I wanted to find a really nice restaurant to bring my wife, for her birthday. Choplin's came up on Yelp. The menu looked interesting and the woman, Char, that took my reservation was very courteous and assured me that it was a nice place. She was right. The ambiance is nice and relaxing. Our waiter Matt was top notch. Very friendly, attentive and helpful. The drinks are spectacular as was the crab fondue appetiser. The entrees, mahi mahi and salmon , were delicious. The desert menu is full of tempting delights, we chose the Pineapple upside-down cake and it was excellent. Overall the ambiance, the service, the portion size, the presentation and the taste all merit 5 stars. Thanks to Yelp I found this place for a very special occasion. This WAS absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in the area! They used to have promos and coupons which is what usually brought us in from a few exits North. Not that they started out unreasonably priced, we just tend to go places that are on Entertainment.com, Groupon or LS. Since we don't drive by here often, we are guilty of forgetting to visit as often as I'd like. They're off exit 28, in the area behind Starbucks where the old Bi-Lo used to be. It's a very unassuming location but the food's always fresh. My review originally was 5 stars, but now it's down to 3 for a few reasons. 1) their prices have gone up. 2) the male waiter we had was very odd, and made us all uncomfortable, and 3) they overcharge for add ons (for salads), and 4) my beloved onion soup has become far too salty (this has happened the last few times) This used to be my absolute favorite restaurant. However, after our last dinner there I may have changed my mind. My go-to here was the french onion soup. It was like drinking from a salt-lick runoff this last time. Painfully salty. Our waiter was frankly odd. At first he started out kind of funny/quirky, but then he just became weird. As our meal progressed, we found ourselves more and more uncomfortable with his quirkiness. The deal killer for me was when we got the bill. We were charged either $13 or $14 to add a tiny bit of grilled chicken to an already overpriced ($12) simple caeser salad. Their prices seem to have left the 'reasonable range' and I don't feel the food's flavors or presentation merit such a hike. Because of this, it's no longer at the top of my list. Which is a shame, because their food is GENERALLY fresh, flavorful and creative. And usually, the ladies we have wait on us are great. They were moderately busy on a Friday night (only 3-4 open tables), but service, pricing and quality went way down. So, if you've never been here, it's worth a try. This has been one of our favorite restaurants since it opened. I was thrilled when we was able to order takeout during the early months of the pandemic, as I'd been concerned about whether Choplin's would survive. We were regular customers, and went back in person one time after the mask limits were lifted - it was delicious and the service was great. When the mask mandate was reimposed on 8/18/21, we decided to order takeout, and had a very disappointing experience. First, when we arrived to pick up our order, it wasn't ready. Okay, we'll wait. Second, no masks anywhere - not the customers, not the staff. And I suppose it's theoretically possible that the customers were all "actively eating or drinking" (the exception to mask requirements), but this doesn't apply to staff. When I went back in for the third time to check on our order (still not ready), I asked and was told "we don't have to wear masks here until August 28." Third, when I was asked to pay (no order yet in sight) I gave her my phone with my Groupon on it. Groupons had been accepted, including for takeout, throughout the pandemic, and for the record, we always tip on the full amount of the bill as if we were eating in. She said they weren't taking them "now that the pandemic is over." I pointed out that we're still in a pandemic, and she explained, "oh, I meant when we were only allowed to have 50% capacity." Good to know, they weren't concerned about allowing customers to still order their food and eat at home, they just wanted to make more money. Lastly, the food finally arrived and we took it home. It had clearly been sitting for a while because it was almost cold, and the scallops were tough and there was almost no sauce on the Brussels sprouts - this never happened before. Disappointing, and if you sort reviews by newest first it appears Choplin's has lost their edge? The hostess was very pleasant! Decor meh. Our cocktails were good, though they overdid it packing the glass with ice - a silly old trick to make a cocktail look generous. Onion soup and lobster bisque were excellent. Bread plates but no bread service, not even a menu item? And no water until well into the meal. I ordered a 12 oz filet, they brought me an 8 oz filet, and charged me for an 8 oz - so the server missed my order. It was slightly over cooked, that should not happen at a restaurant