Ever get very excited when you finally get back to a place you haven't been in a while? That's how we were when we finally went back to Picasso's last night. They're located at 10503 San Jose Blvd over in Mandarin. It was a night of firsts! We had an appetizer we've never had before, then we both ordered things we've never had before. We started with the St. Louis Ravioli, which was great. Don't be intimidated by the size on the photo, they just puff up a LOT. Many people have raved about the steak at Picasso's so I finally ordered it last night. Their special was Prime New York Strip and holy cow, it was a big steak! I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Every single one of you who were raving about the steak were not lying. It was seasoned well, juicy & tender...just excellent. My wife tried their Meatball Madness pizza, which she ordered St. Louis Style. She'd never tried that style of pizza before and she really liked it. It's a very thin crust pizza, cut into squares. She REALLY liked the meatballs to the point where she kept saying that the next time we come back, she wants to try their spaghetti & meatballs. We got there right at 4:30 when they open for dinner and they were packed almost instantly. It's worth noting that our server Kelsie was fantastic through the whole meal. One nice touch was that she took our leftovers, boxed them up and brought them back to us. That may not seem like a huge thing but it's a little touch we always like. I love this little spot. It's close to my house, the staff are super friendly, the food is always good. The pizzas are excellent and we love having them leftover! I've tried multiple pastas and they never disappoint. The space is a decent size, but they're usually so busy you may have to wait a little while. It's worth it for a solid experience! I have been hearing about Picasso's for years now but somehow we never found our way there. But we recently decided to lock in and we were going to make it. I knew they were in the Mandarin area but wasn't exactly sure where but once we looked it up we realized how often we were in the area. We did come in on a Saturday Night so there was a wait to get in which was about 45 minutes for 2 but lucky Monkey's Uncle is right next-door so we grabbed some drinks there. We got our text that our table was ready and we walked over. Once seated our waitress went over the specials and I checked out the menu. They really have something for everyone and even some New Orleans classics. We of course had to get the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp since it's favorites plus it's one of their most popular dishes so it has to be good and you already know it was. The spicy butter sauce had so much flavor and the shrimp were cooked perfectly and the bread was great for sopping up every last drop of sauce. Being at Picasso's we also had to try a pizza and they have St Louis style which is have never had but I do love a thin crust so we tried the 12" The Gourmet Pizza which comes with Pancetta Bacon, Caramelized Onions, Brie, and Truffle Oil. This pizza was amazing and unlike any I have had. I will say the Brie will catch you off guard at first but this pizza is for sure worth a try. For my entree I went with the Fettuccine Alfredo and I added a Chicken Cutlet for $10. Let me tell you.... This might have been the best Fettuccine Alfredo I have ever hit it's that good. The Fettuccine Alfredo is made in house from scratch which is how it always should be done and the Alfredo is so flavorful. The Chicken Cutlet is also crispy, tender and flavorful as well. You really cannot go wrong with this combo. If you are a connoisseur of Fettuccine Alfredo Picasso's is a place you can not miss. We had an amazing dinner and the staff was so friendly and hopeful from entering to leaving. We for sure will be coming back in the near future to try some new dishes though I don't know how I'm going to be able to come back and not get that Fettuccine Alfredo. read more

This was my second time eating at Picasso's, and I enjoyed it as much as the first time--which was great! Because of my onion allergy, I am limited in choices but I found a Cuban Sandwich and some sautéed zucchini noodles for a side! Both were delicious. The servings were quite ample because I took half the sandwich and some noodles home. The staff was very friendly and most efficient--they had to be because there was a line of waiting patrons before the doors were opened! The main room filled quickly (there is a room to the front which is great for smaller groups). I have heard about Picasso's so many times and finally we stopped in... it did not disappoint! We came around 6:00 on a Saturday and the place was packed, the wait time was estimated to be an hour and a half but we were committed. We popped around the corner to a bar and grabbed a drink and before we knew it we were getting called. New for the food, let me preface this portion by saying our eyes