful filet that was cooked perfectly and he was very apologetic. I did not complain, but the new filet was literally so salty I had to scrape the top and the bottom seasoning off before I could eat it and I am NOT salt sensitive at all! I love heavy seasoning. The mushrooms that I think we paid $13 for were so salty I could not eat them. My friend mixed them in with her baked potato and was able to eat them that way. I spent around $200 tonight and it was SO disappointing. The wine, salad and shrimp appetizer were great...but meal was absolutely terrible. I am not sure what's going on with the chef there but for the prices they need to make some change for consistency. I likely will not be going back for another try... and that is a shame because the location is convenient, the service is always great and the bar is awesome. First time here, formerly the Tree Steakhouse. The restaurant is located on San Jose Blvd and Mandarin Rd. We went into the Oak Bar which is to the right of the main dining room. Drinks - Old fashioned, Blood Orange Margarita and BlackBerry Limoncello Prosecco. Not overly impressed, too much alcohol and not enough flavor. If I wanted straight up liquor, I would order it. However, the appetizers were amazing! BLUE CHEESE CHIPS bleu cheese, balsamic reduction, smoked pork belly 12 Then.....they accidentally gave us someone else's appetizers, so it was on the house! I can now recommend the following; BEER GLAZED THICK CUT BACON grilled crispy, whole grain mustard, onion jam Now, why this was absolutely delicious, the $14 price tag for four pieces of bacon is a little much. It also, wasn't that thick. WILD MUSHROOM AND LAVASH CRACKERS brandy cream sauce, bleu cheese, fresh herbs This was off the chart delicious! I wanted to lick the bowel but ya know, not very ladylike. ;) Well, after the two additional, unexpected appetizers, we were too full to actually try the main entrees. This was our second attempt at trying this restaurant. The first attempt, service was 10 stars, but the food prep was not. This go around service was still 10 stars and food prep improved. We started with the meat and cheese board and it was delicious. The Ch13 salad was pretty standard with a house vinaigrette. The tomato bisque was made from scratch and delicious. My husband and I opted to share a ribeye medium well. It was seasoned well, but it was cooked to medium. Despite the temperature, it was very good. Our friends had the chicken and surf and turf, and both meals were great. We also indulged in dessert and this was also delicious. The escargot paired well with the filet mignon. Superb service kept the night smooth and enjoyable. The filet was cooked perfect along with the loaded mashed potatoes and lobster mac n cheese. The hostesses were polite, professional, and courteous. Robbie was our waiter and he made every request into reality from the wine recommendations to the loaded potatoes and a glass of Appleton estate 12 yr rum. I would like to return as often as possible to have a phenomenal dinner with excellent service. Cool things about this place: Same staff from Treehouse Not the same restaurant Fully remodeled Barrel aged Old Fashions And average cocktail $14 plus Stiff drinks The bar area is gorgeous with deep wood trim and furniture. Wall of aged vintage mirrors and romantic lighting. The bartender that served us was the one Who aged the old fashions. It was so delicious. He definitely knows how to mix a cocktail. We went to Chophouse 13 for the first time last night, since they've re-imaged. I grew up going to the Tree Steakhouse as a young man, and have some profound memories of its glory days. After moving back to mandarin 2 years ago (being gone since about '93), we tried The Tree with some friends, and were significantly underwhelmed. So much so, that we didn't return until last night, and honestly didn't expect much. Yea, we were wrong about that... Wow! We sat at the bar about an hour and a half before a big kickoff, with the expectation that we'd be home long before the 8 pm game start. Well, we ended up staying until half-time.... not because the service was slow (quite the opposite), but because we really didn't want to leave. We started with the blue cheese chips as an appetizer, because the picture looked fantastic, and because I'm a balsamic junkie. They were TOP NOTCH! I've eaten a metric ton of blue cheese chips, but nothing like these. I'm afraid I'll likely order them every time I go. After we found the bottom of the stack, and were nearly licking the plate, it was time to move on... We were admiring the size of the fried shrimp at the spot next to ours, but wanted to step into this pool one foot at a time. We opted for the shrimp cocktail instead... 6 LARGE mayport shrimp, and a little presentation of cocktail. (We stepped up the heat of the cocktail with a side of fresh prepared horseradish, until we were marching the heat of the famous SC at St. Elmo in Indianapolis... yea these were better. The shrimp were so big, and so sweet. You just can't beat fresh mayport shrimp. I don't care where you go! Well done! Now onto something a little more personal... the Filet tip skewers... I'm a steak snob. There, I said it... This was the very horse devours that steered us away from The Tree, because they were pretty awful... not last night... nope. Perfect. Ordered them medium, and they were medium... they come with a delicious tatziki sauce for dipping (which I again spiced up with some left over horseradish from the cocktail shrimp). Man these were good! So good I'd be there eating them again if they weren't closed today... Lastly, we opted for the Margarita Flatbread... I gotta be honest here, I was about 6 old fashioned deep at this point, and they could have put a dead cat in front of me, and I'd have not complained... However, it was VERY good. Flavorful crust, soft mozzarella, cherry red tomatoes, and more of that damned balsamic! It was really solid! Most people aren't here for the cocktail reviews, but you're gonna get it anyways... the old fashioned here is spectacular. The whistle pig "piggy back" 6 yr. rye is the PERFECT whiskey for an old fashioned, and they nailed it. Regarding the service, it was a 6 on a scale of 1-5. The bartender duo was on the ball. They even came with their own fan club of patrons that followed them from previous endeavors... First time trying this upscale steakhouse. I felt the ambiance was very inviting and cozy for starters. There is a seating area that is very welcoming upon entering this establishment. There's a bar area separate from the main dining rooms for you to have a drink or simply unwind. There's a big screen in there with a selection of what's hot for the time being on tap. They have a viewing window into the kitchen where the action happens so you can see your steak prepared. They do have a wine room however, I think it could stand to be a bit more expansive on their selections. (Still pretty good tho for sure!) Onto the dinner. I had a 6oz fillet mignon medium rare with a warm pink center, mashed potatoes, broccoli, house salad finished off with a New York styled cheesecake for dessert. The steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Looking forward to trying more selections on my next visit. The broccoli & mashed potatoes didn't disappoint (even though they take a back seat to the steak most of the time) finally my cheesecake was good (even though juniors cheesecake in NYC is still my gold standard) all in all I enjoyed having dinner at this restaurant and it is a very nice experience to partake in if you're into upscale steakhouse venues. read more

My wife and I have been coming here for over three years. I usually order the Mac and lobster cheese appetizer. There has always been small chunks of lobster in the dish. We ordered two orders and this time there were no lobster chunks on either dish. I brought this issue to Jennifer the bartender that served us (very nice lady). She spoke to the chef and was told that there are 2 oz of lobster in the dish and that if we wanted he could add 2 oz for an additional $5.00. I returned my dish and then the chef offered to add the lobster at no cost. I was not looking for free lobster , I wanted an acknowledgement that there was no lobster on either one of our dishes. So I did not want to pay $ 20.00 for a mac and lobsterless cheese dish. I think that if your menu states lobster mack and cheese, a two oz of lobster should be visible. This was the best experience that i have had at a steakhouse, the staff was super friendly from the girl at the front desk to all the servers. we came for my birthday and almost every server said happy birthday to me, we were checked in on multiple times and our water was never past half way empty. The food was absolutely amazing the ribeye was delicious, smoky and juicy; and the grilled Atlantic salmon was the best salmon i have ever had. The service was a 10/10 kevin, our server and his assistant were very friendly and made sure we were taken care of.