featuring steaks. My wife had scallops, from the first bite she was unhappy. Tasteless, rubbery (undercooked), no sear at all on 4 of 5 scallops. It was if they'd been boiled or microwaved. She only ate 2 scallops, hoping the first one was an exception - it was just as bad? Scallops are better at Waterman's at a lower price. Steaks are much better at Epic or Link & Pin, or a dozen steak places in Charlotte. ok, the food is great. I liked that but let me tell you some things that I think shoudl happen when I pay more than 150.00 for dinner. One, a cocktail should not be 15.00. That is way to high. Secondly If I am still eating my appetizer, don't bring the dinner and say you are bringing it so it will not get cold. I thought it was just us but the table access had the same thing happen while eating their salad. I want to enjoy both things hot, so wait another 10 minutes before cooking the main course. I love the freshness of the food but would have like to have a nicer whole experience. Not a lover of the paper on the tables either(my husband said) or the music which should be acoustic so we can chat. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have prime rib this time, which is my favorite meat but I did have the seared scallops and they were very good. My twin girls had filet mignon, my wife had salmon and my oldest daughter had roasted duck and they all loved their meals. Great food and service. They were very hospitality. The service at Chopin's was stupendous. From the hostess to the wait staff to the runners... top notch. This is where you want to go when you bring your out of town parents for a nice meal. Reservations are key, the wait was out the door for those who don't plan ahead. They have Groupons so plan accordingly. But If you like perfectly orchestrated, quick wait times and perfection from servers this is your place. Bar has only four seats and were always full with people who didn't have reservations. Food is not as good as service... overdressed salads (small is $8/large is $12)and broccoli rabe and kale mixed with my asparagus and single carrot slice side was eh. The steaks were perfect and so was the service. Wonderful training showed from hostess greeting to friendly goodbye. Tables are turned two to three times a night, no lingering , but they do what they do well. Worth a visit. Meals are pricy, $45+. But I'd you have parents in town, this is your place. I loved this place. Every time we went it was very good. We went here recently and it's not the same. They had remodeled and it just does not seem the same. It felt like they were so unorganized. It took forever for our soup to come out and when it did there was so much cheese and hardly any bread or onions. They were bringing our food out just as we finished our soup and there was no place to put our plates down. My duck was very dried out. Duck is my favorite meal there so I was very disappointed. When ordering dessert we realized they do not have the strawberry cake on the menu anymore. That was the best dessert there. My husband ordered the banana foster and it took so long to bring out. The other desserts we ordered came out and we were done before the banana foster came out. They did comp us on the banana foster because we were ready to cancel it. My husband and I went for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. It was a Saturday, so we were sure to make a reservation via open table for 7:30. When we arrived a few minutes early, we gave them our name only to be told that it would be at least a 30 minute wait. I responded with, we have a reservation, to which we were told, so does everyone. We were asked to wait and had to talk the hostess into taking our phone number so that we could directly next door to the brewery. There were many other parties waiting as well. After waiting nearly 30 minutes and hearing nothing, we decided to head back and check on the reservation. The table was still not ready. We went outside and overheard another party who had been waiting for their 7:00 reservation and witnessed many other parties with later times seated before them. When they confronted the hostess, the restaurant attempted to blame their reaction on being intoxicated, which I did not feel was justified. My husband told me he was setting a 5 minute timer before we would leave. We believe we were overheard and were seated just after this comment. Once seated, we were extremely pleased with our waiter and the service. My filet was cooked perfectly, but my husbands "medium-rare" ribeye was well-done. Overall, we were not blown away. Based on the higher price point of this restaurant, we had much higher expectations of our experience. I don't think that we will return when there are restaurants in the area with comparable or lower prices for more timely service and food. read more

