Not quite as good this year. Service was extremely slow. My father in law's steak was cold as were the side of mushrooms. You've got to figure out how to get the food out of the kitchen at the same time or at least keep things warm. My steak was quite good but not spectacular (no change from last year). What really got my goat was the appetizer of lobster morsels. It costs 32$ and is advertised as serving 2-4 people. How many morsels would you guess that includes? I figured 10 small pieces, maybe 12? I was picturing the amount of meat that goes into a large lobster roll and maybe even a touch more than that. They are after all charging 32$ for this blessing. Well, the waiter first gives me and my wife 2 plates, each with a huge portion of melted butter and dipping sauce with a lemon; Literally, enough sauce to make it through 2 monster seafood towers. What followed was an oversized dish, with FOUR pieces of the "lobster morsels" , each LESS than the size of HALF of a chicken McNugget. This is supposed to serve 2-4 people? Cut the crap guys. The lobster was so over breaded and fried, that it tasted like a generic piece of popcorn chicken. Guys, lobster is its own star. You don't need to fry lobster and coat it repeatedly in batter, unless the freshness or appearance of the natural lobster needs to be cloaked (am I getting warm?) What little portion was served to us, tasted awful, with any seafood taste that once existed, completely stamped out by their frying process. If this was truly fresh and beautiful lobster, they wouldn't have to bury it under breading and manipulate diners by calling it a "signature" dish. It's more like a forged signature. As far as steakhouses go, Chops is on par with Morton's and Ruth Chris. We ordered a few different things, and for the most part everything was delicious. I was craving steak and wasn't in the mood for Atlantic Avenue. Boca seemed to be a good idea and Chops an even better choice. We called ahead and made a reservation. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and promptly seated. The restaurant was not busy. Grant it, we were here Sunday evening. The restaurant is wonderfully located and is very elegant inside. It is beautifully decorated with modern art and romantically dimmed lighting. Our waiter was excellent. Never once was a wine glass nor a water empty. He explained the menu, went over the specials and seemed quite cheery as well. We ordered an assortment of different dishes: lobster bites, steak carpaccio, escargot, plus a salad for appetizers. The lobster bites were good, the steak carpaccio was even better. The escargots were okay, but needed more garlic...but then again I am garlic freak! For the main course: NY Strip, Ribeye, & Waygu Kobe. Our friends wife is vegetarian and opted for the Mac & cheese & additional sides. My boyfriend had the NY strip cooked Pittsburgh rare. I tried a piece and it was cooked perfectly. I had the Kobe, it was delicious. I'm glad I ordered it. I recommend only ordering it rare; so you can truly experience all the flavors it has to offer!! I frequent Chops lobster bar at least twice a week in Boca. The food is always good and the bartenders are excellent... Chrissy, Francois, Josh and JoLynn are always "Service with a Smile" (and a few others whose names escape me!) It's a nice meeting place for the Boca locals. My biggest draw is to go and see Chenzo! His collection of songs and melodic voice add a wonderful ambiance to the lounge area! We were there early for their special happy hour menu. It runs from 5-7 nightly. From the options, we tried and shared: The clams casino -- my girlfriend loved them as the clams were almost raw; not so for me (I like them cooked) but the bacon and other toppings made them pretty tasty. 5 clams per order. The burrata salad which was delicious -- a nice fresh, creamy ball of cheese on top of two thick tomato slices topped with micro greens and a white balsamic vinaigrette. The "New England" lobster roll -- was okay. I'm originally from New England. The description mentioned a hot buttered roll so I assumed the lobster was to come warm with melted butter. Instead, the bun was warm and buttered, but filled with cold lobster salad -- a bit too mayonnaisey for me. This also came with thin French fries. There were a number of other items that appealed on their special menu. I would certainly go back sometime. We absolutely love Chops Lobster Bar in Atlanta, so we decided to give the Boca location a try for my mother in law's birthday. Unfortunately, we found ourselves very disappointed with our experience. First and foremost, we waited about 15 minutes to be seated, and another 10 minutes to be acknowledged by our waiter. It was a busy night, I know, but that set the stage for the rest of our experience. With my mother in law's drink order (a Gin gimlet), she requested that they serve it with the dirty ice on the side (which shouldn't be a heavy lift for a fine dining steakhouse like Chops.) When she didn't receive the dirty ice with her drink and asked the waiter for it, he treated her like it was an absurd request and returned with just regular ice on the side. Almost all of us ordered steaks, which were cooked way under the temperature we requested (medium rare). The steaks were seared, and that was about it. Way too chewy to eat and a little gross. The waiter never once asked how everything was, not giving us the opportunity to correct it. Lastly, we were given the check before we were asked for dessert. My mother in law's birthday was noted on the reservation, and I even told the hostess why we were there. It was disappointing, and we decided to grab ice cream on the way home because it felt like Chops wanted to see us out of there. After spending over $500 for an extremely subpar meal/experience, we won't be returning, which is unfortunate given our loyalty to Buckhead Life restaurants as former Atlanta residents. read more

