I'm usually the type that won't return food and just eat what there is and go on but this was so bad I couldn't eat it and wound up cooking myself an egg sandwich for dinner. Complete garbage.

The tenders were breaded and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were good, but the green beans had some sweetness added to them that I wasn't a fan of. (The bacon grease in the green beans was a lovely touch, though.) The bread that they serve is divine! It looks like a croissant, but has a dinner roll taste and consistency, with the most incredible whipped and flavored butter drizzled over. The salads that my parents added looked really great to me, and they couldn't finish and have room for the entrees. My dad loves to order the Fish and Shrimp Platter and this time, according to him, the portion was considerably smaller than usual of the Fish, but the taste was still on par. Fresh, crispy, and just right! As we were leaving the rush was beginning and there were quite a few people waiting to be seated and the restaurant was full. Great spot for a casual, affordable, and great meal.

He took the time to walk us through the menu, answered all our questions, and kept bringing extra sauces, jalapeños, and anything else we might want without us even having to ask. Another young man named Zo stopped by our table twice just to check in and make sure everything was perfect and to see if there was anything he could do to make our visit even better. That kind of attention and genuine hospitality really made an impression. The atmosphere is fun and welcoming. My mom and I might be a little older than some of the crowd, but we felt completely comfortable and right at home. Great food, great vibe, and outstanding service. Fried chicken takes its time and unlike a chain like Popeyes and KFC who can have legs, breasts, and wings ready at the drop of a hat, Kokio only makes what's needed per order. This means there is a longer wait for the food. As we sat and waited for our food, multiple to-go and presumed DoorDash drivers came in and had a similar wait to us. The time seemed to crawl as we waited, but once the order came out and I took my first bite, all was well. I ordered their Wings Plate which came with 5 wings, fries, and some coleslaw. I upgraded my fries to waffle fries for the vibes and they were worthwhile. For the wings, I got them tossed in the Honey Bee sauce. They were smooth and sweet while having a slight kick. Best BBQ ribs I have ever had and I have had BBQ ribs in South Carolina, Memphis, Nashville, Kansas City and all across Texas. Meaty, tender and cooked perfectly. The homemade BBQ sauce is a home run with just the right mix of sweet and a little bold and spicy. The sides are delicious. Beans with added pulled pork have the perfect mix of the pork seasoning and a smoky pepper flavor. The potato salad is bursting with flavor. The fried corn cob was a first for me and very tasty without being greasy. The staff is friendly and the service is great. The owner Shawn is genuine and the real deal. I am trying the brisket and sausage next and then when I board my plane to go home, I will be taking some with me to wow my family even though it will cause a stir on the plane. read more

I recently found this gem of a place for delicious barbecue!! Started out trying the ribs first! They are moist and lots of meat on the bone. And went by on the following Friday to try the catfish, omg ya gotta try it!! It's the size of the platter! Then there's the smoked meat loaf special....nothing like I've tasted before The brisket is awesome as well tender & sliced thick. Actually everything I've eaten here has been superb!! To the future customers: Great place to have some BBQ! the waitress was super nice, and not annoying, let us enjoy ourselves while keeping our table good. I'll eat there again, and recommend it to others. To the Staff/Owner or both. The style of restaurant is simple, the lighting could use some improving, (dimmer = more rustic) The location I'm sure you will have trouble with because of the whole way that the lot and buildings where built there. We are from Oklahoma visiting family in the hospital and decided to grab some lunch. We saw the previous reviews and decided to give this restaurant a try. We each tried something different. The brisket tacos were outstanding. The sliced brisket was very moist, extremely tender, and lightly smoked. The coleslaw was sweet and the fried corn on the cob was incredible. We ordered the beer battered onion rings and they were good as well. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a varied menu with exceptional quality. read more

This is the absolute best BBQ in town! Mesquite smoked tastes soooo much better than hickory. And the portion sizes are perfect. The service was top notch, no "hovering" servers making you feel uncomfortable. And the sides!!!! OMG I can't get over how delicious and creative the sides and desserts are! Between my 1/2 rack of ribs, a chopped BBQ sandwich, a monster baked potato with brisket and a two meat - ribs and brisket plate, no one left hungry including the two-year old granddaughter who chowed down on the mac n cheese. Food was outstanding - well seasoned, right temperatures, and a great selection of sides. Prices were reasonable and there was plenty of seating. BBQ ain't alta cucina and in some ways the more rude the setting, the more appropriate it is. At any rate, they played good music--CCR, Fleetwood Mac, America, Dion and the Belmonts, etc. Bottom line, as long as joints as good as Pitforks and Smokerings and The Shack are open in the Lubbock area, I don't see any reason to be bothering with the lines and lack of seating at Evie Mae's. These are the local joints that are getting my cue money for the foreseeable future.

As I always do I ordered the brisket burnt ends and the original sides of tater salad and coleslaw (as a honest comparison of the TX Top 50). 1lb of brisket that was the superstar of the tray as it should be. Really good flavor and an even smoke that never was offensive "mesquite bite, hickory bitterness" due to really seasoned oak wood presumably post oak. Sides were fine/traditional ACV style slaw to cut the rich brisket, maybe an egg yoke, dill tater salad that was right on the money. Over all a really good bbq representation of Texas smoked beef, not sure I'd rank 10th in the top 50 but glad to taste what others voted on anyway. I will say the condiments "raw jalapeños" and their layout was a really easy and appreciated change from other bbq joints.