If I could give this establishment more than 5 stars, I would. From the moment we walked in the door (me and my fiancée) the environment was warm and inviting. We were greeted and promptly sat in a quiet corner, which was perfect. We were greeted by Elizabeth, who was one of the most welcoming, passionate servers I've ever encountered, even being in the service industry myself for a decade. She gave us recommendations for every facet of the menu, from wine to entrees to deserts, and they were all on point. We had a house Chardonnay, which was crisp and refreshing, especially for the price. Our mozzarella starter with greens, olives, and tomatoes was delicious. The green sauce over the top (pesto I believe?) really set if off. The mozzarella was fresh and delicious. I had the halibut and my fiancée had the scallops, and we shared both dishes so we could try both. My halibut was the best I've ever had, and that's not a small amount. It was cooked to perfection, simply and barely crusted with seasoning. It mixed so well with the corn, tomatoe, and soup mixture I physically couldn't stop eating it, even though I was full. Although scallops normally aren't my go-to, they were plump and seared perfectly. The sauce they were served over had a curry type feel to it, which was delicious. This review would be 10 pages long if I let my fiancée review the scallops. Our key lime pie was fresh and had a smooth texture. The cream paired with it made it taste so amazing. Again, I was totally stuffed but couldn't stop eating. In conclusion, if you don't try this place, you're cheating yourself. The food is fresh and amazing. The service is impeccable. My husband got the ribs and he said they were the best! He says they are "very tender, juicy, and fall off the bone... The way ribs are meant to be cooked." I got the scallops and they were amazing.....really. We are very impressed. Fantastic new place on our list to visit. We love to eat out since we both work full time and no one has time to cook much. My family and I tried Choplin's Steak & Seafood last night for the first time. Our server. Elizabeth was such a joy. She was so friendly and accommodating to our party of 6. We started with 3 appetizers, the Brussel sprouts (truly amazing, like I can't wait to go back and get more. My husband who hates Brussel sprouts hasn't stopped talking about these), Brie, and shrimp. All 3 appetizers didn't disappoint. Then we all got steak for dinner (porterhouse, filet, rib eye, and NY Strip) all steaks were cooked perfectly. 2 people in our party added on lobster tail. They were massive, fresh and gone within a few minutes. Since we were celebrating a birthday we all split a piece of strawberry cake and baileys chocolate cake, again which were equally delicious. $179.27 was our total bill. We had the baked Brie appetizer, lobster and tenderloin medallions also the 16oz ribeye, two salads and two glasses of wine. We also had the crème brûlée and 10 out of 10 and the chocolate cake we took home.( that was 3 out of 10-not good at all). All of our desserts were complementary. The restaurants solution to make up for over cooking the medallions (ordered medium and they came out well done) was to cover our desserts. The lobster was served and we had to ask for the melted butter. (Server said she would go back and get it, she just forgot it.). Overall the service was spot on and she was very apologetic for the medallions needing to be redone. I did not enjoy being on a date and having to have our meal completely disjointed by our entrees not arriving perfect at the same time. I started the night off by telling the server this was our first time, so I sort of expected them to comp my wife's lobster meal. She had to eat her entire lobster without having any steak to go with it. That is not the type of experience I expected to have at Chopin's. Me and my boyfriend went to Choplin's yesterday. I have been there before a few times but yesterday was my worse experience. I ordered beef medallions and they were too salty. My boyfriend ordered a pork chop and I think it was not seasoned well. Also the restaurant didn't have any music playing so all I was hearing was people talking and eating. They brought us drinks and were super apologetic bc it was taking so long, although we weren't even bothered. Another AMAZING dinner tonight @ Choplins! I've dined all over the USA. Coming from a sales background for a monster fishing tackle company, my job for years was to wine and dine clients. I've eaten at some of the finest restaurants North America has to offer. Choplins still remains my favorite meal. We were lucky enough to get Corey again for our server. Even though he knows us as regulars, he still explained the menu with pride. That's what I love about this place. From chef, to server, to table, they're doing something special here! The Halibut was incredible. The texture was something you'll just have to experience for yourself. Cooked to perfection. My wife's New York strip was the same. Perfectly cooked and absolutely delectable. Key Lime pie was better than the "best key lime pie" from Key West. Portions were very generous as always! All around just outstanding!