We loved Chops! My fiance took me for my birthday and we had a wonderful experience. First, the restaurant is beautiful! When we arrived we were quickly seated. The maitre d was remiss in not wishing me a happy birthday on our arrival, which we had put in our reservation notes, so he made a special trip back to our table to express his well wishes, as did everyone else who attended to us. Our main server, Pikki was just wonderful. Attentive, professional and personable. She did her best to make us happy. The assiting sever was very good as well. (I did not get his name.) The food: we splurged! We began with oysters, tuna tartar and shrimp cocktail. The tuna was fresh, the shrimps as well, and oh so plump and the oysters were a nice selection. All were served with an array of dipping sauces that were an extra nice touch. Mains: we had 2 2-lb lobsters, the porterhouse for 2 with mashed potatoes and mushrooms. Now let me preface this part by saying there was a small hiccup with the steak. They brought us a 26 ounce instead of the larger one, but it was rectified by Jason, the manager, by bringing us an additional steak. And yes we ate it all! The steak and lobsters( which were perfectly precracked for us) were all PERFECT! I've never seen butter placed on a table with a candle under it to keep it heated) Dessert: I was given my choice of dessert on the house, as a gift. I chose the flourless chocolate cake, since I cannot eat gluten. My fiance had the coconut cake, which was HUGE! They were sinfully delicious and so decadent, we had to take some home. Well I understand the reasons why this restaurant was highly recommended to us by several people and the excitement others gave us when they heard we had reservations here. I will now be one of those people who will get excited when our friends dine here. It was over the top delicious, perfect professional service and upscale decor. Our waiter, Dennis was excellent. He added a special professional touch. We started with cocktails and wine as we pondered our choices. A basket of assorted bread and rolls quickly placed on the table. Honestly, that bread and wine is all I needed. I scarfed down the most delicious onion roll and then the raisin bread. (I will hate myself in the morning). Hubby started with the salad wedge which they offer to chop up in the kitchen. His main course was the twin crab cakes. These crab cakes were probably the best we have had. Definitely a winner choice. I started with the lobster bisque soup. WOW! That is a must try. My main course was the grouper fish. Soo good. Not sure there is a bad choice on the menu. Finally we ended with a luscious chocolate pie. I definitely will hate myself in the morning. I seemed to have pigged out. It was all amazing and I highly recommend this restaurant. I am surprised at the the relatively low rating of 3.5 stars. Went with a group of 6 and sat outside on a beautiful patio, at a large round table. Service, atmosphere and food were all on point. Drinks were good and the overall experience was solid 5 stars. Lobsters were cooked well. Steak, both the rib steak and strip had excellent flavor and were delivered exactly as requested. Sides: corn hash was very very good. Broccolini was good, not over cooked. Mushrooms and brussel sprouts were also great. Get the truffle butter sauce for the table, one is enough to share, it really gives you a strong truffle flavor (if you like that) adds extra depth to your entree. Dessert was good. Star was the "ubiquitous" Key Lime pie, so often abused, but done well here. Coffee was the only down note, but not bad enough to take away a star. Recommend for a nice night out. read more

Despite multiple people fiddling with water no one corrected the place setting deficiency until our food arrived. Even then we had to ask for silverware which they handed us without a napkin. My husband and I shared one napkin on my lap. They never served bread. Chops is filled with servers who avoid looking at the guest for fear that the guest may actually need something like an actual place setting, a napkin or bread. You know the type, they keep their eyes averted as they rush by. When our food arrived it was deposited on an empty table nearby where we looked at it longingly while staff rushed to and fro. I've been coming to Chops for a few years now, and it has consistently been one of my favorite spots in Boca! Such an elevated atmosphere (and always packed) with great food and service. My favorite thing about Chops is the happy hour- a MUST-EXPERIENCE! $6 wines and $7 cocktails along with an extensive food menu. All food is portioned as the regular size too! And it's every day from 5-7pm. You really can't beat it. It's also worth noting that you don't have to just sit at the bar, but you can also sit in the lounge with booths that can hold anywhere from 2 to 6 people. There have been several restaurants in Boca that have been inflated over the years or have been plagued by tourists, but Chops is not that. It's tucked away in Royal Palm Plaza, so parking can be a nightmare, but, trust me, it's worth it! read more