were waayyy bigger than our stomachs so we ordered way too much. For starters we ordered BBQ shrimp and the Gormet pizza St Louis style. Both were delicious and perfect appetizers. For my main I got the gnocchi special, but I added sausage and mushrooms to it, which made the dish immaculate! The gnocchi on its own was good but with the extras was five stars. I also tried Mike's Alfredo and it was probably the best I've ever had. For dessert we ordered the gooey butter cake it was scrumptious! The service is also top tier! We recently visited for a birthday and the food was delicious. However I ordered the pan roasted chicken and was slightly disappointed. While it was tasty and flavorful the portion size for the money ($25 à la carte) was surprising. It was basically the breast meat with the drumette portion of the wing along with some gravy. I did order the sautéed broccolini as a side. I say this mostly as an fyi and not a complaint since the quality and flavor is not lacking. Some in our party had sandwiches, another had the pizza slice and a salad special, while myself and 2 others shared a large NY style Butcher's Special that we added mushrooms to. I can't speak to the sandwiches, but the party member that had the Ceasar salad said it was yummy. I can say that the pizza was really good. A good crispy crust with a great cheese and sauce / toppings ratio. Fairly easy parking as it's a strip mall type location. Bathrooms were clean. Always a pleasant time at Picasso. Melissa was our server. We did not give her a chance to tell us the specials of the day. I went witht he soup of the day which was Garlic. It was not too garlicy which was fine. I had a riesling and so did wifey. Melissa came back and we were ready to order. I wanted the ravioli bolagnese and wife haf the salmon croquettes. The bolanese did not come with grated cheese or crushed pepper. Frankly, I did not aks and was not offered. Desserts were Slimana picking for me. Wifey had yhe carrot cake not pictured. Tried out Picasso's Jacksonville and it did not disappoint. I started with the New Orleans BBQ shrimp, which came with bread. Both were on point. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the sauce was packed with flavor. Definitely a strong start. For the main, I had spaghetti and meatballs with buttered bread. The pasta was solid, but I've got to highlight the bread. I'm not usually big on bread, but this right here? Fresh, soft, buttery, and baked just right. Overall, a great experience. Disappointing Experience - Not Coming Back I went to Picasso Restaurant with a friend, and it was a big letdown. My friend had been there a few years ago, and I had been there about four years ago--we expected much better. Right away, the place felt unorganized. No reception, just a line and no clear menu--you have to search for it near the cashier. There's no real service either: you order, pay, and they bring your food to the table and just drop it off. After that, you're on your own--go find your utensils. Drinks come in styrofoam cups. The table we picked was wobbly and uncomfortable. The food didn't help either. My fettuccine was extremely salty. I asked for a remake, and it came out in about two minutes--which says a lot. The second one had no flavor, and the chicken was oily and poorly prepared. When I gave feedback, I was offered cake--which completely missed the point. Service felt rushed and careless the entire time. To make it worse, my friend left a generous tip expecting a good experience... which we definitely did not get. We won't be coming back, and we wouldn't recommend it. The inside is the usual CASUAL dining setting. You'll notice a mix of the restaurants inventory mixed into the dining experience (I'm not sure if it's on purpose); however, the causal atmosphere should not be confused with the menu price nor food quality. This place is PRICEY. The wine selection is plentiful. I go house everytime. The food menu is limited, but I feel like you can't go wrong. My go to menu options are Italian Stew pot (for the meatballs), Fried Mozz & Side Salad with Salmon. I have had their pastas and pizzas too. All items (I am impressed) are cooked finely to chef's Perfections. They do not miss on FRESH QUALITY INGREDIENTS. The service is hit/miss. I have gotten a hospitable waiter a time or two. But more times than not you will get a pretentious, pompous attitude from the staff (until you prove your worth). One time we were turned away due to us having a party of 10. The manager's comment was "we'd rather tend to our usuals then host a large party bc they couldn't make room" I think staff training on unconscious bias will go along way. Menu has a bit of everything so always weary about a menu with so many different kinds of food but the items we had were very good. I did the gumbo and the bbq shrimp and both tasted great. The shrimp were very NOLA authentic and the gumbo roux had the perfect dark chocolate color but was a little