This place had great service with the food being good, however from the experience, I would want to try more because some of the dishes were underwhelming. It started out great with some fresh east and west coast oysters. Both were shucked very well and clean tasting. The caesar salad had a very good dressing with everything balanced well. For the entree, I got their signature fried nova scotia lobster tail with some sides of creamed spinach, mac and cheese, and mushrooms. I don't think the fried lobster tail was a good preparation. The lobster was overcooked, actually very overcooked and tough, and the breading just didn't taste good. However, the sauce served alongside helped add some flavor and made it much better than the lobster by itself. I would rather try a different entree next time. The creamed spinach was really good and one of the best I've had. The spinach was very cheesy and seasoned perfectly. The macaroni and cheese was okay. I think it could have used more seasoning and the cheese sauce had a weird sweet aftertaste. The mushrooms were cooked down nicely and the seasoning was very good. For desserts, I tried the banana cream pie and the chocolate toffee crunch pie. Both were delicious and were balanced great, with not too much sweetness, but still satisfying. The banana cream pie was my personal favorite with a nice buttery crust and a generous amount of whipped cream. I would come back here to try some other things and overall, it's a solid fancy steakhouse to try when you'e in Boca and have a classy experience. read more

I can't speak for the regular dinner entrees and appetizers as we have only been here for their very excellent happy hour -- which is relatively affordable considering how obnoxiously expensive this valet parking steak house restaurant normally is (I get it, it's Boca, it's Mizner, it's swarming with self-entitled snowbirds who would have otherwise ended up at Truluck's if it was still there). Have had a few of their cocktails, especially recommend their "steak house" classic martini, dirty, Gin, with blue cheese olives. Pretty good Bloody Mary although I think they use a mix. Very respectable happy hour burger was cooked perfectly medium rare, good clams casino, excellent burrata mozzarella, solid tuna tartare, very good lobster roll. Very disappointing. Did curbside pickup. On the phone I ordered the octopus app, the bone-in ribeye medium rare with the organic mushrooms, and the banana cream pie desert. The person on the phone confirmed my order saying I got the bone-in filet, which I corrected. I apparently didn't correct her enough because after I left I opened the bag and I had dry steak that was medium at best (the pictures have a flash so it looks pinker than it actually was, although it still doesn't look good - and the picture was about five minutes after I left, so it's not a carryover cooking situation either) and mashed potatoes for some reason. No mushrooms. But there was a sauce of some sort that I didn't try and identify. The octopus was good even if there was a roughly 3-1 ratio of olive to octopus. The steak honestly was worse than a recent ribeye I made that I got from Publix, and the mashed potatoes may have been good, I have no idea because I hate mashed potatoes and they went straight into the trash. The steak was not juicy in the slightest, seems like it was sitting under a heat lamp for a while maybe and dried out, I can't imagine that thing was freshly cooked for me. It was at 9:30 PM, so I guess I learned my lesson of ordering close to closing time, and I'll avoid any repeat by never going to Chops again just to be safe. read more

I enjoy going in, through those big doors, to Chops. The hostesses always have a smile, and the gentleman that's always up front makes you feel so welcome and special just by coming in. If I'm going with friends or coworkers, and I'm the first to arrive, he immediately offers a drink while I wait, or jokingly suggests a Tequila for two. He immediately puts a smile on everyone's face. Once your party is complete (or the majority of it) you are welcomed to sit. Hostess escorts you to your table and immediately your assigned server is there ready to greet you and take your drink order. There has not been a server I have not liked here. They have all been friendly, attentive, and very welcoming as well. They offer A La Carte menu and also have a Pre-Fixed Menu for about $55. I have done both. The Fixed menu is good, when 1. You want to stay within a budget, or 2. You want the 3 course meal. I did this Fixed menu once and my experience was equally excellent as when ordering A La Carte. The Fixed menu offers several options for appetizer, main course and dessert. Drinks and gratuity are excluded. With the Fixed menu I ordered: Lobster Bisque (creamy and flavorful) Petite Surf & Turf. Steak was cooked perfectly, the lobster tail was fresh, with melted butter on the side, and perfect size to leave room for dessert. The Chocolate Soufflé Cake is rich and served with vanilla ice cream and was a very nice ending to my meal. Most of the time I do order A La Carte, main reasons are two of the appetizers not offered on the Fixed Menu: The Calamari and the Morsels of Lobster Tail. Even if you don't order anything else you MUST try these. They are amazing! The Thai chili sauce on the calamari is addictive. Just a kick of spice and they are perfectly breaded. Same as the Lobster Morsels, these are so fresh, lightly breaded so they are not greasy and the lobster taste comes through. One order will not be enough, if you are sharing, believe me. The steaks here are equally amazing. Cooked to order, I've only seen someone in my party send it back once and that was enough to get it right, and they were very apologetic about it. You can have it with a list of toppings like blue cheese butter, and white truffle butter. I've also had the Steamed Alaskan Red King Crab, they come already cracked and easy to eat. As much as I wanted to finish them all, again, you can taste how fresh these are, I was not able to... They serve about 6 - 7 "merus" cuts, and with the sides, it was just too much. No, you will not want to forget the sides... These are served family style (to share), and