heavy on the flour but still very good. One of the best steakhouse in Jacksonville is not a steakhouse! The one place I consistently get a great steak at a great price in a relaxed atmosphere is Picasso's. Their daily butcher's special is always delicious and is usually a pound or more, making it perfect for splitting. My wife and I will split one of their Mayfair salads (it is not called a Caesar, but in reality it is one and one of the best around) and the butcher special and nobody goes home hungry. This is not some OK toss it on the grill and serve it, this is a perfectly cooked NY Strip or Rib Eye with all the trimmings. The steak we had (shown) came with asparagus, fried potato squares (the kind made up of many layers) and morel mushrooms stuffed with foie gras. The steak was served with a red wine gastrique that was superb. Because I am a wine geek I took my own bottle of a good Bordeaux, knowing that the VERY reasonable $10 corking made that a good choice. BUT had I not, they have an excellent selection and, something I know from having worked in a wine shop for a while, have some of the lowest mark-ups on wines around. You can often get bottles there for only slightly more than you would pay for them at a shop. Finally, the ambiance and service. The place is ALWAYS busy (no doubt because of all the things I have mentioned) but the wait staff is pleasant and orders arrive quickly. It is very family friendly and at times a little loud, but one can always hear their dinner partner, unlike some other places. I have eaten at almost all the "Steakhouses" in Jax and there is truly none I like as much as Picasso's. read more

Very confused about why this restaurant has such great reviews. We got pizza and it was soggy. We also got a salad which was supposed to include apples and strawberries. I swear there was a 1/4 of a strawberry on that whole salad. My boyfriend got pasta, and he said it was rather flavorless. I have to admit all of the food there was flavorless. You're greeted by STL staples like toasted ravioli, cracker-thin STL style pizza, and gooey butter cake to round things out --tempting for a fellow Saint Louis-an. But, my goodness, the pastas, freshly made in house with care. Premium, fresh ingredients, portions with flexibility to share, though you won't want to. Impressive wine selection to pair. If the quality of your food didn't convince you how much these small business owners care about your experience, maybe chat up the owners themselves who frequently make rounds throughout their establishment to ensure you leave with the most satisfyingly perfect meal in tow. One thing I wasn't expecting was that there is no table service during lunch. You order at a counter, get given a number, and then sit down at a table. You get your own silverware and drinks as well. This is definitely a casual spot, and not somewhere I'd go for an intimate dinner or romantic date. It tends to get a bit loud since the kitchen is open to the dining room. The service here was outstanding from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Every employee was very friendly and attentive. If I was just basing this review on food, it would be three stars, but the fantastic service bumps it to four stars. I ordered the lunch special which included a drink, slice of pizza, and a side salad for $8.50. The other lunch option was 2 slices and a drink for $8. We also ordered the fried mozzarella for the table. The fried mozzarella was easily the best thing we ordered. It was hot, flavorful, and the marinara dipping sauce was delicious. The side salad was middle of the road, nothing crazy. I got the Italian dressing which was more of an oil and vinegar. I'd prefer if the salad was served in a bowl rather than a plate, and some of the lettuce had obvious brown spots. The slice of pizza was good, but not outstanding. I got pineapple on mine. The pineapple was the canned kind, which was very disappointing since they put a huge emphasis on fresh ingredients (as stated in their Yelp bio. I don't think canned pineapple is the best pineapple in town). This pizza was 10% crust 20% sauce and 70% cheese. If that's your kind of thing, you'll love it. The cheese was a bit too much for me, very thick and chewy, and took away from the sauce and crust. I prefer more even proportions for my pizza, but if a cheese lover you'll be in heaven. Overall, it was good for a quick and casual lunch. I wouldn't return for the pizza since it's not my preferred style, but I'm still curious to come back for dinner and try their handmade pasta. read more

After being homebound for months, I finally convinced my son to go out for dinner. We went to Picasso's because I told him how good the food was. Big mistake! We were not seated in the main dining room but in a vacant side room - empty except for us. We uncomfortably dined alone in that room for the whole dinner thinking they had forgotten us because of such slow service. Then came the bill.