my absolute favorites are the truffle parmesan fries (you really want to try these) , and the Pure Creamless Corn Mash. The creamed spinach is also good. Another really good one I recently tired (it was a "special of the day") was the truffle mashed potatoes with crab meat. If you hear it in the daily specials, order it! Oh, and if they offer you a small salad, say yes! I used to say no but, never again. Lettuce, onions, garbanzo beans, egg, peppers, blue cheese, with light creamy dressing. We all really enjoyed it. They have full bar and a great wine list. Complimentary Valet also. This is a great place to bring clients, celebrate special occasions, date night, or a nice dinner with friends. Chops Lobster Bar is an upscale dining experience. The decor is warm and inviting with an amber tiled ceiling and dark banquettes. I found it amusing that the Maître D told us what a great table he was giving us when it ending up being in the middle of the room, very close to other diners. Next time I would reserve the much roomier banquettes at the edge of the dining room. We enjoyed the food very much. Was it one of my favorite fine dining establishments? Probably not, but it is better than many other steak houses I have eaten at and is good enough to earn a solid four star rating. I started with with the Flash Fried Lobster Tail. This was an incredible tasting morsel. I just wish there was more of it! Husband started with his usual Caesar Salad. I loved that the salad had a poached egg on top. Husband thought the dressing on top was a little bland. For mains husband ordered the 12oz filet. As far as steaks go, he gave it a four star rating. I ordered the Hong Kong Duo: Scottish salmon and Chilean sea bass with spinach in an Asian broth. I bit into the sea bass and decided to send it back. The sea bass was way too hard and flaky; it was not melt in your mouth, butter soft.... the way really good Chilean sea bass should be. There was no way I was going to settle for mediocre food in this fine restaurant! Our server graciously offered to get me another dish and I chose the Sautéed Scallops with Risotto. This was a great improvement. The scallops tasted very fresh and were not overlooked. The slight saltiness of the scallops was nicely balanced by the sweet sauce it was sitting on top of. The arborio risotto was fairly flavorless. Overall the service at Chops was impeccable. I believe there was a team of three taking care of our table and there was always someone near by in case we needed anything. I also liked the variety on the menu. Although the name of the restaurant is "Chop's Lobster Bar", the place is more like the area's top steak houses. However, Chop's has much more to offer than just steak and lobster. There is a raw bar and many interesting fish entrees to choose from. I can see why this place was packed on Saturday night! Next on my list....the Fort Lauderdale location! read more

Valet parking was backed up 6 cars deep upon arrival. Our friends were already seated so did not experience any waiting or attitudes listed here. It was really loud but less so where we sat (room with the tiled ceiling ). Our waiter was very nice and proper though it was hard to hear him at times because he was so soft spoken. Had the fried lobster tail as an appetizer which was delicious. My husband had the lobster bisque which was good as well ( not the best we have ever had like at the Capital Grille one) but still good. You can choose to not have the lobster chunks in it. Who would want that? lol The other couple had oysters which they loved. Bread was ok, not warm. Entrees were very good: dover sole prepared table side and plate heated on a portable cooktop for you veal ravioli and steak for the guys. All excellent. Sides were the corn mash (sweet and melts in your mouth) and parm fries with truffle butter. Had a bottle of Etude, one of our faves! You cannot go wrong with that choice -ever. Molten lava chocolate cake with a scoop of pistachio ice cream and another of vanilla was surprisingly good! Espressos for all to end a great night. I would love to come back any time. We left a little after 11 and it was emptying out pretty quickly. Crowd was very mixed: people in their 30s and up to their 70s. We came here for our 2 year anniversary and it came out to be one of our most memorable experiences! The minute we walked in and gave the name for the reservation they greeted us with such enthusiasm and wished us a happy anniversary. I thought it was a lovely touch because it felt very personalized. When our waiter showed up, they again wished us a happy anniversary! Anyways, we opted to do the special three course menu as it was my first time and I wanted the chance to try a bit of everything. I went with the Florida shrimp and lump crab on ice, the petite surf and turf, UNREAL lobster Mac and cheese, truffle fries, and for dessert the most decadent chocolate soufflé cake. Everything was perfect. Each bite was like a little piece of heaven, especially with that cake. Warm, chocolatey, moist, rich, and that perfect touch of vanilla bean ice cream. What made it even more special was when they brought out our desserts they wrote a nice saying & made us feel quite special on our romantic evening. This was my first time at Chops but it won't be my last. We had a great experience dining here. It was clean including the restrooms which is super important. The cocktails at the bar were excellent and the two barmaids were very friendly and professional. Our dinner for 6 was at a table in front of the open kitchen. Everyone's steaks were cooked perfectly and so was the fish that was ordered. The tableside warm spinach salad was great. Our server Pei Kei (spelling?) was terrific. Very attentive and friendly.
